What smells so good?" "Room spray! We changed, washed off, dressed, and put all ten babies back to bed. Breakfast is knishes and coffee, and then the four of us are going to have a talk." "What's up, Dale?" "After breakfast, Jaiden." "Yes, sir." "The knishes are fantastic." "Thanks, Peyton; think Columbian Jewish. I got the recipe from Greg's grandmother who was raised in orthodox Judaism in Bogota, Columbia." "These are the best knishes I have ever had. The coffee is delicious, but it is different. What did you do differently?" "Jaiden, I got some Hawaiian Grog coffee and mixed it half and half with the India Monsoonal Malabar." "Man, this coffee is good!" "I'm glad you and Peyton are enjoying it. I tried it before I made it for you. It had to pass the Dale test." Jaiden and Peyton had finished eating breakfast, so Dale walked to them and got in their faces. "I am going to say this one time, so you better listen and you better listen good! You two have had an incredibly rough week at the hospital and this is the first weekend you have had off in a long while, so here's the deal: you have a reservation at the Holiday Inn on the Bay. Your room overlooks Lake Erie, so there will be no privacy issues with anyone peering into your room. You are going to pack you a bag right now and head to the Hotel." "When you check in, you better not come out of the room before Sunday at checkout. Your meals will be brought to your room. You are allowed to have clothes on when you answer the door to get your food. When you finish your food, you had better remove all your clothes and have the most exciting, most romantic time since Hawaii. If you don't and I find out, I am going to put my ten-inch foot up your half-inch butts. Understood!" "Yes, sir." "Go get your bag packed. All you need is one change of clothes each, no more than that. Lunch will be brought to your room at 12:30, and dinner will arrive at 6:00. I have coffee bagged for 10 cups per pack. All you have to do is add ten cups of water. Enough said, get out of here and enjoy your romantic weekend!" Jaiden and Peyton packed exactly what they were told to pack. Jaiden added the French-milled soap, Hawaiian massage oil, and essential toiletries. Peyton and he then got in the Lincoln. Before Jaiden cranked the vehicle, he looked at Peyton and said, "KISS ME!" Peyton passionately kissed Jaiden, backed off, looked at Jaiden and smiled. "Jaiden said, "hot-damn, we are going to have an unbelievable weekend. We might walk like we've been riding horses for a week tomorrow, but we will have fun on the range until we mount the horses!" "Peyton pulled Jaiden to him and once more passionately kissed his husband. Jaiden was so excited he almost backed through the garage door. When they got to their hotel room, there was a bottle of non-alcoholic champaign and a box of French chocolate covered raspberries Dale ordered from a specialty shop in Paris. Jaiden was impressed, but he was more impressed with his husband's naked body in the shower. When they'd had their shower, they climbed in bed and played slow swing music on the television. Peyton was on his back, and Jaiden was lying on his left side as he read the note from Dale that said to make a pot of coffee to go with the chocolate covered raspberries. He poured a cup of coffee for Peyton and him and he was feeding Peyton the treats like Romeo feeding Juliette. They drank the coffee with the treats and thought they paired beautifully together – the treats and coffee!" Jaiden had the AC on high because he knew the room would get steamy, and it did. Peyton and he made out for several hours like they had finished their first month of dating and got naked in the bed. Peyton began kissing Jaiden in all the places that made him squirm like a child being tickled. He started making his way down the street until he found the ready and ripe banana which he enjoyed to the fullest. To do so, he had to turn in the bed. When he did, Jaiden also found a ready and ripe banana which he enjoyed to the max. When he and Peyton had consumed their bananas to the fullest, Peyton turned to Jaiden and embraced him as they fell asleep until there was a knock on the door at lunch time. Peyton donned his pants and answered the door. Dale and Charley had ordered a broiled seafood platter from the Wharf on the Bay. He and Peyton could not believe what Dale and Charley had done for them. When lunch was finished, Jaiden opened the room's windows and Peyton and he thoroughly enjoyed the crisp air flowing into the room. It was cold enough that they had to snuggle under the covers. As they did, they explored each other's bodies like they did the first time they slept together at Wellstone. It was funny, because Peyton had Jaiden panting like a dog that had just run two miles to get home. Jaiden looked at Peyton and said, "Damn, Sweetheart, after four years and five children, you still have making out down to an art form!" "You're not so bad yourself, Love. If you didn't notice already, we are both panting looking for a breath of fresh air." "Jaiden, do me a favor, please!" "What is that, Peyton?" "Get up and walk to the door and then to the window, turn, and look at me." "How's this?" "Great, now walk to the chest of drawers and sit back on them and cross your arms and ankles." "Yep, you