It's our first day and I don't want to be late." Syrena stated, dragging me through the halls on our way to our homeroom, she almost pushed a girl out of a window. I was super nervous. It was like first day of school all over again, I felt like a high schooler. What if nobody liked me? What if it's too hard? Or, what if I couldn't do magic? "Calm down Syre. We've plenty of time." I said trying to play it cool, but all of a sudden she stopped. "What did you just call me?" She asked glaring at me. "Syre. I thought it would be a good nickname." I said, suddenly feeling guilty as I shouldn't have called her that. "If you don't like it, I...I..." "No, I love it! It's just, nobody has called me that since my mom...Before...you know, before she...died." She smiled, remembering her mother and then shrugged her shoulders and started walking at her previous speed even though a tear rolled down her cheek. We arrived at the class five minutes later. Other than two students already sitting there waiting the room was empty. Syre and I sat at the side of the room that was near the window. Not too near the front, but it wasn't too near the back either. Sort of in the middle. I was looking out the window, lost in my thoughts when I felt a tap on my leg. "Wolfanger." Syre said looking straight at Jonathan. He was at the back of the room sitting next to another Shapeshifter, but worst all MJ was sitting behind me. I do not like that guy. Something about him was odd, maybe it was his beautiful personality or that he was so approachable. Jonathan looked at me and waved smiling that smile of his that I already loved. "Since when are you and the dog such good friends?" Asked Syre. "We're not good friends. We're roommates, that's all. Why do you hate Shapeshifters so much?" "Because they're beasts, with no feelings. They don't care who gets hurt. They only care about themselves." She said looking angry. "Ok, I feel some kind of personal beef here? If you need to talk about it, I'm here for you." "Hi Nick." Suddenly there was Theo in front, he appeared as if out of the blue. I jumped and he laughed. "Hi Theo." I said, a little upset "Sorry. Who's this beautiful friend of yours?" He asked, clearly flirting with Syre. "This beautiful friend can speak by herself thank you very much!" "Nice, a fierce one!" Grinned Theo. "Amadeus, Theodore Vladimir Amadeus." He was still grinning as he gave her a killer look. Syre was not impressed. "Syrena Zieba, and I know who you are. The heir to the Day-walker Vampire Clan is a very well known personality." "Touché." Theo was about to reply when the professor came in. He was young, too young if you ask me. He looked as if he had recently graduated himself. Everyone took their seat. Theo sat at the table in front of us. "Good morning everyone. My name is..." The Professor spoke in a very British accent, but was interrupted as the door burst open. "Sorry professor. I got lost in the halls." Alexander said, trying to catch his breath. The truth was that when I got up he was still asleep. When I went down to eat breakfast? He was still asleep. Now he looked freshly showered, his neck length black hair was wet and his shirt was buttoned up wrong. Now that I look at him, he was actually quite sexy. Not Jonathan sexy, but sexy nonetheless. He had a great body and his skin was not black nor white, he was mixed. Yesterday he explained to that he was from Cuba, a Caribbean island. That in his country people like him were called mulattos. He had full lips and his eyes were light green. "Yes, the halls...OK. I am going to let it go because today is the first day. Now go take a seat mister...?" The Professor said. "Rodriguez, Alexander Rodriguez." Alexander said, as he took the last empty seat. "Ok. As I was saying before this innocent and lost child interrupted me, my name is William Smith. You can call me Mr. Will. The mister part is the rules of the school and since Mr. Smith reminds me of my father, I prefer to be called Mr. Will." As the professor was speaking I noticed that he already had a fan club. All the girls in the room were looking at him as if he was a piece of meat. He was good looking, very good looking. He had a mahogany skin color and a great body. As great and muscular as Jonathan. He had what looked like a military haircut, possibly the navy and his teeth shone every time he smiled. I swear I could go blind looking at them. He continued "As I see a lot of different species in this class most of your classes will be separate for obvious reasons with the exception of history, sciences and that includes Math..." As he said that there was a disappointed groan "uhhh" from the students but he continued, "...literature, philosophy, psychology. Then finally you will have training and defence together. "Magic students will study: introduction to magic, spellcasting, potion, botany and many other subjects. The rest of the species will study different subjects according to their species. As you see, magic students have a lot on their plate. That is why I will be your professor in Introduction to Magic and the few that pass to the next semester will see me in more advanced classes. "Oh and there is a student that couldn't be here today, because he can't fit through the door. He is a semi-giant and a wizard. His name is Alastor." I remembered him as it was difficult not to see him yesterday. He is almost three meters tall and had the complexion of a bull. So yeah, pretty big. I can't imagine how big real giants are. "Every day the first period you will be with