Chapter 18 Continuing in 2015 Kevin That Wednesday on which I would be taking Cody out for our dinner date came in the form of a sunny day in the beginning, but began getting cloudy in the afternoon. I didn't mind since I really enjoyed the cold and dark weather. Cody liked it, but enjoyed the sun more. So as I put on some cologne, the snow was falling fast as I watched it through my bedroom window for a moment. After making sure my hair was in place, I put on my shoes and walked in to the living room and called Cody. He answered and I let him know that I was getting ready to leave the house. He said he was ready and I knew he was definitely excited for our dinner. After finishing the call, I sat down and waited for my dad and mom to get the keys and get the car warmed up. Once in the car, I sat in the back seat and we took off. My dad was driving and my mom was sitting relaxing in the passenger seat. I watched them for a moment, then spoke. "So what are you guys doing for dinner tonight?" I asked. "We're just going to have something at the house," my mom replied. "Yeah, we have the rest of the clam chowder from last night that we can have," my dad added. "Sounds good," I answered. "It sounds like you and Cody are really excited about tonight," my mom said. I knew where she was going with this. I hadn't talked to her and my dad about Cody and I yet, but planned on doing so very soon. I also was going to talk to Cody's mom as well. I figured that they all knew and though we hadn't kissed in front of either his mom or my parents, the looks and hugs alone probably gave us away all the same. "Yeah definitely!" I said and smiled. "You and Cody seem to be getting closer and closer," she continued. "I've noticed that," my dad interjected. "I'd say we definitely have been," I replied. "So do you love him?" my mom asked turning to look at me. I smiled and looked back. "You continue to go for it fearlessly," I said and laughed. "Yeah, I still do," she said and smiled back. "I love him more than anything," I said. "I was going to sit down with you guys this weekend and talk to you about him and I anyway." "I figured you would," my dad said. "We still noticed that there's more than just friendship between the two of you though." "It wasn't hard to miss," my mom added. "I know you guys wanted to see what might happen between you guys and that you guys wanted to take your time and be sure before telling us and his mom about the two of you." "You two make a nice couple," my dad said. "Thanks," I replied. "So to answer your question, yes. I am in love with Cody. I love his personality, his love for others, his smile, his kindness, his caring and just everything about him. I love his looks as well, but it's who he is first, that I love and his looks come in second." "I'm proud of you Kevin," my mom said. "I really am. You really have been treating Cody well. You could go for a guy with good looks and not much in the way of brains or compassion, but you've looked at him for who he is. You're really turning out to be the kind and loving young man we hoped you'd become." "Your mom's right," my dad added. "You're a wonderful young man so far and you're getting better every day. You'll continue to do so as long as you keep living your life in the ways we've taught you." "Thanks," I said as I wiped a couple of tears from my cheek. What they said brought out my emotions and this time, they were tears of joy. "I'll continue to live as I've been doing and I won't let you guys or myself down." We reached the restaurant and the plan was that I'd meet Cody there and they'd come back and pick me up and Cody's mom would do the same. Once out of the car, we went in and the waiter seated me and after hugging and kissing my parents goodbye, I sat and waited for my love. I didn't have long to wait though. When I looked up, I saw him and his mom walking through the doors and up to the counter. They were guided to my table and after standing and hugging Melissa and then Cody, he and I sat and once he and his mom shared a hug and kiss goodbye, she left and it was just the two of us. "You look wonderful this evening," I said and leaned over and kissed him. He was sitting on the outside part of the booth in which I was sitting so I was on the inside which was fine with me. He kissed me back and we looked in to one another's eyes. "You look amazing as well," he replied. That night, I selected a roil-blue shirt with a pair of tan-cacky dress pants and Cody was wearing a Kelly-green dress shirt and black dress pants and he looked amazing in it. We sat there continuing to look in to one another's eyes, then I saw the waiter out of the corner of my eye stepping closer to the table. I turned my attention to him and waited for him to speak. "What can I get you guys to drink?" he asked. "I'll have a Coke," I said. "I'll have the same," Cody added. "Okay," the waiter said. "I'll be back with that shortly." We thanked him and he was gone. I kissed my love once more, then we sat there holding hands. Luckily, this was a restaurant where many gay couples hung out so we could be more expressive with our love in that way. I had looked