are still so hot you can make me rise to the occasion when I don't have the energy to do it!" "OK, Peyton, your turn. Do the same thing you had me do." Peyton complied. "Sweetheart, what hooked me when I first saw you, it's even better now. Come here!" Peyton walked to the bed and Jaiden grabbed him and pulled him under the covers. Sparks started flying and lightning flashes shown through the room's windows and lit up the bay. There was a man and woman standing at the railing at the bay. He looked at her and said, "Did you see those light flashes and sparks in that room behind us on the top floor?" "I did." "Do you think we need to notify the hotel management there may be a fire in the room?" "No, let's not do that. It may be a couple in the room creating some friction resulting in those light flashes." "You're probably right, and I bet they are young and letting loose of a lot of tension." If the man and woman only knew. So much time had passed that Peyton and Jaiden had no idea it was dinner time until there was a knock on the door. This time Peyton put on some clothes and answered the door. The dinner came from Restaurant 1609. Two T-Bone steaks, medium-rare, baked potatoes with butter and sour cream, hot bread pudding for dessert and Tea with Stevia. Jaiden said, "Dale and Charley went all out for this weekend. They either saved money to do this or Mom or Dad helped. Either way, Dale and Charley were very sweet to arrange this weekend for us." "Yes, they were, Jaiden. The question now is how are we going to return the favor?" "Peyton, we'll keep our mouths shut and our ears open; they'll eventually tell us." Jaiden and Peyton brushed their teeth and began preparing for a marathon love session. When they were ready, Jaiden lubed Peyton and himself and then slid into his husband. He began making slow, rhythmic love to Peyton edging himself over and over for an hour before he climaxed with a cowboy's yell. Peyton grabbed Jaiden and began kissing him. Jaiden was so turned on he could barely wait for the treat he was about to receive from Peyton. The lights were turned off and Peyton slipped on top of Jaiden and slowly entered him. The way he made love to Jaiden was more tender and more loving than Jaiden could ever remember; he was feeling incredibly loved by his husband. It was an hour before Peyton climaxed, and when he did, he laid on top of Jaiden and held him until he naturally slid out of his lover. It was going to be almost impossible to top tonight's romantic interlude for the mates. Peyton and Jaiden spent every ounce of energy they had, and they quickly fell asleep in each other's arms. Had someone been there to take pictures of them after they fell asleep, the result would be pictures of the most loving couple anyone could ever dream of seeing. Jaiden and Peyton checked out of the hotel at noon on Sunday and met Charley, Dale and their children at Tony's for lunch. When Dale and Charley saw Peyton and Jaiden walk into Tony's, they started laughing. Peyton asked, "what's so funny, guys?" "Charley whispered in Peyton's ear that he and Jaiden looked like they had been riding a horse for a week without getting off. Peyton whispered the message into Jaiden's ear. Jaiden said, "I told ya that would happen." Everybody laughed at that point. Jaiden and Peyton picked up, kissed, and told each of their boys they loved them before putting them in high chairs and getting them ready to get spaghetti everywhere. When the spaghetti was placed in front of the children, they tore into it like wolves on a kill. While the children ate a good bit of the spaghetti, they got a good share of it on themselves and on the floor. Their Dads were laughing while watching the children enjoying their favorite food. The only thing different this time from last was that there was some ground meat in the sauce. Charley took pictures with his cell phone and texted them to all the grandparents and great-grandparents and told them the next time they were in Erie, they would have to go to Tony's to see the grandchildren and great-grandchildren eating spaghetti, that it was a hilarious site to see. When the guys and their children got home, it was warm enough that Jaiden and Peyton put their boy's coats and hoodies on them and took them outside to play in the grass. When the children stepped on the grass, they started chasing each other and hysterically laughing. Their Dads were having the best time watching their sons having fun with each other. The boys would look at their Dad's and then start heading somewhere they knew they weren't supposed to go. When their Dads would go get them and bring them back to the middle of the back yard, the boys would start laughing. Jaiden and Peyton had to let their children know they had to be obedient to their Dads, but deep inside, they were laughing with their sons. Richard got home from the hospital just after the babies were put to bed. He sat and talked with Peyton and Jaiden for a minute to let them know Jackson had a brief setback when the techs were bathing him and had his neck brace off. He apparently moved his neck wrong and caused himself quite a bit of pain and had to be medicated a bit heavier than normal, but the anesthesiologist took care of that. When he woke up, his pain had subsided a little but was down