Besties © 2020 (A short coming-out story) by David Lee To some people, the sight of two 17-year-old males sharing a queen-size bed might have seemed strange. More than a few boys are afraid to be that close to another member of their gender for fear of being labeled. To Brady Conway and Ian Huber, it was a very natural, ordinary thing to do. They'd been best buddies since they were in kindergarten and had often snuggled in a smaller bed when they had sleepovers as little kids. Sunday night, they were alone in the lake-side cabin jointly owned by their parents. It was a kind of mini vacation/reunion at the end of their junior year of high school. They'd been separated for the entirety of it because Brady was in Australia with his family. His father had had the opportunity to exchange jobs with another professor in his field. So, each teacher's family had the chance to live in a foreign country and learn new things. It had been a great way to see another part of the world and experience its culture, but Brady had missed Ian like crazy. "I don't think you've heard anything I've said for the past 10 minutes," Ian teased. "Yes, I have. You said you went to only one dance at school while I was gone because it wasn't fun without me." "Yeah, I said that 10 minutes ago. I think we'd better turn out the lights and go to sleep. Your body hasn't adjusted to the time difference." "Yup, you're right about that. I was awake at some ungodly hour this morning, but now I can hardly keep my eyes open." Ian got up to shut most of the windows because the temperature had dropped greatly from the high of 90 F it had peaked at in the afternoon. Evidently, a cold front was moving in rapidly. It was likely to trigger unstable weather. He left one window in the bedroom open a crack at the top to prevent the room from getting stuffy. In the event of a storm, rain wasn't likely to come in that close to the overhang of the roof. By the time Ian returned to the bed, Brady was fast asleep. He looked so cute and innocent. The sight took Ian back to the early days of their friendship. He turned off the lamp, pulled the sheet over his sleeping buddy, and moved the duvet up enough so he could reach it easily if the cabin cooled off more in the night. ---------- Ian remained awake for a while reminiscing about their childhood. He could barely remember a time, before the past year, when the two hadn't been inseparable. Their fathers, Isaac Huber and Ken Conway, had joined the university faculty the same year, and both families had rented old houses in a section of town which were as good as they could afford on the paltry salaries beginning professors were paid. The neighborhood was a bit down at heel but wasn't dangerous at the time. However, some crime was beginning to creep in -- stealing of minor items along with marijuana and some other drug use. University towns were never immune to some of that. Liz Conway and Jan Huber were able to secure teaching positions in the public schools, and the families tried to save all they could for down payments on houses in a better location. In the meantime, the best playmates for the boys were each other. Despite trying not to spend money they didn't have to; an opportunity arose through the university which the families felt they should take advantage of. For very little cost, they could join other educators on a charter flight to Europe. It was round-trip from Chicago to Brussels. They would have three weeks to travel wherever they wanted to. Eurail passes could be purchased fairly inexpensively at the time, and there were plenty of rooms for rent in small hotels and private residences, as long as they didn't mind sharing bathrooms with other travelers. They decided the exposure it would give their sons was worth living where they were and scrimping for another year before they'd have enough money to move. Educational experiences were more important than material goods. So, along with their parents, the two six-year-olds embarked on a journey many adults would envy. Much of their time was spent traveling by rail, hearing foreign languages, and eating new foods, as well as seeing historical sights. Every day was an adventure. The boys were impressed by the size of cathedrals but didn't appreciate their significance. They did love visiting castles and hearing stories about knights. Attending a jousting tournament in the city of Siena, Italy with horses and lances was a highlight for them. During most of the nights, the boys shared a bed. Their parents took turns getting rooms with an extra bed and hosting them so the other couple could have some quality time by themselves. Of course, the boys had no idea what was going on. They simply appreciated being together. ---------- In first grade, there was a unit about castles and knights. The teacher asked if anyone had ever been in a castle. Of course, both boys raised their hands. They eagerly shared what they knew, and most of the kids were enthralled. However, one kid, Jimmy Pruitt, called them liars. Not surprisingly, he was a kid who told lots of tall tales. The next day, Ian and Brady showed up with photos of themselves in front of a couple of castles and at the tournament. Jimmy was forced to shut up. ---------- Ian eventually drifted off to sleep, smiling over the fun his pal and he had had. He woke up about four hours later to flashes of lightning, loud thunder, and a howling wind. The cold front that moved in over the lake had evidently generated a dramatic storm. The bedroom had become decidedly chilly, so Ian pulled the duvet up to cover