Chapter 16 The drive to the prison was a quiet one. It took about six hours to get to the remote location, which meant an early wake up. Completely out of character, Charlie was the first one up and ready to go. He hadn't seen his mother in months and had been desperate for that day to come. However, the primary reason for the silence was that it had only been four days since the big blowout between Rick, his sons and Brenda. Rick hadn't seen his girlfriend during that time, though they spoke on the phone every night. Brenda still insisted that she had done nothing wrong and that Charlie had pushed her buttons. She did regret how she handled the situation, but even Rick had noticed that she wasn't sorry for the things she actually said, including the remarks about Charlie's weight. Billy was quiet because he didn't want to go. He and his mother hadn't been the same since she found out about his relationship with his birth father. Ronda was especially angry when Billy told her of his name change. It had only been in the last few visits that she stopped calling him "Kyle." Billy primarily went to make sure that his dad didn't start a fight with Charlie. He and Ry agreed to protect their baby brother as much as they could, since it seemed that Rick hadn't come to his senses regarding "the Bitch." Charlie sat in the backseat, his mind racing. He hadn't been the same since he kissed Justin the night Brenda yelled at him. He told the teen that he loved him...and then he kissed Justin on the lips...but things didn't stop there. Justin returned the kiss, which Charlie expected, but then Justin parted his lips a little, and Charlie felt Justin's tongue move between his own lips. Confused (and scared, when he was being honest with himself), Charlie froze, as Justin gently moved his tongue past Charlie's lips and between his teeth. He couldn't get over how weird it felt as Justin's tongue massaged his own. Not wanting to make a scene, he moved his tongue against Justin's. He had hoped it might have been enough for Justin, but it only encouraged him. Justin then began to rub his right hand over Charlie's naked back. He caressed Charlie from his shoulders to the elastic band of the boy's briefs. Charlie felt Justin's boner pressing against his groin and thighs. He clung to the stuffed animals between them, wondering when it was going to end. It wasn't until Charlie felt Justin's hand touch then hold his butt that Charlie made any kind of noise. He gave a small squeak at the sensation. Justin pulled his mouth away from the 9-year-old and asked, "Is everything okay?" Charlie didn't answer right away. His mind was all over the place trying to make sense of it all, while also trying to deny that it even happened. He ended up saying, "I guess." Justin seemed to come to his senses, as he got a good look at the predicament they were in. "I'm sorry," he said, with a note of shame in his voice. "I didn't mean to do that...this, I mean." "It's okay," Charlie said reflexively. Justin looked into Charlie's beautiful, brown eyes and said, "I really do love you, Charlie. I have for a long time. I know you don't feel that way about me, and that's okay. Maybe...I think...I should go sleep with Billy." Justin went to climb over Charlie to get out of the bed; however, Charlie said, "Please don't go. I don't want you to leave, please." He felt guilty and ashamed for making Justin feel bad; he didn't know why, though. Justin had been so sweet to him, and he decided that the kiss wasn't that bad. It was the least he could do given everything Justin had done for him. It's not like they did more than just kiss.... Charlie remembered Justin staying in the bed, pulling Charlie back into his arms, and they kissed some more before falling asleep, while Justin kept his hands at a respectable distance from Charlie's ass. The next day, Justin seemed normal and not any more affectionate than he had been before. Charlie wondered if he had dreamed it all, but not even he could live on that level of denial. It didn't help that Billy made jokes about Charlie "sleeping" with his boyfriend. He really needed to see his mom. They pulled into the visitor parking around 1pm. Everyone stretched and emptied their pockets. There was a long line and limited seating in the tiny lobby. The guards were never pleasant people. Billy remembered when he needed them to change his name in the system. The guard at the computer gave them an attitude about it, despite it being her job. One by one, the visitors were moved through a metal detector and then patted down. One of the male guards was especially "handsy" with Billy. He started to complain but was told to deal with it or leave. Rick promised to file a complaint to get his son to quiet down. Charlie walked into the large visiting room and almost cried. He saw his mother from across the