I hung up and immediately called Karl as I knew he would probably still be awake. "What the hell Den, I just saw you." "Brace yourself lover. Larry Brown is out on bail and has been for several days." "Shit!" "To say the least. We're back to looking over our shoulders all of the time. You'd better call home and warn them. I'll leave a message for Mrs Ohanlon." "Right, they aren't going to be happy Den." "Hell I'm not overjoyed myself. Get on it. I've got a couple of other calls to make." "Later lover." I next dialed Dirk. "Hello?" "Dirk, sorry to be calling so late but this couldn't wait. Larry Brown has been released on bail. You and your crew didn't cooperate with him so you may well be on his shit list as well. Just thought you deserved a heads up." "Thanks Dennis I appreciate that. Might explain why I've been having so much aggrivation at the dealerships the last couple of days." "Anything serious?" "No just a lot of little shit that wastes my time and that of a good number of other people. Guess I'll just have to step up security. Ok Den let me get on the phone to my guys and thanks again." I next made the call to my house and left a message for Mrs Ohanlon. The next to last call for the night would be to Dana Pembrose and that was a text as if he was on duty I didn't want to disturb him that much. My phone rang a few minutes later and it was Dana. "Thanks for the heads up Dennis. I'm just about to leave for the precinct now. I'll make the watch and the watch commander aware and to keep a good eye on your house. You alerted the business yet?" "My next call Dana and thanks." "Dennis. What are you doing calling at this time of night?" "I just needed to let you know that Larry Brown has been released on bail. I want extra precautions taken at work for everybodies safety. I'm sure you heard about the bomb threat at state over the weekend. It's beginning to look like he was behind it. The threat was traced to my old phone and as far as I'm concerned that points to Larry." "Yeah I think that is the conclusion that I would come to as well. Ok Dennis I'll put building security on the alert, give the folks the watch your backs speech and have the IT guys keep a good watch on things. Otherwise, how are things going up there?" "Everything else is fine Stan. Now I'm going to try and get some sleep." "Ok, you take care." "I will. Night." Tomorrow I would have to go over and stop by the campus security office and once again put them on the alert. I was really beginning to get tired of Larry. I finally got to sleep and when 5:45 came around, I really didn't want to get up. I knew that Gordon and Karl would both be waiting on me though. So I got dressed and made my way outside and Gordon was only a few seconds behind me. Karl joined us as we passed his dorm and we were on our way for our five laps. I kept checking out rooftops as we passed the different buildings. I wasn't going to put anything past Larry. "Jeez babe give it a rest. I don't think even Larry is stupid enough to try something like that." "I'm not putting anything past him Karl. If he was the one behind the bomb threat,he is crazy enough to try just about anything." We completed out laps without mishap and Gordon and I went in to shower and change for class. Soon enough we were down to the cafeteria and Karl and Aiden joined us for breakfast. We were then off to class. After class but before heading over to the gym I did stop by the campus security and let them know what was going on. When I speculated that it might have been Larry who had made the bomb threat they got very serious about the whole thing. Satisfied that I had alerted everyone that needed to be, I headed over to the gym. It was a scheduled work out for the team. I was changed up and headed for the apparatus room when the coach stopped me. "Dennis I really hate to have to do this, but until further notice I have to suspend you from the team until this bomb scare thing is cleared up." "You don't think I had anything to do with it do you coach?" "Oh hell no Dennis. It's just school policy. I have every confidence that you'll be cleared. I just hope it's in time for the next meet." "May be just as well coach. I was going to insist that you give Dwayne his shot anyways. He's worked just as hard as anybody else." "That he has Dennis. You can certainly practice with us if you want, but I can't allow you to compete." "I think I had better so I don't loose all of the work I've put into it. Which reminds me I wanted to ask how hard an opponent this next team is?" "I won't lie to you Dennis, last years squad was top notch and really gave us a run for