Deviant Magic Episode 04. – Survival After having said goodbye to Ari and Ian I walk towards Moorea and my new life as a mage. My thoughts were swirling with ideas of what life might be like. I wonder if there are many mages in a big city like Moorea. I've never been outside Treya, so I have no clue what to expect outside stories I've heard from my uncle or the village kids. I walk along the main road for several hours before it gets dark and I decide to step away from the path and make camp for the night. I had a large breakfast at the tavern, so I decide to only have some apples to make life easier. I've never had to go hunting before and I'm not sure I would be any good at it. I sit down and put my bag against a tree as the sun sets. As I look south, I can only see forests as far as my eye can see but when I look east, to where Ari and Ian went, I can see the Gaelic range mountains stretching across the distance. I know their city is at the base of the mountain from what they told me. I sit down and resolve myself to try the meditative spell Aldur taught me. It should let me communicate with Vox more and learn from him. I sit down with my legs crossed as I take my index finger to my mouth. I bite down on my finger with my sharpest tooth until I prick it and it starts to bleed a little. Pulling the top of my tunic down I draw Vox's rune between my firm pecs. As I finish, I place my hands on my legs as I close my eyes and concentrate on Vox, his image, his rune. In the darkness of my mind I see his antlers and his fire. But nothing else. I feel his presence and he waits for my questions. I project my questions at him. What are you the god of? Can you teach me some spells? What should I do? It wasn't my intention to ask so much but it just came slipping out. A part of me feels lost and thrown into this new world I know nothing about. I almost crave guidance. I hear his booming voice. It's like I hear it both inside myself as well as from outside. "When you learn more. Then I shall teach you... Impress me and be rewarded. Here is an opportunity now... Hurt them, as they have hurt countless others." What does that mean? I have no more answers now than when I first began. My god seems to be a lover of riddles. My thoughts are interrupted by Vox's voice screaming. "Open your eyes!" I jump at the aggressiveness of Vox's voice and immediately open my eyes and I see three men approaching. All with knives in their hands. All human. They are only a few feet away and stop when I open my eyes. I stand up to face them as I look them over. They all look dirty and rugged. They are all skinny and with pale skin. The guy on the left is missing a tooth and with a raggedy grey tunic with no shoes he has unkempt brown hair flowing down to his shoulders. The guy in the middle has short black hair and gaunt face as he's wearing a black tunic with holes in it. The guy on the right has short brown hair and looks equally thin and they all share a look of desperation on their faces. The guy in the middle speaks up. "Hello there, little man. Me and my brothers mean you no harm, we just want what you have, then we'll be on our way. No one has to get hurt here, ya see?" All three men smile and nod in agreement. I have no idea what to do but with magic at my disposal I must be able to do something. I decide to test my luck. I look as stern and serious as I can muster, as I say. "You shall have nothing of mine. I am a mage with no intention of hurting you either." As my words come out, I notice the men stop their slow advancement. I hope telling them I'm a mage is enough to scare them away. I remember Vox's words, they didn't make much sense then, but they do now. They've hurt countless others? Suddenly I feel the urge to hurt them as I now know they have hurt others. Images flare up in my head of people dying at the hands of these men. What is this? I see images of blood and I hear screaming as these men laugh over corpses... The guy on the right speaks up. "If he's a mage, we might be best to leave him alone." "No way this kid is a mage. They're all grumpy ol' rags. Nah, nah, he's bluffing" He says as he thrusts his knife in my direction, clearly getting angry at their own hesitation. I decide its time to defend myself. But how? I think back to what I've learned when the words echo back to me in my mind. I can control the main elements with my mind, without using spells... My serious glare at the men comes back and this time I mean it. "You sure? If you come at me, I can't guarantee your lives." I say. A second after I say it, I'm surprised at my words. That wasn't quite what I wanted to say. Vox must have guided my words again. Why is he helping me like this? "Get him!" The boss screams as all three-start running towards me. I panic for a second but resolve myself to hit them head on. I focus my thoughts on fire. I don't need Ifrit, I have Vox. Balling both my hands into fists I slam them together and as I do, I channel my magic and my thoughts of fire into my hands. They erupt into fists of Purple flames as I duck the first guy with his knife. My reflexes are pretty good from the physical work I've done along with life in the forest. I see the hesitation in their eyes as they become scared of my flaming hands, but I take the opportunity to attack. I sprint towards the boss with the black hair and as my flames come closer, he instantly steps back away from the flames, and I punch him right in the chest as I hear a crack. He falls to the ground against a tree, unconscious. The others close in on me and I manage to dodge a swing from one of