them. Brady had already migrated to the center of the bed to share Ian's body heat. A lightning strike followed by a particularly loud boom of thunder jolted Brady awake. He was trembling from the shock of it, so Ian did what he'd done years ago in similar situations and snuggled against Brady's back with an arm draped across his abs. Brady settled down, but sleep evaded him for a while. "I'm a big boy now," he said softly. "I'm not afraid like I was when I was little. It just startled me." "Sorry, I'll back off," Ian said as he began to move. "No, don't go. I still enjoy knowing I'm not alone. You comforted me a lot of times in storms." "It wasn't entirely unselfish; it benefitted me as well," Ian admitted. "I had this crazy notion that if a tornado came and we were holding onto each other, it wouldn't be able to carry us off. Besides, I figured if it did manage to blow us away, we'd be together. Funny how little kids' minds work." "I like the sentiment, even if the storm would have taken us away, we'd still be with one another. I think we could survive a lot of things as a team." After a half hour of pyrotechnics, the storm moved on and the teens eventually went back to sleep. Brady stayed awake a little longer than Ian because his sleep patterns were messed up. He felt comfortable in Ian's arms. He wondered how Ian would feel about it when the truth came out. ---------- The weather system, which had been directly overhead in the wee hours, had drifted well toward the east and the skies were clearing by dawn. Bright sunshine awakened the pair of teenagers who had slept until 9:00 AM. Neither was in a hurry to get up. "Last night was almost like old times," Ian said. "It stirred up a lot of great memories. I've missed you so much this past year. I hope we never get separated like that again." "Me too, but I suppose eventually things will happen that are beyond our control." "Maybe, but perhaps we can figure out how to control them." "Something might separate us right now because I gotta pee like a racehorse!" Brady exclaimed as he jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom. "Not for long," Ian called as he rushed to join him at the toilet bowl." "This is too much," Brady laughed. "My Grandpa Conway used to say we were so close that we peed in the same pot. I guess he was right." The boys continued to snigger as they attempted to brush their teeth. ---------- Working together, they made breakfast. It didn't take a lot of prep as it consisted of cereal, juice, and coffee cake. Ian's mom had made the latter to supplement their morning meals lest they starve on their own. In reality, both were reasonably good at cooking simple meals. The sport of wrestling had made them conscious of nutrition, and it was rare that they consumed as many carbs as they had so far that morning. "So, should we take the jet ski out today?" Ian asked. "There aren't many people around on a weekday, and anyone who's fishing should be done by now. I doubt it was very good after the storm anyway." "Sounds like a plan. I'll drive first because I know you like to snuggle against my back." "Hey, you didn't complain during the storm!" "I'm not complaining now; just observing," Brady grinned. ---------- They took turns operating the machine and clinging to each other's back. It was a good excuse to have bodily contact, though their life vests separated their skin. Brady would miss this closeness if things went awry. Around noon, they put the jet ski back in the boathouse and went up to the cabin to make lunch. It was a combination of sandwiches, salads, and fruit -- all-in-all a healthy meal. The rest of the day was spent alternating between sunning and swimming. Both rearranged the edges of their Speedos enough to keep from having distinct tanning lines. They discussed finding a spot to sun their buns to get a more even color. For dinner, they grilled burgers to put with chips and salad. Again, they ate pretty well on their own, with no mothers around to oversee them. ---------- The following day passed in a similar manner except that Brady appeared preoccupied at times. Ian wondered if his friend was still adjusting to the time change or if something more serious was on his mind. Toward bedtime, he found out. "Ian, I need to come clean with you and I hope you'll still be my bud when I'm done. This is gonna be hard, but here goes. I'm not the person you think I am. I'm not the all-American boy next door. I have a dark secret." "Who did you kill, and do you need help hiding the body?" Ian grinned. "You know I'd have your back, whatever happened." "Be serious, man! It's worse than that. I'm..., I'm gay!" "Oh God!" Ian exclaimed. "I should have kept my mouth shut; I knew you'd hate me!" "No, it's not that. I'm just surprised that I didn't see this coming. I don't hate you; just the opposite, I love you. I always have. Remember when we were little and told our folks we wanted to marry each other when we grew up? Now that's possible!" "Don't joke around, Ian." "I'm not. I care about you more than anyone else I know." "Then how come you never told me?" "Probably for the same reason you didn't tell me until now. I was afraid I'd lose you. We're both idiots for not trusting one another." To prove he was serious, Ian pulled his best friend into a tight hug and kissed him on the mouth. They backed off smiling and went in for another kiss. This one was more sensuous. "I kissed a girl at a party in Sydney when we'd both had a bit to drink and it didn't feel anything like this!" "Did you do more than kiss?" "Nope. She didn't do anything