Chapter 22 Rick took Charlie to school every day of his suspension. He met with Mr. Caldwell and asked about how Charlie was coping with the isolation. Mr. Caldwell said that he didn't have any problems with Charlie and hoped that he wouldn't have any further issues with him. Charlie hated his suspension. He couldn't help but look at the clock, which only made his time go by slower. He considered not doing his work in protest, but his dad was still upset with him, though Rick did loosen the restrictions of Charlie's punishment at home, even promising to let David stay Friday night if Charlie kept himself in line. Around nine in the morning, Charlie felt his pocket vibrate. He looked around before taking out his phone. He wasn't supposed to have it, but after the boredom of the previous suspension, he wanted something to do after his class work. The office assistant was busy at her computer and Mr. Caldwell wasn't visible, so Charlie checked his messages; it was from Justin. "I hope you're doing okay," Justin typed. "I'm bored," Charlie responded. "Same. I miss you." "I miss you, too," Charlie messaged, which he meant sincerely. The night before, Justin stayed with Charlie after Rick left. The teen held him and told him how special he was. Charlie clung to him and cried. Billy had checked on them, and seemed putout that Justin wouldn't leave Charlie's side until the boy had calmed down. Billy reluctantly accepted the situation and made Justin promise to see him before Justin went home. Justin did kiss Charlie, but only on the cheek and forehead, while saying how much Charlie meant to him. Before Justin went to see Billy, Charlie kissed Justin on the lips and said, "I love you." Justin returned the kiss and said how much he loved Charlie. Justin messaged Charlie between classes, which made Charlie's day move a lot faster. It also helped that Justin assisted Charlie with his math work, even providing a few answers. As Charlie started to pack his belongings to go home, Justin sent another text, "Billy is taking Ry to his appointment. I'll be taking you home. Hope that's okay." Charlie smiled and replied, "Can't wait." Charlie's smile faded instantly as he went out to the bus area. He saw Jack and his friends near the bus. Jack had a black eye and his bottom lip was badly swollen. A few of Jack's friends also had some bruising and scratches, but nothing like Jack. The boys looked at him, whispered to themselves and started to walk his way. Charlie dropped his backpack and stared them down. He was ready to fight, even if he got in trouble. "Jack Trapper, Dominic Jackson, Freddie Wilson, Travis Davies," called out Mrs. McGrady, "Get back in your line now, or I'm sending you to the Principal's Office!" Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the elderly woman walking away from the main entrance and towards the group headed Charlie's way, as Charlie picked up his bag. Their teacher stayed, making sure each boy got on the bus. Charlie was relieved to see that none of them took the bus with David, who waved at him. Charlie waved back and yelled, "My dad said you could stay Friday!" David gave a quick thumbs up and got on his bus. Mrs. McGrady waited with Charlie once all the buses left. They didn't say much to each other. She asked if Charlie had any questions about his assignments, and Charlie asked what he was actually missing in class. Neither mentioned his suspension or the fight on the bus. Justin pulled up just after three and opened the car door for Charlie. He said hello to Mrs. McGrady, who was his third grade teacher. They talked for a few minutes, as she had remembered him from all those years prior. Justin drove Charlie home. They were the only ones there, since Rick wasn't going to be home for at least another two hours, and Ry's appointment wasn't supposed to start till three-thirty. They went to Charlie's room and laid down on the bed. Charlie snuggled up to Justin, who kissed Charlie, after wrapping the redheaded boy in his arms. "I've been waiting all day for this," Justin said, kissing Charlie once more. "Same," Charlie said, kissing Justin back, then burying his face in the 17-year-old's chest. After a few minutes of cuddling and light kissing, Charlie said, "I hope you and Billy don't break up." "Why's that?" Justin asked. His body tensed up and his heart bag to race, unnoticed by Charlie. "Because, I'd never get to see you again," Charlie replied. The words had formed in his head, but the full impact wasn't felt until he said them. Justin was the only one who never lost faith in him, and the thought of losing him hurt deeply. "You'd see me again," Justin said, hugging Charlie tightly. "I promise." "I thought Ry and Billy wouldn't ever break up, too, but they did," Charlie said. He remembered the night his brothers ended their relationship, and how much they yelled and cried. Charlie was so convinced that Ry was going to move somewhere else, he ran from his room and nearly knocked Ry over, hugging and begging him not to leave. Justin paused for a minute, wondering if he should tell Charlie what he was thinking. Deciding to throw caution to the wind and to test Charlie's feelings, Justin said, "If Billy and I broke up...maybe you could be my new boyfriend?" Charlie was glad that his face was hidden in Justin's shirt. His eyes grew wide. Of all the things Justin could've said, he was not expecting those words. He went to say something, when he heard the front door slam open, causing