Chapter 26

The news that Jake and Luke had reconciled came as a great relief not
only to their friends, Ahmad, and Mike, but also to Scott, Jake's dad.
Before his son had left to collect his results and share them with the
others, the older American suggested that, if, as expected the results
were very good, perhaps they should celebrate with a barbeque at their

anxious to make friends with them. Just as the dog was about to lick
Mike's face, its owner, a man in his forties, appeared at the edge of
the clearing, somewhat out of breath. After a second, the man shouted,

`Sit, Prancer! Oh, hello, I'm sorry about my dog! He's not dangerous
but he's young and loves company but he means no harm.'

Luke replied on behalf of his friends,

`No worries. He's not doing any harm.'

The dog's tail was wagging furiously and each of the boys gave it a
friendly stroke as he they got up and prepared to leave.

When they were out of hearing, Mike told the others that the owner was a
new occupant of one of the houses in the road and added that he was
disappointed that their hideout had been discovered. Jake agreed and
added that if they continued to use it, they would have to be more
careful in the future. When they reached the gate to Jake's house, the
group hugged each other and then parted. Sam needed to get back as he,
like Jake, had work in the morning. Although Mike was free then, he said
that he had no desire to join Luke at either his physiotherapy or
training sessions, but the two friends agreed to meet once he had
finished and see if Ahmad was available to hang out in town with them.
Hopefully, Jake would join them after he returned from his first day at
work.