the guys as I put my hands out and usher flames to engulf him. He starts to scream as the flames surround him and burn him at every angle. It feels good to watch him burn. The last guy, with long hair looks at his brother with fear and sadness in his eyes. I like the rush I'm feeling, my heart pounding, I taste iron in my mouth. "How many have you hurt?" I demand from the last guy standing. He looks back at me and then turns to run away. I won't let him... I kneel down and shove my hands into the ground as I think back to what I had seen Aldur do, many times. And as quickly as I think it, vines spring up from the ground and stop the man in his tracks by wrapping his legs. He jerks forward almost looking as if he's going to fall to the ground. But with his legs bound he's forced to stay standing. "How many people, have you hurt?!" I say again, this time yelling in anger. I want them to suffer. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I didn't want to hurt anyone. It was Gar, who made us." The man now, completely frightened says as he points to the brother who's unconscious from my punch. "You didn't answer me. How many... I won't ask again." I say as I step forward to stand in front of him. I can feel my anger in my cheeks. It's like I'm burning up from a fever. "Many! I don't know. Lots of people. Sometimes they just give us what we want, but sometimes they fight back, and we end up hurting them... Or killing them... I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry!" He says now with tears running down his cheeks as he looks down at the black corpse of his dead brother. I don't need to hear anything else. As the burning brother is now crumpled onto the ground in black char, I feel a sense of relief that a man that dangerous is no longer alive. My anger at his words can't be contained and I stomp my foot into the ground as I will another vine up. It slinks up and towards the mans face. I guide it down his throat and he can't help but gape in panic. I move it down his gullet as he gasps for air and gags. When it reaches a point, I think he might die, I leave it and it freezes in place. I summon another vine that goes up his tunic. I don't need to see where it goes as I lead it up the man's legs and towards his ass. The vine forces its way into his asshole without any lube or easing into it as the man tries to scream in pain. I make sure that as the vine goes deeper into his ass it becomes thicker and thicker at the base, forcing his opening to expand painfully. He screams as best he can with the vine in his gut. I leave him there as I turn to the man on the ground. My anger is still throbbing in my head. Vox has now shown me several images of men, women and children being killed by these men. Sometimes for as little as scraps of food. These men kill before they know what people even have on them. It's unforgivable. I can feel how they enjoyed it. How they took pleasure in hurting defenceless children... I summon four vines that grab the boss man Gar and pulls him in all four directions as he's spread eagle in the air. He comes to and starts screaming in terror as he sees the burnt corpse of his brother and the other being violated from two ends. There's blood running down the leg of the man with the vine in his ass. My flames have dissipated and as the boss screams, I punch him hard in the throat. He coughs as and screams but now his voice is so hoarse I can barely hear him. I forcefully shove a fist thick vine up his ass as well while simultaneously sending another vine to fill his mouth like his brother. I don't force it down his throat but leave it in his mouth and make it expand so his entire jaw is wide open to its fullest. Then I lift his tunic and see his soft cock hanging at a measly 3 inches. I summon a tiny vine-stem that moves up at my will, like a snake dancing to my tune. It goes and wraps around his cock as thorns grow on it while twisting around his limp dick. He screams in pain. I look him dead in the eye. Tears now running down my face as I know I've never been this angry in my whole life. "Siri, the 7-year-old girl whose parents you murdered in front of her. The girl you raped for nearly a month before she died... Siri says hi." I say calmly. His eyes go wide as I shove the small vine up his urethra with tiny barbs along the side. I shove it as far in as it will go, and I leave it there. I twist the brothers, so they look each other in the face. Both of them are screaming in pain and terror as I pick up my bag and walk away while I say. "All vines will continue to expand endlessly. I wonder who dies first." I walk away from the screaming men and Vox shows me the image of Siri in the darkness of my mind. She smiles at me and I know I've done the right thing. I walk for nearly an hour before I fall onto the grass on my knees with tears streaming down my face. I don't know what got over me. As I was attacking those men... Killings those men... Vox was sharing images of the people these men had killed. They had been so brutal to so many people and done such horrible things to young children. My bloodlust took over and I lost myself. I didn't intend to be so violent, but it also felt good to punish them. Like I was avenging the dead. I had never felt like that in my entire life. I was both terrified of it, but I also felt relieved. I sit on my knees, in the dark forest for a while before I decide I want answers from Vox. I felt his influence during my rage. I felt his guidance on how to hurt these men. This time I touch the blood rune still on my chest and I feel much more forceful with