When You Least Expect By Josh Blake Chapter 19 "What do you mean you left dad?" I asked. "You two were getting along so well at the wedding, and he acted like he was starting to accept things with Braden and me." Braden and I had just arrived home to find my mom sitting on my front porch. "Well, he got around some of his drinking buddies, and they started giving him a hard time about his `queer' son. Sorry baby, that's the word he used." "I'm not fazed by that anymore, mom. I'm just disappointed. So, what did he say? Come on, let's go in and talk about this. It's getting cool out here." We all walked in the house. Braden went into the kitchen to fix mom a snack since she had not eaten anything. She didn't know we would be so late getting home and had been waiting for several hours. "Like I said, his drinking buddies started giving him a hard time. Telling him things like he should disown you and how it was an abomination what you were doing. He came in and told me that he couldn't have anything to do with you because of what his buddies would think." I sat silently, not saying anything. Braden had returned with a sandwich for mom, then he sat beside me. I instinctively put my arm around him. Mom smiled. "So, what else happened, Mrs. Patterson?" Braden asked. "Nothing, really. I just stood up and told him I'd had enough. I told him that I was going to be a grandmother to this child who is about to be born, and that if he didn't want any part of it, that I'd just go live my life happily without him." "Mom, you're being very calm about all of this. Are you sure you're okay?" "Josh, your father has controlled me for so long. I think something in me finally just snapped. I guess it was the idea that I'm about to be a grandmother and he was trying to get in the way of that. I feel free now." "Mom, you really don't have the income to live on your own. Of course, you can stay here. I just want to make sure that you're really okay with the idea that Braden and I are married, and we behave like a married couple." "Oh, thank you honey, but I can't impose on you. I'll go up to your aunt's house tomorrow. She said I can come stay with her. I will stay the night, though, if that's okay. Your aunt is going to help me get my stuff out of the house tomorrow. Your father can have it. I don't want it." "Of course, you can stay the night, Mrs. Patterson. You're welcome here anytime," Braden said. We went back out to the car and brought in mom's overnight bag she had packed. Since it was already so late and I had to get back to work the next day, we didn't stay up very late. We got mom settled in the guest room, and then we all turned in. Braden and I didn't have sex that night. It just felt strange having sex with my mother in the house. Even though it was our home, and she was our guest, it still felt strange. "Josh, can we talk about your mom for a minute?" Braden said. "Yeah, I'm sorry I just up and offered for her to stay here without talking to you first. That was wrong of me. This is your house, too." I said. "No, that's what I want to talk to you about. Having your mom here could be the answer to a lot of our problems. When the baby comes, it's going to flip our lives upside down. You're working full time, I'm in school, and paying for daycare will cost a fortune. Why don't we let your mom move in and help us take care of the baby? Do you think she would?" "I know she would. But living with my mom again. I just don't know." "It's not living with your mom. It's your mom living with us. It's our house, and she is comfortable with us being together. If she wasn't, do you think she ever would have left your dad?" "I guess you're right. Let's discuss it in the morning. I'm exhausted." "Me too, babe. I love you," Braden said, kissing me on the lips. "I love you too, babe," I said. The next thing I remember was waking up to the smell of coffee and bacon. I noticed Braden was still asleep next to me. I glanced at the clock. 4:30. Half an hour before I normally woke up. I got up and walked into the kitchen. "Mom? What are you doing up so early?" "I wanted to make my boys breakfast before you go off to work. Remember when I used to do this before you went to school?" "I do." I walked over and hugged her. "But you didn't have to do this. I usually just drink a protein shake on my drive in." "I wanted to. Who knows when I'll get to do this again," she said. "Why is everyone up so early?" a groggy Braden asked as he walked into the kitchen. Out of habit, he walked over and kissed me on the lips. "Mom wanted to make us breakfast," I said. "Which is actually good. It'll give us a chance to talk." "What about, dear?" mom asked. "About you living with us. Braden and I talked it over, and..." "Dear, I already told you, I'm not going to be that mom who imposes on her son. I'll stay with your aunt. I have a little bit in savings, and before long, I can get a place of my own." "That's the thing, mom. You're not imposing. It would