Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2007 07:50:08 -0800 (PST) From: E Walk Subject: The Doctor Gets a Visitor Chapter 12 The Doctor Gets a Visitor Chapter 12 -- Money Talks We pulled up in front Mrs. Tillison's at exactly 1:45. The front door opened and Mrs. T., Aunt Cora and Drew came out. Jeff got out and helped Drew escort the ladies to my car. Drew and Jeff hopped in Jeff's car, and we drove to the bank. I pulled into the unloading zone. Jeff pulled in right behind me. Drew climbed out and helped the ladies out of the car and escorted them into the bank while Jeff and I went to park the cars. We found spaces around the corner and walked quickly back to the bank. We no sooner had entered than Hank met us, "Hi guys, right this way." We walked into a conference room and were shown to our seats, and Hank began, "Everyone, this is Randy Carmichael. He is handling Mrs. Tillison's and Doctor Wilson's accounts. He will personally be handling Jeff's accounts as of today as well as Aunt Cora's and Drew's accounts. Now I'll turn the meeting over to Randy. I'll just sit back and listen." Randy stood up, "You people certainly don't make for an easy Monday, but I think I have been able to pull everything together you will need and asked for." "First Mrs. Tillison, here is a statement of your financial holding as of ten o'clock this morning. You can study the details, but the bottom line is on the back page." Mrs. Tillison looked at the back page and looked at Hank, "Hank, have you had your head in the sand? You were a little low on your figures on Christmas Day weren't you?" He laughed, "I told you Randy was extremely capable." "Mr. Carmichael, I was in love with you before, but now I may be forced to make you marry me." Mrs. T. smiled. We all laughed except Drew who looked totally confused. "Ain't gonna happen Mom. You are already committed to Jeff." laughed Hank. "Thanks Randy." Mrs. Tillison said and then added, "I may have some more things for you to do before we leave." Randy turned to me, "Doctor Wilson, I have four statements for you. The first set is your investment account, the second is your trust fund, the third is your personal checking account and finally a copy of your business account. I'll let you study them while I talk to Jeff." "Fine." I said as I started to review the papers. I must have gotten a funny look on my face because Jeff asked, "Dad are you okay?" "Yes, but I am just a little surprised." Randy said, "Jeff, I understand you have a bank account back in Minneapolis. Do you know how much is in it?" "Actually sir, I have several accounts. I have a savings account, three CD's and a checking account. I am not really sure, but I think they are all registered to the same number just with different suffixes." Jeff answered. "Do you have that number with you?" Randy asked. "Yes sir, it is on my bank card." Jeff answered as he handed the card to Randy. Randy picked up the phone and said, "Miss Roberts, could you come into the conference room please?" Randy turned to Aunt Cora and Drew, "I would like both of you to sign these with your formal signature." He handed each of them a set of papers. As they were signing them, there was a knock on the door. A very attractive young lady came in and asked, "What can I do for you Mr. Carmichael?" Randy handed her Jeff's card, "Please contact Jeff's bank in Minneapolis and get the status of his three accounts: checking, savings and CD's. Jeff, you had better write your social security number on this paper in case Miss Roberts needs it." Jeff did as asked. "Sir, I should be back in 15 minutes." Miss Roberts left. Randy handed Drew two more sets of papers to sign, "Drew, these are for your checking account and bank card." "I don't have any money to put in a checking account Mr. Carmichael." Drew said defensively. Mrs. Tillison handed Drew a check and said, "Drew, this will start your account, and each month I will pay you five hundred dollars for the work you do around the house." Drew looked at the check, "Why would you give me a check for a thousand dollars when I am already living in your house for nothing?" Mrs. Tillison was so cool, "I am positive that you will be a remarkable young man if you follow your mentor's guidance." "Who's my mentor?" Drew looked confused. "Why Jeff of course." answered Aunt Cora. Jeff interjected, "I'll make up a contract for you, and if Drew doesn't live up to the agreement, then Mrs. Tillison will deduct the appropriate amount. Maybe we could do that Wednesday evening since tomorrow is going to be so busy. Is that okay with everyone?" Drew just looked at everyone with a look like what is going on? Miss Roberts knocked and entered. She handed Randy several sheets of paper. "Thank you Elena, could you open Mr. Washington's checking account and bring him some temporary checks?" "Drew as soon as you finishing signing that paperwork and endorse the check, Miss Roberts will get you your temporary checks." Randy said. Drew signed them and handed them to Miss Roberts. "Anything else sir?" she asked. "Yes, as soon as Jeff signs these papers, you