my questions this time. I deserve answers! "What happened? What did you do?" I yell out at the image of Vox. His voice comes to me. "I did nothing but show you some of their past deeds. Some of the images were from their future. Which you, now, prevented... I wondered what your reaction would be... I'm impressed." His voice calms me and as the images flash before my eyes again I know I did the right thing by killing them. I just... didn't know I had it in me... All this anger... It's scary. "You can see the future?" I ask. "I see what I need to see." He responds. Now that's the kind of response I would expect. Wait. He said he was impressed... "I'm glad I impressed you. Will you be teaching me something?" I project into myself. I can feel Vox smiling as a rune appears in my head and along with it comes information. The rune looks similar to the rune I saw in Vox's temple. I take a second to make sure I memorise it. I kneel down, take off my leather shoes and I lick my thumb and draw what looks like a semi circle with two straight lines going through it horizontally. I use my spit to draw this on the top of both of my feet and stand up to test it out. If I understand it correctly this should let me walk on any surface. I'm not entirely sure what that means but I take my left foot and place it on a nearby tree. I feel supported by the tree. In a move that I was sure would have me fall flat on my ass, I lift my right foot up. Leaving me nearly horizontal to the ground as my left foot stays connected with the bark of the tree and I balance my right foot in the air. I'm no longer bound by the ground. It's as if gravity has shifted to the tree. I don't feel strained; my blood isn't rushing to my head or anything. The only thing still tugging towards the ground is my tunic and my bag. I decide to test it a bit more and I take a step upwards, towards the thick branches covered in green leaves. As I walk upwards, it's as easy as walking on the ground. My mind is struggling to adjust to the sight of it all. To me it looks as if trees are sprouting up from a wall. Everything looks a bit off. I place a foot on the underside of a thick branch and again, I stick. As I place my second foot on the branch my bag and tunic both fall towards my head and up towards the ground. I realise I must look ridiculous if anyone happened to see me as my naked body is uncovered by my tunic hanging down towards the ground. I must look like a peeled banana or something. It's the strangest feeling. It's so natural to be standing like this, except my tunic holding on to my shoulders. It feels as if the ground has always been the roof and the sky is the ground. I laugh at the excitement as I slowly start walking back down the tree to the ground. What a fun magic. That's when it hits me. I don't feel the sense of fatigue I had felt during the banishment. Not even after all the magic I must have used on those bandits. And this new spell... I close my eyes to ask Vox when he must have felt my question, before I could even ask it. As soon as I close my eyes the words echo in my head. "I banish my limitations!" I hear my own voice yelling back at me. I can't believe it. What does this mean? I can use endless amounts of magic? I decide I'll leave it for now until I can get some answers at Moorea. I sit down against the trunk of a tree as I try to make myself comfortable. After a few moments I try to remember the spell Aldur had taught me, but the memory escapes me. How could I forget one of two spells I was taught... Ugh... There must be something I can do with the elements to sleep better. Something soft... That's when I remember what Ian had done. While on my knees I place both palms on the grass and send magic into the ground. As I focus, I feel something pushing out from the ground as I slow lift my hands A large thick bed of moss is growing beneath me. Once I'm satisfied, I lay down on the moss and place my two spare tunics over me for warmth as I fall asleep. When I wake up, I feel well rested but It's still dark and I can hear the birds and the forest coming alive. I sit up and have another apple, but I know it's not going to be very filling. I can make do for now... I immediately start heading back towards the road as I make my way south again, towards Moorea. By midday I see the first building, what looks like a travel tavern by the side of the road. There's a small stable next to it and I can hear horses neighing. Had I known this place was here I would have tried getting a room there instead. I decide not to step inside as I can see the city in the far distance. Just a few hours walk I estimate, and I would be there. I continue onwards and eventually I come across several forks in the road, all seem to be joining into the main road going into Moorea. I come across a horse and cart as I nod to the driver as he walks past me in the opposite direction. Eventually the dirt road reaches a small stone bridge that takes me over a river. On the other side of the bridge the city starts. With sleek grey slabs of stone covering the entire road the city looks nothing like my own village. Where my village had a total of about 10 houses with mostly farm land and forests this place is bigger than I can see. The main road going into the city has a stretch of houses on either side with very little space in between them. The houses are combinations of both stone and wood. I start walking in and I see the road leads to a huge fountain surrounded by merchants and stalls of people selling things. I've never seen such a crowd of humans; elves and I can even see