actually help us out a lot. After Jack is born, we're going to need all the help we can get taking care of him. If you're here, you can keep him during the day while we are at work and school. That is, if you're willing to." "Willing to? I'd be happy to! If you're sure you don't mind, I'll do it! Wait, did you say Jack?" "Oh crap, I wasn't supposed to say that yet." I looked over at Braden. He just shrugged. "Might as well tell her now," Braden laughed. "We decided on a name for the baby. At least I guess we have. We weren't going to tell anyone until we were completely sure, but I think we are sure now. His name will be Jackson Elliot Patterson, or Jack for short." "I love that!" Mom said. "But Braden, are you okay with the last name being Patterson?" "Oh, yes. As a matter of fact, I'm in the process of legally changing my last name to Patterson as well. It's just easier that way. We talked about hyphenating or just keeping our own names, but then we decided that with Jack and any other kids who follow, it'll just be easier to have one last name. I talked to my family about it, and they understand." "So why Patterson and not your last name?" "Josh has already established his name in his career. Changing his name would be a bigger deal than changing mine. I'm not established in anything yet, really, so it's really just a matter of logistics," Braden said. "Well, it sounds like you boys have thought of everything. But, with Jack coming soon, where is everyone going to sleep?" "We'll just turn the guest room into your room, and then we'll move the office into the den. The office will become Jack's room," I said. "It's sure going to be more crowded in this house now!" Mom said "Well, we are talking about possibly moving closer to Josh's school," Braden said. "Well, I'm talking about it. Josh hasn't joined in yet. If we move, we'll get a bigger house." We continued working out the logistics of how everything would work once the baby came. I have to admit, the thought of moving closer to work and shortening my commute was appealing. We finished breakfast, and I went on to get ready for work. "Your mom told me to come keep you company in the shower," a naked Braden said to me as he joined me. "I am almost certain she did not say that," I replied. "Well, she didn't use those words exactly. But I knew what she meant when she said, `I'm going to go back to bed for a little bit,' after she loaded the dishwasher." "You're such a liar," I laughed. "But since you're here, wash my back?" "Only if you do mine," he said. There was no sex, mainly because we didn't have time. But we had both learned something about ourselves over the last several weeks. The intimacy involved in little things, like washing each other's back, or brushing a stray hair out of the other person's face, were almost as intimate as making love. We had realized that we didn't have to be fucking in order to be intimate. Relationships are about more than just sex. Work was uneventful. I walked the halls, visited classrooms, did paperwork, met with parents, and all the usual events. I continued to talk to students in the cafeteria, which was different than in previous years because of social distancing protocols. We could only have a certain number of students in there at one time, so we rotated out the classes that ate in the cafeteria each day, with some having lunch in their classrooms. I especially enjoyed the days where I saw Sabrina, Trey, and Sam in the cafeteria. Since his schedule had changed, Lucas had joined the group as well. I could tell that he and Trey were being careful not to be exposed as anything more than friends. Everyone in that group seemed wise beyond their 15 or 16 years, and if I were their age, I would certainly have been drawn to them as a friend. Hell, I halfway consider them some type of friend now. But they all understood the boundaries with me as their principal. I think they enjoyed having an adult who cared about them enough to sit and talk to them about things going on in their lives. Braden and I had been invited to have dinner with David and Robert at David's house Friday night. Braden actually rode to work with me that morning and spent the day clocking observation hours for his college class. As I stood in the hall, I had to chuckle at hearing the girls talking about the `cute guy in math class.' Most of them had no clue who he was. Except for, of course, Sabrina, Sam, Trey, and Lucas. "O M G. Mr. P. He is even more gorgeous in person. You better lock him up because imma steal him," Sabrina said as she walked up on me in the hall. "Sabrina, what in the world are you talking about?" I asked, playing dumb. "Mr. P, you know what I'm talking about. Braden. He's in our math class today!" "Oh, you don't say?" I laughed. "Don't act like you don't know. I know he rode with you today. I saw him get out of your car." "Well, I'm not exactly announcing it to the world, Sabrina," I said. "Don't worry, no one really knows