After hobbling from the living room to the bedroom, and turning on the ceiling light, Jeremy said in a dejected voice, "I guess I need to wear this boot to bed, too." While balancing on his good leg, he leaned the crutches against the wall. "Damn, Liam ... after everything we enjoyed last night ... now, here I am, an invalid!" Feeling sorry for himself, again, he carefully sat on the edge of the bed. Liam chuckled. "Well, you won't be dancing for a while, that's for sure! But it's only for six weeks. Look at the bright side, Jem: at least, it's just your foot, and you're not in a full body cast, or anything." Jeremy halfway smiled; Liam was right, of course. Things could have been much worse for him. He could have been hit by a truck, while crossing the street. "Do they really put people in those things?" Liam shrugged his shoulders. "I've never known anybody who was in one ... bu-ut..." Liam chuckled. "Trying to cheer me up, huh?" "Okay; guilty as charged. Is it working?" Jeremy shrugged his shoulders. Smirking, as he unbuttoned his shirt, Liam decided to take a different tack. "Hey ... you didn't have to DO anything in bed last night, but you still enjoyed it, didn't you?" "You know the answer to that!" Jeremy's face broke into a smile. `Finally!' Liam thought. "Well, I've still got the cuffs and straps..." "Yeah, I know; but I think we need to save those for special occasions." "Just saying..." Liam nodded his agreement. "Anyway, next time it'll be your turn to tie me up!" At the very thought of ceding all control to Jeremy, Liam's dick began to swell; suddenly, he was feeling very horny. "You know ... I can hardly wait!" "Me, either!" Jeremy exclaimed, smiling more broadly. With the help of his crutches, he stood again. He held out his arms for Liam. "Thanks for putting a smile on my face, Liam! I love you so very much, man." "Any time, Jem." Weaving his hands inside the crutches, Liam hugged his lover tightly; neither man wanted to let the other go. Finally, however, Liam gave Jeremy a sweet kiss. "Do you want me to help you get undressed?" Though he was pretty sure he could take care of disrobing without Liam's help, Jeremy replied, "Always." Jeremy sat on the bed again, and allowed Liam to take off his shirt and left shoe. With great interest, he watched, as Liam gently lifted the injured foot and carefully removed the large, clunky boot. Jeremy unbuttoned his jeans, and held his right foot off the floor, while Liam pulled the pants off. Both men took great care of the unprotected, broken foot. As soon as Jeremy was naked, Liam wrapped the boot around his foot again. Seemingly, it took several minutes to undress his lover, but Liam took off his own clothes in seconds. "Do you want to help me into the bathroom?" Jeremy asked, sheepishly. He felt foolish, asking for aid so he could take a dump. "Of course!" Liam extended his arm and helped Jeremy to his good foot. "Any time you need something, don't be ashamed to ask, okay?" "Thanks, Liam. It's just ... I'm not used to relying on someone else, this way." Leaning on the younger man's shoulder, Jeremy made it to the bathroom. Damn ... nothing was easy anymore! Given a little time, he was sure he'd work out a system that didn't require Liam helping him every step of the way. He sure hoped so, anyway! Slowly, he turned around and lowered himself onto the pot, while Liam looked on, ready to lend a hand, if needed. As Jeremy began to take care of business, Liam stepped to the sink and pulled his toothbrush from the holder. He glanced at Jeremy's reflection in the large mirror above the vanity. "Jem ... I think you did the right thing about Zach, earlier; letting him go nude around here, I mean." Jeremy chuckled. "I don't know; I hope so, anyway." He shook his head. "I already knew how sexy he was ... but, man, the way he's all shaved and smooth down there!" Liam opened the tube of Colgate and applied a dab to the brush. "That's for damn sure!" While he agreed that Zach's pubic area was amazing, he had been especially drawn to his tanned and taut, very fuckable, butt. "The bad thing is, there's no doubt Zach knows how hot he is." Jeremy shook his head again. "And how to use his looks to his advantage." "What teenager, with a body like Zach's, wouldn't?" Liam replied, with a question, before beginning to brush his teeth. "I guess." Jeremy pulled a couple lengths of toilet paper from the roll. After using them, he emptied his bladder into the china bowl. "I don't know, Liam; maybe I didn't do the right thing about Zach, after all. I mean, I don't have to worry, when my foot is like this. But, after I'm better, if he turns on all his charm ... well ... I just hope my willpower is strong enough to resist him." Liam had a few thoughts on that subject, ...and was trying to decide if this was the right time to share them with Jeremy ... when Jeremy