dwarves. Oh wow! I've never seen dwarves before. Walking past me is a dwarven man with a bald head and a big beard growing in a dark brown shade. I stare as he walks past but he only grunts as he notices me staring. This is amazing. I walk up to the fountain and look around at all the different people. There are stalls for food, cloth, items, even weapons. Everything is available here. Then I spot something in the corner of my eye. For a moment I thought I saw Vox walking the street but when I turn, I see something else. It's a creature I've never seen before. It's clearly a man as his clearly defined muscles and pecs show but, on his head, he has two small horns piercing his skull. His face looks smooth and almost child like although he has the body of an adult. Where his legs would be, he's wearing the only clothes he's sporting, pants. Even through his pants I can tell that his legs aren't normal. From the bottom of his pant I see large tufts of hair sticking out and he has hoofs for feet. The legs are also shaped as if they're bent backwards a little. I simply stare at the creature as he walks past. I've never heard of anything like it in my life. I look down each street and the city expand in every direction from the fountain and I'm truly unsure where to start. I have 4 silver coins left after having bought breakfast for me and the twins the other morning. I need to find a place to stay and a way to make coin if I'm going to survive. I decide to walk towards the eastern district. I walk down the street and stare in amazement at the people and its buildings. Eventually the city comes to an end and I see the river flowing around the city here as well as the northern exit. I can't help but notice that this district seems much poorer than the northern area did. The buildings are smaller and look more worn, the ground has trash littered in the corner. Everything about this place feels less pleasant. I start walking back towards the fountain when I hear grunting coming from one of the narrow side streets between the buildings. I peek my head in and see two men fighting. It looks like more than that. There's a plump human being held against the wall by a long sword and a dark lithe character staring him straight in the face. I don't know why but when I see the fear in the fat man's face, I know I have to interfere. I walk into the side street. The lithe man has black long hair going into a pony tail and he's wearing pretty expensive looking leather pants and leather shirt vest over a white button-down white flowy shirt. "I... I'll get it. I swear. Just give me more time. Please." The fat man says, and I can hear fear in his trembling voice. "You know I don't like doing this old man. I only want what's mine. Nothing more. Nothing less..." His voice hisses out. He pushes the sword against the fat man's throat harder, to make his point all the more effective. He stops and turns as he sees me walking into the alley and towards them. "You better leave kid, if you value your life." He says. His face turns to me but he's still holding the sword against the fat man. "Let him go!" I scream out. Trying to emulate the serious face I had in the woods. I know I have magic on my side and after what I had done to those other three men, I feel invincible. The man doesn't say anything but takes a step back from the man he was threatening, and moves his sword stretched out towards me. It stops just under my chin as I stay solid on the ground. Not moving an inch. He examines me a bit more closely before he talks. "Brave... But stupid. You clearly made a mistake coming here. I feel generous and will let you walk away seeing as you are brave, but stupid." He says digging the tip of the sword towards my throat in a threatening manner. I feel my heart thumping as I try to think of ways, I can gain the advantage in this situation. His sword can easily cut through any vines I summon. I can feel that this man is much more experienced with a sword than the others in the forest. What can I do to metal? As the idea comes to me, I raise my hand in a surrender motion as they both come up with my palms out towards the man. As my hands get close to my head, I quickly tap my finger on the sword pressing against me. As soon as I do this, the sword catches fire. A purple flame covers the entire blade immediately, but I make sure it doesn't touch the man. I focus on the fire to be as hot as It can possibly be. This time I want to avoid killing him. This should be enough to scare him. The man takes a step back as he looks at his sword as it starts to melt almost instantly. Dripping iron drops onto the ground. He looks back at me in anger, but he doesn't seem nearly as surprised as I would have expected. I stare him straight in the eyes as I warn him. "I'll hurt you if I have to. Walk away and I'll..." I stop as my body jerks forward. I taste iron in my mouth as blood starts pooling on my tongue as I look down to the heat radiating in my stomach. I see the blade sticking out in front of me on the left side of my stomach. Blood is dripping down on the ground. My body jerks back as the blade retracts and I fall to my knees. The world goes silent as I hear blood rushing in my ears. I see black spots appearing in the corner of my vision as I look up to the man walking closer to me. I see his lips moving but I can't hear anything. It's all silent and dark. I see the fat man still standing with his back against the wall, tears running down his eyes now as he looks at me with sorrow in his face. I feel a hand on my shoulder from behind. The man wasn't alone. I