This Is Seth

Chapter 16 – Introduce Me

It has been one week since I met Eric. Talk about awesome; Eric and I really seemed to click. Eric would make the perfect boyfriend. Of course, he is dating Steve, which is a problem. Still, I have to respect their relationship and not cross any lines, besides Paul and Sam have worked hard at finding someone to be my boyfriend. They seem to think that they have found someone who will be perfect for me. I can hear footsteps coming upstairs, so the question is, are they coming to my room?

I no sooner have that thought than Sam comes into my room.

"Hey, you can't skip school tomorrow. You have to be there. Paul and I have a big surprise for you."

"Okay, what's going on, Sam?"

She just looked at me and smiled.

"Just be there!"

"I will, just don't hit me."

She gave me a wicked smile, and then walked out of my room. The question is, why is tomorrow so important? I will just have to wait to find out. It is time for bed; enough worrying about what Paul and Sam have up their sleeves.

Another wonderful school day is upon me. I am sitting in the cafeteria enjoying my breakfast when someone comes up behind me. I turn around to see Paul, Sam, and the new kid.

"Hey bro, I want you to meet Mason; our new neighbor."

Paul gave Mason a little nudge to get him closer to me.

"Hi Mason," I said as we exchanged a handshake.

"Hi, Seth." Mason's voice was masculine sounding but somewhat quiet. He's giving me lots of eye contact so maybe he's not as shy as I first thought.

"Sit down Mason; we have time to talk before the bell rings."

Mason seems a little nervous. He has no reason to be though. Mason sits down across from me and gives me a coy smile. This guy is measuring me up. I feel like I should stand up and spin around to give him the chance to see the whole me.

"Do you want anything to drink?"

"No, I'm good. Thanks though."

No doubt about it, he's shy, but at least he's polite. Not bad, I wonder what other gems he's hiding. I will just have to find out.

"So your brother and sister seem to be the perfect siblings."

Sometimes I forget that Paul and Sam really are great examples of how siblings should be. They really are pretty close to perfect.

"Yeah, they are pretty good to me. Do you have any siblings?"

"No, I don't have any siblings."

"What do you like to do for fun?"

Please, oh please let him like video games.

"I like hiking, video games, basketball, baseball, eating, reading, and camping."

Cool, he is into sports, hiking, and reading. Maybe we can exchange some books.

"I like hiking, video games, camping, reading, eating, drawing, painting, and, of course, sports."

"What type of foods do you like?"

"I love my Grandma's cooking, Mexican..."

Mason's eyes lit up when I said that I liked Mexican food. I wonder what's he's thinking.

"...Italian, and anything that is healthy to semi-healthy."

I caught him staring at me again.

"So what do you eat?"

"Anything or just about anything, I won't touch liver or tripe, but everything else is fair game."

"My mom would love to have you over for dinner."

"Is that an invite?" he asked with a smile.

"Yeah, just let me know when you want to come over for dinner."

Mason is shaping up to be someone I would not mind having as a boyfriend.

"Paul and Sam were pretty eager to get us together so we could talk. It's almost like they had some sort of scheme going on."

`Do I tell him what they were up too? No, I'll wait until we have our first official date as boyfriends.'

"Hello!" Mason brought me back to Earth.

"Huh?"

"You zoned out on me."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to flake out."

My new friend just smiled at me. The first bell is ringing, ending our short chat. I do not want to say goodbye to him. I found myself wanting to gaze into his deep brown eyes.

"I guess we need to head off to class, huh?"

Mason did his best to get me moving. My eyes are locked on his face. He pinched my arm to get my attention.

"Come on, Seth, you don't want to be late.

"Man that really smarted!" His pinch left a red mark on my arm.

"Sorry, but you weren't moving."

I owe him one. "Thanks." I think there is a definite attraction going on here.

"We need to get to class."

Mason is right. Lucky thing, we have our books already so that all we need to do is head to class.