flushed the toilet, held onto the wall, and stood. "Hey! I did something on my own!" "You SURE didn't expect me to help you poop, did you?" Grinning around the foamy toothbrush, Liam glanced into the mirror, again, and caught sight of Jeremy through the open door into the adjoining toilet and bathtub room. Jeremy laughed. "Not that; I meant I stood without your help OR the crutches." Smiling, and proud of what would have normally been a nonevent, he sprayed some air freshener into the small room. He thought about hopping to the sink, but decided not to chance it. After what the doctor had said, the last thing he needed was to misstep or lose his balance, and put weight on his foot. "Do you mind giving me a hand here?" Liam stopped brushing long enough to help Jeremy to the sink, where the older man washed his hands and brushed his teeth. A few minutes later, both men were back in the bedroom. While Jeremy lay down, Liam clicked off the light. "Sorry I'm not more fun to be around tonight, Liam; but right now I don't feel much like making love." "Don't worry so much, Jem!" Tongue-in-cheek, he continued, "I GUESS I understand." He hesitated a lot longer than necessary. When Jeremy didn't smile, right away, Liam added, "Just kidding." "You better be!" In the light that spilled through the window into the room, Liam leaned over and gave Jeremy a peck on the lips. "Hey, did you remember to let the school know you aren't going to be there tomorrow?" Jeremy shook his head. "I forgot all about it! Thanks for reminding me, Liam. Do you mind handing me my phone?" Liam switched on the room light and glanced around. "It must still be in the living room; I'll be right back with it." After turning on the hall light, Liam found the waist pack he'd worn earlier. Unzipping it, he walked back toward the bedroom, turning out the lights on his way. In the mostly dark bedroom, he handed the iPhone to Jem. "Here you are." He held onto the phone, until he was sure Jem had a secure hold on it. "Thanks; I've got it." Liam walked around the foot of the bed, closing the window ... which had been left open a crack ... and the Venetian blinds, as he passed by. He climbed into the far side of the bed and pulled the sheet and light blanket over both himself and Jeremy. After typing the email and sending it, Jeremy laid the phone on the bedside nightstand. The men were talking, when Liam started to feel sleepy. It had been a very eventful day! He rolled onto his side and kissed his boyfriend on the cheek. "I love you, Jem." Liam yawned. "Good night, and I hope you get a good night's sleep." "Thanks, Liam; I hope so, too." Jeremy chuckled, while turning his face to his lover. He wasn't ready to go to sleep yet. "Oh ... and thanks again for the amazing birthday: the gifts, the dancing, the lovemaking." Jeremy paused for a long moment, to let his words sink in. "What more could a guy ask for?" "I don't know; maybe a broken foot?" Both men laughed. "Well, I could do without that one. But it could have been a lot worse, I guess." Jeremy lifted himself up on one elbow, and thought for a moment. "I don't know if I ever told you, but I've always believed there's a purpose behind `most everything that happens." "Hunh-uh, you didn't; wow ... you really believe that kind of stuff?" "Yeah, most of the time, anyway." Jeremy lay back down. "I mean, not everything's good; that's for sure. And, most of the time, it's only with hindsight that you can see the reason behind it." In the darkness, Liam smiled. "I guess I just take everything as it comes ... look for the good and try to avoid the bad. I don't think there's any deep reason why shit happens; it just does." "I don't know. I guess you could be right, Liam; but I've got a couple of years on you. Probably, a few more things have happened to me." Jeremy thought for a second. "Sometimes I look back on all the shit I went through during the last years of my marriage, and then the divorce. Man, I was miserable back then. At the time, I blamed EVERYTHING bad that happened on my ex; but now I know it probably wasn't ALL her fault. I mean, I married her, knowing I was into guys ... but not willing, or able, to admit what that meant ... not to myself, or anyone else. But after the dust from the divorce settled, I was able to begin coming to grips with who I am. And then I found you ... that makes up for all the grief." Reflecting on everything, he took a breath. "Or take Shaun, for example ... I suppose I was an okay father, as a younger man ... but I'm much closer to him now than I ever was before." In the darkness, he looked at Liam. "What I'm trying to say is, there was a purpose in the divorce and everything. I see it now. Does that make any sense to you?" "I guess; maybe a little, anyway," Liam seemed to agree. "But what about your other two kids?" "Yeah. Well, I don't know what