Not in the actual assault but was behind Brain's motivation. That is why I called you down here. I was actually on the phone with Mrs. Johnston from CPS when you walked in. We are going to need her when we go to pick up the other person involved. I'm just waiting for a call back from the judge's office so I can pick up the signed arrest warrant." I just stared at Det. Smith in puzzlement not sure why Mrs. Johnston from CPS would need to be there as we picked up this other person. I was totally confused at the moment. ********** Chapter 30 ********** Det. Smith began to explain, "After Brian broke down he told me something that threw me for a loop. After I interviewed Brain I knew in my gut that he was the one that beat Sean but I could not figure out what his motive was for such a brutal beating. He has never been in any trouble with the law or the school. It just didn't fit. While I was talking with him at his parents house Brian slipped saying he made me do it. At first I thought ok this kid has some kind of voice in his head telling him brutally beat Sean. Mike, it was Colby's dad Dennis that got Brian to beat up Sean. Dennis actually contacted Brain and with an offer of cash he convinced Brain into attaching Sean. Dennis even helped Brain plan the whole attach." I just sat there in total disbelief. I couldn't believe it. I knew Dennis didn't approve of Colby's and Sean's relationship and was having a hard time coming to terms with his only child being gay but I had no idea that he would be involved in a plot to hurt Sean. Det. Smith let all this information sink in for a moment before continuing, "Once I get the phone call from the judge's office I will call Mrs. Johnston and ask her to meet you and me at Colby's house. She's doing up the paperwork for Colby's removal now. I told her you and Steve would be happy to have Colby back. I hope I'm right." I just grunted a yes since I was still having a hard time believing what he was telling me. Det. Smith laughed a little, "I know this is a lot to take in right now. This Dennis thing has me scratching my head as well. After talking with Ms. Johnston she seemed to think that Dennis's wife will not take this well and may not be able to properly care for Colby so she believes it is in Colby's best interest to be removed from the house until the trial is over. Of course Dennis will post bond and will be back at the house in a day or two and that would not be a good environment for Colby to be in at all." I didn't have time to call Steve to let him know what was going on. Things were just moving too fast. I text him telling him I was stuck at work and would be home late. Once Det. Smith got the phone call from the judge's office we started for Colby's house. We met up with Ms. Johnston outside before we went up to the house. Det. Smith had a marked patrol unit meet us there to transport Dennis to the PD after he arrested him. Once we had Dennis out of the house Ms. Johnston would serve Colby's mom with the removal papers and then I could take Colby back to our house. I didn't think I should be the one standing there with Det. Smith when he arrested Dennis so I hung back with Ms. Johnston while Det. Smith and the patrol officer went to the door. Colby's mom was the one that answered the door. Det. Smith introduced himself and the patrol officer and asked if he could speak with Dennis. Colby's mom invited them both inside. Colby' mom walked them into the living room where Dennis was sitting. I stood just outside with Ms. Johnston and noticed the light was on in Colby's bed room and was just hoping that he was there in his bedroom. Det. Smith introduced himself to Dennis and had Dennis verify his full name for him. Dennis asked what the hell was going on. Det. Smith said in a very calm voice, "Dennis I need you to stand up, turn around and place your hands behind your back. I have a warrant for your arrest." Dennis looked dump founded for a moment but stood up saying, "Wait just one damn minute, I don't understand what the hell is going on here. How can you have a warrant for my arrest?" Det. Smith repeated his request, "I need you to turn around and place your hands behind your back. I have a warrant for your arrest for being an accessory to the assault on Sean Crispin." Dennis's face went white realizing he had been found out. Dennis looked over at Linda who was just standing their in shock watching her husband being arrested. Dennis said, "Linda call our lawyer and tell him to get his ass down to the police station. You understand?" Colby's mom started to get angry and then started to cry, sitting down in a nearby chair. Dennis turned around and placed his hands behind his back. The patrol officer placed him in handcuffs and escorted him out of the house. Colby walked out of his room just in time to see his father being escorted out of the house in handcuffs. Colby's mom just kept repeating she didn't understand what was going on. Colby stood in the hallway looking into the living room as Det. Smith tried to explain to Linda what was going on. Ms. Johnston and I walked into the house as Det. Smith started to explain what was going on