But if you like it, read it and write to me. Chapter 3: Misery Business I guess I hadn't been as prepared as I thought I was. The whole 'backlash' was...fun. If fun is humiliating and makes you want to die. I had regrouped myself and headed to school. As I walked into school, I felt every eye glide to me. I walked past Davis, Ballard, Kendall, their friend Rachel, and Bradley, who all giggled except Davis, who just threw me an unreadable look. I walked past the geeks and the drama majors and even kept walking when Julie Rison and Christina Cameron grabbed either side of my arm and led me to my locker. "Hi." I said nervously, " What's going on?" "Nothing, we just thought we'd ask you a few questions, you up?" Julie smirked. "Not really in the mood to..." I said to no avail. "So, how long have you been gay?" Christina asked. "What?" I asked. "I mean, was it for the party or was it three months? Or years?" Julie asked. "That's kinda personal. I should..." I stopped when we finally reached my locker. On my locker, someone had taken the time to write, in bold red letters on three different pages, 'FAG'. Christina and Julie stepped away from me, giggling slightly and headed back to their group. I felt like I had been punched in the stomach and I found myself being watched. I opened my locker, snatching books from my locker, then I slammed it and walked away, looking over to see Hannah standing with Marco and his friends. She smiled, but I just walked away to class. "Don't worry, he's just mad. He'll be okay." Marco said, hugging his baby sister. "How long is it gonna take?" Hannah asked. "I don't know." Marco said, walking her to class, " I'm sure it won't be too long." Ballard walked up, " Hey Hannah." he said. "Hey Ballard." she said sheepishly. "I was just wondering, how much would it be to get a dance? The lunch table okay?" he chuckled, walking past with the group. "See what drinking gets you?" Marco said, walking her to class. ===================================================================================================================== The day had gone from locker comments to more comments that wouldn't fit into the locker. Paintings of me with...things in my ass. I was seriously tired of this bull. I debated leaving at lunch, but I found myself walking through the lunch room and once again, enduring the stares and the giggles and whispers. I finally gave up and made to leave the cafeteria. "Hey, where you going?" Bradley said, stepping in front of me. "You should move." I said angrily. "Calm down, you don't want to be a rotten fruit, now do you?" Bradley said loudly. "You know what..." I said, moving closer, but when I got closer, Marco stepped in front of me. "Hey Brad, how about you go cool down. I heard that herpes outbreak can be retriggered." Marco said. Bradley looked at him angrily, " What? You here to save your boyfriend?" he asked angrily. "No. I'm here to tell you to back the hell off my friend." Marco spat. "Marco." I said, turning to Bradley, " Don't you have people to infect? I mean could you be working on your 5% IQ?" I asked. Some nearby students broke into a laugh. "Funny you fag." Bradley said, staring a hole through me. The kids at the table had stopped laughing and were now wearing the somber face that I would also wear. "Watch your mouth." Marco said angrily. I just shook my head and walked away. As I walked to my car, I bumped into a student, who dropped his books and looked at me strangely. "Watch where you're going, queer!" and that sent me into a rage. I punched him in the face, jumping onto him as he hit the floor and laying into him. He shouted loudly to get off him and I heard the shuffle of feet and soon someone was pulling me off him. "Mr. Lawrence! I suggest you pull yourself together!" Mr. Christopher said, out of breath. "You see what they did to my locker and what they've been saying to me! Are you serious?!" I shouted. "You are gay, are you not?" Mr. Christopher said. I just stared at him in shock. "Mr. Christopher!" Carson Common, the principal, said, " I assure you that his comments do not reflect the opinion of our school." "Are you sure? Cause all I'm seeing is that I am not welcomed in this school." I said angry. "We are looking into the 'locker' incident and we are trying to enforce equality and understanding. That does not give you the right, nor the authority to attack other students. I am afraid I'll have to suspend you and call your parents." Mr. Common said. I shrugged, " Tell them I said hi when you talk to them." I said, turning to walk away. "You don't even know how long you're suspended for." Mr. Common yelled after me. "Screw you." I said, leaving school. =============================================== It