should have known... I feel him pulling me back to my feet with force as the man in front of me punches me hard in the stomach again. I spit blood and fall to my knees and hands. Blood is running from my lips. I can't think straight. All I feel is fatigue. What can I do? I'm all alone, and untrained. What was I thinking, trying to help this man? I should have let him die... I feel a pulse from within me and I sense Vox's presence growing stronger and stronger. Like he's trying to help. While I'm on my knees and hands. As blood drips from my stomach and my mouth pooling on the ground I open my mouth to speak. "Vox... please help" The world goes black. I know I'm not sleeping or unconscious, it's all just black. I look around expecting the purple flame to appear like before, but instead I see myself. I see myself in my green tunic, my auburn hair and my mother's earring. I'm looking straight at myself as my image begins to change. From the top of my head I see two antlers growing and as they stop the purple flame appears between them. My eyes go pitch black and my lips turn shiny and black as well. My muscles start to grow everywhere and at the tip of my fingers, claws appear from my skin like the claws of a cat. My skin separates, and the claws appear as if they've always been there. Hiding beneath the tips of my fingers. I see my image starts moving in the blackness. It slashes into the air and blood stains both hands and claws. The image moves all over, running and jumping as if dodging someone. Then it throws its hands out and by the look, I would say it's holding someone in its hands. Then the lips part and where my tongue would be, there's nothing except razor sharp teeth that bite into something. Blood splatters the face... my face. I simply stand in the darkness, naked, watching this twisted image of myself seemingly killing what I assume to be those men. I have no clue what to make of this, but I feel a sense of protection and I feel safe. Which is a warm feeling I welcome. My mirror image stops. Walks up to me and stops, just a few inches away from my face. With blood running down his mouth he licks his lips and smiles. It's strange to see myself like this... "Thank you" I whisper as the image disappears. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I open my eyes and the fat man I had tried to save is standing over me, dabbing a wet cloth on my forehead. I blink several times as I sit myself up on my elbows. As soon as I move my body, pain shoots through me and I growl in response. I look down and I'm naked except for a soft pelt laying over my legs and groin. My stomach, where the sword had pierced me, is wrapped in blue cloth, I see dark red stains. I look around and I'm in a house. Probably the man's house. It's stupidly hot and I feel my entire body sweating. I look at the man as he speaks. "I'm glad you're alright, son. I'm not sure what I would have done if you had died..." He says with both sadness and happiness in his eyes. "I've called for someone who can help you, just, stay still and we'll look after you." I notice I'm lying on a sofa underneath a window and I look outside, and I notice feet walking past, I must be in a basement of sorts. I don't say anything but lay back down as the pain is flooding my system and I focus my thoughts on not screaming. I hear thuds as footsteps hit the stairs leading down into the basement at the other end of the room which seems fully made of stone. Down comes a young boy followed by what must be his mother. The boy looks terribly young, he has bright blond hair that is short but a bit curly. His eyes are bright blue, and he has long eye lashes that are accented by freckles across his tiny nose all the way down to his rosy lips. His mother is tall and thin, she has long dark blond hair that she's tied up in a bun on the top of her head as she's dressed in white dress with a green apron on top of it. They both rush up to the fat man and ask how I'm doing. He responds that I'm awake and that Luria should be here any minute. He mentions having used an alert stone. I'm drifting in and out of conciseness as pain floods my body. I see images flash before my eyes. One minute it's the fat man, the next it's the wife, then the young boy seems to be dragged away by the mother. As the image's flashes, I see the ceiling above me several times before I see a true goddess enter my view. Her silky blond hair touches my right cheek as it drapes over her shoulder. Her crystal-clear blue eyes look as if they are shining. I see her lips moving but I can't hear what she says as she puts her hands on my cheeks. They feel cold. I feel pressure on my wound and the world goes black. I open my eyes again and I'm in the same place as before. I look down at my body and I'm still wrapped up and covered in a pelt. My wound feels much better and I place my fingers on it lightly and there's pain, but almost non-existent. I look over to the room and the only light provided is by a stone furnace in the corner of the room which glows bright red. I see a large sword resting against the stone and multiple tools lying around. This must be a smith's house. Hence the heat. I'm still sweating as I ease my legs out from under the pelt to hit the floor. As I sit up, I notice my blue bag is sitting on the floor right below where my head was resting. On top of it, rests my green tunic. As I hold up the tunic, I see that the hole, where I was stabbed, has been stitched. I slip it over my head and cover my naked body as I start walking towards the stairs at the far end of the room. As I walk, I feel