to Colby's mom. Colby saw me and just looked at me with a questioning look on his face. I walked over to him and gave him a huge not saying a word. I knew he was listening to the explanation of what was going on from Det. Smith. When Colby heard Det. Smith say that hey had evidence that his own father had a part in Sean's assault I felt Colby's body start to shake. I hugged him a little tighter and leaned down to whisper that everything is going to be alright. Colby was trying to hold it together but he was having a hard time doing so. Det. Smith finished explaining the situation to Linda who was obviously in shock and was having a hard time understanding what had just happened. After Det. Smith finished Ms. Johnston explained that Colby was going to be removed from the house and would be staying with me for the foreseeable future. Linda just sat there in a daze. I took Colby back to his room and helped him pack his stuff. Before going back out to the living room I started explaining to Colby, "Det. Smith interviewed Brian and found out that your dad contacted Brian and convinced him to attack Sean in an attempt to break up your relationship. Ms. Johnston does not think it would be a good idea for you to stay here and wants you to come stay with us." I walked Colby out to the living room where he gave his mom a hug and told her he would call her the following day. Ms. Johnston had called a friend of Linda's to come over to stay with her for awhile since she seemed to be in total shock. Colby and I walked out to my patrol unit and headed home. When we walked in the house Steve and Sean were sitting at the breakfast bar talking while Aaron was helping Connor with his home work at the kitchen table. They were a little surprised to see Colby walk in with me and they all noticed the bag in Colby's hand. Colby set the bag down and walked over to Sean. Sean knew some thing was wrong and he jumped down off his chair taking Colby in his arms. Everyone else was silent just looking at Sean and Colby and then to me all with questioning looks on their faces. As Sean held Colby I started to explain what had happened earlier today, "Det. Smith called me today and told me that he interviewed Brain again last night. Brian has been arrested for assaulting Sean. Det. Smith also told me that Brian confessed to being paid to beat up Sean." Aaron had gotten up from the kitchen table and was walking over to Sean and Colby as he asked, "Who would have paid Brain to beat up Sean, and why?" I was standing right next to Sean and Colby and put my hand on Colby's shoulder as I answered, "It was Colby's dad that paid Brian to attack Sean in an attempt to break up their relationship. Det. Smith just arrested Colby's dad and Ms. Johnston believed it would be best if Colby lived with us for the foreseeable future. At least until Cobly's dads trial is over." Aaron moved over to Colby and Sean an put his arms around both boys. As Aaron was hugging the both of them, Colby just kept repeating, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry Sean, I'm sorry." Sean pulled Colby's head up so he could look him in the eyes. "Sean it is not your fault. You don't have anything to be sorry for. Come on lets put your stuff back in our room." Aaron reached down and picked up one of Colby's bags, Connor grabbed the other one and all four walked to Sean and now Colby's bedroom. Steve got up and gave me a hug saying, "Go get out of that uniform and get a shower. I'll make sure the boys are settled and then be in." Steve looked in on the boys to see if they needed anything. Steve told Aaron he was welcome to stay if he wanted to. The boys didn't have school the next day so we didn't have to worry about getting them up for school. Aaron and Connor were putting Colby's clothes away for him as Sean and Colby were cuddling on the bed. Steve told them we were going to bed and told them we would see them in the morning. When Steve got back to our bedroom I was already showered and in bed. Steve got ready and crawled into bed with me. Normally Steve would lay his head on my chest as we cuddled each night but tonight Steve pulled me over to him knowing it had been a hard day for me. Nothing was said, I just laid my head down on his chest and enjoyed the feel of Steve's arms holding me. It didn't take very long for me to fall sound asleep in my lovers arms. I don't think I moved all night long because I was in the same position when I woke up the next morning. Steve was still holding me in his arms. I laid there as long as I could, just enjoying the feeling of being safe in Steve's arms before my balder demanded on being emptied. After I finished my business in the bathroom I went out and started the coffee. With the coffee brewing I went to Sean's bedroom to check on the boys. I found Sean cuddled up against the backside of Colby with his broken arm in a cast draped over Colby's side in the bottom bunk and Aaron was on the top bunk with Connor cuddled up against Arron. They looked so content and peaceful as I stood there watching them sleep for a couple of minutes silently thanking God for bringing each of of them into my life.
