Blake's Saga

Book 4 – Chapter 5

Ben Comes To Terms

Ben hangs up the phone from talking with Blake. Right now he would rather be talking with Olive then to try talking sense to Blake. He's trying to remember that he loves his boyfriend but it's hard. Right now, he just wants to avoid Blake at all costs.

`If writing things out helps Blake maybe it will help me too.'

Ben grabs a piece of notebook paper and a pencil and start writing.

"I should have met with Blake before meeting up with Oliver but regardless of my actions, Blake had no reason to get all jealous over someone that I don't even like. Oliver is an ex for a reason. Maybe, my mom is right thought. I might have had my hands in this mess. I owe Blake an ear, I suppose."

Laying down the pen and paper, he closes his eyes and tried to relax. All the conversation with Blake did was rile him up. He finds himself getting angry all over again.

***

Blake was not ready to end their phone call, so he decided to call Ben back. He picks up the phone and gets ready to call his boyfriend. At the last moment, he pulls his finger away from the call icon. After all Ben was nothing but rude to him, so why bother calling him.

`He hates me.'

Blake really, truly believes that Ben no longer loves him. The truth is Ben doesn't hate him, he's just angry. He's mad at the way Blake handled the situation at the meet up and when he tried to patch things up.

`I need to stop putting all the blame on him.'

Blake is right, he shouldn't be putting all the blame on his boyfriend. Hopefully, they can fix this mess. Blake lays his phone down and goes back to bed.

***

Ben is on the phone with his ex; Blake's new nemesis.

"Hey Ben, sorry for causing problems with your boyfriend. I had no idea he was so sensitive."

This time, Ben doesn't hesitate when Oliver talks bad about his guy.

"Being sensitive isn't a problem Oliver, unless someone over does it, and Blake doesn't. On the other hand, it is a problem when the other person feels it's okay to take jabs at a person that they've already figured out is sensitive."

Oliver is guilty of doing just that with Blake and with Ben.

"Yeah okay, I took some jabs, but you didn't stop me. You didn't even stop me when I was flirting with you."

Truth is Ben ignored any attempt by his ex to flirt.

"I didn't your right dumb-butt and I should have. It might have spared me the trouble that I have now."

"What is his problem?"

Oliver says as he rolls his eyes.

"I was trying my best to ignore your pettiness, but I forgot to warn Blake about it."

Blake's problem is a combination of Oliver and Ben's blindness. Maybe now, that Ben's eyes are opening maybe, he can fix this problem.

"You didn't answer my question."

Oliver informs his ex.

"He is jealous and upset that I didn't stop your nonsense. I should have put you in your place."

Ben says loud and clear, and Oliver can tell that he means it. Ben is beginning to see his role in this wrench in his relationship. Ben wants to end this phone call. He wants to face the green-eyed monster in Blake. It's time to talk as long as Ben can contain his anger.

"I need to go Oliver."

He doesn't wait for his ex to end the call. The call is simply terminated.

***

Ben decides to call Blake out of frustration. He clicks on the Blake's name and hits the phone icon. All the phone does is ring and eventually it goes into voice-mail.

`What, now he's ignoring my phone calls?'

Blake's not ignoring Ben. He's asleep and the volume is turned down on his phone. The frustration he felt when he called has increased. It seems that Ben can't win. One second Ben is fine and the next Ben is back to being angry with his boyfriend. Ben knows there is one friend who will tell it like it is, and she'll tell him flat out.

***

He grabs his phone again. This time, he calls Ashley. He's already anticipating some anger from her which is understandable. After all Ashley is Blake's aunt so she'll be on her nephew's side, but it won't keep her from being vocal if he's right or wrong. All he can do is listen.

"Hi Ben, I'm surprised you didn't call me sooner. You do know that I heard what happened?"

Ben knew, she would know already. He needs to hear her wisdom.

"Look, I didn't call you to tell you what happened. I called because I'm confused."

She doesn't get it how Ben can say he's confused. The kid is gay no doubt about it.

"Confused about what?"

"I know that I was wrong, but every time I think about it, I get angry all over again, because I picture Blake and his jealously. I don't know what to do."

