Jaiden walked into the backyard where the children were playing and called them to come to sit around him, where he sat on the ground. "Guys, y'all are learning some not-so-nice words from your friends at school, and we need to talk about that. One of you used a dirty word that began with an F day before yesterday, and somebody used a dirty word that started with an A. When you hear your friends talking on the playground, and you

hear a word you don't hear at home, do you understand that the word you hear may be a dirty word you shouldn't say?"

Nathan Robert and Chuck spoke up, admitted to using the bad words, and told their daddy and uncle they were sorry and wouldn't do it again. Nathan, when you heard the bad word you used, what did you think when you heard the friend say it?"

"Daddy, the boy he said that to had a funny look on his face and walked away like he was scared, and Joey smiled because he scared Dominique. Uncle Jaiden, I heard the bad word I said from the same boy.

He said he wanted to scare Joey, and it worked; I didn't mean to say anything that was bad. That's OK, Chuck, but in our family, we choose to be friends with people and not enemies."

"When you hear a word you think is terrible, you need to talk to me, Daddy Peyton, Daddy Dale, or Daddy Charley, OK? If the word is a bad word, we will tell you it is bad and why you shouldn't say that word. Then, if we hear you repeat a bad word again, we will have to punish you for saying the word, and guess what? You will have to choose your punishment!"

"What do you guys think would be a fair punishment for saying bad words?" "Abraham raised his hand and said, "Daddy, would that be something like being unable to go to the beach on Sunday?"

Before Jaiden could answer Abraham, Jason raised his hand and said, "Uncle Jaiden, would we get in trouble and not be able to go walking up the mountain?" "Boys, those are types of punishment, but you will need to think about your punishment and make sure it isn't too hard on yourselves; your dads want it to be a fair punishment." "OK, Daddy, we'll do gooder."

"Now, what would you guys like for dinner?" All the children said they wanted 'spaschetti,' so Jaiden told them to go wash their hands and faces – with soap – and dry them well, and then they would get ready to go to Tony's. While the children were getting ready for dinner, Charlie and Dale walked in the garage door to the house and had spaghetti in hand that they picked up from Tony's on the way home from work. A few minutes later, Peyton came in the door a bit later than usual since he had to do rounds in the hospital before he went home from work.

Peyton walked straight to his and Jaiden's bedroom and showered before dinner. After dealing all afternoon with a patient who was reacting badly to his chemotherapy, he was exhausted. When he walked into the den, Jaiden asked him if he'd had a rough afternoon with rounds, and Peyton told him a couple of patients had problems after their chemo, and one boy had problems after having his radiation treatment.

"Peyton, was it Todd who reacted to the radiation?" "How did you guess?" "He had the same problem a couple of days ago. How'd you treat the problem?"

"Novocain spray and a pain tablet." "Did it work?" "Like a charm, Jaiden. Todd calmed down, began to relax, and got some rest. I ordered him a soft meal for dinner – and all the popsicles he could suck on for the evening."

"Were the popsicles the ones with Chloraseptic in them?" "Yes, and they worked almost immediately. But, unfortunately, he can only have one per hour until the radiation soreness subsides." "He may need a little something else, Peyton." "He has an anti-anxiety pill prescribed to help him relax."

"Good. I'll take the call if Todd has problems tonight and needs one of us."

"Babe, thanks for saying that; I'm exhausted tonight." "Yeah, I can tell. After the children go to bed, maybe we can sit in a warm jacuzzi, and I can rub your shoulders and back." "As long as that is all we do, I don't have the energy to do much else." "I bet a nice slow BJ will help you relax." "Ya know, the evening suddenly seems more relaxing than I thought it would be." Jaiden smiled.

"Guys, I talked to the children about using bad words they hear their friends say. Being smart enough to see the shock value of the cuss words lured them to use the terms." Dale said, "You think so, Jaiden?" "I do, Dale.

You had to see the expressions on the faces of the boys and hear the inflection in their voices."

"So, what was the result of the lecture?" "Dale, I don't like getting lectures, so I don't give them. We talked about the situation, and they realized that if one of the adults hears them say something naughty, they will be punished; however, the caveat is that they must choose their punishment. We have to make sure they aren't too harsh on themselves and that the time limit of the punishment fits the aberrant behavior."