to say, when it comes to Sarah and Ashton. I hope you don't think I was trying to tell you I have all the answers. Heck, I don't even know, for sure, if I'm right in how I look at things." Reflecting on his children, Jeremy sighed deeply and was silent for a long moment. "I miss my younger kids a lot more than I let on." He paused for a moment. "At least, I'll get them for a couple of weeks over Christmas." He propped himself up on one elbow, again. "Hey ... you'll get to meet them, then." "That sounds awesome, Jem!" "I hope so, anyway. You've heard me talk to them on the phone, whenever they call, but they don't know the `new' me. I wonder how they will react to him?" "I predict they'll like him just fine," Liam replied, with assurance. "How could they not?" He thought back to their conversation in the bathroom, and snickered. "Well, Jem, if we've gotta look for the good in everything, I guess something good's come out of your broken foot ... at least, as far as Zach is concerned." "See ... what did I say?" Both men laughed. "Hey, I've gotta get some shuteye ... work tomorrow, you know." Yawning, Liam rolled onto his side and turned on the alarm clock. "Should I get you up, to go running with me in the morning?" "Yeah, right! I wish, anyway." Jeremy smiled. "Thanks, Liam. I don't know how you did it, but I'm feeling lots better about everything." "Any time, Jem. G`Night." "`Night, Liam." Liam rolled to face his lover and was out like a light. Jeremy, however, wasn't so lucky. Although he'd never been much of a back sleeper, he felt he didn't have much choice. He was afraid of doing more harm to his broken foot, by possibly turning it awkwardly in his sleep, if he tried sleeping on his side ... his preferred position. Finally, he dozed off, but slept fitfully all night; at least his foot barely pained him. By the time morning rolled around, however, he was finally sound asleep, and didn't hear the radio alarm. Both Shaun and Liam tried to be quiet, as they showered and dressed. And Jeremy was still sleeping, when they left home for school and work. As they were heading down the stairs, Shaun reminded Liam that he planned to spend the night on the farm with Zach. The sun was just peeking over the horizon, and in the early light of that mid-October morning, Liam's breath plumed out. "I guess we'll see you on Saturday, then?" As Shaun dropped his skateboard onto the sidewalk at the base of the stairs, he replied, "You bet!" Smiling, he added, "In the afternoon, I think." "Cool! You guys have fun! Hey, are you sure you don't want a ride to school this morning?" He blew into his hands. "It's cold out here!" This would be Liam's first winter away from the warmth of southern California. Already, he was having a hard time coping ... until the sun was high in the sky, anyway. "No, but thanks for asking, Liam ... and you don't have to worry about the two of us having fun." Shaun laughed, as he kicked off and began to roll away. Turning his head around, he added, "See you later." "Bye, Shaun." Liam watched the slim teen's backside for a few moments, as he headed to his car. Shaking his head, he smiled. Jeremy woke up a couple of hours after Shaun and Liam parted ways. After glancing at the clock, and deciding the others had already gone, he lay in bed for a few minutes, enjoying the silence. With all the trouble he'd had falling asleep, he found it pleasantly strange that he'd slept through both the alarm and Liam's usual morning noises. If it wasn't for the broken foot, he was sure he'd have really enjoyed the peace and quiet of a weekday home alone. Throwing back the covers and sitting up in bed, he glanced disparagingly at the plastic boot. Normally, he would have showered, first thing in he morning; but he decided his body was clean enough to go without one on that Friday. He did need to pee, however. After carefully twisting his body, so he could sit on the edge of the bed, Jeremy reached for the crutches. Holding onto them for support, he slowly stood. For some reason ... maybe because he was on his own and didn't have Liam to lean on ... he found walking the few steps to the bathroom relatively easy ... for a man who still hadn't had his coffee, anyway! With the crutches under his arms, he let go his stream, then washed his face. Balancing on his good foot, he sprayed on clouds of deodorant. Maybe he couldn't shower ... and, since the boys were spending the night at the farm, he doubted if he would be around anyone until suppertime ... but he still didn't want to stink up the apartment with his body odor. After finishing up at the wash basin, he thought about putting on some clothes, but decided against it. Taking care not to put pressure on his armpits and irritate a nerve ... the way the young man at the doctor's office had directed ... Jeremy hobbled down the hall to the kitchen. On the