for me. I mean, nothing!" "So, do I do anything for you?" Instead of answering, Brady guided Ian's hand to the bulge in his shorts. "I can't argue with that! Um, I had the same kind of experience kissing my date after the dance. It wasn't great, but I figured maybe that was all there was to it. Boy was I wrong!" For the next several minutes their lips locked as their hands explored one another's body. They had often touched in rather intimate places when wrestling but this was different. Each caress, no matter how delicate, sent thrills through their bodies. "Um, we've gotta get off or we'll never sleep tonight!" Ian panted. "How should we do it?" "If we were in an erotic story on the web, we'd be screwing like bunnies right now." "You wanna be top or bottom?" "I'm not sure I want to be either just yet. Could we rub our bodies together or something?" "Yes! I'm not sure I'm ready to do the other stuff either." By this time, their shorts and underwear were already halfway down their legs, so they helped each other get completely naked. Ian lay on the bed, pulling Brady on top of him. They aligned their hot phalluses side by side, trying not to get their balls trapped in an uncomfortable position. Then, they squirmed and thrusted gently to create the stimulation they craved. Their foreskins slipped back and forth, aided by a mixture of precum and sweat. As their feelings intensified, their lustful moans increased. Soon, they were gasping as they headed toward fulfillment. Release came in the form of the most powerful orgasms either had ever experienced. They continued to kiss deeply as they came down from the mountain top. "Oh man, how're we gonna clean up all this jizz?" Ian wondered. "It's starting to run down my sides onto the sheet." "Do we need to clean it up, or should we spread it all over each other? I'd like to bathe in it! We're gonna have to wash the sheets before the `rents get here anyway." "Okay!" By the time they'd anointed one another's body with their offerings, there was little left to get on the bedding. "Have you ever tasted your cum?" Brady asked. "Yeah, but I'd like to sample yours too." "If one of us turns around in the opposite direction, I'm sure we could milk out a bit of it." Brady changed his position and they licked each other's semi-hard dicks. Not only did they enjoy the taste but the sensation of doing something "naughty" caused them to stiffen up again. Tonguing turned to sucking, and both found that they wanted more. After about 20 minutes of this, both exploded again. Brady spewed slightly ahead of Ian, but he didn't hesitate to finish the job. In fact, he was drinking Ian's nectar before he finished unloading his own. They returned to kissing again and finally fell asleep snuggled together. ---------- It was another day of sunshine which eventually awakened the sleeping teens. Both had slept soundly, but neither was eager to stir. Truth be told, each was a little anxious about how the other might be feeling about the new plateau in their relationship. Ian tested the waters. "Tell me one word that describes how you feel this morning," he said. "You expect me to put all my emotions into a single word? I'll have to think carefully about that." "That's the point of the exercise. Ms. Carver made us do that in LA classes last year. It's supposed to make our writing more concise, and it seems to work. She wouldn't let us use terms like `butt-ugly' or `awesome' which she said are overused to the point of being useless." "Okay. `Awesome' was one that came to mind." While Brady was wracking his brain for the perfect thing to say, Ian embraced him and licked his ear. "Hmm... You're distracting me!" "Is that a bad thing?" "Nope, but I can't think clearly when you do it because it makes me too horny." "Should I stop?" Ian asked. "NO! Hey, I've got it. What I feel this morning more than anything else is `loved.' Now what's your word?" "Cool! I mean, I think it's cool that you feel my love for you. I can't top your word, but I think `complete' would be my choice." "I like that. I think it might be better than mine," Brady said. "I believe they're equal, and both describe us perfectly. We've always been best friends, and now that we know we're both gay, I think we really could become life-partners. What's to hold us back?" "Possibly our parents." "They're about as liberal as anyone we know. They were among the first to welcome Don Roff and his husband, Mike, to our church," Ian reminded him. "Yeah, but I wonder if they'll feel the same when it's their own flesh and blood." "I believe they will, and if they don't, we can just go to the courthouse and tie the knot when we turn 18 next year. You worry too much, Brady." "Yeah, and right now I'm worried about my breath or I'd kiss you until you couldn't take any more!" "I'm sure we both have penis-breath, so what's the problem?" With that, they kissed, tentatively at first, but then deeply for several minutes, making their morning erections even harder, if that were possible. Their mouths tasted a bit funky, but as Ian had predicted, since both were similar, neither guy was offended. Needing to pee, and wanting to cum at the same time, left them in a predicament. They weren't sure which function would win out. Eventually, they scurried to the shower where they wouldn't have to worry about soiling the bed. When the feeling and the sound of the water hit them, their bladders cut loose. Being in a tight embrace at the time meant that they wet on each other. It was a sensual moment they would long remember. Once they were clean and dried off, they