enough to be easily manageable. Richard told Peyton and Jaiden he saw Mr. Brunson in the office earlier in the day and that he is recuperating well and getting stronger by the day. They were glad to hear that, but asked how Mr. Agostini was doing. "Jaiden, Peyton, the infection has finally cleared up and Dr. Brannen said if he was still doing well Thursday afternoon to discharge him. It's all in the chart." "Richard, I work in the office in the morning and Peyton has rounds at the hospital, so enjoy getting to sleep late for a change. I'll swap places with Peyton at seven to do rounds and work in the ER. By the way, if you hear Charley and Dale talking about something they would like to do or experience, don't say anything to them, but please let me or Peyton know. They gave us an incredible weekend and we'd like to repay them in kind." "So, you had a great weekend; that is good considering the stress you had last week." "Good morning, big guys; how are you this morning? Your Daddy loves you so much and I love to see your smiles every morning. Let's go potty so Daddy Peyton can give you your breakfast." "Good morning, sweet boys! I have some oatmeal with maple syrup for you this morning. I hope you like it. Here's your bowl and a spoon. Let Daddy see if you can feed yourself with the spoon." The boys were very smart and they picked up the spoons just like their Dads and their uncles did, and they ate every drop of the oatmeal. As a bonus treat, they got a little bit of cool decaf coffee in their sippy cups and then a little milk. The difference this morning is that they were ready to play instead of going back to bed. They did potty one more time before their Dads went to work, but they were playing up a storm with their toys when Granny and Ginny came in. Ginny looked at Granny and said, "MMMMM Hmmm, I told you these boys were getting ready to start playing in the morning instead of going back to bed; they are just like their Daddy's." "Martha, they surely are." "Jaiden, what did my grandbabies have for breakfast?" "Ginny, they had oatmeal with some maple syrup and some hot coffee." "Boy, you better tell me you didn't give my grandbabies hot coffee or I am going to tan your hide!" Jaiden started laughing and said, "Ginny, it was cool coffee with Stevia and more milk than decaf coffee; I just wanted to get you started good this morning." "Jaiden, I love you, too, but if you do that again, I will call your momma and tell her you are being mean to me." Ginny looked at Granny and broke into a big smile as Jaiden started saying, "Ginny, Please, whatever you do, don't say that to Mom. It will send her into orbit even if it is a joke, and last week was stressful enough!" "Jaiden, was it that bad last week?" "Ginny, it is another child case where the child removed his seatbelt in the car and his Dad didn't know. They were rear-ended by another car and the 10-year-old boy had severe injuries to his neck from where he hit the dash in the car. Peyton was caring for him Thursday and he told Peyton his neck hurt the night before like a nasty bee sting. Peyton had a CRT x-ray done and an hour later the boy was in surgery. He had two ruptured discs and the surgeon had to fuse two vertebrae. He can never play sports again and he was a good soccer player. His parents are friends of Peyton, Richard, and me at the synagogue, so please pray for all of them. His Dad is crushed emotionally over what happened and he is agonizing terribly." "Jaiden, thanks for letting me know. I'll call our prayer team shortly and we will pray that boy out of the hospital and pray for him to get well very quickly." Jaiden kissed Ginny and Granny and told them thank you, that he would let the boy know tonight that he was being prayed for. As soon as Jaiden left for work, Granny called her husband and told him about the little boy and asked him to call the Deacons and get them praying and she would call the Lady's Prayer Circle and get them to pray for the boy. She said, "Taylor, the law won't let Jaiden tell us his name, but God knows who he is and that is enough for us to pray." The Reverend told Granny, "Honey, I am going to call the Deacons and get them to meet with me tonight and we are going to pray that boy out of that hospital and we are going to pray that a miracle takes place in his neck and that he doesn't have to give up his sports." "Thank you, Taylor, I love you." "I love you, too, Geraldine, and I always will." Peyton and Jaiden swapped off between the office and the hospital. Jaiden finally got to Jackson's room while making rounds and was surprised when he checked Jackson's chart and saw that his lab results were perfect; there was no infection, and the swelling that was in his neck the day before was gone. What surprised him the most was that Jackson hadn't taken any pain medications in the previous fourteen hours. He lowered Jackson's bed and pulled up a chair so he could talk to the boy. "Jackson, I need you to talk to me and I need you to tell me the truth and not what you think I want to hear. Can you do that?" "Yes, sir, I can, and I will." "OK, the first thing I want to know is how you slept last night." "Mr. Jaiden, I let my bed down flat like my bed at home and I fell asleep really quick. I thought my neck would hurt, but it didn't. All the pain