This is a work of fiction, and all events come from my own mind. (And Jesse's) Enjoy! --Alec Listening From The Bathroom Am I losing my mind? I'm waiting at the hotel door for a man I met two days ago. He wants to have breakfast with me. I tap my foot impatiently, hoping he'll hurry the hell up. It's not like I have somewhere to be, but I don't like standing here. I look around self-conciously, the only one in the lobby. It is eight o'clock in the morning, so I take it that they're still sleeping. Finally, Ian stepped out of the elevator. His shaggy brown hair was poking out from under his beanie. His tight jeans made his bulge more noticable, and his plaid button up was missing the top button. He smiled at me, his once thick beard trimmed down to a five o'clock shadow. He stood next to me, sweeping the hair out of his eyes. "Morning. You ready?" He asked, his accent fresh to my ears. I nodded, and he opened the door for me. How chival. His truck rumbled to life, and I clicked on the heat. He smiled wryly, and pulled out of the parking lot. Dunkin' Donuts was only two minutes away, so I tried not to get comfortable. Ian kept his eyes on the icy road. Moments later, we pulled into the pavement of Dunkin' Donuts. I quickly hopped out of the truck, almost running to the door. Why was he taking his sweet, precious time? The diner's warm air hit me full blast, and I graciously accepted it. I sat a booth near the window, watching Ian check the tires. He turned around, stamping the snow off his moccasins. His eyes were squinted, almost as if he were angry. He entered the diner moments later, the bell dinging. A new waitress smiled at him. "Only one working today?" I asked. She looked at me, uncertainty on her face. "Oh, no"she tried to laugh. "Okay..." I replied, looking at the ground. She turned around, heading to the back of the restaurant. Ian sat down at the table, folding his hands on the top of the table. I tried to smile at him, but his serious look melted it. I messed with the salt, and the waitress walked to our table. She placed a cup of orange juice on my table, and another in front of Ian. "On the house," she smiled. She quickly turned around, her hand knocking off the juice. It spilled on my pants, my shirt becoming damp. Great. "I am so sorry!" She cried, grabbing a cloth from the counter. My front was wet, and she started to pat at it. An awkward pause, and she handed me the rag. I laughed, and stood up. "Sorry, I didn't know if you wanted to..." She apologized. Ian smirked. I glared at him, and headed to the bathroom. The smell of bleach rising into my nose. I grabbed the handle of the paper towel dispenser, and pulled multiple times. I pulled the towels out, and patted my pants. On the blue jeans, it didn't stain. I rinsed my hands off in the sink, and dried them off. I fixed my hair in the mirror before leaving. I checked my phones messages, but there were none. Of course. My parents aren't planning on calling me anytime soon. I tried to listen as Ian and the waitress conversed. None of which I could comprehend. "He's not ready, Ashley!" I heard Ian shout. I jumped. Pressing on further, I tried to get as close to them without being seen. "I think he is! He obviously hasn't rejected you!" She countered. "It was a mistake to ask you." He said, his voice normal. "And what the hell is that supposed to mean?" "All I'm saying is that you're not his responsibility. He could walk out of your life, and you wouldn't look back. It's different with me." "You're right." She sighed. "I do like the orange juice bit, though." He laughed. That was on purpose? Bitch. "I needed to talk to you, but he was here. Why did you bring him?" "He said he'd never had a donut from here." "How sweet." She replied. I could hear the sarcasm in her voice. I turned to make an entrance. A familiar tune rang, and I dropped my phone. A new text message. The voices stopped. Fuck! "Riley?" Ian called. I stopped breathing. How'd he know Richard was my middle name? I walked out the bathroom entrance, and cautiously smiled. He slammed his hand on the table. "Great." Ashley moaned. I sat at the table, Ian's anger practically warming me. "What did you hear?" He asked. "Everything..." I replied. He laughed a bitter laugh. "Everything," He repeate, "Every-fucking-thing." "I-" I started. "Get in the car." He cut me off. Who the hell did he think he was. Get in the car, my ass. "Get. In. The. Car." He repeated. With every word, his anger got stronger. I nervously stood, looking at Ashley. She turned her head, not looking back. I opened the door, and headed to the car. My door was locked, and I tried to pull it open. I looked back at Ian, who was staring at me by the way, and he looked at his side. I walked over, and opened it. Climbing over the seats, I pulled my seat belt over me. A minute later, Ian was opening his door. He slammed the door shut, and rammed the keys in the car. His foot slammed on the accelaration, and he didn't stop. "Hand me my hotel key in the back." He ordered. I took off my seatbelt, and reached around Ian's seat. I almost lost my balance, Ian's speed increasing. I pulled it out of a cup, and plopped back in my seat. The ground under us lurched, the car spinning. The ice. I leaned against my door, trying to grab on the door. My hand caught hold, and I pulled myself against it. The door swung open, and I yelled. I grabbed at Ian, only to miss. I hit the pavement, my elbow slamming hard against it. I cried out in pain, closing my eyes. My head landed in a pile of snow, and my ears stung. I kept my eyes closed, trying to keep from puking. The cold air stung, and I shivered. A dark shadow stood over me. I was lifted from the ground, my chest pressed against it. The warmth of the person kept me from passing out. I slowly opened my eyes. Above me, Ian looked down at me. I put my head against his chest, closing my eyes. "Your okay." His soft voice soothed. I closed my eyes, and he lifted me into his arms. If you have any questions, comments, or constructive criticism, you can contact me at:AKissDownUnder@live.com!