who he is for real. Most of the girls can't pay attention in class though because there's this hottie with a rockin' body sitting right there in the room. Even with a mask on you can tell he's hot. He wouldn't really talk to us, though." In the class Braden was taking, he was supposed to simply observe the classroom. He was not supposed to have any interaction with the students, and none with the teacher during the actual class. "That's because he's not supposed to, Sabrina. He's just here observing because he's working on becoming a teacher." "Oh, that makes sense. Can he be our teacher? He's way hotter than Mr. Dunleavy." "I'm sure Mr. Dunleavy will be glad to know that you care so much about his appearance. But no, he can't be your teacher. As long as I'm here, he can't work here. I can't be his immediate supervisor. Now, hurry up and get to class before you get locked out and get detention again." "Pssshhh. Mrs. McDonald be looking for excuses to give me detention." "Well, don't give here any. If I don't see you again, have a good weekend, Sabrina." "You too, Mr. P." I finished up the day and waved the buses off, then walked back to my office to find Braden sitting in one of my chairs waiting for me. "How was your day?" I asked, ruffling his hair as I walked by. "Hey, just because I'm sitting in front of your desk doesn't mean you can ruffle my hair like one of your students," he laughed. "But my day was good. I sat and watched Mr. Dunleavy teach and made notes about what I saw, what worked, and what I thought I could do differently." "What do you think you could do differently?" I asked. "He is a really good teacher. He knows his math and he knows how to teach it. But there was no personal connection with the students. It was very clinical," he said. "Yeah, that's Gene. He's a `by the book' teacher. And he doesn't get to know his kids that well. But his test scores are always good, and he gets the job done." "Are you about ready to get out of here?" Braden asked. "I will be shortly. I just have to send a couple emails and then I'll be good. The football team is travelling tonight, so I just have to make sure Devin is all set to go with them." I called Devin to my office, and he confirmed that he was all set for the football game. We had some small talk for a few minutes, then he headed out. David had given me his address. I knew he lived in one of the nicer areas of the city, but I was not prepared for the house I saw when we pulled into the long, winding driveway. "Holy shit. Will you look at this?" I said as we pulled in. "I guess when you're the superintendent this is the kind of house you can afford," Braden said. We parked the car, walked up to the door, and rang the doorbell. After a short time, David opened the door. He was dressed in jeans and a nice polo shirt. I wasn't used to seeing him dressed down. "Come in, come in!" David said. "Robert is out back on the patio, come on out and join him. I'm just finishing up dinner. I'm about to put the meatloaf in the oven, and it'll be ready in about an hour. I hope that's not too long to wait." "Not at all," I said as we walked through the gorgeous formal living room, into the kitchen, and out the back door to the patio. It was starting to cool off outside, but David had an outdoor propane heater than was on and provided just enough heat to make the covered patio area comfortable. Braden and I sat and engaged in conversation with Robert until David appeared out the door. "Alright, I think that is it for now. What is Robert boring you with?" David asked, taking a seat in the swing next to Robert. I took notice when Robert put his arm around David. You could tell they were still new to being open around other people, even those they knew they could trust. "Actually, he was just telling us about all the fishing he does down at the lake," Braden said. "Yes, and he asked us to join him one day soon," I added. "Ah yes, the lake. His beloved lake," David said, rolling his eyes. "I never heard you complain about it when we spent weekends down there. You always seemed to especially enjoy my tackle," Robert said. We all laughed. "Well, that is true," David said. "It really is a very nice place. We've been doing some remodeling down there. I'm going to retire soon, and then the goal is for us to move down there full time." "I hope you're not retiring too soon," I said. "No, it'll be at least three more years. But we are making plans now. This house is just entirely too large for even the two of us. I've talked it over with the kids, and they are all fine with me selling it." "I already sold my house," Robert said. "I've been living at the lake for the last several months, and it is simply breathtaking." "Yes, it is," David said. "The house down there is smaller. It's two bedrooms and one bathroom. No room for company, really, but we don't entertain that often at our age." "That is definitely a step down from this house," I said. "Yes, but this house