"Otherwise, we don't interfere with what they decide to do to punish themselves with for bad behavior?"

"Exactly, Charley. Studies show that when children decide their punishment for their misdeeds, they are harsher on themselves than their parents would have been; we have to make sure that doesn't happen and, at the same time, ensure that the punishment they choose serves its purpose."

"Dude, I like the way you think. It must have been awesome growing up with your mom." "At times, Charley, but as you know, my mother can make you feel like a mushroom under a cow patty or, in my case, a bear patty. And to be honest, a lecture would have been less harsh at times; but the one thing I always knew was that my mother loved me beyond measure." "Jaiden, somehow I think she loves Dale and me the same way."

"She does, Charley; believe me!"

"Jaiden, what did we do to deserve her love that way?" "Charley, she always champions the underdog, and when she saw how your parents treated you back in the day, she went berserk; I had never seen her that angry before or after. I knew there was no way she would let them get away with treating Dale and you that way."

"Then I found out she took the day off from the clinic, flew to Pensacola, and backed your dads up against the walls in their offices. The rest is history, and here we are – one colossal family full of genuine love!"

"So true, Jaiden. Dale and I and our families will forever be grateful for that love. It's like Laurie says at the hospital's psychology clinic: family and friends forever - no matter what."

Peyton walked into the den, looked at Charley, and asked, "what's wrong, Charley; why the tears?" "Peyton, just when you think you have figured out why somebody who doesn't have to still loves you beyond measure, it's still hard for me to fathom sometimes."

"Charley, you're family. You will always be family, no matter what. We are a big family, and we will always be family. Our children are also your children; your children will always be our children, and we will ensure they always get what they need. Like Jaiden and my boys, they will get what they need but won't always get what they want. Some things they will have to earn." Charley lost control of his emotions when Peyton said that, so much so that Peyton went over to him and held him until he calmed down.

Wild-haired Chuck walked into the den, saw his daddy crying, and asked, "What's wrong, Daddy?" "Nothing, baby boy, nothing. It's all about loving someone because you can and not because you must. We should love everybody because we can - no matter how much we dislike what they do, say, or act. Sometimes we may have to love them from a distance, but we will still love them no matter what." "Like I love you, Daddy?"

"Exactly, son, and hopefully the way you love your brothers and sister too." "Daddy." "Yes, Chuck."

"If somebody messes with my sister or brothers, I'll bust 'em in the mouth." "I'm sure you will, son; always stick up for your sister and brothers."

Just as Charley finished his statement to Chuck, Alaina Noelle walked into the den. "Daddy." "Yes, sweetheart." "If anybody messes with my brothers or me, I'll kick their butt!" "That's my girl!" Jaiden laughed so hard at Alaina's statement that he almost fell off the couch.

"Charlie, when you and Dale get old, and Alaina Noelle is watching over you, I wonder what she will do to someone who is mean or rude to you two."

Alaina was in the kitchen door and said, Unka Jaiden, I'll kick their butt too!" "Charley, people wonder why a girl who grew up with many brothers turned out to be so tough; I think we have the answer to that question."

"I know we do, Bro; I pity the person who marries that girl; they will have to tow a very tight line with her."

Peyton said, "You are so right, Charley, and it is going to be so much fun to watch her dominate that person when it comes to her dads or brothers." Charley replied, "Peyton, Jaiden, shall we pray?" His response to Peyton drew much laughter from the guys.

"Jaiden, this is Don Sims. I looked into where the children learned those bad words and discovered who was using them. I have spoken with the boy, and he has apologized for using the rude words and promised he won't use them again."

"That's good, Doc. Was the boy surprised when you spoke with him?" "I'll say he was, especially since his parents were with him. His dad is a local Presbyterian minister."

"OH, NO! Please tell me it isn't Kyle Bouvier." "Now, Jaiden, you know I can't divulge names for privacy reasons, but, at the same time, I can't lie to you and say it isn't. Besides, Kyle said he would call you to apologize for his boy's language in front of your sons, nephews, and niece."

