Zac had given his mom a kiss on the cheek, a strong handshake to his dad and said goodbye as they left him for his first night alone on campus. His roommate, Will wasn't due to move in for two more days so Zac had some time to set up and adjust. Going to college was always the plan, but Zac didn't expect to get into Alabama. His grades weren't terrible but they certainly weren't anything to write home about either. His unusually high SAT scores definitely helped him snag a spot in his dream school. While he was sacrificing getting to play baseball at a smaller school, he knew there were many benefits to outweigh that one nagging negative. Gray comforter, dark blue towels, and few photos of his high school friends adorned his newly decorated space. "God I hope this doesn't look too gay", he thought to himself. He knew that he was overthinking the setup... who would ever look at a boring gray comforter and think "gay"? But then again, when your biggest fear is having others find out who you really are, you are always on edge, second guessing every choice you make. Loud banging on the door forced Zac to stop the --is this too gay/trying too hard to be straight-- debate in his mind. He was thankful for an excuse to get out of his own mind. When he opened the door, he was greeted by the bubbliest person he'd ever encountered. "Hi! You must be Zac. Welcome to South Hall, I'm Kelly, your RA. I wanted to introduce myself and also let you know that we just found out your roommate isn't coming here anymore. Looks like you've got the room to yourself. That never happens for Freshman, you got really lucky." Nice to meet you Kelly, wow, that's amazing. It's nice to meet you. And in the blink of an eye she was gone, skipping down the hall back to her room. Zac took advantage of sleeping in, since it's a luxury he wouldn't have once classes started. Noon?! Jesus Christ, did he really sleep 12 hours? It might've been a first in his life. The initial shock wore off quickly once he realized there was no one there to scold him. That was certainly a change of pace for him. His parents weren't overbearing per se but they did keep tight tabs on him. And if they weren't keeping tabs on him, coach certainly was. Suddenly he was free of both, and starving. Zac threw on a baseball cap and headed to the dining hall for lunch. He was amazed walking through campus and just taking in the shear beauty of it all. He had always heard incredible things, and he'd seen pictures before, but nothing did it justice. BAM - just like that Zac slammed into the most attractive man he'd ever seen. "I'm s-s-so sorry" was all he could get out. Between oversleeping, taking in the campus and accidentally running into this adonis it was already proving to be a crazy day. "No worries man." After a few seconds Zac snapped back to reality, and in an effort to try and cover up his gawking at the adonis in front of him he began to ramble. "I was going to the dining hall and then I was trying to figure out how to get there since I'm new on campus and then I didn't see you" - he was interrupted by laughter. "You're good man. You said you're new?" "Yeah. I'm a first year, just moved in yesterday. I'm Zac." "Nice to meet you Zac, I'm Denver." Denver. Finally he had a name for this gorgeous creature. He had to have been 6'4, with hazel eyes, short cropped jet black hair and the tan of an athlete who spent all summer practicing outside. ****************** I'd love your feedback!