feels so empty at times. I just rattle around in this big old thing." "How many bedrooms are here?" I asked. "Did you not give them a tour, David?" Robert asked. "Sometimes you are just so..." "I forgot, dear. But yes, you simply must take the tour. Come on!" We all got up and walked into the house. We started the tour with the formal living room and the kitchen, since we had already seen those areas. The kitchen was a chef's kitchen with a huge walk-in pantry. "Our moms could seriously throw down some grub in here, couldn't they?" Braden remarked. "Oh, they absolutely could!" I said. Also on the main floor were a den, a formal dining room, a half bath, a bedroom with its own bathroom, and a study. We then headed upstairs where we found the master bedroom with a huge, spa-like bathroom and his and hers closets, or I guess you could say his and his. There was a huge soaking tub and a huge, walk in tile shower with a glass surround. I counted four shower heads! The master bedroom itself was huge and had a small office nook as well. Also on this floor were four additional bedrooms, making for a total of six bedrooms! Each of the other four bedrooms shared a jack and jill bathroom between them. The laundry was also on the top floor. David said his wife had that added because she hated carrying laundry up and down stairs. But we weren't finished with the tour yet. David took us down to the finished basement where there was a game room, another den with a fireplace, access to the three-car garage, and another full bathroom and what could be another bedroom, if necessary. We ended the tour and walked back up the stairs to hear a timer going off. "That means dinner is ready! Everyone to the dining room!" David announced. David had created a fabulous spread. There was meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, and yeast rolls. The food was exquisite. I am usually not a big fan of meatloaf, but this one was superb. David had brought up a good bottle of red wine from the wine cellar, which was also part of the basement. "David, I had no idea you could cook like this," I said. "I don't think I've had a meal like this since my grandmother was alive. It's pure comfort food." "I know I haven't had a meal like this, and my mom is a great cook," Braden added. "Thanks guys. This was actually my mother's meatloaf recipe. I really enjoy cooking, I just rarely have time to cook these days, or don't have enough people over to actually cook. If it's just me, I'm known to just throw a Lean Cuisine in the microwave and call it a night." "You have two daughters, right?" I asked. "Yes, but they've moved away and have their own lives to live. Since my wife passed way, this big house can get quite lonely." "Dear, you're not alone that much anymore. We are together most of the time," Robert said. "Yes, that's true for the last several months. We still haven't let our children know about the whole situation." "When are you going to do that? I thought you talked to them about selling the house," I said. "Oh, I did tell them I wanted to downsize. They are fine with that. They just don't know I'm moving in with Uncle Robert," David said. "Uncle Robert?" Braden asked. "That's his daughters' nickname for me. Uncle Robert," Robert said. "Our families were so close while the kids were growing up, I became Uncle Robert, and he became Uncle David." "I like that. Uncle Robert and Uncle David. Maybe we'll get to be Uncle Josh and Uncle Braden someday," Braden said. "Start talking to your brother about having some kids," I laughed. Braden told David and Robert all about his family and how close they are. I filled them in on the latest happenings with my dad and the news about my mom moving in. "I know you're happy your mom is moving in," David said, "But isn't your house getting a little cramped?" "Well, it will be for sure once the baby his here, but we'll manage." I said. "Braden is on me to move closer to here for work and to get a larger house, but I just don't know. The housing market is just so hot right now, you can't get a good deal on anything, and until Braden graduates and starts teaching, we're living on my income alone. Plus, Braden will have to find a job. And who knows about that." "As long as I'm superintendent, he will have a job," David said. "I'll hire you at any school you want." "That's good to know. Thank you," Braden said. "I just started observation hours, so I don't even have any idea yet where I want to work. I guess I have two years to figure it out," he said. "Well, don't you worry about it. I plan to be around at least that much longer. I'll get you in." "Josh, do you see any chance of patching things up with your dad?" Robert asked. "I don't know, to be honest. I would like to, but I also don't want my son and any other children who come along to have to be involved in any kind of toxic relationships. If he can't accept us for the married couple that we are, then I'm fine with just leaving things