Instantly Ashley's mind is ready to tell her friend what she sees as the truth.

"Stop being a twit, you already know Blake is jealous, so now you have to do the right thing. Decide if you him or if it's time to set him free, because I don't want to see him hurting. You have to do the right thing."

He hates to admit it, but she is right. Eric doesn't deserve to be treated like this, Ben knows hew has to right by him, but he can't shake his anger. Ashley isn't done yet though.

"Do you love him?'

"Yeah, I do."

She is glad to hear that, he loves Blake."

"Then drop the victim act and make up with him already."

She makes it sound so simple.

"I can do it, I can get over my anger."

He's telling them that, so he can get pass the anger.

***

Blake wakes up around 11:45 am. He checks his phone and sees that Ben called while I he was sleeping. There wasn't a message but Blake goes ahead and calls Ben back.

"Blake, I was not expecting you to call."

Surprisingly, Ben doesn't sound upset.

"I wasn't sure that I was going to call."

Blake says trying to be honest. Ben isn't sure why Blake bothered to call then, if he truly isn't sure about calling. It's apparent though that Blake has something that he wants to say. Ben isn't sure what he wants to say at the moment.

"Guess, I just wanted to see what you wanted."

Blake says to Ben. Ben isn't sure that he's ready for that discussion at the moment though.

"Look, I don't want to talk about us right now."

Blake wants to get everything out in the open. It just doesn't add up for Blake. He is ready to try reconciling the pain away. Blake and Ben agree to let the call end.

***

Blake hates his life right now, and he decides to head downstairs. Trace and Ian are busy somewhere in the house, so they don't see him sitting in the living room. He kind of wishes that one of his dads would enter the room. It would be nice to share with someone how he is feeling. There is some fear in his heart that Ben will NOT come back around to him. The drama is wearing on him. This wall between them is going to be the end of him. Suddenly, his dads pass through the living room. Trace catches his son's eyes for a second and then he left his husband's side and sat with Eric. Trace thought that Eric wanted to talk, but there is nothing happening bit silence. Eric is happy to just have one of his dads there to show their support for him.

"Do you want to talk?"

Trace asks just to check on his son.

"Nah, I'm good. Thanks Dad."

Trace decides to wait for Blake to open up.

***

It's 12:15 pm. Both Ben and Blake have had nothing to eat since the lunch with Oliver. It's lunch time and they've been called to eat. Neither guy feels like eating, and they sit there merely picking at their food. Trace can see that Blake isn't going to eat, so he excuses Blake to return to his room. Meanwhile at Ben's house, Ben is finally eating. He doesn't have a huge appetite so his bites are on the small side. Still, he is eating. His mom can see that Ben is still weighed down by yesterday's events. Ben is suffering in much the same way, that Blake is hurting. They don't get that each other is hurting. Mrs. Hatcher wonders if Blake is having problems as well. Her son isn't saying how his boyfriend is doing so she is ready to take the matter into her own hands.

***

The phone rings at Blake's house and Ian answers it.

"Hello Ian speaking, how can I help you?"

For a second, it's quiet but then Mrs. Hatcher announces herself.

"Hello Ian, this is Mrs. Hatcher; Ben's mom."

"Hello Mrs. Hatcher, how are you?"

"I'm doing okay. I'm calling to check on Blake, how is he?"

Ian has always been thankful for the support that Mr. and Mrs. Hatcher have shown towards Blake. They feel the same way about Trace and Ian. Maybe knowing that she called will help ease Blake's depression.

"He's been in bed almost all day. He hasn't ate anything since the lunch yesterday."

She doesn't like hearing that, but Ben hasn't been that much better.

"Ben has been beside himself all day. He hasn't had much of an appetite."

Ian feels for Ben.

He wishes that the boys could see how in the long run none of this really matters.

"Do you think they still love each other?"

Ian asks even though he believes that they do despite their feelings.

"I know they do, otherwise they wouldn't be so mad at each other. I know Ben called Ashley to talk things over with her. I think he was hoping to sort things out in his head."

