He slid the cue through his fingers and watched it connect with the cue ball. The white ball caromed off the three ball and tapped the six ball into the corner pocket. The cue ball slowly rolled to a spot which put it in perfect position for the next shot. It was exactly how he planned it. "Yes!" Adam said loudly and pumped his fist. His smile slowly dissipated as he realized Dawson wasn't there to share the moment with him. He considered how quickly he had connected with Dawson. In his mind, he ran through the first time they met. Dawson was so vulnerable. Adam smiled to himself when he remembered how it felt to help Dawson through his emotions at his granddad's wake. Adam leaned against the pool table as he stared at the cue ball and thought about their shared shock at being named beneficiaries. Adam remembered the look of sympathy on Dawson's face when Adam was named the inheritor of his granddad's personal assets. It was a comfort to him. Adam knew he wasn't alone in this weird journey. He took solace in the fact that it was with Dawson. Adam reflected on how thoughtful Dawson had been with his fear of the water. Dawson took the time to ease Adam through his trepidation. Images of Dawson's caring demeanor from their swimming lessons kept flashing in his mind. Then the feeling of Adam on top of him when they were wrestling with the pun book hit him. The feeling of Dawson's powerful body towering above him as they pressed their erections into each other took over his thoughts. He could feel his penis start to get hard. He closed his eyes and he could almost smell Dawson's potent aroma. Adam opened his eyes and shook his head to clear it. He leaned over to line up his next shot. He realized he should be thinking about Vickie. He stood up straight and shook his head again. He went to the corner of the table where the chalk was sitting and began to chalk his cue. He started to think about the first time he met Vickie. Suddenly the chalk slipped out of his hand. It caromed off the leg of the settee and rolled under the pool table. "Hhhh," Adam sighed. He leaned the cue against the pool table and got down on his hands and knees. He crawled under the pool table where he could see the chalk. He grabbed it and started to back out. Then he saw something out of the corner of his eye. He turned and saw the "Book of 1000 Puns". Dawson had stuffed it into a small gap underneath the casing of the pool table. Adam smiled. He rolled onto his back and lay under the table. He looked up at the book and chuckled. He pulled it out of its hiding place. "Ha... very clever, Dawson," he whispered to himself. He began to replay, in his mind, the chase with Dawson. Getting caught by him on the bed... Dawson's body on top of his... Dawson's erection grinding into him... Dawson's manly scent... Adam involuntarily ground his hips and realized he now had a fully hard boner. He hugged the book against his chest with one hand and began to rub his dick through his pants with the other. Adam closed his eyes. "Fuck..." he sighed. ----- Dawson took a sip of ginger ale. He placed it back on the coffee table. After going through the section of the will where Clayton had given him the pool table with no conditions he went through the section in clause C where the lake house was given to him and Adam 50-50. Dawson was looking for some clue as to why Clayton had forced him and Adam to stay in the lake house, isolated, for six months. He poured through the list of charities. He was hoping he would see something interesting or unusual. But all he found were the charities he would expect Clayton to support. Dawson began to go through the list of real estate holdings. Nothing on the list was surprising. He knew all of the holdings. He knew them in detail. It was his job to know. He began thinking about how he would need to walk Adam through the details at some point. Dawson's thoughts went to Adam. His smile... His joy when he treaded water... The look on his face when Dawson was tasting the wine... Dawson shook it off. He got off the sectional and stood up. He sighed and grabbed the ginger ale. He took a sip and sat down. He snapped the pages of the will in his hands and started reading again. He went through the list of personal assets. He didn't find anything in there that stood out to him. Dawson slipped off his loafers and then turned in his seat. He lay himself down on his back, across the sectional. He bent his knees and planted his stocking feet on the cushion. He hugged the will to his chest and looked at the ceiling. "I know I'm missing something..." Dawson whispered to himself. He closed his eyes and began to replay in his mind that day back in September when Clayton finalized his will. He replayed every detail he could remember from that day but came up with nothing that stood out. His mind wandered to the day he met Adam at Clayton's wake. He embraced the will against his chest as he lay on the couch. He crumpled the will as he tried to relive the moment when Adam first embraced him on the back porch of the funeral home. "Dawson," Adam spoke softly. Dawson's eyes popped open and he jerked his head to the side. Adam was standing there, next to the