him and Justin to jump. Justin got up and opened Charlie's bedroom door. Downstairs, the cranky voices of Charlie's brothers carried to the floor above. "Would you let it go?!" Ry yelled. "No!" Billy shouted, slamming the door behind him. "You owe me gas money, and I need it now!" "I don't owe you jack fucking shit, Billy! I'm sorry I got my days mixed up, but I'm not giving you money!" "Then you can walk your ass to your appointments from now on," Billy said, as he stomped up the stairs. He saw Justin and hugged his boyfriend. "I'm so glad you're here. Sometimes I wish I was an only child." "Thanks, dick," Charlie said, looking hurt. "Charlie, I--" Billy stammered, but Charlie pushed past him and went to check on his other brother. For the rest of the week, Charlie hardly said a word to Billy. After a lifetime of conflict, He finally thought they were getting along. Rick continued to take Charlie to school and Billy picked him up. When Billy came, Charlie would hardly say a word to his half-brother. Billy tried multiple times to apologize but gave up. Friday was Charlie's first day back in class, and he wished he had another day of suspension. Jack's face still looked bad, though some of the wounds were mostly healed, while his friends seemed fine. Megan refused to look in his direction, and her friends gave him dirty looks. The worst part, however, was Joey, who had returned on Wednesday. Both of his eyes were bruised and his nose looked swollen and had a splint over the bridge. Jack and most of his friends sat in the back, but Joey sat right next to Charlie. Charlie took his seat and felt the thick tension between them. Neither said a word to the other, but the bitterness and hostility was palpable. Mrs. McGrady kept her eyes on the pair, which made Charlie more nervous and stressed. David and Charlie sat at their usual table. David filled him in on everything that happened while he was gone. Jack tried to bully him but was caught by Mrs. McGrady who put him in detention. Vicky spread rumors about Charlie, claiming that he wasn't into girls and liked boys. Charlie scoffed, but he couldn't keep his mind away from kissing Justin. "And what about Joey?" Charlie asked. "What about me?" Joey said, taking a seat next to David. Charlie's eyes got big as he looked from his friend to their bully, as Joey gave David half of his fries in exchange for David's celery. "What?" Joey asked, biting into his hamburger. "When did this happen?" Charlie asked David. David explained that Jack and his friends tried to pick on him again after school but Joey stopped them. Joey said he was sorry for the way he acted and shouldn't have hit Charlie and David. He didn't give an explanation for why he did it. Charlie was reminded of when Will stood up to Joey's dad and wondered if that had anything to do with it. The three boys ate their lunch with an awkwardness between Joey and Charlie. During class, Charlie dropped his pencil. Joey picked it up and handed it to Charlie, who thanked him. At recess, all three sat together again and talked about movies and video games. Joey was a fan of fighting games and was interested in the fantasy game Charlie played. By the end, all three were even laughing at some dumb jokes Will liked to tell. When school ended for the weekend, the three new friends made their way to the buses. Charlie saw the big bag David was carrying. When asked about it, David said, a bit put out, "I thought I was staying the night with you." "Shit," Charlie said, looking to make sure he wasn't caught. He had forgotten what day it was, but since he hadn't gotten in any more trouble, he was going to make his dad honor their agreement. "You are. I forgot it was Friday already." David looked relieved but then sad as he looked at Joey. "It's okay," Joey said. "I wasn't invited, and I'm still grounded." "Next time?" Charlie asked. "Sure," Joey said, with a smile. "As long as you promise not to break my nose again." "Sorry about that" Charlie said, as guilt started to get at him. "Don't worry about it. At least I don't look like Jack." "True," Charlie conceded. Joey got on his bus, which was the same one that David usually took. Charlie and David waved as Joey went by. The pair talked about what they wanted to do while waiting for Billy, who came just after three. Billy didn't say anything the entire ride home, while Ry introduced himself to David. Ry helped the boys with their homework, while Billy got ready for his weekend at Will's. Billy came in to say goodbye, and Charlie gave his brother a hug. Billy hugged him back and said, "I honestly didn't mean what I said. I was just mad and frustrated." "I know," Charlie said. As he was about to sit back down, Charlie looked out of the kitchen window and saw Justin pull into the driveway. Charlie jumped up and hastily made his way past Billy and out to greet Justin. Charlie flung his arms around his brother's boyfriend and squeezed. "What's this for?" Justin asked. "I missed you," Charlie said. "I missed you, too," Justin said, lowering his voice, so Billy wouldn't hear him, as Billy was walking towards them. "Why are you in such a huggy mood?" Billy asked Charlie, as he loaded his bags into Justin's car. "I don't know," Charlie said, shrugging his shoulders. "I just am." "You're such a dork," Billy said. "Be good for Dad, alright?" "What about Ry?" Charlie asked. "I don't care if you're good for him or not, but Dad has been under a lot of stress at work. The last