Ian can't deny his logic or Ben's logic for that matter Maybe, there is hope for Blake's heart afterall.

"I hope they figure it out sooner rather than later, because I am done with this attitude from my son."

Mrs. Hatcher misses her normally happy, go lucky teen. Ian is concerned about his son's well-being.

"I just want them to either get back together or move on but stay friends."

Ian wishes out loud.

"Ian, I think it's time to get our boys talking."

"So do I, how do we do that?"

Ben's mom thinks for a second or two then she speaks.

"We get them to see the light."

She says knowing that, she is going to do something and Ian will do the same thing with Blake.

"Okay well, we'll try getting through to Blake. Good luck with Ben, I hope his heart is open."

Ian says to Mrs. Hatcher hoping for good things to happen.

"Me too guess, I'll go try. Goodbye."

She ends the call. Ian doesn't go in search of Blake right away. Instead, he looks for Trace and he finds him in the room where the pets are located.

***

Ian wants to talk with his husband before any attempt is made to talk with Blake.

"So I just got off the phone with Ben's mom, and we agreed that the boys need to talk and decide what they want going forward rather it's staying together or breaking up. I want to do the talk together though."

Trace nods his head and closes the tank that he was working in and lays down the feeding tongs.

"Okay, lets go up together and see what happens."

Trace says but then he stops in the bathroom to wash his hands. He rejoins Ian outside of their son's bedroom. Blake is sleeping but his dads are willing to face the wrath of their son by waking Blake up if it means getting the problem resolved. Trace gently wakes his on up. At first Blake is dazed but he snaps out of it. Now, he needs to get rid of his dads, but something in the expressions on their faces tells him that this visit is serious. He sits up in his bed and then crosses his legs.

"Am I in trouble?"

Blake says as he tries to figure out why they are in his room.

"No son, you're not in any trouble. We just want to talk. Is that okay?"

Ian asks while Trace isn't about to give him the option to get out of this talk. Blake nodes his head because he can see Trace's "take no prisoner" expression. Trace decides to just jump right into the conversation.

"Blake, Dad and I were talking and we think it's time for you to get out of your funk, which means you need to talk with Ben. I don't want you talking over him, giving him attitude, or ignoring him. You need to speak your mind and then sit quietly while he responds. You need to listen to him. Do you understand?"

Blake looks at Trace in disbelief.

"I have tried talking to him and all I get is him yelling at me or he just doesn't listen to me. I...I...think, he hates me."

Blake loves Ben and all of this is making him sick. He wants whatever help his dads can give him?

"How do I make Ben listen to me?"

Ian shakes his head.

"Blake, you can't really make someone listen to you. You can discuss it without pointing fingers, accepting your end of the argument, and by keeping your voice down."

Trace nods his head in agreement.

`I guess, I can give it another try with Ben, maybe this time he'll listen to me.'

Trace saw the lights come on for Blake as Ian was speaking. It's a good sign for sure. Trace isn't done with the discussion.

***

Trace wants Blake to understand how being jeaslous can screw things up. There is one scenario that should still be fresh in his son's mind. He knows that that there will be guys who will flirt with Ben, and Blake needs to understand how to deal with it when it happens.

"Blake do you remember when Dad and I had a fight over a note that I found in dad's pocket?"

How could Blake forget about that fight? It could have ended their family.

"Yeah, I remember. You guys almost ended your relationship over it."

Blake says as he looks at his dads.

"You're right but if I hadn't been jealous over the note, but I also didn't listen to Dad, which caused problems and it's horrible son."

Trace explains to Blake hoping that he picks something up from what he said.

"I don't get it."

Blake says as he looks up at Trace. In case you're wondering Blake really didn't get it.

"I think what Dad is saying is that jeasouly is...not good for a relationship. You have to trust the person that you are with in your relationship ie Ben."

Blake gets it now. Ian's teaching skills helped assisting Trace in getting his point across to their son. He doesn't cry, he smiles and gives higs to his dads, who hug him back in return.

***

As Blake and his dads are talking, a smiliar conversation is happening between Ben and his mom, but we'll start at the beginning of the talk. Ben is sitting in the family room, when his mom joins him on the couch.

