"Peyton, you shocked me with the language you used in the courtroom when you addressed Andrew's sperm donor; I hope I don't hear you using such language again." "Mom, I'm sorry, but you haven't seen the injuries Andrew suffered; I have, and if killing someone like that semblance of a man was legal, he would be dead and cremated today. Look at these pictures of your new grandson and tell me if you wouldn't have treated that man as I did."

"Oh my God, Peyton, I didn't know the beating Andrew took was this severe." "Mom, it is worse than this in other areas on the boy's body. I showed Dad the other pictures, but out of respect for Andrew, I won't show you the pictures of his severely swollen testicles, the bruised scrotum, and the marks on his penis where his bio donor hit him with a leather strap, and lord knows what else. I admit my language in the courtroom was testy, but it was the only way I could provoke that man to challenge me and for Dan to let us fight it out in the inmate's exercise yard. I wish I could have killed the miscreant and gotten away with it."

"Peyton, I understand; I wish I didn't, but I do." "Dad, do you need your say on this matter?" "Peyton, I agree with your Mom; I thought your language was a bit over the top, but at the same time, the way you played that man like a violin; that was freaking brilliant. You got the desired result, so kudos to you for provoking him and then kicking his butt! He deserved everything he got for the way he mistreated Andrew." "Well, I apologize to you and Mom for my language. I intended to force him to realize what he did to his son was egregious in the most detrimental way."

"Uncle Peyton, I agree with Grandma and Grandpa about the language. Suppose I said that; I would get into some real trouble. But you are an adult, so you could get away with saying what you did. Thank you for loving me enough to stop my abuse, and thank you for being my uncle. You make it easy for me to say I love you."

"Thank you for saying that, Andrew. I love you, and it makes my heart glad to know you realize that I will do whatever it takes to ensure you are safe and happy. You have your entire new family on your side, and there is nothing we won't do to help you feel loved and protected." "I do, Uncle Peyton. Thank you and Uncle Jaiden for doing what you did to help me." "Son, you are most welcome."

"Uncle Jaiden, this is Andrew. I know you met the queen when you were my age and that she sent you several birthday wishes over the years. Dad also told me that you loved the Queen after meeting her because of how you met her and how nice she was to you. I think it was neat that you and your mom were touring the Queen's Balmoral Estate when you noticed her dressed like the people touring her Scottish home, and when you started to say, Your Maje..." she held her finger to her mouth so you wouldn't say anything that would give her away. I heard she watched you on the tour of her castle and smiled a lot as she watched your excitement. I just wanted to tell you that I am sorry she died and that you can't be in England for her funeral." "Andrew, that is so nice of you to say that, and incredibly perceptive of someone your age to know when something had upset an adult. To be that empathic at your age is unheard of, and I am so proud of you for calling me to wish me well."

"Andrew, I know you are new to Judaism, but do you know what we say to honor the memory of a special person who has passed away?" "No, sir, I don't, at least not yet."

OK, let me teach you how to honor the memory of a good, honorable person who died. Knowing that the queen indeed was a righteous person, a lady of deep faith, we would say Zekher tzadik livrakha, which means may the memory of the righteous be a blessing. To me, it says that good things are the things that build good memories; and that good people, righteous people, are the people from whom we learn to be a good and happy person, to have a happy life." "Uncle Jaiden, do you mean people like Grandma and Grandpa and how they adopted my Dad, Seth, and Uncle Leon?" "That is a perfect analogy, Andrew." "What is an analogy, Uncle Jaiden?" "Andrew, an analogy is a way of saying something different than how it could be said." "Oh, OK."

"If I were talking to the Queen's children, as a Jewish person, I would say Shelo ted'u od tza'ar, which is a wish for them that they should not have any more sorrow in their lives. The Queen's children watched her health worsen over the past few years, and their hearts hurt for their mother and grandmother. You may hear some people say the Queen died of a broken heart; that may very well be true. She died a year after her husband whom she loved dearly; she and he had been married for seventy-three years."

