Use the email above or find me mansambam.tumblr.com This is the first of 3 winter break chapters, this one is just Spence and Gervais. Winter break. Spence and Gervais "So we got married and this is our honeymoon." Spence's middle brother Fergus announces. "Thanks for the invite. Where are the parents?" Spence asks. "Not coming. They got a better offer." Spence's oldest brother Wentworth aka W replies. "Shit we could have saved on gifts." Spence says. "Hi, I'm Gervais." Gervais says cutting Spence off from his rant. "Hi Gervais I'm Maggie, Fergus new wife and this is Annabella W's wife with her little one Tommy." Maggie says smiling and shaking Gervais hand. "Shit sorry. I forget my manners around my family, I see them so seldom." Spence says with a grin. "I'll show you to your room. We put you in together so Tommy can have a room now the parents aren't coming, we made sure you're furthest away." Annabella says. "We expected to share, its fine with us." Gervais says. "Thanks AB. We're happy to take Tommy of your hands now and then but not every day." Spence says with no shame. "I wouldn't expect that at all but we would appreciate a couple of evenings to ourselves." AB says. "I am not going to want to party as much as Spence, I know we just met but I can do a couple of evenings." Gervais says. "Thanks, we're hoping for a few family evenings in. W works so much we don't see him and I start back at work when we get back. Spence we're so glad you're here I am so sorry your parents changed their minds. For you and for Tommy, we were hoping he's get a chance to bond with his grandparents." AB says. "They're shits. Though Gervais beats me in the shit parent stakes, hence he's here." Spence says clearly far more hurt than he wants to show. "You okay?" Gervais asks as they unpack. "No, at least your dad bothers to tell you he doesn't want to see you. Mine don't even bother to tell me directly just send a message. We could have gone back with Blue for the break." Spence says. "Hey, we both love to ski." Gervais says. "We do. We'll have fun. It's just a long time to be up here." Spence says. "Let's get some sleep so we can get an early start." Gervais says. "Thanks for coming. I feel like I forgot to say that. I couldn't have faced this alone." Spence says quietly. "No problem. Not like I had anywhere else to go. I'm insanely grateful you invited me." Gervais says. "So we're quits." Spence says. "Friends." Gervais says. The first few days Spence and Gervais ski as long as they can and then zonk out. The fresh air and exercise is a shock to the system for them both. They make an effort to help with the cooking but they're often half asleep before it's done. "Can you mind Tommy today? I've not seen snow yet" AB asks over breakfast. "Sure my legs are dead I need a rest day." Gervais says. "Oh I meant Spence." AB says embarrassed. "Honestly I help teach a kids yoga class, not that they're quite that young but I'm safe. Write out his routine and I'll manage I promise. Spence will go mad coupled up all day." Gervais says. "Let Gervais earn his keep. I'm meeting someone about watching a kids ski school class." Spence says. "Ooo adding a winter sport to your coaching is a good idea." Gervais says. "I'm not sure I'd ever have the time to learn but I'd love to see their techniques with kids, especially mentally. The fear and mental blocks must be similar to the gymnasts." Spence says. "You are always thinking about your career." Gervais says. "And evidently that means no time for his family." AB says huffily. "I've offered, it's not like you know Spence any better than you know me. I'm family to Spence more than any of you." Gervais says and clears the table. Spence jumps up to join him. "That's true you know. I'm closer to you 4 than my family." Spence says quietly. "I know. Me too. Well you know that." Gervais says. "I'll stay and look after the kid if Spence is too important." Fergus says. "I can keep you company, I really do need a rest." Gervais says. "Yet no one offered to keep me company all week." AB complains. "Well it's not our fault your husband is a shit." Maggie says walking in and AB walks straight out. "Wow Maggie." Spence says. "You made it clear you weren't the help when you got here and I understand why. W needs to pull his finger out and if he won't they could have brought a nanny with them. You need a break same as the rest of us." Maggie says. "You're my favorite sister in law by far." Spence says and heads off to get his gear. "So do you have a boyfriend?" Fergus asks once all the others have gone. "Just had a breakup." Gervais