"Young man, we need to talk."

He's known since yesterday that his mom would want to have a talk as she calls it. She isn't going to let him get away from her without speaking about the problem.

"Okay Mom."

He says as he rolls his eyes.

"Why do we need to talk?"

The question makes her want to roll her eyes.

"I think you already know why we need to talk, son."

He knows why and he doesn't want to discuss the relationship or the lack thereof right now. Problem is, his mom isn't going to allow him to stay silent. She isn't going to allow him to remain silent. Ben goes to walk away from his mom, but she doesn't allow it.

"You will sit down right now!"

Mrs. Hatcher isn't messing around with her son. Her words were mixed with eye contact and just the right amount of "Mom's not happy"
voice.

"So what you're going to lecture me about Blake?"

Yes, she is and he's going to sit there or else.

"Yes, we're going to talk about Blake and your role in this unhappy turn of events."

Ben feels like his mom is butting in on his relationship.

"I want you to listen to me, and I mean really, truly listen to me; none of this half ass listening that you like to do. Do you love Blake?"

Mrs. Hatcher's question is meant to get to the middle of the mess. If he loves Blake, then everything else can be fixed.

"Yes, I still love him."

His answer has emotion behind it. She knows, Ben still cares for Blake deeply.

"So, if you love him, why haven't you talked to him and settled all of this once and for all? Your dad and I have a rule, we never go to bed angry at each other. You and Blake need to follow that bit of wisdom in your lives as well."

She watches as he rolls his eyes but then, there is something else as well. He has picked up a bit of truth from his mother today.

"Every time, I've tried to talk to him, he puts all the blame on me and then he starts in on his jealous act."

She once again resists the urge to roll her eyes.

"I think, you need to step back and reexamine what you just said, because it takes two people to argue, and this is just one big, stupid argument."

She says in hopes of getting him to see the reality of his situation.

"I may have some faults but Blake has done everything, he can done everything he can to upset me."

Ben says in reply to what his mother just said to him.

"And what have you done to him?"

Ben thinks for a second or two as he considers his mom's question. Finally, he sees his role in the feud but he's still upset with his boyfriend.

"You won't get pass any of this mess until you can forgive him. You have to know that he loves you, and he needs to know that you love him and that you trust him."

Ben is quiet as he considers what it is that his mom has just said to him.

***

Mrs. Hatcher heads for the basement leaving Ben by himself. He contemplates the words spoken by his mother. He begins to see what his mom was talking about during their discussion. It is perfectly clear to him what he did and how he hurt his boyfriend. Ben's heart is full and he walks to his room. When he is in his room, Ben begins to cry. He needs to seek after Blake.

***

Ben cannot stand by and watch things fall apart. Within minutes, he's on the phone calling his boyfriend. The phone is answered right away.

"Hey Ben, what's up?"

Blake is ready to let go of the anger and the pain if his boyfriend is ready to let go of his sadness and anger.

"We need to talk."

Ben couldn't have spoken more exact words.

"I know, we need to talk."

Ben might be ready to talk but the words aren't coming out of his mouth. His emotions get the better of him and he begins to shed some tears. Pulling himself back from tears, he gets ready to speak.

"I...I've been an ass Blake or least that's what I've been told by everyone. I shouldn't have put you in a bad situation. I had no business not listening to you at the restaurant. Can you forgive me?"

Blake doesn't want to let go of his relationship so he quickly let's his apology spill out of his mouth.

"I'm sorry for being jealous of you and your ex and yes, I accept your apology. I hope you'll accept my apology?"

Ben wants Blake so he jumps at the opportunity to forgive.

"Yes, I accept your apology."

Blake and Ben feel a weight has been lifted off their shoulders.

"I love you Ben."

It warms Ben's spirit to know that Blake loves him.

"I love you too Ben."

Blake wants cuddles right now or at least a kiss.

"We should have date night."

Blake says hoping that Ben would agree to a night that would help heal their wounds.

"Where at and what time?"

Ben asks excited over the idea of date night with his guy.

"My house say in an hour does that work for you?"