me, in another room..."He looked around and grinned, "...A bigger one, with a bigger door...for Alastor! The next period you Magics will have Introduction to Magic. It will be taught in Ferim's Temple today. Shapeshifters, the next period you have special training with Mr. Daniels in the Gym. Fairys you need to be at the Clock tower with Miss Yun Hui." The professor continued going through all of the classes for the different races. All I heard was "...blaa blaa blaa blaa blaa blaa." I was looking out the window, you see our classroom was on the cliff side of the castle. In the valley beneath us was a very deep forest. There was a big river and a little lake in the valley, except for that the forest occupied it all. I was lost in thought when Mr. Will asked, "Who hasn't turned 18 yet?" Syrena, Johnathan, Alexander, MJ, Theo and a couple of girls I didn't know raised their hands. I looked around and then raised mine. The Professor continued, "WOW a lot of minors." He chuckled. "Which of you are Magics?" He asked and again, Alexander, Syrena and one of the girls other than me all raised our hands. "Quite a few non declared, good. I love non declared as you are so full of potential." Non declared, what he was talking about? I raised my hand and he looked at me, "What do you mean when you call us `Non Declared'?" I asked, "Sorry, but I am new in all this." He looked at me, "Yes sorry. Non declared means that your magic is still undefined. Magic begins when you turn 18. Your magic then declares that you are grand or minor. For example, I am a Grand White Wizard. That means, that my magic is more powerful than a Minor White Wizard. The white or dark is chosen, but the other part is not. Grand Witches and Sorcerers are rare, Grand Wizards even rarer. When do you turn 18?" He asked. "December 22nd." I answered. There was a pause, "Winter solstice?" He asked surprised. "Yes, how odd. My birthday is the same day." Said Syrena. "Mine also." Said Alexander. "No, this has to be impossible. You see my birthday is also on that day." Said Theo. "It can't be. Mine is as well." Said Johnathan. MJ began to laugh, "Great, just great, what are we? That is also my birthday. It will be even funnier still if those two girls also born on December 22nd as well." MJ said as we all looked at the girls. They were nodding and that was when MJ stopped laughing. "That is impossible. The odds of it are one in a billion..." Professor Will said, "...and that night in particular is..." He never finished because the Dean walked in. "Good morning students. Professor Smith..." Said the dean "I came here to greet you and to offer my aid in any problem you may find." At that he looked directly at me and left. Suddenly the bell rang and everybody started to leave. I looked around and realized that there 13 students in the class, so with me and the semi-giant that made 15 students per classroom. The professor told us to wait in Sairei's Garden. I asked Syre who Ferim was and she said, that he was the God of magic. The father of genies. The god of the humour, joy, music and most important of all parties and celebrations. I loved this God already. Syrena was talking with Alexander and one of the girls who also turned 18 the same day as the rest of us. They were seated well away from everyone. The Semi Giant was so still that sometimes you forgot he was there. Yeah, I know not seeing a 10 feet tall mass of muscle the size of a car, but that was an ability they had. They sit or stand so still, barely breathing then their magic steps in and confuses you, It tricks your brain into believing they are a big rock or a tree. There was also another guy and a girl waiting. We all were someway near the talking tree, but I was the closest. I was wondering why yesterday the Arboriloquenti woman looked at me like she did as I touched the tree. "What did you tell her?" I wondered looking at the tree. "The truth." A voice said coming from nowhere. It was like the voice that was inside of my mind. "I now see that you are an Arboriloquenti." I looked at the rest of the group and they were frozen. I looked at my father's wristwatch, the one that I started to wear after the accident and it had stopped too. "No, I can't be. I don't even know what or who I am yet. Can you tell me?" "No. I can't tell you for that is against the rules." said the voice "What rules?" "The rules of the universe boy! Rules that are dictated by the Gods. You have no idea how little we are in the universe. We are not alone. There are many worlds like ours. Now, that doesn't mean that we are insignificant, it means that everything has to be done for a greater good. The greater good dictates that you have to figure out who you really are for yourself, but I can help a little. "There are beings who can tell you where you came from. People that do not respect the rules. Most celestial beings know. Then there are dragons, demons, or angels. You may even find an elf or even an old giant willing. Possibly Atalanta the mermaid queen, but we are not the only ones for there is a witch that could help, her name is Baba Yaga, but be careful." As it stopped talking everything began to move again. I looked at my watch, the time was moving also. "Nick, come on!" Shouted Syre as Professor Smith was already there. I walked towards the rest of the group and everybody started walking, following the professor heading to the woods. We had walked for about five minutes when we found a mirror in the middle of the woods. It was a standing mirror. "Here we are." Announced