I wish you could have been here to see the look the boy's mother, Jessica, gave him; his eyes went as big as cat's eye marbles – you know, the big ones. That boy begged his mother to forgive him as she walked him out of my office. When she reached the office door, she turned and said she had forgotten something: 'Dr. Sims, may I borrow your paddle for a few minutes and a phone book too!' I handed her both and wondered what the heck she was going to do with a phone book, so I asked the good reverend what she wanted with the phone book. He said, 'Dr. Sims, you can hold the phone book against that boy's butt and hit it with the paddle. It will sting like the devil when his mother hits the phone book giving my son the same pain as hitting him without the local directory. The only difference, in this case, is that there will be no bruising whatsoever.'"

"About that time, I heard the paddle hit that phone book in an adjacent office, and you could have heard that boy yell three city blocks away. There were five swats of the paddle on that phone book before I heard the reverend's wife ask their son if he wanted to use any more foul language. Then, all I heard was, "no mama, no mama. I promise I won't say those words again...I promise. Please don't paddle me anymore; it's really stinging my fanny."

"Son, have you learned your lesson?" "Yes, mam, I have learned my lesson; I promise I won't say those words again." "And what else, son?" "I must apologize to Chuck and Nathan's parents for getting their boys in trouble and apologize to Chuck and Nathan for getting them in trouble." "That's correct. Their parents are friends of your dad's and mine, and you have embarrassed your dad and me." "Mom, I'm sorry, I really am; please forgive me and don't paddle me anymore."

"Buddy, I forgive you, and so does your dad, but you better understand we won't put up with you using foul language for any reason; AM I CLEAR ON THAT!" "Yes, mam."

"Don, I am sorry the boy got a paddling from his mother, but I appreciate learning a new corporal punishment that serves a purpose without hurting anything more than the child's pride. And as much as anything else, that story is hilarious! I would love to have been a fly on the wall to see his mother's expression and his face when she hit that phone bod with your paddle." "Jaiden, the funny thing is that I have never used that paddle. It has hung on my office wall for nearly thirty years. Well, I just wanted to let you, Peyton, Charlie, and Dale know I got to the meat of the problem, and the boy's mother cooked the meat – so to speak!" "Thanks, Don; I'll let the guys know."

When Jaiden ended the call, he was dying laughing to the point that the other guys asked what was so funny. When Jaiden relayed the story to them, they laughed as hard as he did. About that time, their doorbell rang.

Jaiden answered the door and was surprised to see Kyle and his son standing there. "Jaiden, my son has something to say to you, your husband, Dale, and Charley." "Kyle, you two come inside; the guys and the children are in the den rough-housing."

They walked to the den, and Jaiden told Peyton, Dale, and Charley that little Kyle needed to say something to them. The guys stopped their playtime and gave little Kyle their undivided attention. The reverend looked at his son and said, "OK, son, go ahead and say what you have to say to these gentlemen."

Doctor Jaiden, Doctor Peyton, Mr. Dale, and Mr. Charley, I'm sorry I used some bad words I heard and got Nathan and Chuck in trouble. My momma had a good talk with me, and so did my dad. I promise I won't use those words anymore, and I hope you will forgive me."

When little Kyle said his peace, The dads sat on the floor and called little Kyle over to them. When he got to them, Jaiden sat Kyle on his lap and said, "Kyle, we all do and say things at times when we shouldn't, and we also have to ask people to forgive us. So I forgive you and want you to know that Dr. Peyton, Mr. Dale, and Mr. Charlie forgive you, and we still love you."

"You love me, Dr. Jaiden?"

"Yes, Kyle, we all do." "But why, Dr. Jaiden?" "Kyle, do you remember when God said to love your neighbors as you love yourself and hold nothing against their children?" "Yes, sir, but you said you loved me; why?"

"Well, buddy, we love you because we can; we forgive you because we can and because it is the right thing to do; we don't do it just because God told us to; we do it because we want to and because it is the right thing to do, and we hope you will do the same thing as you grow up and become a good man like your dad."

Kyle looked up at his dad as a tear fell from his eyes; he'd never thought about how his dad was a 'good man,' and hearing that made his heart feel good; it hit the reverend in his heart as well.

Without being further prompted, Kyle apologized to Nathan and Chuck. They hugged Kyle and said, "It's OK; we learned not to use bad words too. Our daddy talked to us and explained everything; let's go outside and play. So the boys took off for the backyard and played hard until the reverend decided he and Kyle needed to go home for dinner.