can process his new checking account and order both of the gentlemen bank cards." Jeff signed the papers and handed them to Miss Roberts and she left. Jeff turned to Randy, "I don't have any money in the bank here so how can I open a checking account?" Randy laughed and handed Jeff a deposit slip and said, "We received your first deposit by transfer about an hour ago." Jeff looked at the deposit slip and froze. Mrs. Tillison asked "Jeff, are you okay?" Jeff said, "I knew my grandfather was sending me some money, but I had no idea how much. I am overwhelmed." He handed the deposit slip to her. She looked at it, "Nice." and gave the slip back to him, and he passed it to me. Randy had been studying the papers Miss Roberts had handed him and he said, "Mr. Wilson, I don't understand how you were able to do this as a teenager, but I am thoroughly impressed." He handed Jeff the statements from the different accounts and his bank card. Jeff looked at the statements, "This is about what I had figured. What do you recommend I do now Mr. Carmichael?" "I suggest we do nothing until your new bank card arrives, and then we can meet and discuss how we should proceed if that is okay with you." Miss Roberts returned and gave Drew and Jeff some temporary checks. Randy said, "You can use these until your personalized checks come in." "Now is there anything else I can do for any of you today?" Randy asked. "I will be available to meet with any of you whenever you would like." Drew looked apprehensive, "Even me sir?" "Absolutely Mr. Washington. If you ever have any questions about your accounts, please call me." I looked at Aunt Cora and Mrs. T., and they were both smiling. They obviously knew something I didn't. I picked up that Randy had said accounts. Randy shook our hands as we were leaving and told the guys, "We will have your new bank cards ready for you within a week." Hank walked us to the door, "I trust that everyone was satisfied with what Mr. Carmichael has done?" "Hank, you devil. You knew what was going to happen, but you didn't give me any clues. I think I will have to rewrite my will." Mrs. T. laughed. Hank shook our hands as we were getting ready to leave, but he gave Mrs. T. and Aunt Cora a hug and a kiss. Jeff picked up on that right away and asked, "Mr. Thompson, why are you discriminating between your male and female customers?" Hank didn't miss a beat. He came over and hugged Jeff, then Drew and finally me and said, "Thanks for coming gentlemen." "That's better Mr. Thompson. Just remember that male customers need as much attention as the female customers." Jeff reminded him. The people in the bank were watching and laughing. Mrs. T. turned to Jeff, "Jeff you don't miss anything do you?" We left and Jeff and Drew escorted the ladies to the loading zone while I got the car. When I pulled into the loading zone, the guys helped the ladies into the car, and then walked quickly to Jeff's car. We arrived at Mrs. T.'s house at the same time, and the guys helped the ladies into the house. When we got inside Mrs. Tillison asked, "Where are you going to shopping?" I answered, "I thought we would either go to Westroads or Oak View. We are taking Kenny Hendrix with us. I thought he might have a better idea where it would be best to go." "That sounds like a good idea. Here let me give you these so you can use them to pay for whatever Drew needs. If I were you, I would go to Westroads first then swing over to Oak View. These cards should handle wherever you go and don't be afraid to go overbopard. If anyone gives you a problem, tell them to call me." Mrs. Tillison ordered. Both Drew and Jeff looked surprised. Jeff looked at the clock, "Dad it is already 4:15, and we are supposed to pick Kenny up at 4:30. I am sorry Mrs. T. and Aunt Cora, but we need to leave if we are going to back before morning." Aunt Cora said, "Guys, go along. We will be fine. I can hardly wait to see what you come back with." As were going to our cars, we decided I would follow Jeff home. Jeff pulled into the garage and then climbed in front with me. When we pulled up at Hendrix house, Kenny came out, "Dad would like you come in for a minute if you have time." We went into the house. When we got in the house, Jeff introduced Drew to everyone. "Jack, I have five guys coming to work on your house in the morning with Kenny and me. I hope you will have all the work areas cleared so we get started on the construction right away. We should be able to get a really good start on all three areas." Mr. Hendrix announced. Jeff answered, "Sir, we will have those areas cleared, even if we have to give up our exercises, but I will still fix breakfast at 7:15." "Here are the plans for you to look at before morning to see if you want make any changes." Mr. Hendrix said. "Bill, they want to get going." Eva reminded him. "Okay guys, I'll see you in the morning. Kenny you better behave and here is some money." "Dad." said Kenney. Drew said, "It was nice to meet you." We went to the Camry. Jeff crawled in front with me, and the two young guys got in the back. How will the trip to Omaha go?
