Well, most of it is, anyway. If you aren't interested in reading sexually explicit love stories about high school boys, then you can stop right now. But if you ARE interested, then read on. As I mentioned before, this is my attempt at a romantic story. Just a little spooky treat for Halloween. It's going to take a few chapters before things start heating up. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin. Jonathan Casts a Spell Chapter 2 Alex was sitting in the passenger seat as Jonathan drove them through a long winding road through the woods. Jonathan smiled at him. "I want to thank you for joining me on this little adventure, Alex. I don't know too many other guys who would be brave enough to do this kind of thing with me." "Nothing really scary about it," Alex shrugged. "The place is just abandoned, right?" The truth was that Alex really was a little frightened about joining the boy from the new age bookstore on a ghost hunt. "Well, yeah. But it's still pretty sinister. You can really feel the negative energy around that place. I'm glad you agreed to come out with me. I wouldn't want to go there alone." Alex began to notice that Jonathan's distinctive scent permeated the interior of the car. It was the same mixture of musky boy fragrance and whatever cologne or essential oil that Alex had first smelled on Jonathan when they standing very close together in the bookshop. It was a scent that Alex found very enticing. As Jonathan was driving, Alex slowly leaned to his left so he could smell Jonathan a little better. What am I doing? Alex wondered. Why do I want to smell this stinky boy and his weird cologne, anyway? Then Alex realized what it was – the boy must have been wearing some sort of magic perfume! Some sort of scent that was designed to arouse sexual desire – or maybe there were even pheromones mixed in! That was why the girls at the bookstore kept flocking to Jonathan! It also must have been why Alex found the boy's scent so – irresistible! It must have been some pretty potent stuff if it worked on guys as well as girls! "Hey Jonathan?" "Yeah?" "Uh, I was wondering," he asked awkwardly, "what kind of cologne are you wearing? It smells really good. Cuz I'd like to get some myself." Jonathan smiled. "It's my secret recipe. I invented it myself. It's made from natural essential oils from the bookstore." "It smells really sexy. I mean, uh, the girls probably think it's really sexy." "Think you can guess what I put in it? It's okay, you can get a little closer. Take a sniff and see if you can tell me what's in the magic potion." Cautiously, Alex leaned over as far as the safety belt would allow and began to sniff Jonathan's neck and shoulders. "Ummm, let me guess, patchouli?" "There's a little patchouli in there, but it's not the main component. What else can you smell?" Alex found himself straining against the safety belt to get closer to Jonathan. He also found himself placing his right hand in his lap to hide his erection. "Um, I don't know. I mean, it's blended really well. I can't really tell what's in it." "Well, so far you've got a good nose! You picked out the patchouli. I'll give you a hint. The base is ambergris." "I don't know what ambergris is." Alex inhaled more deeply, smelling as much of Jonathan as he could. "Mmmm, maybe lavender? It's really nice." The more time Alex spent sniffing Jonathan, the more aroused he became. Gosh, this is embarrassing, he thought. He wished his erection would go down. He didn't want Jonathan to think he was getting turned-on from the cologne! "You want me to mix you up a batch?" "Yeah, that would be really cool." "Oh look, we're almost there." Jonathan had turned off a side road and after a minute they came to a wide open clearing. In the clearing were five very old stone buildings. Their windows and doors were boarded up. The grass around the buildings was yellowed and overgrown. It looked like a very lonely, desolate place. Jonathan pulled up in front of the largest building and parked the car. There was a demolished sign in front of the building. Alex could barely make out the words WESTGATE ORPHANAGE on the sign. The boys got out of the car. Even though it was a sunny autumn day, a chill ran through Alex's bones as he surveyed the abandoned orphanage. "It's really sad," Jonathan said, "to think about all those poor kids who had to live here." "Yeah," Alex agreed, looking around at the scene. They really were in the middle of nowhere. "It's like they wanted a place to just dump those kids and forget about them." Jonathan took the Ouija board out of the back seat and the boys began to walk through the grounds. They headed towards one of the smaller buildings near the edge of the woods. All of a sudden, a ghost hunt seemed like a really bad idea to Alex. He desperately wanted to go home, but he didn't want Jonathan to think that he was frightened. He didn't want the older boy to laugh at him and think he was a chicken. "We should definitely be able to pick up some vibrations here, maybe even get some sort of communication through the Ouija board," Jonathan said. Then he pointed to an empty field near the smaller building. "That area over there is filled with unmarked graves. A lot of the kids are buried back there," Jonathan added. Alex felt his blood run cold. The words BOYS DORMITORY were carved over the small building that Jonathan was heading towards. "This building's the easiest to get into; cuz the board on the basement window is already torn off," Jonathan explained. Alex followed Jonathan around the back of the building until they got to the basement window. "You hold the Ouija board while I climb in," Jonathan said. Alex took the Ouija board and watched as Jonathan climbed into the basement window and jumped several feet down to the floor. Alex cautiously peered into the darkness before he handed the Ouija board to Jonathan. The room that Jonathan had climbed into was some sort of a storeroom. Alex could see storage boxes filled with files. Some previous explorers had torn some of the boxes open and scattered the files all over the floor. Alex could also see some old black and white photographs of the orphans scattered on the floor as well. The photos looked like mug shots. Alex and scraped his wrist on the edge of the window