Chapter 7

It was seven-thirty when I received a call from Jake.

"Hey Kyle, where are you?"

"I'm at home," I replied simply.

"What? Aren't you going to go pick up Colin or something?"

"Nope, he can't make it."

"Oh," replied Jake and then was silent. "Are you still coming then?"

"Of course. I wouldn't want to miss movie night," I replied with a bit more enthusiasm in my voice.

"Alright dude! We're planning to all meet at the movie theater at around eight."

"Okay, I'll head over right now."

I managed to reach the movie theater at exactly eight o'clock. After spending the whole afternoon in my room, I was in great need of going out and hanging with friends so I could relax and hopefully, get Colin out of my mind. I had convinced myself that it was most likely that Colin probably wasn't crazily obsessed about me like I had become about him. Now I had to get back on track and for me there was nothing better to distract me than a good movie.

"Kyle! Over here!"

I looked over and saw Ashley waving at me. She was standing outside the movie theater next to a girl with light brown hair who looked familiar but I didn't recognize her. Next to them, Jake and Zac were chatting animatedly.

"Hey! Glad that you made it. I was thinking no one was going to show up!" said Ashley as she gave me a hug.

"What do you mean?"

"Oh, Bryan called and said that he and Karen wouldn't be able to make it."

"Why?"

"No idea. But here, this is my friend Hannah. She's in cheerleading with me. I don't think you've met her before."

"No I don't think I have. It's nice to meet you Hannah. I'm Kyle," I said to the girl who was standing next to Ashley as I extended out my hand.

"Well, nice to meet you Kyle," said Hannah as she shook my hand.

I then realized that I had a class with her. "You're in my third period history, right?"

"Yeah, I usually sit over by the windows," she replied with a smile.

I had to admit that Hannah looked very pretty but I decided I wasn't interested.

"Okay Kyle you have the deciding vote," interrupted Jake. "Ashley and Hannah want to watch some sappy chick flick but I think we should check out that new horror movie."

"Do you even have to ask?" I replied laughing. "Horror all the way!" I said and gave Jake a high five.

"Alright, then that's decided, let's get tickets."

"Wait!" interrupted Ashley. "That's not fair. Hannah and I are going to watch our movie no matter what. So you can join us or not."

"Not!" Jake added and Zac and I nodded our heads in agreement.

"Fine, then you're not invited over to my house afterwards either."

"Wait. Now that's not fair!" protested Jake.

"Take or leave it."

"Fine," said Jake the turned towards us. "Sorry guys."

"Jake, I can't believe you are falling for that!" I replied upset that Jake was so quickly ditching us.

"Why don't you guys come also?" asked Jake.

"No way, Zac and I will just find something to do by ourselves." I turned towards Zac. "Right?"

"Yeah," he said in agreement.

"Fine, I guess that's it then. See you later then!" said Jake before following Ashley and Hannah off to get tickets.

"Can you believe that? Well, I guess it's just us," I said to Zac.

"Yeah, but I really don't mind. I am really looking forward to this new horror flick. Some of the guys from the swim team saw it together and they said it was really good."

"Yeah, I heard it's pretty good too. Let's go get tickets."

Zac and I got tickets and then some popcorn. We talked a bit more about horror movies as we waited for the movie to begin.

The movie was actually pretty good. I like horror movies but sometimes they can be just a bit too senseless. This one however was good and had some nice scary parts in it. At one scary point, Zac instinctively grabbed my arm, which scared me, and I let out a small yelp. We then looked at each other and just laughed. Soon the movie was over and we were headed back outside.

"That was good," I remarked as we exited the movie theater.

"Yeah, so much better than some stupid chick flick."

"Yeah and a bit scary. Remember that one part when you grabbed my arm and scared the shit out of me."

Zac laughed. "Yeah, sorry about that. That part just shocked me."

I laughed also. "No problem."

We walked over to the side of the movie theater where I guessed Zac's car was parked.

"So do you want to get some ice cream or something?" I asked.

"I'd love to but I had better head back home," said Zac as we stopped on the sidewalk.

"Wait, why?"

"I have practice tomorrow morning and I still have some homework to finish up so I better head back home."

"Okay," I replied with a shrug.

"But there is one thing I would like you to know," said Zac a bit more quietly.

"What?" I asked confused.

Before I had the chance to say or do anything, Zac leaned forward and kissed me softly on the lips. His lips were pressed on my lips for just a few seconds before he drew back.

After it happened, I just stood there completely bewildered and not being able to register a single thought. I just saw Zac smile at me and then walk away. A few minutes, I came out of my state of shock.

"What the fuck!" I said aloud.

Zac was gone and I was standing by myself in the movie theater parking lot. A couple that was walking towards the theater looked towards me after my short outburst. I turned around and started walking to my car.

Seriously though, what the fuck? Zac had kissed me. He wanted to me know something. That he liked me? Zac Anderson liked me?

We had been in the same circle of friends since ninth grade but we never really used to hang out together. All I knew about him was that he was cool guy and some of the girls found him attractive. He was a nice, funny guy and I can't say that I didn't have fun watching a movie with him tonight. However, I had never expected something like this to happen.

To be continued...

What do you think? How do you like it so far? Let me know!