"When we think of the Queens family members she left behind, we might say or write to them Hamakom y'nachem etchem b'toch sh'ar availai tziyon ee yerushalayim. If we say that to Prince Charles, who is now known as King Charles III, what we would be telling him is, may God comfort you among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. The people and mourners of Zion, or Judaism and Jerusalem, where many people who suffered at the hands of the Nazis in World War II and lost many family members murdered by the Nazis who killed them with poison gas or shot them with rifles and pistols. Some of the people the Nazis wanted to kill were buried alive. It is an extreme blessing and honor for Hashem to comfort you today as he comforted the victims of the Nazis during and after World War II."

"Andrew, there is going to come a time in your life when someone you are close to dies or, as we now say, passes away; it will be painful mentally. It isn't going to be like getting into a fight or someone abusing and hurting you. Life is part of what prepares you for that time. That is a time when friends help those you leave behind, and, if you are the one left behind, a time when you realize who your true friends are. True friendship gets you through many things that happen in your lifetime. Something the Queen said is that grief is the price we pay for love."

"Uncle Jaiden, I have to go. Mom said we are going shopping to get me some clothes and things I might want to decorate my room with." "Andrew, do you know where y'all are going to shop?" "We're going to the mall, to a place called Mansour's. It is supposed to have the best clothes around. I think Mansour's is where I'll buy clothes for going to the temple on Saturday." "Andrew, there is a store called Perkins. Go in there, ask for Tom and tell him you are my nephew. He may help you pick out the best school clothes, jeans, and shorts to play outside. They also sell nice tennis shoes you may want to look at." "OK, Uncle Jaiden, I gotta go. Mom says we must leave before it gets too late, and Robert and Peyton have to go to bed."

"Perkins Clothing, this is Aimee; how may I assist you?" "Aimee, this is Jaiden. Is Tom there?" "He is, one moment, please." "Hey, Jaiden, longtime no-see." "Yes, it has been a long time, too long." "Tom, my sister-in-law, Sally Riley, is going to bring her son to the mall to get some clothes and some room decorations. I told Andrew to go to Perkins and to ask for you. If you are going to be there when he comes in, would you please ensure he gets the best of whatever he wants?" "Is there a reason for doing this?" "Yes, an attorney friend of ours called and said he had been appointed guardian ad litem in a child abuse case, and he got Dale and Charley to assess the boy's confidence and abilities. The boy showed Dale his back, and Dale was so mad he couldn't do or say anything except to call our office and speak with Peyton,"

"Pete brought the boy to the office, and Andrew and Richard examined the boy, and Richard was so angry at how the boy's dad had beaten him that he almost put his fist through a fire door." "Dang, Richard is usually a docile kind of guy." "He is, Tom, but when he saw that boy's body and the damage done to him by his dad, his mind went immediately to the pain he and Seth suffered the same way. Dan has already revoked both parents' rights of custody. When he did, Sally and Richard filed papers to adopt Andrew, and the judge approved the adoption. Andrew went home with Richard and Sally on Tuesday. His clothes were horrible, and he had one pair of old, ill-fitting shoes. Richard told Allison Gray to throw the holy clothes away, that he would get everything new for his new son. So, if a drop-dead, gorgeous blond lady with two toddlers and a ten-year-old comes in, that will be Sally and Andrew; get Andrew anything he wants and use my card you have on file. Do not tell them who the benefactor is because I want him to be excited at somebody being nice to him because they can and because they wanted to."

"Speaking of the people you mentioned, they just walked through the door. Let me take care of Andrew, and I'll call you back."

"Excuse me, is Mr. Tom in?" "I'm Tom; how may I help you?" "My Uncle Jaiden said to ask for you to help me pick out some good play clothes and shoes. He said you were a friend of his." "You said Uncle Jaiden, so you must be Andrew. Are you?" "Yes, sir, I am Andrew Riley." "Nice to meet you, Andrew; is this your mom? "Yes, sir, this is my mom, Sally Riley." "It is so nice to meet you, Mrs. Riley." "Please, call me Sally. I want to get my son some nice clothes that are as indestructible as possible, that he can play in with his friends, maybe some Levi's and a pair of Sketchers." "Great, let's see what we can find for Andrew."