as they are. I can't fix it. Only he can fix it. We've never been that close, anyway." "My dad flipped his shit when he first found out I was gay," Braden said. "But we figured out really quickly that one, he had been drinking a lot, and two, he was afraid of what my life would be like because of a terrible tragedy with his brother who was gay." "Let's continue this conversation in the den," David said. "We'll have our coffee and dessert there. Robert baked a pound cake. Hopefully we won't die from eating it." "I'll have you know I bake a delicious pound cake. It was my wife's recipe," Robert said. "Yes, he really does know his way around baking," David said. We moved to the den and had coffee and what turned out to be one of the best pound cakes I had ever had. As the night wore on, we learned more about Robert's family. We learned that he had a son and a daughter, and five grandchildren. We learned that David had three grandchildren. All their grandchildren ranged from as young as two years old up to sixteen years old. It was so nice to just get to be ourselves with another gay couple. Other than Devin and Stephen, David and Robert were our only gay friends. "I hope you guys brought an overnight bag. I don't want you driving so far home so late," David said. "And as you saw, I have more than enough room." "We will gladly take you up on that offer," I said. "Toss me the keys, babe, and I'll go grab our bags," Braden said. I handed him the keys and he went out to the car. "You sure found a good one, Josh," David said. "I wish I could have found happiness as soon as you did. But it's all okay. I found it just the same." He patted Robert on the knee. I smiled. "Yes, I found one of the good ones. But so did the two of you. I'm just happy that we all came to be friends." We heard Braden coming back in with our bags. "You two can have the downstairs bedroom," David said. "Don't worry about cleaning up after yourselves or changing the sheets in the morning. The cleaning lady comes on Monday and she can handle it. And you can't hear anything upstairs that happens down here, and vice versa. So, feel free to be as loud as you want to be. I'm sure Robert and I will be loud." "Oh David!" Robert exclaimed. "They don't want to picture our two old bodies rolling around in the bed. But I wouldn't mind picturing the two of them rolling around in bed." "I don't know which one of you is worse," I laughed. We were all laughing and having a great time. The next thing we knew it was after 10:00 p.m. David announced that he and Robert were going to bed. "Feel free to stay up as late as you want to," David said. "You can sit out here and watch TV, or there's one in the bedroom you can watch as well." "We're pretty tired, too." Braden said. "I think we'll probably be asleep soon." "We'll have breakfast around 8," Robert said. "I'm making pancakes." "You don't want to miss Robert's pancakes. They are to die for," David said. "We wouldn't dream of missing it," I said. We all said our good nights, and David and Robert headed upstairs while Braden and I headed to the downstairs guest room. Braden and I did end up making love before we went to sleep. It ended up being one of the times that Braden was on top and I was on bottom. We started out in the shower. The downstairs bathroom wasn't as spa-like as the master bath, but it had a great walk-in shower. We started kissing and feeling up each other in the shower. I loved rubbing my hands over Braden's torso. After his accident, he had lost some of his definition, but he had quickly worked to gain it back. I loved the feel of his muscles and how smooth his skin was. I was never in as good of shape as Braden was. He purred like a kitten when I flicked his nipples with my thumbs. "Keep doing that and you're going to have me eating from the palm of your hand," he said. "That's kind of my point," I laughed. "Let's take this to the bedroom," he said. We shut off the water and dried off. We didn't bother putting on any clothes since they'd just be coming right back off. "I want to eat your ass," Braden said. "I've been craving it a lot the last couple days." "Well, come get it," I said. I was on my back, so I lifted my legs and held them back with my hands behind my knees. Braden didn't need to be told twice. Before I knew it, he had his face buried in my freshly washed ass. It had been a while since I had been rimmed. I loved rimming Braden, but he didn't rim me quite as often as I did him. It just wasn't one of his most preferred activities, but being rimmed wasn't one of mine, so it was fine. I had forgotten, though, just how good it felt. I was moaning with pleasure in no time. Braden continued to work my hole with his tongue. He was really getting in there good. He was really enjoying himself. I could feel his tongue trying to push its way into my hole. The next thing I knew, he was working a finger up inside me. "There's some lube in my bag," I said. "Grab it." Braden grabbed the