says. "That sucks." Fergus says. "Your wife is really nice. Why didn't you invite Spence to the wedding?" Gervais asks. "We didn't want to deal with the hassle of any family. Plus my parents were unlikely to come unless we did the big society do with doves and angels and unicorns." Fergus laughs. "Ahh unicorns. They would hold out for those. What is their problem with Spence?" Gervais asks. "I don't know. They've been supportive of him going to public school and didn't push him over college like they did with us two. But I suppose he sees that as them not caring rather than supporting his choices." Fergus says. "No he sees it as supportive. I'm the one who sees it as indifference." Gervais says. "Well that's it, they are indifferent. They generally forget he exists. He's not been in their life since he was 8. He has brought himself up, he's not perfect but I suspect he's the best of the three of us." Fergus says. "Why do you say that?" Gervais asks fascinated by the family dynamics. "He is brighter than us, we went to the fancy schools but he has real smarts. He has ambition and drive and makes time for Andy and has friends like you." Fergus says. "What does that mean?" Gervais asks. "Well you went to prep school but your dad is military. You're not of use socially or financially and it wouldn't occur to Spence to worry about those things when making friends. W and I were all about the right friends, with useful parents and well placed vacation homes." Fergus says. "And now you have Maggie." Gervais says. "I do and she's wonderful." Fergus says. That evening Gervais cooks a meal while Fergus entertains Tommy. It's been a fun day and Gervais feels ready to get back to the slopes. Spence had a great day he met up with 2 instructors a German called Freddie and a girl from Seattle called Lois, they were happy to have an extra pair of hands in class and not worried about insurance or Spence's lack of experience. Spence felt he was learning a lot and had a lot of fun. Once class was over he and the instructors took to the slopes and had a blast followed by a night of heavy drinking. He rolls into the room sometime around three trying to be quiet but waking Gervais anyway. "Have a good time?" Gervais asks. "So good. So drunk." Spence says diving on to the bed. The next 2 weeks follows the same pattern, Spence hangs out with his new friends and Gervais hangs out with Fergus. They take care of Tommy a couple of times and ski together, they're at about the same level. Some days Maggie joins them but she prefers to drive down to hiking trails than ski. Gervais joins her a couple of times and tells her all about Blue and how much he loves hiking. "I was in love with my roommate in college. She was one of those blondes with legs for days who loved her horse more than people and saw men as a nuisance until she needed a drink." Maggie says one day as they are walking a trail. "Did she like you back?" Gervais asks. "Yes, but we are both from families that wouldn't accept it. Hers more so than mine I think. We're both married now and I've not seen her for 2 years." Maggie says sadly. "You miss her." Gervais says. "Yeah I do." Maggie says. "You don't come across as someone from a family that would care who you married." Gervais says. "Oh I know, I always feel like I was switched at birth. But my family are old school wasps who are happy to have gay friends and divorced friends and black friends but you can't marry them." Maggie says sadly. "My dad wouldn't care if I lived or died. Earlier this year I thought he might be coming round. I was feeling confident and being more outgoing and for a couple of brief phone calls I thought maybe we could rebuild and have a relationship but then he cancelled plans, stopped taking my calls and doubled my allowance." Gervais says. "So you and Spence are pretty similar." Maggie says. "His parents cared enough to let him leave prep school. My dad didn't even call the first time I was in hospital." Gervais says. "Shit I'm sorry. If anything happened to Spence now I'm not sure they'd come. I sometimes think they are getting dementia and have forgotten he exists." Maggie says. "Sounds like they've forgotten their grandchild too." Gervais says. "Yeah, do cut AB some slack, when we used to meet to, oh fuck it sounds so cold, discuss who would see Spence she was never keen for her and W to do their share. Now she's a mother she feels so guilty about Spence being abandoned. She's not usually so rude." Maggie says. "You and Fergus are so nice. It's hard to believe W is related to them." Gervais says. "Fergus and W are the best