I enter my first hour class, followed by Mason. It is going to be hard to pay attention with him in here. I have to remember that my social life depends on my ability to pay attention and get good grades. My parents will ground me if I get anything lower than a D. Of course if I'm grounded, I will not be seeing Mason. I actually caught myself staring at him during first hour. I guess it's a good thing that the bell is ringing, marking the end of class. Our first hour teacher showed Mason where his next class was, and I went to my next class. As it ended up, Mason is only in one of my classes before lunch.

Lunch has to be most students' favorite part of their school day. It is about to be become mine. A couple of minutes after I sat down, Mason approached the table.

"Can I join you?"

"Uhhh... sure!" Okay, I admit it; I am seriously falling for this guy. Is it love? I do not think so, but it still feels good. I do not want to lose this feeling.

"How have your classes been?" I asked, with a smile on my face.

"They've been good, but to be honest, I'm waiting for my last two classes."

"What are your last two classes?"

He pulled out his schedule and glanced at it.

"I have chemistry and world history."

"Oh cool, I get to finish up my day with you."

"Cool!" Mason looked excited. We sat and ate until Paige, Devin, and Scottie joined us. They all looked at Mason and me.

I guess the polite thing to do here is to introduce everyone. I want them to accept Mason into our group.

"Mason, I want to introduce you to my best friends; Devin, Paige, and Scottie."

"Hi!" Mason said, extending his hand to shake their hands. One by one, they shake hands with him.

"Where are you from Mason?"

"I'm from FlagStaff, Arizona."

"Cool!" Paige said as she gave him a quick glance.

"Welcome to our school and our city then, I hope you like it here."

Mason smiled at Devin and then looked at me and smiled.

"So far, I like it here. Of course, it helps having this guy to show me around."

His right arm came up and rested on my shoulder. It felt electrifying to have his arm up there. Scottie seems a little put off by Mason's actions. It is something that he will either get use to, or he can choose not to hang around with Mason and me. We ate our lunches and made small talk until the bell. At the bell, Mason and I went our separate ways.

Scottie stops by my locker on his way to his next hour class.

"What's up with Mason? I mean what's his story."

If I didn't know better, I'd say that Scottie was jealous.

"He's my new neighbor and he's also the target of Paul's and Samantha's quest to find me a boyfriend."

`I need to get to class. Doesn't he have some place to go this hour?'

"I'll talk to you later."

With that, he turned the other way and went off to class.

The end of the day came and went. Mason and I made small talk as we walked to the bus and during the ride home.

As I entered the house, I saw my mom on the phone. She motioned for me to sit down, so I did. I'm not sure whom she is talking to, but I seem to be the topic of discussion, at least at the moment.

"Tim, things are good, but I'll let you tell him what's up."

Mom gave me the phone and then walked away.

"Hey, Uncle Tim!" I love talking with my uncles.

"Your mom called me all excited and told me that you made a big move. What's going on, nephew of mine?"

I don't want to jinx myself by saying too much. Still, I cannot be rude.

"Paul and Sam found a guy who they think is perfect for me. His name is Mason. He is not as tall as I am, but man, is he cute. We share enough interests to give us stuff to talk about and give us some possible date activities. I've already felt some warm, fuzzy feelings for him."

"He sounds pretty cool, Seth! When are you going to see him again?"

"I might see him later today. The best part is he lives right next door, so I can see him every day, if possible."

What I want more than anything is advice from Uncle Tim.

"It sounds like things are going well for you. Are you nervous at all?"

"Yeah, I'm a little nervous."

"Well, be yourself and everything will turn out okay. I don't think you should rush into anything, so take things slow."

I needed to hear that. I am so glad to have him as an uncle.

"Thanks, Uncle Tim, I hope that I can take things slow with him."

I do not want to mess things up with Mason, so I plan on taking and using Uncle Tim's advice.