sectional, looking down on him. Adam bent over and lifted his knee. He took the will out of Dawson's hands and tossed it onto the floor. He began to straddle Dawson. "Adam..." Dawson protested as he unbent his knees and tried to sit up. Adam pushed him back down and put his fingers on his lips. "Shhh," Adam said as he looked into Dawson's eyes. Adam stayed like that for a few moments, until he felt Dawson's body relax. Adam moved to fully straddle Dawson. His crotch leaned into Dawson's abs as his butt pressed on Dawson's crotch. He slid his hands to cup Dawson's cheeks. He leaned down until he was right up close to Dawson's face. Dawson could feel his own heart racing. "I'm done thinking. I know what I want," Adam whispered. He moved in and planted a single kiss on Dawson's lips. "Hmm," Dawson whined in protest as he half-heartedly pressed back against Adam. Adam continued to hold Dawson's face as he kissed Dawson again. Adam's tongue slipped out of his mouth and began tickling Dawson's closed lips. Dawson didn't want to resist anymore. His lips parted and he slid his hands behind Adam's head. They began kissing in earnest, flicking their tongues aggressively between their mouths. Dawson couldn't help but push his crotch up into Adam. "Mmm," Adam moaned as he pressed down on Dawson. After kissing for a couple minutes and grinding their crotches together, Adam broke the kiss. He slid down and nestled his head into Dawson's neck. "I tried thinking about Vickie, but all I could think about was you. It's you I want," Adam said as he gently caressed Dawson's cheek. Dawson brought his hand up and began caressing Adam's forearm. "Adam, that's not enough time for you to come to that conclusion. We've only been away from each other for a couple hours," Dawson said. "Let me ask you this. Did you like being apart from me? Because I didn't like it. It almost hurt. I wanted to be with you so bad," Adam explained. "Adam, that's only one point in time. A couple hours is not enough time to sort things out. You haven't even talked to Vickie. How can you be so sure?" Dawson said. "This is why..." Adam said. He sat up and put all of his weight on Dawson's crotch. He grabbed Dawson's hand and he placed it on his erection. "I thought I was straight. But I know now, I'm not," Adam said. Dawson watched Adam's eyes as he gave his explanation and pressed Dawson's hand against his crotch. Dawson could feel the hardness. He brought his eyes down and looked at Adam's crotch. He began to squeeze and feel the width of Adam's member. Then he began to trace the length of it. Adam closed his eyes and let go of Dawson's hand. "Hhhhh," Adam expelled air as Dawson explored Adam's girth and length. "This feels so right..." Adam breathed out as he reveled in Dawson's groping. Adam opened his lust filled eyes and looked down at Dawson. Dawson smiled at Adam and lifted his hands. He braced them against Adam's cheeks and neck. He pulled him down. Adam leaned down and they kissed again. Their passion was raw as they turned their heads and mingled their tongues back and forth in their mouths. "Hmmm," Adam whined as Dawson drove his crotch up into Adam's boner. Adam kept sliding his crotch over Dawson's as they kissed. Dawson began to gently push Adam back. Their lips separated. They stopped grinding against each other. They were both breathing heavily. "I'm not gonna pretend I don't want this..." Dawson said as he looked into Adam's eyes, "but we need to slow down." Adam tilted his head, still looking at Dawson. "Why?" he said softly. "I don't want you to end up hurt," Dawson said with concern. Adam thought of a hundred ways to respond to Dawson. They came all at once into his head. Instead of saying something, he simply leaned down. He slid his arms between Dawson's armpits and underneath him until he was gripping his shoulders. He nestled his head into Dawson's neck. He took in a deep breath and exhaled. Then he knew what to say. "I trust you. You'll protect me," Adam said softly. Dawson embraced Adam. He gently rubbed his back. Dawson thought to himself that it didn't really work that way. Both of them could get hurt. But Dawson was a little selfish. He wanted this relationship. He was tired of trying to fight it. So he didn't say anything. He simply relaxed and enjoyed the feeling. They lay like that for several minutes. Their breathing eventually synchronized as they quietly embraced each other. "Can we just do this for the next six months?" Adam said, breaking the silence. "I'd vote for that," Dawson said. Adam squeezed his fingers to grip Dawson's shoulders. Dawson tightened his embrace and pulled Adam closer. "What do we do about Niven and Krantz? They're going to figure it out," Dawson said. "Well," said Adam, "can't we just say that we're...I mean, that we...," Adam paused, lifted his head, and looked at Dawson, "What are we exactly?" Dawson smiled. "You're my dearest friend and closest admirer," Dawson said with a grin. "No, c'mon... I'm serious," Adam said as he withdrew one of his arms and leaned his body on the back of the settee. He placed his free hand on Dawson's chest. "Adam. Why should we label things? I just want to be with you and see