It's another of my "Marine" stories. Some guys wonder why I keep writing about Marines. Besides the fact that they epitomize masculinity to me, beyond the fact that they are just about the raunchiest guys I've ever known, there is another reason. These brave warriors are often the first defense against any enemy of my country and my way of life. Throughout the history of this country, the Marine Corps has produced more, oftentimes unsung, heros than any other fighting force. And I don't know about you, but contrary to Whitney Houston's song, my need for a hero has always been fulfilled by The Few, The Proud, The Marines. Semper Fi! I wish to acknowledge two people who's assistance with this story was invaluable. First of all, Kris, who is a great writer in her own right. And Second, but not least, a real Marine and a beautiful man - Rich, who will always be Jeff to me. MARINE HERO by RimPig (c) 2004 Chapter Twelve - Two Ships That Pass In The Night "You're Mike's Dad?!" Rusty exclaimed. "And you're Rusty?" Dad exclaimed. Then they both start laughing and moving towards each other until they were standing toe to toe. Then the laughter suddenly stopped and there was silence for just a moment before they were suddenly clutched in a tight embrace and a very deep, passionate kiss. Jeff and I just stood there, looking on, completely baffled at this turn of events. Finally the two older men came out of their clutch and just stood there, their arms around each other, grinning at each other like complete idiots! If I didn't know better, I'd swear they were in love! But, how the fuck was that possible and where the fuck did they know each other from?! "Uhh...Dad...uhh...Rusty...uhh...guys...you want to let us in on the secret?" I interrupted them. They seemed to come to themselves and noticed that they were in each other's arms. They both blushed, proving once again that it was possible for a Marine to blush, and broke apart before facing Jeff and me rather sheepishly. "Uhh...we've met before." Dad said. "That much was pretty obvious. Want to explain where and how?" I asked. "Not really." Dad said, blushing a deeper shade of scarlet. "Oh, come on, Mike. We can tell them part of it." Rusty kind of giggled. Yeah! That's what I said - 'giggled'. It was not a sound you'd expect from a man - especially a Marine - his size, but that's what it was, a nervous giggle. "Well...yeah...I suppose..." Dad stalled. "Okay. We met at a Marine Corps University seminar at Quantico about three years ago. Well...that is...we kind of met..." Rusty said, looking over at Dad and they both got redder in the face. "What do you mean - 'kind of met'?" Jeff asked. "Well...you see...we were in this seminar with about a hundred other Marine non-coms and we kind of spotted each other." Dad said. "Oh, the old 'Some Enchanted Evening' bit!" I laughed. Dad and Rusty both looked at me funny. "It's a song - from Rogers and Hammerstein's 'South Pacific'. You've never heard of it?" I asked. They both shook their heads 'no'. "Well, anyway, there's this song called 'Some Enchanted Evening' with a line in it about seeing 'a stranger, across a crowded room' and falling in love." I said. Dad and Rusty looked at each other quizzically and started laughing again. "Well...I wouldn't call it love!" Rusty exclaimed. "Nah!" Dad said. "Pure lust is what I'd call it!" "Yeah! We ended up doing each other in a broom closet!" Rusty laughed. "Shh! You weren't supposed to tell them that part!" Dad said, laughing. "A broom closet!?" Jeff exclaimed. "Well...we couldn't find any place else! We were both rooming in barracks that were across the entire base from each other and we were only there for 72 hours! There was no chance to get off base!" Rusty explained. "Yeah. We never got each other's name or nothin'! Not even where we were stationed!" Dad explained. "I guess you two were far too 'busy' even to exchange names!" I said, smirking. "Yeah. Actually we were!" Dad said and he and Rusty started laughing again. "Why to I get the feeling that a lot more went on in that broom closet than you're telling us?" I asked. "Whatever went on in that broom closet is none of your business!" Dad exclaimed. Jeff and I both started laughing at this. Seems we'd caught Dad in something that, for some reason, he wanted to keep very private. I wondered at this. "Okay, Dad. We'll let it go for now. Dinner's ready. Why don't we go in and sit down." All through dinner, I kept catching these looks between Dad and Rusty. It was obvious that there was a LOT of 'unfinished business' between them. I also got the feeling that, at least for that night, they only had 'eyes' for each other. But, because they both lived on base, I knew they were going to have a problem with getting together. Unfortunately, we only had a one bedroom apartment so it wasn't like we could offer them a room. Sometime during dinner, and I'm not sure when, by unspoken agreement, Dad and Rusty decided to 'go back to base' soon after dinner was over. They didn't fool me for a minute! I