Jaiden stepped outside and got a concerned look on his face. "Peyton, get the rifle and a couple of cartridges; he's back. The reverend became concerned with what Jaiden said and asked, "who's back?" Before he answered the reverend, he ran to the yard and rushed the children inside. "Reverend, it's not who but what. We have a bear that can stop coming to our house and jumping the fence, and I'll be danged if he is going to hurt any children around here.

Peyton got the gun and cartridges, loaded the rifle, and Jaiden said, "OK, bear, bring it on!"

"Jaiden, how'd you know a bear was behind the fence?"

"We had a problem with bears back home where Mom and I lived, and Mom and Ginny showed me how to take care of them in quick order – I've never forgotten what a stinking bear smells like."

At about that time, the bear jumped the fence and was larger than any of the bears that had been around the house.

A shot rang out, and the bear fell where he stood. As Jaiden's phone rang, the Rabbi ran out of his house to see what was happening. Ginny wanted to know if the shot she heard came from his home. He assured her it did and that he had killed the biggest bear he had seen since moving away from Abingdon.

The reverend was surprised when Ginny showed up with the most enormous, sharpest knives he had ever seen.

"Jaiden, what is she about to do with those knives?"

"Watch her, Kyle. She'll clean that bear from head to toe in about ten minutes. I saw her do it the first time when I was about 5 or 6 years old, and she was raising me in Abingdon, Virginia, where we all lived at the time. If you think I shot and dropped that bear quickly, you should see her do it."

"That little lady bear hunts and then cleans what she kills? The only thing I can tell you is don't mess with a child and let her see you do it; she'll shoot and gut you just like that bear if you mess with one of her children."

"Thanks for telling me; I'll make sure not to make her mad." "She's a sweet lady, Kyle, just don't mess with children, or you'll pay an exacting price."

"You said she raised you and is raising your boys while you're at work?" "Yes, sir. She kept me from when I was born until I entered high school, and then she moved to Erie. Mom knew she was here but never told me until we moved to Erie to attend medical school.

She and Peyton's dad bought this home for us, and us included Dale and Charley – and always will."

"When we started thinking about children, Peyton's sister agreed to be my surrogate, and her sister-in-law wanted to be Peyton's surrogate. The next thing we knew, Peyton's mother told Jenny, Peyton's sister, that she wished someone could also be a surrogate for Dale and Charley. Jenny told her to hold that thought and then called two friends at the synagogue where her husband is the Rabbi. They jumped at the chance, and then our Rabbi told a fertility specialist in our temple about our plans, and he offered his services at no cost. The next thing we knew was that 11 months later, I had fathered triplets with Peyton's sister, and Dale fathered triplets with the lady who was his surrogate.

They stayed with us for several months before the children were born, went into labor at the same time, had the babies on the same day, and the babies were all delivered by the same doctor."

"A few months before the surrogates came to stay with us to give birth here, Charley's dad, a big-time builder in Florida, brought his entire crew to Erie and built the additions onto the house for the children and for the surrogates to stay in. So before you go, we'll show you the children's rooms, huge bathrooms, and the rooms downstairs; they're amazing additions."

"Jaiden, how long has Mrs. Stuart been here?" "Maybe twenty minutes; why?"

"That bear is completely skinned, and she is dividing up the cuts of meat." "I told you so; she is an amazing, strong Christian woman." "I have to meet Mrs. Stewart."

"You can meet her when her husband gets here to help package the meat for the freezer. Then, if we're lucky, she'll prepare a bear-meat feast for us in the next couple of weeks." "Jaiden, I've never tried bear." "Well, you're about to, so get ready."

When Gampy walked into the house, Jaiden said, Kyle, this is my adoptive father, Gampy. When my dad was killed in Africa in the plane crash, Gampy took over my father's duties and kept me out of trouble."

"Boy, I didn't keep you out of trouble; you never got into any."

"Gampy, this is Reverend Kyle Bouvier, Kyle, this is my Gampy, Mr. Ezra Stuart."

"Reverend, it is so nice to meet you. I have been admiring your wife's skills at butchering that bear."

"Hm, Reverend, from the looks of things, that bear was a threat to the children. So she had a mission in butchering that bear to make sure he never got up and threatened her babies again." "Jaiden laughed and said, "What did I tell you, Kyle."