"Andrew, let's check to see how long your legs are. Hold this leather handle on the inside of your leg. Push it up so that it is touching between your leg and private parts. OK, hold it tight. OK, your inseam is 21 inches. Now let's check your waist size. Eighteen inches, and looking at your build, you need slim pants. Tom pulled out a pair of Levi jeans and sent Andrew to the dressing room to try them on. Andrew put the pants on and walked outside the dressing room for his mom and Tom to check. The fit was good, but for growth's sake, he suggested one size up in the waist and two inches to the length so Andrew would grow into the clothes. We have jeans in Andrew's size and some dress pants, but the dress pants will need to be hemmed.

"Andrew, would you like Levi or Wrangler jeans?" "Mom, what do you think? Which brand should I get? " "Andrew, you can have whichever brand you want. Maybe we can call your dad and see what he says." "Please, Mom."

"Richard, are you winding up your day? "I am, and I am a bit tired but not as tired as I have been lately." "Andrew wanted me to ask you which brand of jeans you think would be the best, Levi or Wrangler?" "I am partial to Levi because they are a little more formfitting. Wrangler jeans seem to be cut a bit larger per size and are comfortable on car trips. Levi's are a bit stiffer, but they are the standard and have been for years – and they last. More expensive than Wranglers, yes, but Andrew deserves to get what he wants for a change. It's his choice, so get him to try on the jeans, and whichever is more comfortable for him is what I would get. Oh yes, since you have his waist size, get him several packages of briefs, white socks, and some dark navy socks for dress wear." "OK, babe, I'll make sure we get those things."

"Tom Richard said to get several packs of briefs for Andrew, white socks for comfort wear, and some navy socks to wear to temple with his dress pants." "Very well. Andrew, do you like boxers or briefs? "Mr. Tom, I'm not sure; I don't know those names; my old parents just called them underwear." "I see; let me show you the difference. Does the underwear you have on look like the baggy pants style of underwear, or like these that we call tighty-whiteies?" "They are like the tighty-whiteies." "Now, do they have legs like these briefs, or are they without legs like these?" "Without the legs." Tom opened a package of boxer briefs, gave a pair to Andrew, and told him to try them on in the dressing room. Andrew tried on the boxer briefs and asked his new mom to see if they looked OK. As red-faced as she could be, Sally did as Andrew asked and said she liked how the boxer briefs looked on her son. She asked him if they were comfortable, and Andrew said they were, that he had never worn briefs like those. Boxer briefs it would be.

Tom took Andrew to look at some nice name-brand sports shirts. He had difficulty deciding what he liked because all he had ever worn before was cheap colored tee shirts from a dollar store. Sally helped Andrew pick out some beautiful shirts that were brightly colored and matched his skin tone. Andrew picked out two pairs of running shoes he liked and a pair of black dress shoes to wear to the synagogue services. They went to the counter to pay for the clothes, and when Tom had rung up the merchandise, he put it in two large bags, handed them to Andrew, and said, "Young man, I hope you enjoy these clothes. When you outgrow them, come back to see me, and we will get you some new clothes that fit you.

"Tom, how much do I owe you?" "Nothing." "What do you mean nothing?" "These clothes are a gift from a friend who said Andrew deserved the best for once in his life." "Andrew, what do you say to Mr. Tom?" "Thank you for helping me to pick out my new clothes. I've never had nice clothes like these before." "Andrew, you are very welcome; I hope you enjoy your new duds."

Andrew carried a bag of clothes and was beaming with pride as he, his mom, and his brothers walked to their car. When he got home, he couldn't wait for his dad to get home and see the clothes he got. He was so proud of what he got and wanted to put on a pair of jeans and one of his new shirts, but Sally told him they needed to wash the clothes to get the manufacturing chemicals out of them so those chemicals wouldn't make him break out in hives and itch. She clipped all the tags off the clothes and washed and dried the jeans as the new shirts, briefs, and socks were washing."

When the new clothes were washed and dried, Sally helped Andrew lay the new clothes on his bed so his dad could see them when he got home. When Richard walked through the door of their home that afternoon, Andrew grabbed his hand and took his dad to his bedroom so he could see the new clothes and shoes. Richard made a big fuss over the new duds, making his new son feel incredibly good. Richard looked at Andrew and said, "I love you, buddy." Andrew took several steps backward and just looked at Richard, who wondered what had triggered the strange look from Andrew.