room. Her smile was like the light he had been seeking in his world of darkness. It was hard for him to not run into her arms. "Hi, Baby," Ronda said, as Charlie gave her a quick hug. The prison frowned on most forms of affection, and hugs were very limited. "I miss you, Mommy," Charlie cried. "I know, Baby," she said, tearing up. "You've gotten so big!" "Hi, Mom," Billy said, as he hugged his mother. "Hey, Sweetie," Ronda said, hugging her eldest child. "You've grown, too." "Ry is taller," Charlie said as he took his seat across the small table from his mother. "Where is Ry? Still not coming?" Ronda asked Rick. Neither hugged, but only took their respective seats. "He's with Will," Rick said, aware that the topic might start a fight. Her first ex-husband was always a touchy subject. "Are you sure that's wise?" Ronda said flatly. "Yeah, Will isn't a threat to the boys, especially Ry, which you already know." "Can you two knock it off?" Charlie asked. "Sorry, Baby," Ronda said. They spent the first half of the visit getting caught up. Ronda had a job in the kitchens and was promoted to lead cook. "It's not a great job," she said, "but it does mean a little extra food at the end of the day. How have you been, Baby?" "I'm okay," Charlie said, though his voice betrayed his words. "What's wrong?" Ronda asked, first Charlie then her other son. "Dad's girlfriend," Billy said, knowing full well the hell it was going to raise later. "What about her?" She asked. Her words were terse and abrasive. Ronda's temper was infamous, in and out of prison. "It's nothing," Rick dismissed. Billy scoffed, so Rick added, "She and Charlie don't get along, and they had a fight on Wednesday." "About what?" Ronda demanded. Billy answered. "Charlie wanted his apple, and the Bitch said no." "Billy," Rick warned. "Don't start." "No, I want to hear this," Ronda said, staring daggers at her ex-husband. Billy recounted the entire event. Charlie sank in his seat, waiting for the explosion that was about to come. Ronda's eyes grew wide then menacing. "And we haven't seen her since," Billy concluded. "I would hope not," this mother said; her tone dripped with venom. "I'm handling it," Rick said, annoyed at being blindsided. "You're lucky I'm still in here," she said, leaving the threat hanging. Tired of the conversation already, Rick snapped and said, "Unless you want this visit to end right now, I suggest you change the subject." "Fine," Ronda said. She looked at her boys and said, "I wanted to save this as a surprise, but now seems to be as good of a time as any. I've qualified for minimum custody." Her excitement didn't seem to be shared among the small sea of confusion. She added, "It means that soon, I'll be at a minimum facility, and hopefully closer to Washington." "How much closer?" Charlie asked. "I'm not sure. I don't get to pick where I go, and there are only three minimum camps women can go to. There's a facility just outside of Washington, I'm hoping I could go to. There's one here and the other one is near Springfield." "I hope you can be at the one near us," Charlie said. The idea of his mom being practically next door made his heart happy. The rest of the visit was good. Everyone, but Rick, played some board games and enjoyed themselves. Just before leaving, Ronda said to Rick, "Next time, please bring Ry. I know he's not my son, but he is yours and our sons' brother. It would be nice to get to know him before I get out." "I'll think about it," Rick said, dismissively. Once they got to the truck, Billy said, "Dad--" "--Don't," Rick said, bitterly. "Just don't!" They got into the truck and Rick left as fast as he could. Charlie turned on his phone and saw that he had two messages: one from Ry and the other from Justin. Charlie checked the message from Ry, which wished him luck on the trip and that he'd call before bed to talk. Charlie's heart raced as he opened the message from Justin. "Hi," Justin said. "How was your visit?" "Good," Charlie replied. He was shocked at how fast Justin replied. "How's your mom?" Charlie didn't know what else to say, so he typed, "Good." Justin replied, "LOL. So everything is good?" "Yeah. Lol," Charlie sent. "That's good. ;)" Charlie couldn't help but smile at Justin being silly, but his smile quickly faded. "I miss you," Justin messaged. Charlie's stomach tightened. He didn't know how to respond. He missed Justin, too, but not in the way he thought Justin meant. "Do you miss me? :)" He didn't want to answer the question, but he didn't feel like he had any other option. "Yes," Charlie sent. "Good. Lol," Justin messaged, but Charlie no longer saw humor in the joke. "We're about to eat dinner," Charlie lied. "OK," Justin said. "Message me later." "OK," Charlie sent, before powering off his phone, since he didn't know what else to do. ***Coming Soon, Chapter 17***