Kyle's phone rang, and his wife called to ask why he stayed late. When he told her why, she said, "I'll be over there in just a minute." She almost fainted when she arrived at Jaiden's house and saw the bear.

"Mom, Dr. Jaiden killed that bear when he came to the yard while we played outside. Then, Ginny came over to get the bear meat ready for the freezer."

"Kyle, did you call that lady by her first name?"

Jaiden spoke up and said, "Jessica, we all call her Ginny. She raised me in Virginia and is now here helping raise my children. She shot the last bear we killed in the yard and put it in her freezer, and she'll do the same with this one."

"My word, Jaiden, she must be one strong woman." "Jessica, like I told Kyle, don't mess with her babies unless you want to see her turn into a momma lioness." "She sounds just like me, Jaiden." "Probably is, Jessica."

"Kyle, how long has it taken Mrs. Stuart to skin and process that bear?" "20 minutes, Jessica; it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen."

"I guess so! That's amazing." "Jessica, please don't make her mad about the children!" "I won't. It would be nice to have her speak to the women's group at church." Jaiden said, "Ask her, Jessica; she would gladly do that.

Ask her to tell you about the prayer ministry she has with Peyton's and my patients. Every time she, Gampy, The Reverend, and Granny pray over one of the children, God cures them in record time, and to this point, none of the children's cancers have come back. If we have a problem with one of our patients, we get the parent's permission, and she is the first person we call."

"Amazing!" "Yes, Jessica, she is a truly amazing Christian lady!"

Kyle helped Gampy and The Reverend get the bear carcass up and loaded onto a truck before he headed home. Little Kyle asked, "Daddy, weren't you afraid to mess with that bear?" "Not with Ginny around, son; not with Ginny around."

Jessica had a huge smile when her husband said that to their son.

When the Bouvier's got home and put Kyle Junior to bed, Kyle said, Jessica, I think everything that has happened has had an amazing impact on our son. He learned a biblical lesson from Jaiden, Peyton, and their brothers.

He learned humility from his apology and true forgiveness from that whole family."

"He apologized to Nathan and Chuck, who quickly forgave him and took him outside to play. After that, it was as if nothing had ever happened. Care to guess what Sunday's sermon is going to be about?"

"Sweetheart, I already know, and I can't wait to hear that sermon. You and I also learned a bit of humility tonight." "Yes, we did, baby, yes we did."

"Jaiden, I'm gonna put some of this bear meat in your freezer since my freezer is full."

"That's fine, Ginny; thank you so much for helping butcher that bear." "Son, you ain't never heard me say this before, but that damned bear meant harm to my babies. I will enjoy every bite of him once I get him cooked up. Maybe we'll have Kyle, his wife, and son over for a Saturday night feast."

"That would be awesome, Ginny. Kyle said he'd never tasted bear before." "Son, when I cook that bear, he won't know it's bear meat." "Ginny, that's what I told Kyle.

"Kyle, I know this is early notice, but Ginny and Granny wanted me to ask you if you, Jessica, and little Kyle could come for dinner Saturday night." "Let me ask Jessica; hold on a second."

"Jaiden, Jessica said what time?" "How's seven o'clock sound?" "Perfect, we'll be there a few minutes early if that's OK."

"Then make it four pm, and the children can have fun getting dirty in the backyard, and the adults can enjoy the famous coffee Dale makes and maybe some fresh peach knishes."

"That sounds lovely, Jaiden." "Kyle, if you've never tried Dale's coffee and knishes, you are in for a real treat.

If you see Dan Stanislauski this week, ask him. I guarantee he and Jay will show up for coffee with us.

"I'm scheduled to see him tomorrow on a child abuse case; I'll make sure to ask him."

"What kind of child abuse case, Kyle?" "A man made a Christian out of his son by beating the living hell out of him. It was a little boy Kyle knew, and the mother came to me for help, so I took her to see Don." "Is Don going to hear the case?" "He is; the plea is supposed to be Wednesday morning at eleven."

"Kyle, tell Don that if he needs a medical work on the boy to call me, and I'll have it ready on Wednesday morning; I'll be more than glad to be in court to help y'all – no charge." "Jaiden, I appreciate that. I'll tell Don about your offer."