went away when I laid flat on the bed. My neck hasn't hurt since." "From noon yesterday until right now, how much pain medication do you think you have taken?" "I haven't had any medication for a while; I don't know how long it has been." "Jackson, you haven't had any pain medication in over fourteen hours and you are eating everything on your plate when they bring you your food. Have you had any problems swallowing when you eat? "No sir. At first, my throat was sore, but it hasn't been sore like it was for a couple of days." Jaiden turned around and looked at Jackson's Mom, Helen, and motioned for her to meet him in the hallway. When Jaiden looked at her, she could see his eyes had turned red and were very watery. When they got into the hallway Jaiden asked Helen about conditions in the home; any animals inside that could trip Jackson; were there any throw rugs that could cause him to slip and fall? Was his bedroom upstairs or down stairs since he could lose his balance and fall on stairs, especially coming down stairs? Helen told Jaiden they lived in a single-story ranch style home, and they had one Siamese cat who would follow Jackson, but the cat always stayed at least a foot behind Jackson when he was walking in the house. When Jackson sits down in the house, his cat always jumps into his lap. "Helen, what about animals in the yard?" "Jaiden, we don't have any outside animals. Jeremy is extremely allergic to dogs, that is why we have a cat as a pet for Jackson." "Helen, when you walk in your yard, are there any small holes, pits, or small water made trenches Jackson could trip over or that would make him fall?" "None that I know of, Jaiden. Jeremy has a landscape service that keeps the yards up very well." "Helen, Jackson has suddenly gotten so much better that I see no need to keep him in the hospital, but when he goes home, there can be no running, and there certainly cannot be any playing of sports of any kind, not even shooting hoops in the driveway since that would require him to move his neck around in ways that could send him back to the hospital. I am going to order a CRT to be done as soon as possible and if everything looks good, I will discharge Jackson from the hospital." "I'll need for you and Jeremy to take him to the medical supply store and get him a walker. I would prefer that he get a walker with six-inch wheels, brakes, and a seat he can sit on if he gets tired while walking around in the yard or taking a walk in the neighborhood with you and Jeremy. Is it possible for Jeremy to meet us in Jackson's room after the CRT is done?" "Jaiden, he is planning on being here at one, would that be a good time for you?" "Perfect. Let me go order the CRT so we can make sure his neck should be ok if he goes home." Jaiden ordered the CRT and radiology said it was open at the moment and they were on the way up to get Jackson. "Jaiden, do you want the CRT with contrast?" "That's not a bad idea, it will help us see things a little bit better. I'd rather be safe than sorry." Jaiden was in a patient's room checking a surgical drain tube when he heard, Jaiden; 2 2 9, Jaiden 2 2 9. Jaiden removed the surgical gloves and thoroughly washed his hands. He took out his phone and hit a couple of buttons and then said, "This is Jaiden." "Jaiden, please hold for a moment while I transfer you to Dr. Shumar in radiology." "Dr. Shumar." "Dr. Shumar, this is Jaiden." "Yes, sir, Jackson's CRT was remarkable. The fusions are already grafting into the patient's vertebrae, no infection noted, and no swelling. I don't know what you and Peyton, and Richard have done for this boy, but if I ever have to have surgery like Jackson had, I hope the three of you will be my caretakers." "Dr. Shumar, thank you for the wonderful compliment. I'll pass your sentiments on to Peyton and Richard." "Janice may I have a set of release papers, and I'll need an activities avoidance sheet." "Here you go, sir. It's nice to see your smile back on your face." "Thanks, Janice, I finally have something to smile about." "Jaiden, whose getting to go home?" "Jackson." "Jaiden, you have to be kidding me!" "Not at all, Janice, he is doing that well and he owes that to two old ladies and their church members and pastor who have gone into a prayer war for Jackson." Jaiden called Ginny at the house and asked her what she had said her prayer group and the Reverend and Deacons were going to do. "Jaiden, I told you we were going to pray that boy out of the hospital." "Ginny, I have to tell you this: I am about to discharge him from the hospital." "How he is doing can only be described as a miracle. Thank you and the ladies of your church for praying. Please tell them, the Reverend, and the Deacons that Hashem heard their prayers and honored them." "Jaiden, I am going to do that right now!" Jaiden went to Jackson's room, looked at him and his Mom and said, "Jackson, Helen, what was seen on the CRT can only be described as a miracle. The fusions have already started to graft into place. Dr. Shumar said there didn't appear to be any infection or swelling in the neck. Buddy, I am going to let you go home, but you are going to have to promise me you won't do any of the things I am about to tell you not to do. Can and will you promise me you won't break the rules?" Just as Jaiden had finished