rained later that day. I was at home, looking out the window, onto the street, and watching cars go by. My cell had been ringing off the hook and I wasn't sure if it was Hannah, my parents, Marco...or whoever. I cried harder than I ever have. I had come home and dressed down, jogging pants and a wife-beater. I was skinny, but muscled and the comfort I felt was very relaxing. I closed the blinds and went to the bathroom, then I suddenly heard the doorbell ring. "Just a minute." I yelled down the stairs. There was a heavy knock on the door. I jogged to the door and opened it, and was shocked to see who it was, " Davis?" I asked. Davis had his letterman's jacket draped over his head as he pushed in, then he just stood there staring at me, " Uh, hey." was all he said. "Hey." I said carefully looking to the ground. "So, umm, I saw what you did to Charlie." he said with the tiniest smirk. I chuckled a little, which probably made me sound a little crazy, " Yeah. I'm just a little...what's the word..." I asked. "On edge." he smirked fully. I chuckled, " No. Well, yeah, but I meant about you being here. It's off-putting." I said carefully, " You're the last person I'd expect to be here." "Why?" he asked. "I don't know, you just....You barely know me." I said quickly. "That and you still think I'm still just a jock." he said seriously. "No. Sorry, I'm just...things are...edgy." I said slowly. "It's okay." Davis said, " So, are you okay?" "I've just been outed to the whole student body, had my locker hate-crimed, and got suspended." I said, thinking about it, " Oh yeah, I was outed by my best friend." "Yeah, that is kinda bad, I guess." he said, looking around the house, " So where're your parents?" "This month?" I asked sarcastically. "Ok..yeah." he said slowly. "India. Bollywood. Wherever dad's job takes them." I said. "Yeah, I think my parents know your parents." he said, getting this deer caught in the headlights look, " That's kind of a geeky thing to say, but..." Awkward Silence. "Ok, you know that question I asked about why are you here?" I asked. "Oh, ummm, just wanted to see how you are." Davis explained. "Oh, then, better." I smiled. "I'm surprised Marco isn't here." Davis let slip. "Marco? Why would he be here?" I asked. "I don't know, aren't you like his best friend? At the party, he seemed a little mad that you were hanging with me." Davis said sheepishly. "Yeah, you were saved." I smirked. "Actually, it was annoying. I was actually having fun at one of Ballard's weekly parties. Once every once in a while is great, but..." he said. "You were having fun?" I asked. "Yup." he said simply. I sighed and turned to the tv, which I had forgotten was on. I had turned on a movie when I got home, 'Death Proof', and it was just starting, " You wanna watch it?" I asked. "Sure." he said as we sat on the couch. As the movie continued, I noticed that he started to inch closer to me. At the end of the movie, I guess I had fallen to sleep, which was crazy because the movie was so loud. When I opened my eyes, my head was on his lap. I raised up quickly, " Sorry, I'm really sorry! I just...I guess I fell asleep." I said quickly. I stood and walked across the room. "No, it's okay." Davis smiled as he walked to me, " It's okay." he said, kissing me. His lips burned into me and I smiled in mid kiss, feeling him move in closer. He began to touch me, to pull my shirt up. As my shirt got up to my pecs, I heard the doorbell and Davis pulled himself off me. "I gotta go." Davis said, walking to the door. I was confused, " Wait, I thought...does my breath stink?" I asked, checking it. "NO, I just..." he said, opening the door and blowing past Marco and Hannah, who just stared as he walked away. "What're you guys doing here?" I asked, still shocked by the kiss I had just shared with Davis and his sudden departure. While Marco looked back to the street, Hannah took this time to talk, " We just came to see how you were...we've been calling you all day." she said. "I'm good." I said coldly. "Can we come in?" Hannah asked. "Not a good idea." I said quickly. I saw Hannah's face turn into sadness, " I just. I'm not ready to talk to anybody." "What about him?" Marco asked, pointing to the street. "He came over earlier." I said without thinking. "What were you two doing in there?!" Marco asked. "MARCO!" Hannah said loudly. "None of your busines." I snapped, " I can't stress enough about how much this isn't your business." "Adaen." Marco said slowly, " He's not a good..." "Marco stop it! Now. He's been nothing but nice to me." I said angrily. "Until he gets what he wants." he said. "Either way, I'm going to sleep." I said exhaustedly, " Bye guys." I said, shutting the door.