our money. I'd sure as hell like to have you on point for this one." "Guess it's out of my hands for now coach." "Mine too. Ok then get in there and stretch out." Practice proceeded and I went through all of my routines without any discernable problems. When we were finished I went and did a few laps in the pool and then in to hit the whirlpool. When I got back to my room it must have shown on my face or something, because Pete seemed to know something was off. "What's wrong Den?" "I've been suspended from the team until I'm cleared of any involvement in the bomb scare." "Well that sucks, especially after you did so well in the last meet." "May be just as well anyway. I don't think my mind would be in the right place and it gives Dwayne his shot as well." "I'm sure Dwayne will appreciate that." "Yeah maybe, but coach thinks these guys who are coming in are going to be tough to beat, even with the 'A' team." "Hey, you can't win them all Den." "Yeah I suppose not, but it sure as hell would be nice." Just then there was a knock at the door, so I went to open it. Pete stopped me. He went and cracked the door and then opened it. It was Gary formerly of the gynmastics team standing there. "Gary what up dude?" " I just heard you were suspended. I know how I felt when I got booted and thought I'd just come over and make sure you were doing ok." "I'll be fine Gary and I really do appreciate the thought. I'm reasonably confident that I'll be cleared of any involvement, just not sure how long that will take." "I sure hope it's in time for the next meet. Armstrong was tough last year. They're going to be needing you Den." "They might well have to use Dwayne and he deserves his shot anyway." "Yeah I suppose he does. Well, if you're handling this I'll get out of your hair." "Hey while you're here, how is the treatemnt going?" "Too soon to tell really. The doc says he won't be able to see anything for at least a month and then hopefully it will be a different cast and I get to be uncomfortable all over again. I'm just getting use to this one." "Well hang in there regardless. If this guy is supposed to be top of his field you should be in good hands." Gordon and Aiden were just coming into the dorm when Gary was leaving. "What did he want? Was he ragging on you?" "Far from it. He just wanted to be sure I was ok." "Why wouldn't you be?" "I'm suspended from the team until I'm cleared of any involvement in the bomb scare." "Bullshit! There's no way in hell you were involved in that." "Gordon, you know that, and I know that but the police don't. I'm confident they'll get to the bottom of it and I'll be cleared." Almost as if on cue, I saw one of the detectives who had questioned me coming down the hall. I took out my cell phone and hit the speed dial for Mr Jacobs, and put it on speaker. "Mr Sawyer, if you have a moment?" "Certainly detective. Pete can we have the room. Officer I have my lawyer on the phone and it is in speaker mode." "Quite alright Mr Sawyer I understand and it's not a problem. This should only take a few minutes. You maintain that your phone has been in your desk drawer for approximately a month?" When Mr Jacobs didn't make any objection I answered. "That's correct." "Were you on campus all weekend?" "No as a matter of fact I wasn't. A friend and I took off for a couple of days." "Can you tell me where you went?" Still no objection from Mr Jacobs. "I don't remember the name of the town, but we stayed at a place called Whispering Pines about a 3 hour drive away." "Any proof of that?" I pulled out my wallet and retrieved the reciept from where I had charged the room. "Will this suffice?" "Yes it will. Anybody able to verify this other than your friend?" "We spent most of Saturday with another couple of guys. I can give you their phone numbers." "Please. Can I take this with me?" "Mr Sawyer, if possible I recommend you get a copy of that reciept before you turn it over to the detective." "Thank you Mr Jacobs." I went over and turned on my printer, which had a scanner in it as well. I made my copy and turned over the original and Lucas and Daniels phone numbers. "Thank you for your cooperation Mr Sawyer. Hopefully this will clear things up." The guy left my room. "WEll Mr Jacobs, what do you think?" "I think he knows more than he was saying Dennis. You were right to call me though. Anything else comes up don't hesitate." "Oh believe me I won't. Have a good evening." "You as well Dennis." Pete came back into the room at that point. "So what the hell?" "I'm pretty sure I just cleared myself, but we'll have to wait and see. I need to make a couple of phone calls."