lube, then quickly returned to the bed. He lubed up his finger and my hole, then went back to finger fucking me. After a few minutes, he had managed to work two, then three fingers into my hole. He was rubbing my prostate, causing me to leak precum like crazy. "Babe, I need you to fuck me," I said. "That's what I was waiting to hear," he said, almost in a whisper. I looked down to see him stroking his hard cock, pulling back the foreskin to reveal the deep pink head. "Just go easy," I said. "You know I don't do this that often." "Don't worry, babe. This is going to be great for both of us," he said. I felt his cock against my hole, then I felt him start to push in. There was some pain, because I hadn't been fucked in at least a week. I remembered to push out as he pushed in, and his head popped inside. Like a baseball in a glove, his cock was at home in my ass. The pain quickly subsided and was replaced with pleasure. With his cock still inside me, Braden leaned down and kissed my lips. I parted my lips to allow his tongue inside my mouth. He continued to make love to me, pulling his cock almost all the way out and then slowly pushing it back in. We were both moaning with pleasure. His cock was hitting my prostate, and I was still leaking copious amounts of precum. I was stroking my cock in time with his fucking. Eventually, I felt my orgasm building. "Babe, I'm close!" I said. I started stroking my cock faster. "So am I!" Let's see if we can cum at the same time," he said. Braden started fucking me harder and faster to match my stroking. "I'm about to blow!" I yelled. "Here it comes!" Cum started to jet out of my cock and into the air. The first shot hit Braden just below the nose on his lips. He licked it off. My orgasm pushed him over the edge at roughly the same time. As he yelled out in pleasure, I felt my insides being coated with Braden's thick cum. I felt shot after shot being deposited deep into my rectum. Finally, both of our orgasms subsided, and he collapsed on top of me. We kissed and basked in the afterglow of our love making. "We need to shower again," I said. We quickly washed off all of my cum, and I tried to drain as much of Braden's cum from my ass as possible. Then we dried off and got back in bed and cuddled up together. After only a couple minutes, I could tell Braden was asleep. I was soon out as well. I awoke the next morning to the smell of bacon frying. I looked at my phone to see that it was 7:30. "Babe, wake up, we're going to miss Robert's pancakes!" I said. Braden groaned, but got up and followed me to the bathroom. We brushed our teeth and put on some sweats to go eat breakfast. The pancakes were every bit as good as David had described. We all ate our fill. "If I ate with y'all very often I'd completely lose my figure," Braden joked. "Well, we don't eat like this all the time," Robert said. "It's just nice to cook for people when we get the chance." We enjoyed conversation around the breakfast table. Braden and I insisted on at least loading the dishwasher before we left. We thanked David and Robert for their hospitality and promised to have them over to our place soon. David said he'd love to have us back over, and said he'd like to get to know Devin and Stephen better as well. He knew who Devin was, but had never really got to know him personally. We had a great time with our friends, but we were ready to head home. We said our goodbyes, then got on the road to head home. "That really was a beautiful house," Braden said. "I wish we could buy it." "Wishing is all we can do," I said. "There's no way we can afford that." "How much do you think a house like that would run?" Braden asked. "In that neighborhood, at least half a million. Probably more," I said. "Shiiiitttt. Yeah, we can't swing that." Unbeknownst to us, David and Robert were currently having a very similar conversation. "You know, Robert, it just doesn't make sense that Josh is driving so far every day for work, their house is about to be packed out, and I'm rattling around in this big old place by myself, or with you when you're here." "Well, you are going to sell the place. Maybe they'd be interested," Robert said. "What did the real estate agent say you could get out of it?" "She said in this market, she would list it for $629,900, and probably get at least $600,000. Which blows my mind. When we bought this house back in the early 80s, we only paid around $200,000. That was a huge price back then, though. But we had inheritance money to spend, so we went all out. There's no way Josh and Braden could afford this kind of payment. But I really want them to have it. It would make it easier to leave if I knew I had someone looking after it the way I did." "What are you saying exactly, dear?" Robert asked. "I don't know. I'm just talking. It's crazy anyway. They probably don't even want a house this big." "You never know unless you ask," Robert said. The next chapter in this series will be published soon!