As we are talking, Paul comes into the room and sits down. He turns and whispers, "I need to talk to you." I'm not sure what he wants, but he can just wait.

Returning to the phone, I ask Uncle Tim, "Where should we go for our first date?"

"I think you should slow down and just be friends for now."

"I'll try to slow down."

I will make the promise, but I'm not sure how successful I'll be at following it.

"Look, I mean it. Seth, don't rush into it."

"Okay, okay!" He has to know that I won't keep the promise. Why did I even make that promise? Oh well, it doesn't matter.

"Seth, Uncle Mike just came in the door, so I need to let you go, but think about what I said."

"Say hello to Uncle Mike for me."

"Mike, Seth says hi. He said hi back at you. Talk to you later Seth!"

"Goodbye."

Uncle Tim ended that call quickly. Now to find out why Paul has been sitting next to me while Uncle Tim and I were talking.

I clicked the off button on the phone and then turned to Paul.

"What's up?"

"I just wanted to talk."

It's my experience that whenever someone `just wants to talk', it ends up being an in depth discussion... or I'm about to get in trouble.

"What do you think of Mason?"

"He's nice."

Paul's face suddenly has a frustrated look on it.

"Oh come on, you can do better than that."

"We have a few things in common, he's cute, and he's funny. Would I date him? Yeah, I think that he's date-worthy."

He went from looking frustrated to full out smiling. There is nothing wrong with Mason.

"Bro, I have to get serious here for a second or two."

"Okay."

Paul and being serious usually don't mix, but ever since Paul and Sam have undertaken `project boyfriend', he's been more focused.

"What I want to know is, will having a boyfriend affect us?"

"What do you mean?"

"Are we going to hang out once Mason and you are dating?

He should know by now that I always make time for my siblings.

"Has there ever been a time when I haven't had time for you, Sam, or Ryan?"

Paul looked down at the floor for a second and then returned his gaze to me.

"I don't know why I asked you that question."

I think he just needed some reassurance.

"Do you think Mom and Dad are really okay with you dating?"

"Yeah, they want me to be happy. We've already had conversations about it."

"What is going on with church?"

"I don't know."

Paul smiled at me and patted my back with his right hand.

"Seth no matter what happens; you'll always be my big brother and my best friend."

He didn't have to tell me because I already know how he feels about me.

"Thanks Paul, I really appreciate it."

"You're welcome!"

As we are wrapping up our brotherly chat, I hear a familiar knock at the door.

Leaving my room, Paul and I go our separate ways. Paul goes out the backdoor and I go answer the front door.

"Open the door, I'm bored."

Scottie is over without calling; that is odd. Lately, he has been in the habit of calling the house to make sure that it's okay for him to come over to my house.

"Okay, I guess that I can let you inside."

I open the door and not only do I see Scottie, but I also see Paul over at Mason's house.

"Well, can I come into your house?"

"Of course you can, you're always welcome at my house. What's up?"

"Nothing, I just came over to hang out."

"What do you want to do?"

"We have a video game to finish."

He smiles as he pats me on the back. I still have my eyes on my brother and my hopeful boyfriend.

"With your head in the clouds, you'll be easy to beat."

"Whatever, I can beat you even with my head in the clouds."

Scottie walked right up the stairs and into my room. I closed the front door and followed him up to my room. My friend already had the system up and running with the game in his hand, ready to insert it. Once we started playing things got crazy. We played for an hour when Scottie suddenly stops playing and sets down his controller. He turns to me with a look of calmness about him.

"Seth, I have to say something and I need to say it now. I'm proud of you for standing your ground."

A couple of tears came down his face as he said those words. It reminds me of when he apologized to me for his walking away from me.

"Thanks Scottie, I love you bro."

"I'm not done; don't interrupt me."

I could tell that Scottie means what he said. It is in my best interest to quiet down and let him talk. Although, I'm somewhat curious what he's going to say since he's already apologized more than once to me. I better just kick back and listen.