lay back on the bed in a position to nurse one another to orgasm. Thus, their day began feeling "loved and complete." ----------- On Wednesday, the guys got a message that their parents and siblings would join them on Friday for a long weekend. Ian's brother, Scot and Brady's siblings, Collin and Clare were all turning 10 in the month of June. They would celebrate at the cabin as they often had. Being twins, Collin and Clare were close, and Scot fit in well with them. Since they'd been playmates from birth, they tended to get into mischief together. The cabin would be a very lively place when all were present. "Well, we have today and tomorrow to do what we want in peace," Brady reflected. "I love those squirrels, but it's really nice when there's just the two of us." "Yeah, and this will make us feel like we shouldn't put off coming out. I think it would be best to get it over with all at once with both families." "I agree. If things go south, I'll bet Grandpa Conway would take us in." "So, what do you want to do while we're still free?" Ian asked. "I'd love to ski, but we'd need a spotter to be legal. That's one good thing about having others here too. "Let's take the boat over to that deserted spot on the other side of the lake and sun bare-ass. I'm sure we'll come up with something to amuse ourselves while were there." "For sure!" Ian agreed. ---------- On Friday morning, the guys stripped the sheets from the bed and put them in the washer. They would have to give up the big bed for one set of parents because there were only two bedrooms. They could claim the double bed in the loft for more privacy and insist that the younger children use the futons in the lounge area instead of sleeping on air mattresses up there. The smaller bed would force them to sleep closer together, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. They spent the rest of the morning sunning naked in the spot across the lake but returned to the cabin as soon as they got the text telling them their families were nearly there and had brought lunch. ---------- The trio of ten-year-old's put on their swimwear immediately and could scarcely finish their food before running out to play in the sand and water. Their mothers slathered them with sunscreen before setting them free. Making them stay longer to eat would have been more of a battle than it was worth, and there were always things around to snack on. As the grownups were clearing the table, Ian and Brady decided it was time. "Um, we have an announcement to make and you may want to sit down for it," Brady said. "Is it something bad," Liz asked. "No, Mom, we don't think so, and we hope you'll be as happy as we are. It's been a long time coming. We first told you about 10 years ago. We're almost grown up and we still want to get married." "Lots of people want to get married," Jan frowned. "I don't get it." "We want to marry each other," Ian enlightened his mother. "Neither of us is into girls, and we want to spend our lives together." "I guess I should have seen it coming," Ken, shook his head. "Brady was so lost the first month we were in Australia. I hadn't considered how traumatic it would be for you guys to be separated. I'm sorry I insisted on having him go. He had asked if he could stay here and live with Grandpa while we were abroad." "It's okay, Dad. You did what you felt was best for me, and I did have a lot of great experiences. It also made me realize I could never live without my soulmate," Brady said. "So, will you want to tie the knot before your senior year, or will you wait until college?" Ian's father asked. "We can wait if you don't want to sign for us, but we know we'll end up together however it works out," Ian answered. "Are you absolutely certain you want to do this," Jan wondered aloud. "Have you, um, experimented with the opposite sex at all?" "Don't you think that's a bit personal, Mom? I know for sure that when I kiss a girl there aren't any sparks. It just doesn't do anything for me. When I kiss, Brady, well.... I don't want to be too graphic about it but think about what it felt like when you first kissed Dad. Now, imagine how that affects my body. You probably remember what it did to him." "Um, yes, that's graphic enough," his mother replied, thinking of how Isaac's erection felt pressed against her body. "Well, I propose we open the bottle of white zin we brought along to go with dinner tonight. We can have a little toast to our sons' future happiness," Ken suggested. Had I anticipated this; I'd have bought Champagne." ---------- Cuddled in the double bed in the loft, Ian and Brady lay awake for a while that night. They still had a little adrenalin in their systems from the anticipation of coming out, and the experience of doing it. "I'm glad that's over," Ian sighed. "Me too! I was under more pressure about coming out than I realized. First, I didn't know how you'd react, and then we didn't know how today would go." "We should do something to celebrate," Ian suggested, licking Brady's ear. "Um, do we dare since we don't have a wall or even a door at the end of our space?" "The rug-rats are knocked out from playing and our parents are behind closed doors. If we're quiet, we can pull it off. I've got a used T-shirt for cleanup if we need it." "Maybe we won't need it," Brady said as he turned around to dive under the covers. Half an hour later, they were much more relaxed and none of their jizz had gone to waste. --------------------------------End----------------------------------- Author's notes: Thanks for the great response to Lock-down!