of friends, always have been. W is working a lot this trip, he was supposed to be off for a week but has been in the business center every day. That is of course contributing to AB's bad mood." Maggie says. "I'd no idea what Spence was getting me in to." Gervais laughs. "He for sure owes you." Maggie laughs. Gervais ponders the conversation for a long time. Clearly Fergus and W don't have it easy all the time but their lives are pretty perfect. No doubt they'll have a few more kids and Spence will cease to be part of the family at all. AB clearly sees being with Spence as an obligation and she expects payment in childcare. She might feel guilty about the feelings but she has the feelings. "Hey stranger. Can I come out with you guys tonight?" Gervais asks Spence when he gets in. "Of course. There's a party in the staff block as usual." Spence says with a grin. "I've barely seen you in days." Gervais says good naturedly, not an accusation. "Yeah, I only came back to change as I spilled my lunch all down me. Sorry if I've left my share of the chores to you." Spence says. "It is fine, you know that I'm happy to cook and take care of the kid." Gervais says. "I want to see Tommy more but I feel like AB hates me and so I don't want to get too attached." Spence says. "I understand. So you're getting wasted every night to forget your family issues?" Gervais asks. "Sorry I'm not being much of a friend right now." Spence says. "Are you kidding I'm having a good time. Not my family issues is it? I can't manage going out every night, you know that. I'm loving having a lot of down time and Fergus and Maggie are good company." Gervais says. "Yeah I keep thinking you're Andy who would be going nuts." Spence says. "You may have noticed the lack of sex." Gervais laughs. "I did notice. What's with that?" Spence laughs and the two head out for the night. Gervais and Spence might not have been doing anything but it is pretty clear to Gervais that Spence and Freddie have. For a minute he judges his friend then resets his thoughts, if Freddie is what Spence needs to get through this vacation who is he to judge? Andy will be okay with it if he finds out. Gervais is welcomed into the party and stays until dawn having fun. It's the first time he has been able to party without having to worry about Jesse and he's finding it freeing. His own anxiety is staying at bay and he feels good. He even kisses a few boys. A couple of nights later when Spence comes in in the early hours Gervais laughs at him trying to undress. "Look don't feel you need to come back for appearances. If you want to stay over with Freddie do. It's not my business." Gervais says. "No way, he could get fired if he's caught with me in his bed. And this way I get less grief from my brothers." Spence says. "As long as you're being careful." Gervais says. "I am. I know it looks bad but I will tell Andy when we get back. Worst case I lose him for a bit and we share a room for a while." Spence says. "I'm certain he won't end things over it. He will be crazy jealous and might do something in revenge but he won't end it." Gervais says. "I know, it's been weird not even talking to him. I went to the computer room but he wasn't online." Spence says. "How did it start with Freddie?" Gervais asks. "Such a gay cliché, in the steam room. He put his hand on my thigh and I moved it higher. It's been awesome. I've never had a fuck buddy before. I love his big dick." Spence says. "Wow." Gervais grins in response. "There is loads for you for the taking too." Spence says. "I've been detoxing from Jesse and not really ready for anything else yet." Gervais says. "It's so weird I forgot you even dated him. Let alone just had a breakup." Spence laughs. "Well I did and I did." Gervais says. "Been a bit of a Blue detox too." Spence says. "I think about him a lot. I really do. I hope he and Austin sort things out when we get back because if he's not having a good time it will be really hard to just sit back." Gervais says. "He tried to when you and Jesse were not in the best place. He gave you loads of space at the beginning." Spence says. "I know, total hypocrite here. I'll be his this summer." Gervais says. "Yeah I expect you will. Can you wait until then?" Spence asks. "Do you think it'll be a big anticlimax when it happens?" Gervais asks. "No, unless his issue with Austin is his fault. The way he can anticipate everything for you is really something to watch, that in bed will amazing." Spence says. "I think so too. Man it's so wrong but I really hope he and Austin break up this break. So no I don't know if I can