"What's wrong, son?" "Nobody has ever told me they loved me before." "Well, son, I love you, your mom loves you, your uncles and new grandparents love you. And you know what, we do two more things in the Riley family that you've never participated in before." "What would those two things be, Dad?" "Come here." "Andrew walked hesitantly to Richard, who grabbed his son, hugged him, and gave him the obligatory Riley family kiss on the forehead. Then Richard said, "Andrew, in the Riley family, you will always be loved no matter what, and you will always get a hug from your mom, me, your brothers, your uncles, and especially from your grandparents – and a kiss on the forehead; that is something your grandpa started years ago. The one thing you will never get in your home is a spanking or a whipping, as you have called it." "Are you sure you won't ever want to whip me for doing something wrong?" "Andrew, you will never do anything that will make me want to hit you; get upset with you maybe, but hit you – never."

Richard returned to the kitchen and hugged and kissed Sally and his other two sons. He asked Sally how much the clothes Andrew got cost, and when she said nothing that Tom said they were a gift from a friend of his, Richard said he would be sure to walk around the corner to Jaiden's and Peyton's and tell them thank you. "Richard, are you sure it was Jaiden and Peyton? "Honey, I am positive it was Jaiden with Peyton's blessing; it's his style of doing things." "When you go to their home, take Andrew with you so he can say thank you too. When he returns home with you, I'll help him write a thank you note to his uncles." "Sweetheart, have I told you lately how awesome you are?" "Sweetie, you tell me every day in one way or another."

After dinner, Andrew and Richard walked around the corner to Jaiden's and Peyton's, and they went onto the deck and watched Andrew play with his cousins. "Jaiden, thank you for what you did for Andrew today. He had the best time picking out some new clothes and shoes, and when I got home from the office, he grabbed me by the hand and dragged me to his bedroom to see what he got. "Jaiden smiled and told Richard, "Bro, I didn't do a thing today except for working and coming home." "True, but I know you called Tom and told him what to do, and you made Andrew incredibly happy. Sally told me Tom showed him three different styles of briefs and that Andrew tried on a pair of boxer briefs and asked Sally to look and make sure they looked OK on him. She said she turned blood red in the face causing Tom to have a bit of a chuckle. Then she told me that Andrew had a cute little butt in the boxer briefs but that when he turned around, she did too. I laughed my butt off when she said that. I told her that I had examined him without his clothes on when he came into the office, and... Richard curled his fingers and rubbed his nails on his shirt... Andrew is as well-endowed as I am. I have never seen her blush that much; talk about hilarious!" "I'm sure, and I am also sure you said what you did to make her blush, didn't you?" "Jaiden, I don't know what you are talking about!" "Yeah, I bet you don't."

"Seriously, guys, thank you for what you did for Andrew. He was so happy when he got home with his new clothes." "Good, Richard, that is how I wanted him to feel."

"You know, Jaiden, his birthday is in a month. I talked with Sally, and we're thinking about going to the bike shop in the strip mall and getting him a 21-speed Huffy Hardtail Mountain Trail Bike – 24-inch. That should fit him well, and he can learn to ride it pretty easily around the neighborhood with Sally and me. We will get a tandem bike and a bike cart to pull the babies. That way, we can all go riding, and we can go to the park up the mountain and ride the trails together. When the boys are old enough, we can get them their bicycles and ride on park trails instead of on the street." "That sounds like fun. I wish Peyton and I could do that, but they don't make a trailer for five children." "I didn't think of that, Jaiden.

Wait a minute! You have five sons. You and Peyton could get your bikes, and one of you could pull three children behind one bike and two behind the other. The trailer would be a one-two combination of seats to hold three children or a sidecar like a motorcycle has and pull the two-child cart behind you. The last option is a seat behind the bike rider and a two-seater cart to pull behind you. Obox makes a rear cart that holds three children. We could all go to the mountains at Leon's and Peter's house near Brevard. They kept the house as a vacation home for the family."

"That sounds like a plan, Richard. The children would love getting out and riding like that. Your children would be extremely well behaved, and our children would be handcuffed to the railing to keep them in the cart." Now you know you won't have to do that with your children, Jaiden." "You're probably right, but I would have enough handcuffs if we needed them to keep the children from jumping out of the moving cart if they saw something they wanted to investigate. If you want to, you can go ahead and order the bicycle for Andrew and hide it here at our house. It can go inside our walk-in closet until it is time to give it to Andrew. That closet has plenty of room to do that, and nobody goes in that closet except Peyton, me, Granny, and Ginny when they wash and dry the clothes." "Thanks, I appreciate the offer. I'll order the bike tomorrow from the office, so there is nothing around the house to give away the surprise to Andrew."