up online a couple of nights ago to see which restaurants were more gay-friendly in Sangger and this one came up at the very top of the list immediately. "I'm glad you picked this place," Cody said as he leaned against me and I put an arm around him. "So am I," I replied. "I love you Kevvy," he said and kissed my cheek. "I love you too Cody, more than you'll ever know," I replied and kissed him back. Once our drinks arrived, we put in our order and continued cuddling and talking. "Thanks for doing this," he said and rested his head on my shoulder as I held him. "You're welcome," I replied. "There's no need to thank me though, since I'd do anything for you." "I'd do anything for you as well," he responded. I then lifted his face so he was looking at me and I pressed a tender kiss on his lips. "One thing I'll do for you right now," I began and leaned in close. "I want to ask you if you'd be my date to the dance this Friday. I know we talked about it casually, but I want to ask you this time officially." "Yeah Kevvy!" he said happily and hugged me tightly and kissed me deeply. "I'll be your date!" "Thanks babe," I said smiling and hugging him back and kissing him just as deeply. Once our food arrived, we ate for a few minutes in silence and then Cody turned to me. "It'll be nice to slow-dance with you Friday night," he said and smiled at me. "I feel the same way about you too my sweet boy," I said as I stroked his hair for a moment. "I probably shouldn't tell you this, because I know you'll be thinking about it for the rest of the week until Friday, but I have a special surprise for you after the dance. I actually have several. They're special surprises that are just for you in private." "Really!" he said and kissed me again. "Can I have a hint?" "Sorry," I said and smiled. "You'll just have to wait." He smiled even wider and we shared another kiss, then continued eating. We had stake that was tender enough to melt in your mouth, baked potatoes with butter and sour cream and corn topped with butter. It was all really wonderful and afterwards I watched as the waiter came out with two dishes of vanilla ice-cream which was Cody's favorite. "Oh!" Cody said excitedly and smiled. "You did this for me?" "I did," I said and smiled at him. "I figured I'd surprise you." "Thanks Kevvy," he said as we began eating as the waiter walked away. "You're welcome my love," I replied. Once finished, I paid at the counter and Cody and I walked to a bench next to the door to sit and wait for his mom and my parents. "Thank you so much for this Kevvy," Cody said as we held one another. "This really means everything to me. You mean everything to me." "It's no problem at all," I said and kissed his cheek gently. "I was happy to do it and it means a lot to me as well. So do you, you mean the whole world to me and you'll always mean everything to me." "I love you Kevvy," he said as we kissed again. "I love you Cody, more than anything in this world," I replied. My parents and Cody's mom arrived just about at the same time and we talked with them for a few minutes, then after Cody and I hugged goodbye and after his mom and I shared a hug, they left and I got back in the car with my parents and headed back home. 0000 Caleb Justin and I were sitting on the floor of the living room playing a couple of word games. We were giving one another the first letter, the last letter and a few blank spaces and we each had to come up with what the word might be. He was winning and I was winning, but it looked like he would be the winner once it was over. Once I guessed the last word, he told me what it was. That was it, I got my ass kicked by a 9-year-old boy. I smiled and we began rough-housing on the floor, then I heard a key in the front door. "Oh," I said as I got up and helped Justin to his feet. "Looks like Kevin's back from dinner." We turned and walked in to the kitchen and greeted my dad, mom and Kevin. "How did it go?" I asked. "It went well," Kevin said and hugged both Justin and I. Once Kevin got his shower, he and I went and sat in Justin's room and helped him with his nightly ritual with his leg and stump. "So is Cody your boyfriend?" Justin asked after a long silence while we helped him rub the warm and wet cloth over his stump. 0000 Kevin I stopped and looked at him and my mouth dropped slightly. I wasn't afraid of him knowing, but I just didn't expect it. I closed my mouth and looked directly at Justin. "Uh, Justin, what all do you know about guys who are together as boyfriends?" I asked. "My sight isn't trashed completely, at least not yet anyway," he said laughing. "I see how you guys look at one another. I don't think it's wrong or anything if you're worried about that." "Well, first off," I began. "I want you to know that we weren't going to keep it from you forever. We figured that you'd pick up on it eventually. That being said though, yes Cody and I are boyfriends and I actually told my parents about that tonight since they let me know they already figured it out. I've been concerned mainly with making sure that you're getting settled in here to our house and that you're doing okay so me letting you