where it goes. Is that enough for right now?" Dawson said. "Yes... it is. I just want to be with you. Conveniently enough, we have six months together," Adam said as he chuckled. "Mmm," Dawson agreed as he chuckled and rubbed Adam's hand. Adam leaned back down and Dawson enveloped him in his arms. They lay quietly for a few more minutes, enjoying their time embracing. "Did you find anything in the will?" Adam asked as he looked at the will on the floor. "No..." Dawson said, "Did you really spend time contemplating your relationship with Vickie?" "Yeah..." Adam said wistfully. Adam stayed quiet. Dawson didn't push. Dawson looked over at the wall clock. "Hey..." Dawson said as he patted Adam's arm, "it's just about noon. We should head to the dining room before Niven and Krantz come looking for us." Adam looked at Dawson. He leaned in and gave Dawson a closed mouth kiss. Then he got a silly look on his face and slowly let his body lean over until he rolled off of Dawson. His body clunked onto the ground and he rolled onto his back, crumpling the will underneath him. He brought his arms over his own stomach and started laughing. Dawson rolled off the sectional and landed mostly on top of Adam, using his arms to prevent himself from crushing him when he landed. "Ooommmpphhh," Adam uttered jokingly as Dawson landed on him. Dawson started laughing, too. Dawson leaned down and gave Adam a closed mouth kiss. He then got up and held out a hand to help Adam up. Dawson picked up the will and put it on the table. He slipped his feet into his loafers and grabbed his almost empty ginger ale glass. As they started to leave the room, Adam reached over, cupped Dawson's ass cheek, and gave it a squeeze. "Hey! Watch those hands, Gropey McFeeley," Dawson said with mock indignation. Adam put up both hands, as he laughed. "It wasn't me," Adam said with a sly grin. Both boys started to laugh as they pushed and shoved each other playfully. They entered the dining room and found Niven placing food on the service table. Dawson put the glass with the remnants of his ginger ale onto the service tray. They thanked Niven for making lunch and she left. There were some tacos, rice, beans, chips, and salsa on the service table. The boys made plates and sat down. They bantered back and forth, laughing and having a good time as they ate lunch. When they finished, they sat back in their chairs and looked at each other. "Ready to go to the ballroom?" Dawson asked. "Yup, although I'll have to warn you. I'm not a big music buff. Most of what I'm familiar with is older songs," Adam said. "That doesn't matter. I find that the best music is songs that speak to you. Who cares when it was made?" Dawson said. The boys got up and made their way to the ballroom. As they entered the room, they both instinctively slowed down and looked around. The room was no longer filled with folding chairs. There were a couple settees and a few wing back chairs along the walls. Otherwise, the room was empty, creating a substantial open space. The French doors that led to the terrace and overlooked the lake were covered by the closed drapes. Adam pressed the control panel on the wall and the drapes began to open. Sunlight filled the room and the boys turned themselves to look at all of the artwork on the walls. In the back of the room, there was a corner sectioned off with a half wall. That's where the audio control station was. The boys headed for the corner. There was a wheeled workstation chair in front of a video screen with a keyboard, mouse, and audio controls. Adam took the chair and started up the system. "I've played with this before. I can bring up the catalog," Adam said. "Cool," Dawson said as he stood on the dance floor and leaned against the half wall. "Ok, C'mere," Adam said. Dawson came around and went behind Adam. He leaned over his shoulder. "You can search by artist, album, year, genre, whatever," Adam said, "You wanna start?" "Sure, should we go back and forth? I pick one, you pick one?" Dawson asked. "Yeah, sounds good," Adam said. Adam got up and Dawson took the seat. Adam wandered over to the French doors and looked out at the landscapers working on the lawn. Dawson began scrolling through some music. It didn't take him long to find something. "Ok, do I just click the play button? Do I need to adjust the controls at all?" Dawson asked. "Oh, there's a demo you can play of some random bass and treble riffs to set the audio controls," Adam said as he came over. Adam showed him the demo button. Dawson clicked it and they adjusted the levels as it played. "Ok, we should be good," Adam said, "do you want to tell me why you picked it or wait until after it plays?" "I had broken up with this guy after we dated only a few months. I was still getting over him when this song came out. When I first heard it, it made me reflect on why it didn't work out. We just weren't right for each other. It inspired me to keep trying, because I figured someday I'd find somebody who I'd click with," Dawson said as he pressed play. Adele's 'Rolling In the Deep' began playing. "Ah," Adam said and then he grinned. Dawson stood up and leaned his hands against the half wall as he looked