TV tray, where he had eaten supper, either Liam or Shaun had laid out a simple breakfast: a banana, a breakfast bar, a couple of Thermos bottles, and two Ibuprofen. Jeremy hoped the larger Thermos was filled with steaming coffee! Smiling, he rounded the sofa and maneuvered himself onto it. After laying the crutches aside, and getting as comfortable as possible, he unscrewed the cup and stopper from the stainless steel Thermos. The heavenly aroma of steaming, freshly brewed coffee wafted out. `Just what I need this morning!' he thought, as he began to carefully pour himself a cup. He assumed, and was right, that the second, smaller vacuum bottle had milk in it. He poured a bit into the coffee and took a sip. The bitter taste was just what his taste buds needed! He savored the small cup of coffee, and, after pouring himself a second, he decided to switch on the TV. Jeremy couldn't remember the last time he had watched morning TV on a school day. He didn't even know what programs were on! After Liam's flatscreen TV came to life, Jeremy flipped through several channels, before settling on a version of the `Today Show'. He watched with mild interest, while munching on the granola bar and banana. He was still hungry, after eating the food that had been laid out for him, and decided to try fixing a bowl of cereal. Since there seemed to be more than enough milk leftover from his coffee, Jeremy figured he couldn't make TOO much of a mess bringing a bowl of dry cereal into the living room. Firmly planting the crutches on the floor in front of the couch, Jeremy supported himself on them while standing. Moments later, he was in the small kitchen, pouring a bowl of Special K. Right away, he discovered he couldn't carry the bowl, and use the crutches at the same time, without spilling the cereal. Because some people had to use crutches all the time, he was sure there must be a way to do it ... he just had to learn what it was. Rather than spending a lot of time on the problem, however, Jeremy decided to pour the cereal into a plastic food storage container, with a tight lid. After sealing the lid, he tossed it onto the couch, grabbed a spoon, and was enjoying the cereal, along with a third cup of coffee, a few minutes later. Because the doctor had been adamant that Jeremy keep the foot elevated through the weekend ... after brushing his teeth and bringing his school pack into the living room ... he spent most of the day lounging naked on the sofa. At least, he could get on the laptop, and didn't have to watch TV all the time! After a late lunch ... he found it was much easier to just fix the food on the kitchen countertop, and eat it while standing ... he logged onto the computer and worked on a couple of school projects. Sometime during the late afternoon, he closed the laptop and fell asleep on the couch. *** When school dismissed that Friday, Shaun and Zach were among the first students out of the building. While neither of them minded spending time in Mr. Carter's classroom after school ... in fact, Zach really enjoyed it ... they were both glad to get away from school on that beautiful autumn afternoon. The weather was sunny, but crisp ... perfect skateboarding weather ... and they both planned to take full advantage of it! A dozen and a half other guys arrived shortly after Zach and Shaun, and soon all of them were both practicing their skills and showing off for their friends. Shaun, who a couple of months earlier would have been ashamed to be seen on a skateboard, now fit right in. Though his skills still weren't all that good, quite a bit of Zach's confidence had rubbed off on him. When Shaun messed up, he just laughed it off ... and the others laughed along with him, not at him. Sometimes, they even offered helpful words of advice. For almost two hours, Zach and Shaun had a lot of fun, while working up quite a sweat! Shaun watched Zach do a series of five, smooth, frontside grabs in a row, each with a little more air than the one before it. As Zach rolled to a stop after the last one, Shaun asked, "Are you about ready to get outta here and head over to your house?" "Sure, I'm ready to go ... but I've been thinking: how about we spend the night at your place instead?" Shaun shrugged his shoulders. "Sounds good to me, Zach. But, this morning, I told Liam I'd be spending the night on the farm. After we get our backpacks, I guess I'd better send him a text and let him know we changed our minds." Companionably, he curled his arm around Zach's shoulder, shepherding him inside the Rec. Center building. In the changing room, they took their packs out of a locker. While Shaun sent a quick text to Liam, Zach sent a similar one to his mom. After taking a quick shower, they were on their way to the Carter apartment. *** With those words, I think I will end chapter 30. I hope everyone enjoyed reading it!