knew they weren't going to go anywhere near the base for a number of hours. What I figured they would head to was any one of a number of so-called 'No-Tell Motels' that existed for clandestine meetings and trysts between lovers, usually either not married to each other or of the same sex. At any rate, they left hurriedly and Jeff and I were left alone. "What the fuck was that all about?" Jeff asked when they'd gone. "What do you think that was all about?! They're heading for a motel, or I don't know my Dad!" I grinned. "You think?" he asked. "I KNOW!" I stated emphatically. "Didn't you catch the looks they were giving each other all the way through dinner?" "Well...I did, sorta. I didn't quite get what was going on." he said. "I didn't exactly either. Personally, I've got a feeling that something more than just sex is going on between them. I mean, how wonderful could a sexual encounter in a broom closet be?" I asked him. Jeff moved close and put his warm, strong arms around me. "Pretty wonderful, if it was you." he murmured and then kissed me. That almost caused me to lose my train of thought! "That's my point!" I said. "What is?" he asked looking down at me. "Well...the only way that encounter could have been that memorable for them is if more than sex was going on between them. If their emotions somehow got involved." I said. "It's always possible. But why didn't they follow up then. I mean, they didn't even know each other's names!" Jeff said. "I know. It is strange. But I know that I can get it out of Dad. In fact, I'm betting he calls tomorrow and wants to talk about it." I said. "You think?" Jeff asked. "He didn't seem much inclined to talk about it tonight." "No, but then you and Rusty were standing there. Dad's not likely to talk except one-on-one and usually only to me." I said. "Well, if you find out what's going on, let me know." Jeff grinned. "Well...you know, Marine, I'd be glad to do that for you - but it's gonna cost ya!" I grinned back. "Yeah? What's it gonna cost? Or did you want to take it out in 'trade'?" he said, leaning down and licking my neck. I groaned. "That's exactly what I had in mind!" I moaned, my arms going around his neck and his hand sliding down to cup my butt cheeks. The next thing I knew, he had me in his arms, off the floor and carrying me to the bedroom. He plopped me on the bed and 'had his way with me' (or mine with him) for the next couple of hours before we fell asleep, sweaty and exhausted, covered with each other's cum, in each other's arms. I was right. The next afternoon, I'd just gotten home from school when there was a knock at the door. I knew it was Dad just by the knock. He said he wanted to talk so I took him in the kitchen, gave him a beer and we sat down at the table. "So, what do you want to talk about, as if I didn't know already?" I asked. "Okay, smart-ass, what do I want to talk about?" he growled. "Rusty." I said. He was quiet for a few moments. "Yeah..." he said quietly. "He's not just a 'trick' for you, is he?" I asked. Dad looked up, surprise written all over his face. I guess he never knew how easily his emotions could be read by somebody who knew him. "No." he finally said. "So what really did happen at Quantico?" I asked. "Really just what I told you last night. We ended up getting it on in a broom closet. But somethin' happened in that broom closet. Somethin' that neither one of us expected, I guess." he said. "And you ran so fast and so hard that you didn't even learn his name." I said quietly. Again, he looked at me with shock. Shock like I'd just kicked him in the nuts. "Yeah. I did." he said, looking away. "You started to feel something for him. Something more than horniness. Something that was a quite a bit north of your balls, huh?" I asked. "Yeah. I did." he said. "So, did you go to a motel last night?" I smiled. "Yeah. That's just what we done." he said. "And did you two talk at all?" I asked. "Or did you just fuck each other's brains out again." "We tried to talk. At least he did. My tongue got all twisted in my mouth and I couldn't get nothin' to come out that made any sense." Dad said, miserably. "Did you tell him that you're in love with him?" I asked quietly. Dad hung his head, not able to look me in the eye. "No. I wanted to. I just couldn't bring myself to do it." he said and I could hear the anguish in his voice over it. "So what now?" I asked. "I don't know. I'm so fuckin' mixed up. I got so many feelin's goin' I don't know which end is up!" he said. "Okay...let's try and clarify what some of them are. You've fallen in love with Rusty, right?" I asked. "Yeah. Really hard to, I think." he said. "So what other feelings are there?" I asked. "Well, there's you and there's Jeff." he said. "Dad, that's not a problem. Jeff and I both love you very much. We also have some pretty strong feeling for Rusty, if you must know. We'd be happy to see you two together." I said. "You would?" he asked, surprised. "Of course we would!" I assured him. "Dad, all Jeff and I want is for you to be happy." He