Monday morning, Kyle took the boy and his mother to Don's chambers so Don and Jay could talk to the little boy. Jay will represent the mother in a divorce action and ensure the boy's dad pays child support out of his butt until the boy completes college for his desired vocation.

"Hey Jaiden, Don here. I talked with Kyle Bouvier, and he told me you offered to do a complete medical workup on a boy whose dad is about to be sentenced by me for physically abusing and torturing him. So if I send him and his mother to your office now, do you think you could do the exam?"

"Don, send them over and tell them to tell the receptionist to let me know as soon as they arrive; I'll do the workup and blood tests to go with it and be in court Wednesday morning with the results."

"So you already know about the hearing on Wednesday?" "I do, and I can't wait to meet that boy's dad face to face."

The boy and his mother met Jaiden at his office, and Jaiden did a physical exam with x-rays and blood tests. When he got a wet read on the x-rays, he went ballistic.

"That no good son-of-a bitch! Peyton, this boy had had three leg breaks, two fractures in his left arm, and four of seven of the tarsal bones in his right foot appear to have been broken at some point. Add to those four broken metatarsal bones and add the fact that all five phalanges of the right foot appear to have been smashed; that boy was tortured, pure and simple."

"Jaiden, what time is court on Wednesday?" "Eleven that morning, but I will call Don and see if he can make it earlier." "Good; let me know; I want to be there too!"

"Don, this is Jaiden. Could you make the hearing on Wednesday at nine am instead of eleven? This boy has horrific injuries that will take some time to explain. And to be truthful, I would like to piss off his dad to make him mad enough to take a swing at me." "That bad, Jaiden?"

"Worse!"

"You may not know that I was a champion boxer in high school and junior college and never lost a match, and I am so furious that I want just one punch at the man."

"Jaiden, I can arrange that and make him mad enough to swing at you. And by the way, you have a legal right to defend yourself, if you know what I mean."

"I do, and I thank you. Peyton will be there dressed like a street bum, so get the bailiffs to let him into the courtroom. He's going to want to address the court in an impromptu manner. "

"You will be amazed at how he intends to speak to the man: lower Alabama, uneducated, country drawl. Hopefully, the man will want to challenge him as well."

"Jaiden, the more you talk, the better I like what I am hearing. I'll see if I can't accommodate both of you.

When Jaiden and Peyton got home that afternoon, Charley and Dale could tell Jaiden was highly agitated. So Dale said, "Jaiden, you and Peyton go to your bedroom for a while, relax, and calm down; Charley and I will watch the children." "Thanks, Dale; I need to do that more than you know."

When Jaiden and Peyton were in their bedroom and locked the door, Jaiden slid his hands into the back of Peyton's pants and said, "Damn, babe, I need to feel your naked body next to mine and have a make-out session to help me relax."

"Jaiden, a make-out session meaning what?" "Anything that happens, babe." "OK! Why don't we start with a warm soak in the jacuzzi?

"Then I'll take you around the world and help you relax so you'll sleep for an hour afterward." Please, sweetheart?"

Peyton went into the bathroom and filled the jacuzzi with warm water, just as Jaiden likes it.

Then he took Jaiden by the hand and led him into the bathroom, where he removed all of Jaiden's clothes, going down on him as he took Jaiden's pants down. He worked his magic on his husband until he felt Jaiden's body tense and the taste of semen begin to fill his mouth. He swallowed every drop Jaiden gave him and suddenly caught Jaiden as his legs collapsed.

That hadn't happened to Jaiden in a long time, and it bothered Peyton to know Jaiden was so tense about the boy he'd examined. Tensed, no, Jaiden was furious!

When the water in the jacuzzi began to cool, Peyton drained the tub, carried Jaiden to their bed, and lay him on end. Next, he went to the nightstand, retrieved the Hawaiian massage oil, and gave his husband the massage of a lifetime.

When Peyton completed the massage, he made slow, deliberate love to Jaiden and cleaned up afterward. That done, he noticed that Jaiden had fallen asleep, so he quietly got dressed, left Jaiden to rest in a quiet, cool, calm, dark bedroom, and went downstairs to help Charley and Dale feed the children their dinner. Two hours passed before Jaiden awoke, dressed, and went downstairs to play with his children before putting them to bed.