thing he or any of us needs is another fight." "I understand," Charlie said, hugging Billy one last time. Billy called him a weirdo but hugged him back. Charlie went back inside and sat next to David, who was staring out of the window at Billy and Justin. He looked shocked and confused. Charlie followed his best friend's gaze and saw Billy and Justin kissing. Charlie asked David if something was wrong. "Your brother is kissing another boy," David said. "Yeah, that's his boyfriend," Charlie said, dismissively, finishing up his last math problem. "Boyfriend?" David asked, turning his attention away from the window. "Yeah. They've been dating for like a year or something like that." "But, they're boys." "Uh, yeah. I know." Ry chuckled and said to David, "Didn't Charlie tell you that Billy is gay?" David's eyes got huge and shook his head. Ry laughed and asked a few more questions. David's dad told his son that being gay was bad and evil, and that all gays were going to Hell for sinning. Ry explained that it wasn't true and that there was nothing wrong with gay people. He didn't out himself as bisexual, however, feeling that this small boy's brain was already on the edge of exploding. It took a little more convincing, but David eventually let the subject go. Rick came home shortly after Billy left. At first he was angry, but once he was reminded of his deal with Charlie, he changed his tone and attitude. Rick ordered a couple pizzas and let the boys watch whatever movies they wanted, so long as they weren't scary. David was under strict instructions to not watch any movie that wasn't rated-G. Unfortunately, Rick got rid of those movies shortly after moving to Washington. Instead, David and Charlie went to Charlie's room and played video games. Never having really played any games, David wasn't very good at the ones Charlie had and grew bored. There was a knock on the door, and Ry poked his head in. "How's everything going?" He saw Charlie playing his game, while David was on the bed reading a comic. Charlie gave his brother a pleading look that clearly said, "Help!" Ry winked at his baby brother and asked Charlie to help him with something. Charlie followed Ry into his room and helped bring a stack of books, dice and paper back into Charlie's room. Even though Ry hadn't played since just after the move, he was able to help the boys make characters for a dungeon crawl game. Charlie played a warrior while David played an arcane spellcaster. Ry made a few non-player characters to travel with them, including a thief and a healer. Ry didn't take the game seriously, figuring it was going to be a one time thing, so he let Charlie and David do whatever they wanted. It was a rough start, but after a couple of hours, both boys were enthralled, especially David, who wanted to make up his own language for his spoken spells. Charlie's dice rolls weren't very good, so it became a running joke that despite his strength, he couldn't do any damage. It was just after midnight, when Rick knocked on the door and told them all to go to bed. Everyone, including Ry, was disappointed that the session was ending, but he was feeling tired, as well. "What about cuddle time?" Charlie asked. David looked confused, as Ry said to his brother, "Not tonight. It's late and you've got your friend over." "Please!" Charlie begged. Ry looked at David then Charlie and said, "I'm not sure David would like it." "What is it?" David asked. Charlie explained their nightly, bedtime ritual. David looked a little uncomfortable with the idea of cuddling with two boys, especially when he hardly knew one of them, but Charlie managed to convince him. The two younger boys changed into their pajamas, while Ry situated himself in the middle of the bed. Charlie got into bed first, snuggling up to Ry. David was less sure and took his time. Ry put his arms around both boys and asked about their day. Charlie did most of the talking and explained everything that had happened with Joey. Ry was impressed that Joey came around. He was very happy that David wasn't bullied by Jack, whom he called an asshole, which made David giggle. "Alright. Bedtime," Ry said, kissing Charlie on the head and hugging both boys. He made Charlie help him to his room, while leaving his gaming books behind. "He's cute," Ry said, when he was certain they were out of earshot of David. "Who?" Charlie asked, confused. "Come on," Ry said, a little excited. "David, of course." Charlie still looked baffled, so frustrated, Ry asked, "That's the friend whom you've been kissing, right?" Charlie realized that he was getting caught in his white lie. He didn't want to lie about David, but he didn't want Ry to know about Justin either. Unable to think of any other alternative, Charlie said, "Yeah, but please don't say anything. He doesn't want anyone to know, since his dad would freak out." "Yeah, I can see that," Ry said, remembering the conversation from earlier. "I promise I won't say anything, but he's definitely cute, so don't screw it up if you two really like each other." "I won't," Charlie said, dismissively, looking beyond Ry to make sure David wasn't at his door. Charlie went to hug and kiss Ry good night as Ry went to do the same. "Sorry," the brothers said once more, after their lips met. They rushed to their rooms. Charlie wanted to make sure that David hadn't seen him kiss his brother, and Ry went to his room to take care of his frantically growing cock. ***Coming Soon, Chapter 23***