"Seth, I will personally kick anyone's ass who messes with Mason and you.

"I think that I've got that covered bro."

To prove my point, I flex my muscles.

"You can put your muscles away."

I stop flexing and I get quiet again.

"I just want you to know that I'm okay with Mason. I get it; you don't want to be alone."

I'm not about to tear up in front of him, but I sure want too.

"What I'm about to say might sound strange coming from me, but I think the two of you make a cute couple. Hey, do you think that Paul and Sam might be able to find me a girlfriend?"

"I can ask them for you."

Scottie doesn't need anyone's help in finding a girlfriend. He just needs to open his eyes. I personally know of three girls our age who want to date him.

Two familiar voices are coming closer to my room. I can't make out what they're saying, but I can tell that Paul and Mason are upstairs. All of a sudden, Paul's voice became really clear.

"Why haven't you asked him yet?"

"I don't feel right asking him. We just barely met each other."

"Don't waste too much time, he might lose interest."

I couldn't hear Mason's voice so either he's being quiet or they've moved. I suddenly became aware of rustling coming from Paul's room. Things went quiet again.

"Seth, are you okay?"

Scottie must be thinking that I'm zoned out, which I guess I am.

Mason's voice has me smitten. I could listen to it all day long. I looked out my window and saw my brother and Mason heading to our pool.

It suddenly hit me that Scottie and I need to go swimming.

"Do you want to go swimming?"

"I don't have a suit with me."

"So what? Wear one of mine. I want to go swimming."

Knowing he wouldn't win, he ended the game and grabbed one of my swimming suits. I made sure that I kept the one that I bought last year. It's a little tight, but Mason hopefully won't mind, or at least I hope he doesn't mind. When I'm done changing, I go back to my window and look out at the pool. I think that Mason is trying to impress me as well.

"What are you looking at Seth?"

I didn't want to take my eyes away from Mason to answer my friend. Scottie is standing right behind me and looking over my shoulder. He knows now what I was looking at. I blushed a little bit.

"Oh brother, do you have it bad. Are we swimming or what?"

"Yeah, we're going to go swimming."

I have managed to get a boner, and I really don't want to display it for all to see. I grab my towel, wrap it around my waist, and turned to face Scottie.

"Are you ready?

Scottie's eyes focus on the towel for a spilt second. His glance causes my face to turn bright red. Luckily, he didn't say anything as we left the room.

"Scottie, you forgot your towel."

I grabbed his towel and handed it to him. With towels in hand and around our waist, we left my room and headed for the pool.

Scottie and I get up on the small deck surrounding the pool and dropped our towels. Luckily for me, my erection died down. I didn't want to scar my brother's eyes or give Mason too much of an eyeful. Scottie pushed me into the pool and laughed.

"I'll get you back Scottie! You just wait!"

The water felt good and the view at the moment isn't that bad either. Mason looks good in his swimsuit. He swims up next to me and snaps the back of my suit. He swims away from me emerging a couple feet away from me. Scottie came up beside me and there was a hint of evil in his face.

`What is he up too?'

I have a bad feeling about him being this close to me. Before I could move away, Scottie pulls my suit down. My junk is on display and my blush is deep, deep red. I quickly pull up suit. I don't want to face Mason. Scottie was just goofing around, and I realize that, but he didn't have to do that. I look around the pool for Scottie and I swim over to him. With all the strength that is in me, I splash Scottie.

"Okay, I'm sorry!"

We divide into teams to play volleyball in the pool. The teams are Scottie and Paul and Mason and me. Of course, my team won. Shortly after our game, everyone got out of the pool and dried off. Mom decided to treat us to pizza.

By 2:00 pm, Scottie and Mason had gone home, and I retired to my room. I'm on my bed, my head is resting on the pillow, and my eyes are closed. Out of nowhere, someone jumps on the bed. I figure it is either Paul or Ryan, so I didn't react that much. I open my eyes to see who else was on my bed.

