High Tide
Chapter 3

[Tyler’s POV]

“So, Tyler are you all packed?”

“No, the thing only that is packed is my bag. Everything else is still at Brent’s house.”

“Ok, but you should have gone to school today.”

“Why? So I could see all the people who hate me for who I am. So I could see my ex-boyfriend. Yeah, that’s what I really wanted to do today.”

“So that you can get to college, and make something of yourself.”

“I know that I need to do that. I’m not sure if I told you this or not already, but I really appreciate you helping me out.”

“You’re my brother. I will always help you.”

I gave him a hug.

“So what time are we heading over there to get your things?”

“I don’t know. I have to call Brent’s mom and find out what time we can go over there today. So we can do that.”

“Do that soon. We have stuff to pick up for you. I want to know if we are going to need to do that first or go get your things from Brent’s.”

“Ok, I will give her a call really fast.”

“I grabbed my phone and dialed the house phone. It rang twice and she answered.

“Hello?” She asked. Oh how I had missed hearing her voice.”

“Oh Tyler. How have you been?”

“Ok I guess. Would it be ok if my brother and I came and got my things? I’m moving into my apartment today.”

“Yeah, come on over. I want to talk to you when you get here.”

“OK, we will be over in 20 minutes.”

“OK, see you then.”

I hung up the phone and went to put on some clean clothes. When I got out of the bedroom, Peter was standing by the door holding the keys to the U-Haul truck that he rented. I put on my shoes, and we walked out the door.

It only took us 5 minutes to drive from Peter’s to Brent’s. When we got closer to the driveway, I got excited when I didn’t see Brent’s car. After last night, I was too embarrassed to see him.

We backed the truck up, got out and went inside. We said hi to Brent’s mom. We wasted little time in packing things in boxes and taking them out to the truck. I was surprised at how much stuff I had. When living with it all for so long, somehow I thought I had practically nothing.

Once everything was packed away in boxes and loaded on the truck, Peter and I started taking apart the bed. Just when we got the mattress and box spring off the frame, Brent and his mom walked into the room.

“Tyler, can I talk to you?”

“I just want to load everything on the truck and get out of here.”

“Brent will help your brother. Now come with me.”

I wasn’t about to start arguing. She is a nice person, but this doesn’t mean you want to make her mad

We walked out to the back porch. I sat on one of the patio chairs. She pulled one so that it was in front of mine and sat down. For a little bit, we sat in silence.

“I want you to know that I still love you Tyler. I miss you being here. Your fun to talk too.”

“I love and miss you too, but I couldn’t stay here after what happened between Brent and me.”

“I understand. Will you do me a favor?”

“What is it?”

“I want you to let me help you, and don’t say no. You’re in high school. And you don’t have a lot. You and Brent may not be together anymore, but I still consider you my son.”

She reached into her pocket and pulled out a bank envelope, and handed it to me.

“This is your. You spend in on what you want. I have already talked to Peter about your rent. I’m going to pay half.”

I opened the envelope and took out the money. There was 1500 dollars.

“I can’t take this. This is too much.”

“I don’t want to hear it. You don’t have a job or a way to get the things that you want. I want to help you out and you’re going to take it.”

“Yes ma’am. Thank you so much.” I stood up and gave her a hug.

We walked back into the house. I walked back to my old room and found that everything was already out. Peter was sitting out in the truck and Brent was sitting in the living room. I looked at him, and then walked out the door. The look on his face, told me that he wanted to say something but he didn’t.

I got in the truck and Peter drove us up to Nebraska Furniture Mart. I wasn’t sure what we needed to pick up from there. We pulled up to one of the loading zones. Peter got out and opened the back. Workers started loading pieces to a couch, what looked like a TV stand, a kitchen table set, and a 52 inch TV. I was in shock at how much all these people where loading into the back of the truck. I couldn’t believe that Peter had gotten all this stuff for me. He didn’t have to. He didn’t even have to help me get an apartment, let alone pay half my rent. I don’t know how I will ever repay him for everything he has done for me.

After everything was loaded in the truck, we drove back to Glenwood so we could start moving everything into the apartment. The drive seemed to take forever. I wanted to be there so bad. I was ready to have a place to live again. I was ready to have some place where I could feel safe, and some where I could call my own.

When we arrived at the apartment, Peter handed me the keys. I ran up to my door and went inside. It was bigger than I thought it was going to be. I almost started crying as I stood in the living room. I went back outside and started unloading things from the trailer.

After a while, I noticed someone was watching me from the apartment that was right across the hall from mine. From what I could see, he was cute. He looked about my age. I just hoped that I was reading his face right. He looked like he wanted to get to know me better.  I hope that before we get unloading everything, he comes out and introduces himself.

Ok everyone, I hope that you enjoyed the chapter.