Ben is smiling. He feels like the world is once again in his hands. Everything feels right tonight finally. It's amazing how 24 hours can feel like a lifetime.

"Sounds perfect Blake."

Ben answers still holding that smile on his face.

"I love you Ben."

Blake says wanting Ben to know that he loves him deeply.

"I...I love you too."

Ben says to Blake as a tear of happiness slides down his face.

***

Mrs. Hatcher walks by her son's room and sees him sitting on his bed with a smile on his face. She enters his bedroom and sits beside him.

"Are you okay son?"

It's clear that something is going on inside of him?

"Want to tell me what's making you so happy?"

His mom asks again. By now, she is guessing that it has something to do with the phone. Suddenly, his smile grows more prominent.

"Blake and I are good."

Everything seems to be good. Mrs. Hatcher turns pats her son on the back.

"I'm happy for you buddy."

Ben hugs her and she quickly hugs her back. They break the hug and then relax. Mom and son move downstairs to watch some television together.

***

As Ben and his mom are talking at Blake's house, Ben gets up and looks for his dads. He finds them looking for something in the storage room.

"Hey Trace, Hey Ian, I thought I should let you know that Ben and I are back together."

Instantly, Trace and Ian smile. But inside of him, Trace isn't cannot help but feel like something is still amiss.

"We're happy for you Blake."

Blake knows that Trace is holding back, but he isn't going to push to find out what that something is, and Trace is going to vocalize it.

"Thanks guys."

Blake heads for the kitchen to start the meal he planned out in his head.

***

He isn't in the kitchen for more than a few minutes when there is a knock at the door. Excited, he practically runs to the front door. Opening the door, he sees Ben's smiling face.

"Hi Ben."

Blake is frozen in place but he's still smiling.

"Blake are you okay?"

He shakes off the daze and then speaks.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just glad to see you is all."

Blake is just happy to have him at his front door.

"Can I come inside?"

Ben asks his Blake. He wastes no time in welcoming his boyfriend into his home. Before he enters the house, Ben takes the time to kiss Blake the way a boyfriend should.

"I didn't have a chance to gert anything cooking so, does breakfast sound good to you?"

Ben has had one of Blake's breakfasts and he's excited to have it again.

"Can I help you?"

Ben asks, but Blake wants Ben to relax and so he pulls out a chair for Ben so he can sit.

"No, you need to just relax and I'll work on our meal."

Blake says as Ben reluctantly sits done.

"Okay Babe."

Ben says to Blake. He sits back and watches as the breakfast comes together. In no time, Blake has made crepes with blueberries and cream cheese filling. He also fries up bacon and sausage. There is freshly squeezed orange juice. Finally the meal is finished. The guys talk and smile for an hour or more. Not once during the meal was there a frown, Ben and Blake sat together without any ire between them.

***

In the living room, Ian gets on his laptop and orders pizza from their favorite pizza place. They watch some television until their dinner arrives. When the pizza arrives, the guys start eating until their meal is finished. Ian leans toward Trace's right ear and whispers.

"Trace spill it what are you hiding from our son?"

Trace looks shocked that Ian would pick up on it. He shouldn't be surprised though this is his husband afterall.

"I just have a bad feeling that is all."

Ian isn't sure, he likes what his husband just said. Trace doesn't like the feeling in the pit of his stomach. It's like someone dropped a ball of lead into the pit of his stomach. It's almost like Blake's premonition from the shooting incident has leaped to his father. Trace and Ian go back to watching television and eating pizza. Trace knows that there is more pain ready to strike, but maybe, just maybe it won't bite with it's venom at Blake's heart.

***

Blake is sitting in his room and he's stuck thinking about what today has meant. The day started with Blake feeling sad and depressed and it's ends with him being happy. He's stuck in his thoughts. He's entirely sure that this evening is a turning point for him and Ben. He's so happy that the world is lovely at the moment.

***

Love is a fantastic thing. Ben is the best thing that has happened to him. The world was pretty dark for the past twenty-four hours. It's amazing world. Right now all he wants is too hold on to the love, he wants to keep Ben close to his heart. Love is very close to his heart.