know about Cody and I being boyfriends has been in the back of my mind for now. I'm glad you felt comfortable to ask me though." "Thanks for answering me about that," Justin replied and we hugged, then I went back to finishing his wipe-down with the soap and water on the rag. 0000 Caleb After we helped Justin dry his stump, we lay with him for a few minutes and talked with him about how his day went, and after talking about our days with him, he said he wanted to get to bed. We covered him with his sheet and blankets, and after kissing him good night and shutting off the light, Kevin and I went to my room. "You did great with how you talked with him back there about you and Cody," I said as we sat on my bed. "Thanks," Kevin said. "I didn't want to lie to him and I guessed that he had figured it out, and if not now, then he would soon." "You're really a good and kind young man as well as a grate and loving brother and cousin," I said hugging him. "Thanks Caleb," he replied and hugged me back for a moment. "You're not the first one to give me complements like that tonight." "Mom and Dad?" I asked then smiled. "That's right," he responded. "They also complemented me on our way to the restaurant once I confirmed their hunches about Cody and I being more than friends." "Well, they're right," I said. "I'm glad I've been able to make something of my life so far and that I'm a brother you guys can be proud of," he said as we hugged again. "So am I," I replied as we held one another for a moment. 0000 Once back at their house, Cody changed in to a pair of running pants and a short-sleeved shirt like what he usually would wear at night once in the house for the evening. He sat down beside his mom while she was reading and she finished up the chapter of the book, then closed and set it down on the table beside her. "Thanks for driving me to the restaurant tonight Mom," he said and they hugged. "It's no problem Cody," she said and held him for a moment. "I was happy to do it. I know how much Kevin means to you." She let him go and they sat there looking at one another for a moment. "He really does Mom," Cody answered. "I'm glad to hear you say that," she replied. "I wanted to ask though if there's starting to be something more than just friendship between the two of you. I'm wondering, because I can see the looks you guys give one another and how you are with each other." "I love him," Cody said. "I mean, I like him physically and I think he's cute, but it's more than that. He's really nice to me, he makes me laugh, he never makes fun of me when I don't know something or if I need help understanding something and even though I think guys mine and Kevvy's age are cute, it's different when I think of Kevvy. Yeah, I think he's cute like I said, but when I think of him, I usually think of just wanting to hold him in my arms, cuddle with him and keep him safe and protected. Most of all though, I just want to love him forever." "I'm glad you feel that way," she replied. "I do want to ask though, have you guys had sex yet? I just want to know so that I can make sure you guys have protection." "We haven't had sex yet, but we've talked a little about it," Cody said. "We want to wait and we're letting our relationship get deeper." He stopped and looked down for a moment. "Cody?" his mom asked. "What is it?" "Well, I probably shouldn't say anything," he said. "What do you mean?" she asked. "If it involves your safety or Kevin's, then I should probably know." "Well, I promised Kevvy that I wouldn't say anything," Cody said. "I mean, he already took care of the situation a long time ago, but it still bothers him sometimes. His family knows about it though and the guy is in prison now." He looked down again and his face was deep-red. "Cody, I think you should at least tell me a little about whatever it is that happened to him," she said taking his hands in hers. "Uh, okay," he said unsure. "I can't tell you everything right now, since Kevvy asked me not to. He wants to tell you the whole story, but I can tell you a little I guess. Back when he was 13, a guy he went to school with started making him do things he didn't want to do. You know, like touching him in places he didn't want him to." "The guy was doing this to Kevin?" she asked horrified. "Yeah, and he'd make Kevvy do things to him," Cody said and started feeling close to tears at the thought of what had happened to his boyfriend those few short years ago. "Kevvy began changing and he started becoming an angry person and his parents eventually found out and the guy was taken to jail, then sent to prison." "I've noticed the scars on Kevin's wrists from time to time," Cody's mom said. "You don't have to say what happened, I know what those scars mean. I'm guessing that Kevin cut his wrists at some point and that's probably how his parents found out." "It happened back when he was 13," Cody said. "He's gotten counseling since that time and hasn't ever tried it again. He also said that he doesn't think about wanting to do it again." "I hope not," she said and held Cody close. "I want you to know that this doesn't change how I feel about him and I don't