"Paul, did you really have to jump on my bed?"

"Yes, I did. Did I get your attention?"

At this point, it's taking a lot of self-control not to chew him out.

"Yes, you have my attention."

Paul just smiled.

"You have my attention. Now what do you want?"

He smiled and chuckled a little bit.

"You know when Scottie pulled down your swimming suit?"

I blushed from simply from remembering the incident.

"I was doing my best to forget it, thanks Paul."

Paul knows something and he's dying to tell me.

"Well, Mason saw your junk and he didn't turn away, which means he had an eyeful."

"Did you really have to tell me that?"

I know that I'm gay and that I'm supposed to check out other dudes in the locker room, but I find no real pleasure in that.

`Did he like it?'

Where did that come from? I'm not ready for sex just yet, so why do I care if he likes it or not? Paul is just sitting there.

"Paul, did he say anything?"

"No, he just smiled."

"Oh, okay!"

Maybe Mason saying nothing is a good thing.

"I can tell that you're caught up in your thoughts so I'll catch you later."

"Later, bro!"

The rest of Friday night passed without any excitement. I managed to arrange some time with Mason for tomorrow.

Friday night came and went and it's now 6:00 am. Luckily, I am a morning person, so this wasn't all that bad. I was ready to be seen out in public by 7:00 am. As I was about ready to step outside and see Mason, Mom called me into the kitchen.

"Are you sneaking out to see the cute guy next door?"

"Yes, I am!"

"Just wanted to know what you're up to today."

Even with her keeping tabs on me, she is still better than Eric's mom.

"I love you, Seth."

"I know, Mom. Am I good to go?"

"Go ahead."

I walk straight to the front door and open it up. In no time, I am outside. Mason is already outside standing near his mailbox. He starts to walk over to me and then for some odd reason, he runs across the street to me.

"Hey handsome!"

Not sure why I said it, but I did; the words seemed to just jump from my lips.

"What's up?"

We embrace each other. I don't know about Mason, but I don't want to end our hug. It feels so good, but we do have to break off the hug. We drop our arms and walk around to my back yard.

"I want to show you my favorite spot in our yard."

"Cool!"

I directed us into a part of our backyard that my parents turned into a little sitting area. The chairs sit on top of bricks, surrounded on three sides with herbs and sweet-smelling flowers.

"What do you think?"

"It's amazing. I can see why you like it so much over here."

"Yeah it's nice. I want to apologize for Scottie putting me on display yesterday."

Why do I feel the need to give an apology for Scottie's actions? It was a joke after all.

"Relax Seth, I have the same equipment. It's not that big a deal."

`Duh, he is a guy, but it wasn't him on display.'

Mason put out his left hand and rests it on my shoulder. I feet the hairs standing up on my body. There is also a strange electrical current or something surging through me at the moment.

"Mason, what has my brother told you about me?"

Mason's face became soft.

"First, he told me that you are gay and LDS. Sam told me that there isn't a mean bone in your body. Both of them said... that you would make a great friend and maybe a great boyfriend."

I'm not sure what to say. The second he said `boyfriend' my stomach fluttered a little bit.

I look up to the house for a second and I can see my parents watching us. I'm a little old to need their watchful eyes on me. I'm sitting with Mason and suddenly he has become the most important person in the world to me. Turning my attention back to Mason, I become trapped by his eyes.

"You seem distracted, is everything okay?"

"Yeah, my parents are watching us from the kitchen window."

"We aren't doing anything other than talking, so it's all good. What do you want to do?"

Mason is right. We aren't doing anything. He is so cute.

"I just want to sit here and talk."

"Sounds good to me, I don't mind sitting here and talking."

Any other person would be bored just sitting here, but not Mason. He seems content with sitting next to me and talking.

"Mason, do you... think that I'm... cute?"