saying that, Jeremy walked into the room with Rabbi Kravitz. "Hello gents, I am about to go over some rules Jackson will have to follow when he gets home." "OK, Buddy are you ready to hear what you can't do when you get home?" "Yes, sir." "Number one: No running or getting in a hurry for any reason." "Number two: I want you to take two Motrin in the morning and about thirty minutes before you go to bed." "Number three: No bending over for anything and NO lifting of anything, not even your cat." "Number four: Keep your neck-brace on all the time except when you are showering. When you shower, I want your Dad to help you shower and I want him to wash your hair so you don't bend your neck and so you don't slip and fall. Don't be embarrassed because he will see you without clothes on and you will probably see him without clothes on when he gets into the shower to help you. If you get an erection while he is helping you bathe, that is perfectly normal for boys and men, so don't let it embarrass you." "Number five: On the way home, your parents are going to stop at the medical supply store and get you a walker with six-inch wheels, brakes, and a seat so that if you get tired while walking with your parents in the neighborhood, you can lock the brakes and sit on the walker's seat to rest. I don't want you walking anywhere, especially in the yard, without using the walker. It will help you with your balance until your body gets stronger from the surgery. The folks at the medical supply store will adjust the handles to fit your height." "Number six: Don't bend your neck to kiss your girlfriend, let her bend her neck and turn her head to kiss you." "Number seven: What happened in the wreck was an accident, so no fussing, yelling, screaming, accusing, or arguing about what happened. It isn't something anybody intentionally did, so forgive and forget. "Number eight: Every morning and every night, I want you to hug each other and tell each other how much you love and appreciate each other." "I am going to give you a prescription for an antibiotic you need to take with food; take it after breakfast and at bedtime. Make sure you eat something first so the medicine won't upset your stomach. Take the medication with water, not with milk or coke." "Jackson, Sally will be in here in a few minutes to push you in a wheel chair to your parent's car." "That's great, Mr. Jaiden, she's HOT!" "Jackson, you can say that to me, to your parents, and to the Rabbi, but you can't say that to or in front of the nurses, it might make them mad and get you in trouble with them. Understood?" "Yes, sir, but she is hot." Just at that moment, Sally walked into the room and said, "Jackson, the hot nurse is here to roll you downstairs." "Ms. Sally, I`m sorry , I didn't mean for you to hear that, it's just that you are so pretty. I hope when I get older that my girlfriend is as beautiful as you." "Jackson, thank you for the compliment. I don't get upset when boys like you say I'm hot, but if your Dad or Rabbi Kravitz said that, I would get angry. They're old enough to know better, you aren't. And you know, I am sure you will get a cute girlfriend because you are really cute, and I bet you will be very handsome when you grow up." Jackson's mom looked at him and said, "Jackson, you were really cute the way you blushed when Ms. Sally said that." "Seth, do you remember seeing Richard, Mr. Jaiden's brother-in-law, here in the hospital?" Yes, Mam?" Mr. Jaiden's spouse, Peyton, is Richard's brother. Richard and I are getting married in June. Maybe you can be a ring bearer in our wedding at the temple if you keep getting better. Richard's and Peyton's little brother, Seth, will be in the wedding. He's a hoot like you, so you two will get along well after you meet each other." "Ms. Sally, Seth was my best friend in school before he got hurt and moved to Alabama. I didn't know Richard was his brother." "Have you talked to Seth lately?" "No, Mam, not since he moved to Alabama." Jaiden wrote Seth's phone number on a piece of paper and handed it to Jackson. "Jackson, that is Seth's cell number. His last name is Riley now. Peyton's Mom and Dad adopted him and Richard. Call him when you get home, he'll get a kick out of talking to you. He's got an old mule he rides and plays with, a bunch of sheep he plays with in the pasture, and a couple of chickens that follow him and the mule everywhere." "Helen, Jeremy, call the surgeon's office tomorrow and make a follow-up appointment. "He'll probably want to see Jackson every couple of weeks for a month or so until he's satisfied things are on track the way he wants them to be." "Jaiden, thank you for everything. You, Peyton, and Richard have been awesome. Hopefully we'll see you at the temple Saturday morning." "You're welcome, Helen. Unless I have rounds assigned to me or there is a big emergency in the ER, I'll see you at the temple. Rabbi, you and Nancy come over tonight and y'all can taste the new blend of coffee Dale is serving now. If you thought the coffee was good before, wait until you taste this. Jeremy, Helen, you are also welcome to come over, you'll need to help Jackson up the steps. 7:30 should be a good time. We can sit on the deck, drink coffee, relax, and shoot the breeze. I live immediately to the right of the Rabbi's house.