toward the French doors. Adam came up behind him. He placed his hands on Dawson's back. Adam leaned his head against Dawson's shoulder. They both closed their eyes and listened. When the song finished, Adam removed his hands and stood, backing away from Dawson. "That was a good one. Thanks for sharing that with me," Adam said. Dawson didn't turn around. He was getting emotional, so he simply nodded his head. Sensing the heaviness of the moment, Adam spoke. "Ok, my turn. Get ready to be disappointed," Adam said as he took the chair. He started to scroll as Dawson remained leaning against the half wall, facing away from Adam. Adam took a few minutes. Dawson finally straightened up and turned toward Adam. He leaned his butt against the half wall and crossed his arms. "Oh god...ok...don't judge me...but I got one," Adam said and then he laughed. Dawson began to smile in anticipation. "Okay, that fancy restaurant downtown... Barton Creek Tavern... Have you heard of it?" Adam asked. Dawson scrunched his face in thought and began shaking his head. "I had my first paying job there. I was a dishwasher. We used to play the radio in the kitchen during dinner and the prep chef insisted it stay on this one station. Every Saturday night at nine o'clock, this song would come on and the whole kitchen would sing it. It's the only thing about that job that I look back on with fondness," Adam said and then he hit play. He cranked the volume up and Billy Joel's 'Piano Man', began to play. Dawson smiled as Adam began singing along, "It's nine o'clock on a Saturday..." Dawson joined him in singing and they both got into it. They got next to each other, put an arm on the other's shoulder and began rocking back and forth as they sang louder and louder. When the song ended, they laughed and embraced. They separated and Dawson took the chair. "Ok, so you just raised the bar. How the hell am I gonna beat that?" Dawson said as he scanned the library. Adam felt invigorated by what just happened and he half danced out onto the ballroom floor as he kept singing the refrain, "dah dih dah diddy dah..." "Oh! Oh! I got it! I can top that one! You are gonna love this," Dawson said with excitement. Adam stopped and turned. "What?" Adam asked. "You'll see," Dawson said. Dawson stood up and came around the half wall, onto the dance floor. He leaned over to reach the controls. He clicked play and then scampered several feet out onto the ballroom floor. He struck a pose and Adam's jaw dropped. He knew immediately what song it was when it started. He heard the unmistakable beat of 'Billie Jean' by Michael Jackson. Dawson began, step for step, movement for movement, performing Michael Jackson's dance moves for 'Billie Jean'. When he got to the moonwalk part, Adam gasped. He clapped his hands together once and laughed with joy. He began to whistle using his fingers while Dawson performed for him. When the song was over, Adam stood in disbelief. "How do you know how to do that?" Adam asked with amazement, "That was incredible!" Dawson was breathing heavily as he came toward Adam. "My best friend and I growing up wanted to learn how to moonwalk. So we watched the video over and over, so we could figure it out. We both learned how to moonwalk. Plus, I learned all the dance moves," Dawson said as he reminisced fondly. "That's awesome. Do you still keep in touch?" Adam asked. "Yeah, his family were the ones who took me in when my parents kicked me out, before I moved in with Cassie. He's truly a good friend. He's married with a baby now. She's adorable. You'll have to meet them," Dawson said with enthusiasm. "Definitely," Adam said with excitement. Adam still had a look of awe on his face as he made his way to the chair. He looked at the screen as he went through the catalog. Dawson moonwalked his way over to the French doors and spun around to look outside. "Oh..." Adam said softly. "What?" Dawson said as he looked over. "Nothing...it was...never mind, it will shift the mood too much..." Adam said "What was it? Did it mean something to you?" Dawson asked. "Yeah, but I'll find something else," Adam said still looking at the screen. "No," Dawson said firmly, "play it." "What? You don't even know what it is...it's not the right mood..." Adam tried to protest. "Adam," Dawson said with a reprimanding tone. Adam turned to look at him. "If it means something to you, I want to hear it," Dawson said as he started to walk over. "Hhhhh," Adam sighed, "ok, ok, but... ok..." "Tell me what it means to you," Dawson said gently as he got to the half wall. Adam turned in his chair to face Dawson. "It was a song my mom used to play for me when I was little. She said she played it for me all the time after I was born and she would sing along with it," Adam said. He turned back in the chair to face the screen. He took a deep breath, exhaled, and then pressed play. Instrumental music began to play. Dawson tilted his head, trying to figure out what song it was. Then he heard Harry Connick, Jr. sing, "The first time... ever I saw your face." Dawson came over to Adam as the song played. He put his hands on his shoulders and squeezed them. He turned him in the chair and held out his hand. Adam's