Professor Smith. "Really? This is the temple? Ya te digo yo que esta gente esta loca." Said Alexander. I was confused as I understood every word and yet I have never studied Spanish. He said (I tell you these people are crazy). "Mr. Rodriguez, English please. Oh and one of my gifts is Lingua. So I understand every language. The joke is on you sir" Professor Smith said, "...and yes this is the temple. If you see only a mirror in the woods, then this school is not for you." he added I looked at the mirror. It looked old, but well polished. The frame was exquisite; it was a silver filigree with embedded black crystals. It was 6 feet tall and like 3 feet wide, but nothing seemed to be holding it. It was hanging there in mid-air. The designs of the frame represented angels, demons, elves, dragons, trees (maybe talking trees), phoenixes, griffins, unicorns, mermaids and giants. So it represented each one of the celestial races. In the middle of everything was a river and a ten pointed star and above it all were ten symbols, one for each God. I stared at the looking glass. I looked at myself, but I was not looking at a depressed one legged gay boy anymore. No. I was looking at a wizard. I was wearing a pair of jeans and a navy blue hoodie, under that I was wearing like three layers of clothes. My usually messy black hair was today well groomed. I had this kind of hipster haircut not my chose believe me, but three sisters can be a little convincing. I tried to grow a beard, but it was impossible. My sky blue eyes were glowing, but this time constantly. I had a kind of lean body, but I also had muscle and was well defined. Not that it noticed under all the clothes. I looked at my smiling face... Wait a minute! I wasn't smiling. Then, my reflection winked at me and smiled a little more. I started to walk towards the mirror as the reflection started walking, but it looked different. When I was standing before it I looked at my eyes and touched the glass. The second that I touched it I was in different place. This place did look like an old temple, but it seemed well maintained. The floor was made of black marble, but it was as if all of the floor was one single stone. There were pillars made of white marble. Then there was an altar at the end of the room. On that was a statue representing what looked like a man, but it wasn't. The statue was made of pure gold. The statue had four arms and in each hand there was an eye. It also had skin full of marks and symbols. It looked powerful and beautiful. He was worth respect, but he also looked gentle and affable. He was a God. He was... "Ferim, the great, the powerful, the all mighty." Alexander said, who was suddenly behind me "He's awesome! I love the statue. He looks...He looks like a father." Soon all of the people started appearing out of thin air. The last one was Professor Smith. "Congratulations Mr. Afanasiev. You already have ten points towards your grade. Awesome! I have never seen a student figure it out so fast. Now everyone, welcome to the Sanctuary. Welcome to Ferim's temple. This is a safe house for every wizard, witch or sorcerer in distress. It is a place for seeking peace. Now, let's take a seat shall we?" He said walking towards a group of cushions on the floor. We followed and took a seat. I was seated between Alexander and Syre. I wondered what my sisters were doing. "Today we are going to learn your abilities. These abilities are the ones that you were born with. They will develop as part of your magic. Almost everybody has Telekinesis. That is an almost certainty. Now let's begin with you Mr. Afanasiev. Try to catch that sword, but with your mind." I was going to protest this seemed very dangerous, but something told me I could do it. I did, without thinking the second I put my mind to it. I did it. It was like a psychic hand grabbing the sword. It floated in the air before me. I ordered it to come to me. It was a ceremonial sword, beautiful in every detail. I touched it and words began to come into my mind which I felt compelled to speak. "Oculus, Electrum, Elementum, Corpus, Metamorphia, Levita, Clairvoyance, Transport, Cronus, Lingua, Arboriloquentia, Catarsis, Mandate and Presence and Telepathy" I said before I let go of the sword in shock. What were these words? I didn't understand anything that I had just said. I guessed they were my powers. I looked at the professor and he was beyond surprised. I'd even say a little afraid "What's wrong?" "It's impossible to have that many powers. You must have been tricking the sword. The thing is whether you're doing it or not it's scary. Very, very scary." He said. What was I? All my life I wanted to be included, but now... "What's your background? Who are your family?" "My parents are dead, killed in an accident." "Who were they?" The Professor Asked. "I don't know. My father's name was Nikolas Afanasiev, my mother was Viviane De Lumiere." As I said that all of the people in the Temple stood. So I stood with them. They then shocked me to the core as they turned to face me and knelt with bowed heads. "Your highness." The Professor said as he bowed his head. "What are you talking about?" I shouted, starting to pace the floor panicking as running my hands through my hair. "Oh Nick! You don't know do you?" Gasped Syre. "What don't I know? No one has ever told me anything about this world. They tried to keep it from me." "Nick...Your family are royalty." Said Syre bowing her head also. ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ That's all for now folks ...