when he climbed through. "Ouch!" Jonathan took the boy's hand and inspected the injury. "Are you ok?" he asked. There was a look of concern in Jonathan's eyes as he held the boy's hand in his. "Yeah, I'm ok. Just hurts, that's all. But it looks worse than it feels." "I have a clean handkerchief. Let me bandage it up for you." Jonathan took a little bottle of hand sanitizer out of his pocket and cleaned the wound for Alex. The alcohol stung a bit, but Alex tried not to grimace. Then Jonathan carefully bandaged the boy's wrist. Alex looked at Jonathan. "Are you sure you want to do this? The séance, I mean." "Yeah, let's do it. That is, if you're feeling up to it. We came all this way. Let's try a little séance with the Ouija board. From all the reports I've read the most haunted place is the playroom. Let's do it there. Follow me." Alex followed Jonathan through the mazelike darkness of the boarded-up dormitory. Eventually they found the playroom on the second floor. The room seemed very cold. Alex looked around nervously. The walls were decorated with a mural that was faded and peeling. It probably had been painted by the orphans who had once lived there. It was a positively terrifying scene of elves and leprechauns frolicking in a field. The leprechauns and elves in the mural looked rather demented. There was a child-sized rocking chair in one corner of the room. It was a very lonely place. Alex had seen a few TV shows about the paranormal, and he remembered that the ghost investigators always talked about cold spots. For the first time, Alex understood what they were talking about. He did feel the temperature drop when they entered the room. He also found it very hard to convince himself that he was not being watched. He knew he did not want to be in that room for any longer than he had to be. Jonathan pulled the Ouija board out of his backpack and set it on the floor between them. He placed the planchette in the center of the board. Jonathan sat down on the floor and gently placed his fingers on one side of the planchette. Alex did the same on the other side, being especially careful about the bandage on his wrist. "Okay. Is anybody here in this room with us?" Jonathan asked in a soft, yet commanding voice. Slowly, the planchette began to move underneath their fingers, seemingly on its own accord. Jonathan read aloud the letters it spelled out. "M-I-L-O. Milo. Hello, Milo. Are you an orphan? I mean, were you an orphan?" The planchette spelled out another word. The boys read the letters aloud together. "T-R-I-C-K-S-T-E-R." "Trickster? Okay, you're a trickster. But can we trust you?" The planchette moved to the word YES. "Okay, Alex, you go first. Ask Milo the Trickster your question." "Do I have to say it aloud? It's kind of a private question." "Just ask it silently then." Alex silently asked `Milo' whether his love spell would work on Katie MacMillan. The planchette quickly slid over to the word NO. Alex looked disappointed. "Ask it another question, Alex. Try to be more specific." Alex silently asked `Milo' if he was going to have a girlfriend before he graduated high school. Once again, the planchette slid over the word NO. Alex frowned, beginning to perspire. It was cold in the room, but he was starting to feel feverish. He silently asked `Milo' if he would ever find true love. The planchette hesitated a moment, and then slowly crawled over to the word YES. Alex felt a little relieved. Alex silently asked `Milo' who he was going to fall in love with. The planchette moved away from the word yes, and then spelled out a word. Alex read the letters aloud. "B-O-Y." Alex started to sweat even more. This was NOT the answer he wanted to hear! "But I'm not gay!" Alex shouted aloud at `Milo'. Shit! Alex thought. Now Jonathan knew exactly what he had been asking the Ouija board! Well, the cat was out of the bag. Alex figured it didn't matter anymore if he continued his questions silently or aloud. "Are you sure that's right?" YES. "Uh, well, do I know who it is? Who the boy I'm gonna fall in love with is?" The planchette stayed on the word YES. It wouldn't budge. "What's his name, then?" At that point, the planchette slid out from under the boys' fingers and shot across the room like a hockey puck. Alex jumped up and yelped with fright. Even Jonathan was looking a very shaken up. Alex was now cowering in the corner near the wall with the freakish mural. He was shivering. "Jonathan, I wanna go home! This isn't any fun anymore." "Calm down, Alex. Relax." "You moved it, didn't you? You knew what I was asking and you moved the thing!" "I didn't move anything, Alex! I had no idea what you were asking the Ouija board! That was between you and Milo!" He realized that Jonathan was right. He had been asking the questions silently and there was no way Jonathan could know what he was thinking. That was, unless Jonathan just made a lucky guess. Or was a mind reader. "You sure you didn't move it?" "What do YOU think?" Alex looked out at the room from the corner he was hiding in. He had to admit that he really did feel some sort of presence in the room. It was an awful feeling. The hair on the back of his neck was standing on end, and he felt as though he was being watched. Then he looked at Jonathan. He could tell from the boy's sincere expression that he had not moved the planchette at all. Well, not consciously, at least. He could also tell that Jonathan was almost as frightened as he was. "Jonathan, I'm scared now! I'm really, really scared!" "It's okay, Alex. I'm with you. I'm not gonna let anything bad happen to you. Let's get out of here." "Jonathan?" "Yeah, Alex?" "I want you to hold me. I want you to hold me right now. I want you to hold me really tight and I don't want you to let go!" Jonathan approached the shivering boy in the corner and put his arms around him. Alex clung to the older boy, holding on for dear life. Jonathan's protective embrace was one of the most comforting feelings Alex had ever experienced. He hid his face in Jonathan's soft, warm sweatshirt. He could smell Jonathan's intoxicating scent more strongly than ever. The two boys held onto each other for a very long time until they finally had the courage to make their way back through the basement and back out the way they came in.