watery eyes looked up at him. He took Dawson's hand and stood up. They embraced and began dancing, slowly, right in that spot. As the music played, Adam began sobbing softly. When the music ended, Dawson stopped moving and they held each other. Adam pulled back and sniffled. He held onto Dawson as they stood less than a foot apart. "You know, every time I've heard that song, I think about my mom holding me in her arms, in a rocking chair, looking down at me, singing. I have no idea if that ever really happened. But that's the image I've had in my head. Until now. This time, all I could think about was when we met on the porch of the funeral home. The first time I saw you. You looked so wounded. I just wanted to protect you. This song has a different meaning for me now," Adam said. Dawson began to tear up and they embraced again. They held each other for several minutes. Dawson pulled back and sniffled. "I only have one thing to say right now," Dawson said. Adam looked at him with anticipation. "How the hell am I supposed to pick another song after that?" Dawson said, a smile breaking out halfway through the sentence. Adam smiled. "Good luck," Adam said with mirth as he gestured to the chair. Dawson chuckled as he took the chair. He searched for a bit while Adam wiped his eyes and sniffled. "Ok, I got one," Dawson said, "Do you know the story behind 'Hey There Delilah', by the Plain White T's?" Dawson asked. "No, but I love that song," Adam said. "The guy wrote it for a girl who he liked, but she was dating someone else. I found the simplicity of it so appealing. And the words... I love the pureness of them," Dawson said. Dawson hadn't realized that he had described their situation, with Dawson attracted to Adam who was engaged. Dawson simply loved the song. But Adam got the connection right away. He wasn't sure if Dawson wasn't aware or if he was just pretending. Either way, Adam found it charming. Dawson pressed play. The song started playing with just the acoustic guitar. Dawson stood and closed his eyes. The words softly came out of his mouth as he began to sing. Adam could hear Dawson's beautiful voice as he let himself feel the emotion in the lyric. When the song got to the chorus, Dawson opened his eyes and looked at Adam as he sang, 'Oh, what you do to me...'. He kept singing as he moved closer to Adam and took his hands. He sang the rest of the song looking at Adam, holding his hands. When the song ended, Dawson leaned his forehead against Adam's. They stayed like that for a while. Adam pulled away and Dawson released his hands. "There's only one song I can play now..." Adam said softly. He went to the controls and clicked a few buttons. Then he looked at Dawson. "I love this song. It seems to speak to what love is. He had nothing to give but a song, not realizing the song was amazing and it was everything," Adam said and then pressed play. Elton John's 'Your Song' began to play. Adam stood up and held out his hand. Dawson took it. Adam led him out to the ballroom floor. They began to dance to the music. They both began softly singing as they held each other. When the song ended, they kept on dancing. Eventually, Dawson turned so his lips were near Adam's ear. "I want to be with you after the six months is over," Dawson whispered as he choked up. "Me, too," Adam said. They embraced. "This is crazy," Adam whispered. "I know," Dawson whispered back. They stayed like that for a few more minutes. Dawson pulled away slowly. They looked at each other. Adam spoke first. "I could go for a drink. You?" Adam asked. "Yes!" Dawson said exaggeratedly. "I'll shut down the audio controls. You want to close the drapes?" Adam said. "Sure," Dawson said. Dawson moved toward the panel on the wall. Adam started walking toward the corner. He shut down the controls and then he pulled the 'Book of 1000 Puns' out of the drawer near the controls where he had hidden it earlier. He flipped to a page he had dog eared. "Hey, Dawson. What kind of music are balloons afraid of?" Adam read, "Pop music...heh...heh...heh..." Dawson looked up and saw the book in Adam's hands. He clenched his jaw and pressed the button to close the drapes. "I knew I should have destroyed that book..." Dawson said with a grin as he started toward Adam. "Ha..." Adam couldn't control his laughter, "When is a key not a key?" he giggled as he read another pun from the book. Dawson was almost upon him. Adam began scooting backward as he read. "Give me that book!" Dawson said half laughing. "When it's a mon-key... Get it? Monkey?" Adam said as he was moving away from Dawson. He pulled the book back as Dawson lunged for it. Then Dawson stopped. He looked at Adam with a funny look. "A monkey! Oh my god! That's it! Come with me!" Dawson said excitedly. He reached his hand out to Adam and Adam jerked the book back. "Seriously, keep the book. I don't care. Come with me!" Dawson said. He grabbed Adam's hand and dragged him. Adam found his footing and kept up with him. "Where are we going? What does monkey mean?" Adam said as he tried to keep up. ========== If you liked this story, tell me: djwarner1984@hotmail.com And then donate to Nifty: https://donate.nifty.org/ -DJ