pain shooting across my body and I feel a sharp pain in my stomach from hunger... how long was I out? I walk up the stairs and reach a door at the top. I open it and step into a large room with a very large bed in one corner, tables and chairs in the other and a small area with benches and what looks like a strange wood contraption stretching from the ceiling down to the bench, which has a metal bowl etched into it. I realise it must be very late or the middle of the night as there are no lights except moonlight coming through the windows across the room. I see the family, all laying in bed. The dad is snoring quite loudly. I start making my way across to the other end of the room, to the front door. I'd be better off finding a tavern to rent a room. I shouldn't get involved with these people. Saving the fat man nearly got me killed. As I walk past their bed, I step on a wooden plank that makes a loud creak and the wife shifts in bed and opens her eyes and notices me. She gives a quick gasp before immediately sitting up. "You're awake! Geoff wake up! He's awake." She says as she turns around and starts slapping her husband on his large belly as he growls and finally wakes up. I look back at her as I say. "Thank you, um... for helping me but I should leave..." The wife looks offended. "No, no. We shall have none of that!" She nearly yells back in a rather high- pitched voice. "Sit down young man. You must be starving. Truly! You were out for 2 days you know?!" She grabs two small stones I recognise for kindling stones and she holds them against a candle she has on her wooden night stand next to the bed as the wick comes alive. She stands up and pushes me against the chairs and I'm forced to sit down. The husband maneuvers around the still sleeping boy who was between the parents as he gets up from the bed and walks over and takes a chair next to me. "I'm Geoff, this is my wife Lana, and our son Milo" He says as he points to his wife and son in bed. The son seems to be fast asleep, even though we're all talking and making noise. "I'm Leon..." I say hesitantly as I look over to the wife. She lights two more candles, one on the large table we're sitting at then another by the benches close to the front door. She moves to grab a wood tankard as she pulls a rope hanging from the strange wood contraption and suddenly water starts flowing down a pipe and she fills the tankard and brings it over to me. I take a large gulp of the water, as I drink, I realise how dehydrated I felt. The man continues to speak. "Leon, that's a good name. Thank you for helping me the other day. I was truly at my wits end. And I think you helped the city a little bit as well, getting rid of those thugs." I look at him in confusion. "I... I don't remember much after... after getting stabbed." I admit. The man almost yells in excitement. "Oh dear! Oh, you were brilliant! Just brilliant. I don't know exactly what kind of magic it was, but it was something else... You looked almost like a faun as you sliced and killed those two men in just a few seconds. It was a bit scary. I admit. And then you just collapsed. I saw that your wound was quite bad, so I brought you here. And I called my daughter to come help heal you. She's a mage too. She'll be so excited to meet you." A... Faun?... I feel absolutely lost. His excitement over magic is something I've never experienced before, and it nearly puts me off. His wife brings me a large plate of dried meat and bread with butter and almost as soon as she puts it down, I jump on it like a savage. I stuff my face with several bites before I look up. "Thank you. I'm so hungry" I say almost apologetically. "Hush now, don't speak with your mouth full. Just eat up then we'll give you a bed, we have an empty room upstairs since Luria, our daughter moved out a few months ago. You can stay there as thank you for saving my darling husband." She says as she strokes my hair a few times then sits down opposite me with her own tankard of water. I empty the plate of food in a few moments and feel my hunger pains fading fast. I look at the couple and thank them for the offer. "Are you new in town? What brings you to Moorea young man?" Geoff asks me. I look at him and he's human, like his wife and son, he has a double chin and a large belly pushing the fabric of his blue tunic. Over his tunic he also has a brown long vest that drapes down just below his knees, similar to the tunic. He has a small stubble on his face and his eyes are blue as well. His nose looks almost squished against his face. He's quite a bit uglier than his wife. "Yes, the day I met you was my first day in the city. I'm here to learn about magic at the library" I respond. "Oh, boy, I thought you might say that. You know that's where Luria studies... It's very expensive my boy. To study there you have to purchase an entry pass and they cost an arm and a leg I'm afraid." Geoff explains. I think they see the disappointment in my eyes as the wife speaks up. "Come now, we'll help you get settled then you just need to look for work. Mages can make coin doing almost anything around here. Shan't take long. In the wilderness you need smarts and a strong body to survive. In the city, you need coin to survive..." I can't help but think of how unprepared I am. I know less than the average educated person and here I am, away from the life I've always know. Trying to survive. Survival is going to be different in the city... *******************Next Episode coming soon. End of Episode 04. Episode that follows will contain: ****Monsters****Pre-Teen****Kelpie****Quest****Coin