didn't say anything and I knew there was more to this then he was telling me. "Dad? What is it? What's really wrong?" I asked. He hesitated and finally started speaking, again without looking at me. "I gotta tell you, this is really fucked up! I feel like a selfish bastard!" he said. "Why?" I asked, confused. "Because I want my cake and eat it, too." he said. "What do you mean?" I asked, still not understanding what he was driving at. "I don't want to change what I've got with you and Jeff. I love both of you very much and I love when we get together." he said. "And you think that falling in love with Rusty is going to change that." I said, more a statement than a question. "Well...yeah! It's got to!" he said. "Why?" I asked. "Well...How's Rusty gonna feel about that?!" Dad exclaimed. "I don't know, Dad. Did you try asking him?" I said, somewhat exasperated. "No! Of course not! What am I gonna do? Say to him 'Look, I'm falling in love with you but I still want to fuck my son and his lover!'? Yeah! That will go over really well!" Dad said. "Dad...Jeff and I had sex with Rusty." I said quietly. "Yeah. I know you did. He told me." he said. "Dad, from what Rusty told us, he wants to have sex with us again. I know we want to with him. I really think it's him that you need to be talking to about all this." I said. "Yeah, I know. There's somethin' else I want to talk about though. I been thinkin' that if things work out between me and Rusty that...well...we really need to move off base. I ain't never had a reason to have my own place before, but we can't keep goin' to a motel. I got me thinkin' that maybe we could all get a place together. Say a two or three bedroom apartment. Somethin' nice. Split between us, it wouldn't cost much any more than what you guys are already payin' here. Do you think that Jeff would go for somethin' like that?" he asked. "Well...I don't know. I could ask him. But Dad...are you sure you'd want to do something like that? Are you sure you and Rusty wouldn't rather have your own place? I'm not sayin' that we wouldn't love having you both around but, again, I really think you and Rusty should talk about this. I'll talk to Jeff about it and let you know." I said. "Okay. That's all I really wanted. I just wanted to kind of feel you out about it." Dad said. "Oh, damn! And here I thought you were gonna 'feel me up'!" I laughed. "Damn, boy! You are one little horndog, ain'tcha?!" he laughed. "Honestly, Dad. You gotta talk to Rusty. Above all, you gotta tell him how you feel. If you're in love with him, you gotta tell him! Don't make the same mistake twice! You'll never be able to live with yourself is you do." I said. "I know. But it's still hard. I still feel like I'm cheating Bobby Lee 'cause I never said it to him." Dad said. "No, Dad. It wasn't Bobby Lee you cheated. I'm sure he knew exactly how you felt. It was yourself you cheated." I said quietly. He looked at me funny. "I never thought of it that way." he said, thoughtfully. "You go and think about it and then talk to Rusty. Okay?" I asked. "Yeah. Damn, boy! You really are smarter than your old man, you know that?" he said. "No, I'm not, Dad. I just know all to well what it is to live without love and then find it." I said. "Mike, you don't know how fuckin' sorry I am about that." Dad said, and I could hear the guilt and sadness in his voice. "Dad, it's wasn't your fault! I read your letters, remember? Every fucking one of them. You loved me. You wanted me. It wasn't your fault that you fucked the psycho-bitch of the Western World and her psycho-father!" I smiled. "I'm gonna spend the rest of my life makin' up to you for it, son." Dad said quietly. "Dad, you don't have to. Just having you in my life now is enough. You gotta stop carrying around all this fuckin' guilt or it's gonna kill you! You just go tell Rusty that you love him. I already know you love me!" I said. When he looked up at me this time, I could see tears glistening in his eyes. I reached over and put my arms around him and he put those strong, muscular arms of his around me. "I love you, Daddy. And don't you ever forget it." I whispered in his ear. He didn't say anything, just squeezed me so tight I almost passed out! Then he kissed me gently on the cheek and got up. "I better go have that talk with Rusty." Dad said quietly. "You do that. And I'll have a talk with Jeff when he gets home about your idea." I said. "Yeah. You do that, son." Dad said and he was off. Jeff came home in a little while and while we were having dinner, I brought up what Dad wanted to talk to me about. "Dad stopped by this afternoon, right before you got home." I said. "Well, you said he probably would. So, what's up?" he asked. "I was right. He's in love with Rusty. Seems that the little encounter in the broom closet brought out feelings in him that scared the shit out of him so he just ran. That's why he didn't know Rusty's name and why they never got together again. Oh, and they did go to a motel last night." I grinned. "Yeah! A couple of horndogs - just like us!" he laughed. "Yeah, just like us - they fell in love with each other in a motel room! But unlike us, Dad still hasn't told Rusty how he feels. I sent him off to do that." I said. "Good! It's about fuckin' time!" Jeff said. "Dad's got an idea though that he wanted me to talk to you about." I said. "What?" he asked. "Well, Dad says that if things work out between him and Rusty, they want to get a place together off base. Dad's thinking that maybe the four of us could get a place together - say two or three bedrooms. He says that it wouldn't cost us any more than we're paying here and we all could be in a nicer place." I told him. "I take it he hasn't talked to Rusty about this yet?" Jeff asked. "No, that's part of what I told him he needs to talk to him about. I told him that maybe Rusty will want a place of their own, where they can be alone together." I said. "Well, I'll tell you...I don't think so." Jeff said. "Why not?" I asked. "They're in love. It would be only natural for them to want to spend time alone." I said. "No. It wouldn't be natural. Not for them." Jeff said. "Why not, may I ask?" I just couldn't get what Jeff was driving at. "They're Marines." he said. "What the fuck does that have to do with it?" I asked, completely confused. "Babe, they're not only Marines - they're 'career' Marines. They've spent their whole lives in the Corps surrounded by other guys. You gotta figure they like it that way. Otherwise they would have moved off base long ago. It ain't nothin' for them to live around other guys. In fact, I don't think they'd be really comfortable without it." he said. "Really?" I asked. I really couldn't fathom this! "Yeah. Really." he said. "So we're just a 'platoon replacement'?" I asked. He laughed. "Well, I think it's a fuck of a lot more than that. I think your Dad still wants to the kind of relationship that we have with him to continue. Maybe grow even closer. And from what we talked about the other night after Rusty left, aren't we kinda feelin' the same thing - about both of them." he asked. "I told you that night that it wouldn't work. A 'four-way marriage'?! It can't work!" I said. "Why not?" he asked me, innocently. "Well...because...because...it just won't! Too many personalities, jealousy, stuff like that!" I insisted. "Babe...I think that's your head talkin', not your heart. We've talked about jealousy, remember?" he asked. Bowing my head, not looking at him, I answered quietly, "Yeah, I remember." "You love your Dad and so do I. I think we both have fallen for Rusty, right?" he asked quietly. "Yeah." I mumbled. "So why can't it work. Okay, it ain't normal. But we ain't exactly normal anyway - in case you ain't noticed!" he said and when I looked up, he was grinning at me. "You can say that again!" I grinned. "Besides, no matter what, it ain't gonna change the way I feel about you." he said, reaching over and taking my hand in his. "You know that it would never change the way I feel about you!" I insisted. "The way I see it, babe, the four of us already love each other, each in different ways but, love's love. We can love, support and fuck each other blind! Hell! We'll have our own built-in orgy!" he laughed. "Yeah! It would be that!" I admitted. "Let's just see what happens, okay?" he asked. "Okay." I said. "After all, we haven't heard from them, yet." he said. "Yeah. Who knows? Maybe Rusty won't like the idea." I said. "I kinda doubt that." Jeff said. And, as usual Jeff was right. Later that evening, Dad and Rusty showed up at our apartment. I answered the door and the first thing I knew, Rusty had me in his arms and kissing me hard on the mouth! "You are so fuckin' wonderful!" Rusty exclaimed. "What did I do?" I asked, completely confused by this show of affection and elation. "You did it! You got the Sphinx here to finally admit that he was in love with me!" Rusty said. "Well, congratulations!" Jeff said, coming to the door. "Guys! Will you get in here! We don't need the neighbors knowing all about the relationships that go on around here!" I said, ushering Rusty and Dad inside and closing the door. "Sorry! I just couldn't contain myself!" Rusty said. "Hello, Stud!" This addressed to Jeff who Rusty also kissed. "Okay, come on in the kitchen. Tell us all about it." I said, leading the way. I got beers for all of us. "He finally told me what happened to him at Quantico. I had been completely baffled. I mean, I know that a broom closet isn't exactly romantic, but it didn't seem to matter at the time! I knew I was falling for him the first day I saw him! And the way he made love to me, even in that broom closet, I knew that he was feelin' the same thing. But then it was like he vanished!" Rusty said. "Dad, did you tell him the whole story about Bobby Lee?" I asked. "Yes, son. I did. Rusty understood completely." Dad said and reached over and took Rusty's hand in his, looking at Rusty with such a look of love that you could spot it at a thousand yards! "Dad, Rusty, we couldn't be happier for you!" Jeff said. "Uhh...Jeff...Did