wait. I just want him." Gervais says. "I'm really glad to hear it." Spence says with a smile. Gervais dreams of Blue more vividly than he has for a while. Just doing normal things together like yoga, playing pool and talking. He wakes feeling all warm and happy. Secure. AB, W and Tommy leave the next day, W is working all the time anyway and Tommy has not taken to the snow at all and is getting naughtier during the day. It is a relief when they are gone, though Fergus is a little down that he and his brother didn't get much time together. Fergus and Gervais continue to hang out most days skiing together and cooking. Maggie is off doing her own thing. On the last night Spence and Gervais go out to give the couple some alone time and to enjoy their last chance to party. They both decide to call it a night a little earlier than usual, aware they have a flight to catch the next morning. When they get back to the cabin Fergus is in the hot tub so they join him for one last soak. "Happy to be going back to school?" Fergus asks. "I'm ready to see Andy again, it feels like forever." Spence says. "I want to see everyone too." Gervais says. "W said you quit wrestling despite winning that big meet." Fergus says. "I've not decided. I'd love to coach but I'm interested in other sports too, I'll be volunteering all over and so maybe not have the time to put in to training. Robin quit." Spence says. "It's a shame, you are good at it. You're the best sportsman of the three of us but Dad rarely went to a meet. He didn't miss any of ours. Maybe the lack of pressure from him let you thrive." Fergus says. "Do you think maybe I'm not Dad's kid?" Spence asks, he's a little drunk and all inhibitions are gone. "No you look like him the most and I remember Mom being pregnant so don't get ideas about that." Fergus laughs. "Hey some of us have to create our own families." Gervais says. "I can't believe you two keep finding each other. At prep and now at college in the same suite. Do you think maybe you should be together?" Fergus asks. "Nah we're great as friends." Spence says. "Yeah." Gervais says not insulted at all. They are good friends. "I'm going to bed, feeling a bit low and want to save my energy for Andy. I hope you have earplugs ready for the next few days." Spence laughs. "Dammit I can't even escape to Jesse's room." Gervais laughs. "Oh I'm sure he'd be happy to take one from his ex." Spence laughs and climbs out. "I've been wanting you naked and alone for weeks." Fergus says stroking Gervais arm. Gervais is floored. "You're married." Gervais says. "And longing for you." Fergus says letting his hand drop to Gervais thigh and squeezing. "But I like Maggie." Gervais says. "So do I, but she doesn't want to sleep with me. Sometimes I just crave cock." Fergus says. "Do you know what year it is? How can you support Spence and be in the closet yourself?" Gervais asks. "I'm bi and so Is Maggie, her family know about some of her dalliances and paid me to marry her in a shotgun wedding. Later we'll pretend we lost the baby or it'll go unmentioned." Fergus says. "But what if you meet someone you love?" Gervais asks. "I don't believe in fairytales." Fergus says. "That's clear given you sold yourself." Gervais says. "I'm not driven like W and I don't have Spence's ambition, work was killing me and Maggie was in the same position. We're having a six month honeymoon away from prying eyes and then we'll be the perfect society couple." Fergus says. "Sounds toxic." Gervais says. "No we'll do a ton of charity work and basically be social for a living. Maggie's trust fund dwarfs mine, we don't need to work." Fergus says. "Does Spence have a trust? I know his allowance is generous and he doesn't need to worry about school." Gervais says. "He gets it when he's 25. Luckily he was born before our grandfather died." Fergus says. "Good. I'd hate to think he didn't even get the money." Gervais says. "So, how about giving me that nice dick of yours." Fergus says playing with Gervais cock under the water. "You're touching my cock and we haven't even kissed. What kind of guys have you fucked? Other closet cases?" Gervais asks. "Something like that." Fergus says. "I'm not a sex toy. If that is what you want pay for someone to give you what you need." Gervais says. "I like you. We've had a great time hanging out. I don't want a sex toy." Fergus says lifting Gervais chin and kissing him. Gervais is scared and delighted and kisses back. He soon has Fergus bent over the hot tub edge and is pounding him for all his worth. "That was the best ever." Fergus says kissing Gervais after.