want you to worry about me keeping you from being his boyfriend now knowing what you told me. Knowing this, it makes sense to me why he's even more sure about not being sexually active with just anyone." "So you really are fine with Kevvy and I dating one another?" Cody asked looking at her after drying his eyes. "I'm completely fine with it," she said and kissed his cheek. "We were going to sit down with you in a couple of days and tell you about it anyway," he said. "We just wanted to be sure of what we had between the two of us before telling you or anyone else." "I understand," she said as they hugged again. "You guys have done the right thing." After they agreed that he and Kevin would talk with her in the next couple of days about their being boyfriends, they hugged and Cody went off to go to bed. Melissa continued to sit there and she thought more about the reality about what Kevin had been through. Sometimes in the middle of the night when he would stay over with her and Cody, she'd hear him yelling out in his sleep. She one time, made out him saying for someone not to tell them. Now it made sense. She had been tempted several times to wake him, but as she'd get to the door of Cody's room, she'd hear him quiet down either because Cody would hold him closer, or because he'd wake up and Cody would comfort him. She figured that it would be best to let them deal with it since Kevin would quickly calm down when Cody would talk to and comfort him. Still though, the thought of Kevin having to go through something like that sickened her. Being the kind young man he clearly was at that point in time, he didn't deserve anything like that, no one did. She also remembered him saying that time when they first met that he had been an angry person at one point in his life and now she thought she knew what he had been talking about. Putting the sad and disturbing thoughts out of her mind though, she shut off the light, went to her room and eventually went to bed for the night. 0000 Caleb Nathan and I sat finishing up homework the night before the dance. We hoped that the teachers wouldn't give us any Friday night, but it was hard to say. Once finished up, we talked for a bit then his mom came to take him home. As I lay on my bed, I thought about him. I was happy in our relationship and I knew that I wanted to do more with him when we got home after the dance. 0000 Kevin Once Cody and I arrived home that Thursday afternoon, we got in the house and closed then locked the door. I helped him off with his shoes and socks once we got to our room. We sat down beside one another and I kissed him softly on the lips. "I love you," I said and held him in my arms for a moment. "I love you too," he replied. At lunch that day, he told me that he talked a little with his mom the night before and when she asked him about us, he admitted that we're seeing one another. He also admitted that when the conversation turned to her questions about us being sexually active, he told her an abridged version of what happened to me when I was 13. He worried that I was mad at him, even though I said that he could tell his mom if the need came up. I reassured him that I wasn't mad and I promised him that I'd tell her the whole story at some point. We finished eating and he was fine again. Now on his bed, we held hands and I moved closer to him. "We should probably talk to your mom when she gets home in a few minutes," I said. "I know we talked about telling her over dinner, but I'd rather do it now since there'll be no distractions. If you want to wait, we can though." "I'm fine with doing it now," Cody replied and kissed me. "I kind of want to get it out of the way anyway." "I feel the same way," I answered. Once Melissa arrived home about 10 minutes later, we sat down in the living room and we told her officially together, that we were boyfriends. "I'm so glad it's you that Cody has chosen as his boyfriend," Melissa said and came over to hug me, then her son. "I always worried about him getting with guys who wouldn't treat him right and you've definitely shown me that you're a good person deep down to your soul." "Well, I have my moments," I said referring to my points of anger, especially when I was 13. I told her the parts of when I was 13 and being hurt by Richie that Cody had withheld and after the whole story had been told, I had broken down once again. Melissa held me and Cody had an arm around my shoulders as I cried, then got myself under control again. "I'm more sad for how you acted based on what you went through rather than feeling angry," she said. "Of course I don't like how you were towards your parents, Caleb or Alicia, but I understand why it happened. As I said, I'm more sad about that part than angry, but I'm sad about the whole thing. That being said, you've been able to move on from that to a certain extent and you're good for Cody. You're good for a lot of people Kevin." "Thanks," I said as we hugged again. After the conversation was over, we went to Cody's room so I could get my homework started and help Cody with his. He was finished with his homework quickly and I still was working on mine. While