Andrew ran onto the deck and sat by his dad. "Andrew, why did you run up here and sit down?" "Because I didn't want to get in trouble for what is about to go down." "What do you mean?" "Chuck is picking on Alaina, and she looked at him and said she has already told him to stop. If he keeps on, I think she will hit him." "Dale spoke up and said, "Andrew, if she told him to stop and he doesn't, she has a mean left hook that she follows up with a right punch to his mouth. You won't get into trouble if she does that, it happens quite frequently when her brothers aggravate her and won't stop when she tells them to."

No sooner had Dale said that than Alaina let Chuck hold it. He yelled, and Dale said, "Chuck, didn't Alaina tell you to stop aggravating her?" "Uh-huh, Daddy." "Do you think you can leave her alone now?" "Uh-huh." "OK, son, you know what will happen if you don't stop aggravating her."

"Dang, she's a tough little girl!" "Andrew, you don't know the half of it. A boy at the Montessori school picked on one of her brothers and wouldn't stop, so Alaina whipped his butt. After that, none of the boys in her class picked on any f her brothers; they're scared of Alaina." "I can understand why, Uncle Dale."

Suddenly, Jaiden smelled a familiar odor, ran to the yard with Peyton, Dale, and Charley, and got all the children inside the house. As they looked out the French doors, a familiar creature stuck his head over the fence. Before the bear could jump into the backyard, Jaiden lit a couple of M-80s and threw them into the yard. That was all it took to scare the bear off. When the M-80s exploded, that bear took off back into the woods as fast as his legs could run. "Geez, I hope this isn't going to be a common problem. They relocated that bear, and he returned to the area."

"Jaiden, bear stew is good, and so is grilled bear steaks." "I know, Richard, but Ginny is the only person around here who knows how to kill and skin a bear – and she is very good at doing that."

"That little lady, Jaiden?" "Yep, she killed one when I was a little boy about my boy's ages and had it skinned and cut up before mom could get home. It's best if you don't bother her children, no matter what ages they are; she is a fierce warrior when it comes to her babies – don't mess with them unless you are willing to pay a steep price for doing so. Speaking of Ginny, I better call her and tell her the bear came back so she can be prepared if she sees him coming around." "Prepared, Jaiden?" "Yep, she's a heck of a shot with a pistol or rifle, and the bear will fall with the first shot!"

That bear was smaller than the last one, so I wonder if it was the other bear's cub. It'd be interesting to know, but he probably won't return for a while; the M-80s were loud. I think they worked better than my mom's rifle or pistol." "Probably, Jaiden, but the pistol and the rifle are legal while the M-80s aren't in most states." True, Richard, but I will do whatever I must to protect our children, niece, and nephews – legal or not." "Jaiden, that proves you are a good dad and an awesome uncle."

"Sally, would you like some coffee?" "Thanks, Jaiden, but what I would like is a nice glass of cold, iced tea if you have some." "We do, Sally; Dale made a pitcher last night. He likes to make it and let it sit overnight; he says it improves the flavor." "I agree; it does improve the flavor. Somehow it reduces the strong taste of the tannins in the tea."

"Here you go, a nice tall glass of tea." Thanks, Jaiden; this will hit the spot since it is warm outside today." "I agree with that assessment, but I don't think the children realize it is hot outside because they haven't slowed down since they came outside to play." "Jaiden, do you think it would be prudent to make them rest for a while inside to cool down and come back outside later?" "I do, but I have to get them inside without them getting upset. Otherwise, we won't have peace and certainly no quiet time inside until I let them go back outside. Hey guys, would you like to go inside for some ice cream?" Sally laughed when all the children ran onto the deck to go inside the house. "Jaiden, bribery works wonders, doesn't it?" "I may not be a mom, Sally, but I know what works to keep the dignity and quietness of our home." "Yeah, Ginny and your mom taught you well, didn't they?" "I would say so; the children are happy, I am happy, and neither of us is stressed.

"You go, bro!"