Mike talk to you about my idea?" Dad asked. "Yeah, he did." Jeff replied. "So what do you think?" he asked. "I think it's a great idea!" Jeff exclaimed. "That's great!" Rusty exclaimed. "Mike told me about it and I just loved it! How do you feel about it?" This was addressed to me. "I had some misgivings about it at first but Jeff and I talked and I can honestly say that I think it's about the best idea that Dad's ever come up with. However, there is one big problem to the four of us living together." I said. "What's that?" Dad asked. "Well, unless you've forgotten, Sergeant, we have exactly the same name! It's gonna get awfully confusing when either Jeff or Rusty call for 'Mike'!" I grinned. "Hmm...yeah, son. I see your point. So what the fuck we gonna do about it?" he asked. "Well...I've been thinking about it and I happened to be reading one of your letters to me...you always addressed them to 'Mikey', so I guess that's what you would have called me, right?" I asked. "Yeah. But that was when you were a little boy, son." Dad said. "So aren't I still your 'little boy', Dad?" I grinned at him. "Yeah, son. You will always be my 'little boy'. You know that!" he smiled. "So, I don't mind being called Mikey. I never had a nickname growing up. Nobody cared enough to give me one." I said. "Well, it would help cut down on confusion." Rusty said. "If you don't mind, I sure don't mind calling you Mikey!" "What about you, lover?" I said to Jeff. "Babe, I don't care. Just so long as you 'cum' when I call you!" Jeff said and we all cracked up at this. "So when do we go apartment hunting?" Rusty asked. "I figure we can do that starting tomorrow." Dad said. "Now, you both are sure you really want to do this?" I asked. "Yes, we're sure, son. We've had a chance to talk about it. Maybe you and Jeff need to talk about it?" Dad asked. I looked over at Jeff. He looked at me questioningly and then shook his head. He didn't need to talk about it. Okay. I guess it's a 'go' then. "No, Dad, I guess we don't. Let's start looking!" I said. "Okay. We'll start tomorrow. I'll tell you what. You've got school and all, Rusty and I will look and we'll then have you and Jeff see what we've found. How about that?" Dad said. "That's probably best. It might be more difficult for me and Jeff. They're gonna see that we're young and maybe not want to rent to us. You two look more 'stable'." I grinned. "You mean 'older', don't you?" Rusty said, ruefully. "I didn't say that!" I said, grinning. "We got what you meant anyway!" Rusty said laughing. "So are you guys gonna stay awhile or do you have to get back to base?" I asked. "I've got to get back and so does Rusty. There's a party tonight at the Non-com club that we have to attend. One of the older Master Sergeants is retiring and we have to be there. Wish we could stay and play a while." Dad said. "It's okay. There certainly will be other nights. Especially when we're all living together." Jeff said. Dad and Rusty left soon after and Jeff looked at me. "Are you sure you're okay with this?" he asked me, putting his strong, muscular arms around me. "Yeah. It's just a little scary. The four of us, together - it's just kind of intimidating!" I said. "Okay, lemme ask you something. Do you love your Dad?" Jeff asked. "Of course I do!" I insisted. "And you like having sex with him alone and with me, don't you?" Jeff asked. "Yeah." I said. "And how do you feel about Rusty?" he asked. "I like him a lot and I think I could grow to love him a great deal." I said honestly. "And you like having sex with Rusty and me, right?" he asked. "Yeah." I answered. "So what's the problem?" he asked. "I just don't think a 'group marriage' can work." I said. "I don't want anybody hurt if it doesn't!" "Okay. I understand that. But let me ask you something...what if it isn't a 'group marriage'. What if we call it what it really is...a family?" he asked softly. That hit me like a runaway train! "A...a...family?" I asked? "Yeah. A family. You know, what you never had and always wanted. The four of us. A family of men." he said. That got me thinking. 'A family of men'! What a concept! Now that could work! And, after all, what was a family really - if it wasn't based solely on genetic ties? I was based on love and, certainly, the four of us loved each other - each in different ways. Different, as it should be because we were each different people - each different men. Yeah! That could work! "I never thought of it that way." I said quietly. "But I like it! A family could work!" Jeff grinned at me. "It's how I've thought of it from the beginning." he said, grinning. "And, after all, you know what 'they' say, don't you?" "No. What do 'they' say?" I asked, smiling back at him. "The family that plays together, stays together." he said with deceptive simplicity. If it hadn't been for the twinkle in his eye, I would never have caught the double entendre! But I did and we both ended up laughing our asses off as we headed to the bedroom where we would do our own 'playing' for a while.