"Heck yeah, I do! Though I have to admit, when your brother and sister first approached me, I honestly thought that all of this was some kind of cruel joke. After meeting you, I know that you couldn't pull off that type of a joke."

I'm a little taken aback by what he said. It still made me feel really good. I, for one, think that he's cute too.

"You're hot yourself."

"Thanks!" Mason blushes and then smiles at me. All of a sudden, I feel super shy. I do not even know why I am feeling this way. There are butterflies in my stomach. Mason has this kind of gentle look on his face. He smiles and a warm, fuzzy feeling washes over me. A hand takes my hand and holds it gently in an embrace. Every fiber in my body has feelings for this guy. My eyes make contact with his, and we both smile. Mason's smile stirs something in my heart, and I find myself wanting to kiss him. Is it right to kiss someone I'm not dating? Mason drops my hand and just stares at me.

"What are you thinking about?"

He has a worried look on his face.

"I'm thinking about you and me."

"What about us is making you worried?"

My heart wants to ask him to be boyfriend, but my mind says "No!" Unfortunately, my heart is winning this fight.

"Ma...son, would you be my boyfriend? If you don't want to, it's okay."

I'm not sure why I said that last sentence, unless it was my brain's way of giving him an out. He looks a little confused.

"Do you want me to be your boyfriend or not?"

"I... do!"

"Okay then, I would love to be your boyfriend."

I found myself wanting to cry. Mason leaned in and kissed me on the lips. I can feel it from my lips to my toes. "Relax Seth!" He smiled as he embraces me in a hug. Suddenly, his phone starts to ring. If I could have thrown that phone away, I would have. Phones are evil.

I watch as Mason answers the phone.

"Hi, Mom!" I hate the silence while I wait for Mason to respond again. I know deep down inside of me that she is telling him to come home. I see the disappointment in those brown eyes of his.

"Okay, Mom, I'm on my way home."

Mason ended the call with his mom. With sad puppy dog eyes, he looks into my eyes.

"Seth, I'm sorry."

"I can't wait to see you again."

He moves close and kisses me again.

"Walk with me!"

Mason takes my hand and together we walk out of my backyard.

"Seth thanks for a great time. It was nice being able to sit next to you and talk."

I want to cry, that's how happy I am right now.

"You're welcome!"

At the edge of our property, we parted ways. Walking away from him, I feel sad. As I enter my home, it's as if every pair of eyes is on me.

I made my way past the family and went up to my room. I know that I will not be alone much longer. Sure enough, my first visitors are my parents. They entered my room and sat on my bed. Dad has his game face on and that cannot be good. Mom, on the other hand, seems happy. They have me a bit confused.

"You know, we saw you with the neighbor kid."

Dad still does not look happy. Mom's silence is not helping me feel good about their visit to my room. My head drooped down a little bit. I thought they were okay with me having a boyfriend.

"Seth, we're not here to harass you. We just wanted to know if you were happy."

They really had me this time.

"I was so nervous out there, but every time I saw Mason smile, it all went away."

"As long as you're happy, we are happy. Mason is welcome over here any time."

Mom and Dad stand up and leave my room. As soon as they left, Sam and Paul came into my room.

"Did we pick a good one for you?"

"Thanks! Mason is perfect."

"You're welcome!" Sam is beaming with pride. Paul seems happy with himself. He leans in and pats me on the back. The twins turn back to the door and leave me alone in my room.

I went to the floor near Nightmare's tank and opened it up. Nightmare is my three-foot monitor lizard. Right now, he is an absolute angel. As a new pet, he was a living terror. Any time, you picked him up it became a battle. He would scratch, attempt to bite, and lash out with his tail. Sticking my arms into his tank, I lift my baby out of his home.

"Hey, Nightmare, I have a boyfriend. His name is Mason, and you had better be nice to him."

As usual, he ignores me and starts to explore the room. I love interacting with him. It sometimes helps me relax. My mind right now is on Mason. I want nothing more than to go on our first date.