I was getting finished with my essay for History, Cody was sitting on the floor at the foot of his bed playing with his Legos and he had his shirt off at this point and wen I'd look up, I could see his naked shoulders and back. "Damn I want him!" I thought. His skin looked so soft and silky,. I worked hard to return my attention back to my homework, but then I felt the bed shift a few minutes later. Cody got on the bed and sat there with his head turned looking at me. I continued writing, then I felt a tickling on the back of my neck. I then heard a small but mischievous giggle from Cody. "What are you doing Cody?" I asked in a faked warning tone. "Nothing," he replied and was laughing as he said this. I put my paper down and turned to him. "I'm just sitting here watching you," he said. "Ahuh," I said. I went back to my paper, then a few minutes later I felt that same tickling on the back of my neck, then when I looked up, Cody was sitting there with a most innocent expression on his face. "Mr. Cody," I said trying to put a stern tone in my voice, but it quickly turning in to me laughing. "What Kevvy," he said with the most innocent tone in his voice. "I'm not doing anything." "Yeah right," I said and put my homework off to the side and jumped on him. I began tickling his sides and he was laughing and pushing against me as if he was trying to get out from under me. This had the effect of making me hard, especially with my hands on his naked sides and him beginning to harden underneath me. I leaned my face down and pressed my lips to his. We lay there deeply kissing and caressing one another, then I broke the kiss. "Was that what you were looking for my sexy and silly boy?" I asked and kissed him again. "Yeah," he said and smiled. "I figured I'd ask for it in a different way." "That was definitely different," I said and held him for a moment. "Now I do have to finish my paper." He kissed me, then got back down on the floor and this time he was doing some drawing while I wrote the last paragraph to my paper. Once it was finished, I checked over it and then put it in my bag along with the rest of my homework materials. Once back on the bed, Cody got back up on the bed and lay beside me and I took him in my arms. "Would you like me to rub your back and shoulders for you?" I asked. We had done this a couple of times, but it had been a few days and I had wanted to do it to him and especially wanted to at that moment. "Yeah," he said and smiled at me. I helped him on to his back and began massaging his shoulders. He yond and thanked me. After that, I worked my way down his shoulders to his back and massaged pressing in with my thumbs. He liked that and I did this until I got to the end of his spine. I repeated the motions back up to his shoulders, then just stroked his back up and down in long gentle strokes. "That feels so good Kevvy," he said sleepily. "I'm glad you like it," I said and lay there with my arm draped across his back. "Can I do it to you now?" he asked and turned then sat up. "I'd love that my sweet Cody," I said and he helped me off with my shirt. I lay down on my stomach and he did virtually the same things to me. I guided him a couple of times, and soon I was feeling sleepy like he had been a few minutes earlier. "Thanks babe," I said as he finished and then pressed a soft kiss on my shoulder. "You're welcome," he said and snuggled up against me. 0000 Caleb Later that night, I talked to my parents about my plans to take Nathan to the dance. They already knew and were fine with us going and so was his mom, but I wanted to let them know that I had something planned afterwards for the two of us. We have a guest cottage in back of our house a few feet away. We would keep it cleaned up and would air it out in the Summer, then go in from time to time and clean, then dust the inside of it. So it was ready for virtually anyone to stay a night or a few days in it. I wanted to spend the weekend there with Nathan and I explained this to them. They called Amy and we all talked on speaker phone after I made sure that Nathan wouldn't be in the conversation; I wanted to surprise him. Amy quickly agreed provided that the two of us call at least a couple of times throughout the day to check in. My parents said the same thing when I talked to them about my idea before they called Amy. After the five of us talked, we finished up with Amy, then hung up. I continued planning and asked my parents for a couple of extra sets of candle sticks. They were ones that weren't being used and they didn't have any plans to use them and they were ones that they were keeping for the guest cottage anyway. They got them for me and after I put them in the cottage and got the bed made with fresh and clean sheets, I closed and locked up the cottage before returning to the house. I was really pleased with myself with my planning so far. Author's Notes I'll have the dance and many other things in Chapter 19. Kevin and Cody will become even closer, Nathan and Caleb will do more love-making and Justin's situation will be decided as well. So everyone have a good evening and I'll see you guys in Chapter 19.
