Derrick said hastily. I kept my eyes on the magicals and Derrick cranked up the car. Instantly the magicals grabbed onto the car and started climbing on top of it. Derrick shifted into first gear and floored it the sound of screeching tires filled the air. He careened onto the freeway, almost running another car off the road. One of the magicals jumped from the car, not wanting to get smashed by the semi truck that was right next to us. The remaining magical was on the roof, slamming magic into the car. Derrick spoke "It's ok. The only place that is vulnerable to magic is the windshield because you can't put a barrier spell on glass. It's magically transparent." Just as he said that the magical jumped down on the hood, standing tall. I was amazed that he was standing, and not being blown down by the wind, as we were now pushing 115 mph. The magical got a glint in his eye, and conjured one of those deathly looking black masses. Fear caused my body to tense and freeze up, unable to function I just stared at him. He pulled his arm back to hurl it at Derrick. The black mass of death energy came crashing through the windshield and was inches from ripping Derrick from my side when my feelings for him, his feelings for me, and his memories I had viewed passed before my eyes. He was looking over at me with eyes that spoke with a heartbreaking "goodbye." I was ripped from my revere, and out of sheer desperation screamed in agony as a massive blast of energy exploded from my body. This was the first of three times the power of desperation would be used. The dark magic threatening derrick was dwarfed out of existence by the ensuing shockwave that smashed the windows. The magical on the hood of the car was impaled onto a piece of wood hanging off the back of the log truck in front of us, but still grinning at me. The trees on the passenger side of the freeway were shaken, and the car on the driver's side was pushed off the highway into the median. I was exhausted from the largest use of magic in centuries, but just before I passed out I managed to think `glass' and the windows were restored. I awoke trying to make sure Derrick was ok and examine my surroundings. Derrick was quickly hovering over me however and spoke softly. "It's ok. We're safe." He caressed my face lovingly and instantly I was taken again by sleep. I opened my eyes to a dream. This time I knew it was a dream and felt as if a safety blanket was wrapped around me. It was a bright sunny day in a very bright green and grassy meadow. To my left was a peaceful pond with a few ducks swimming around on the surface. To my right, in the distance was a small settlement, a western town of some sort. On the horizon, snow capped mountains were reaching towards the sky. Above me, the blue sky was dotted with soft, wispy clouds. There were deer, squirrels, birds and all sorts of other animals in view. Slowly however, the animals started dying, falling over without warning. Birds started raining from the sky which was now beginning to turn a blood red. The green grass quickly turned to black soil, and the pond froze over almost in the blink of an eye. The snow on the mountains melted, leaving only jagged, deadly peaks. I looked towards the settlement, and the buildings dissolved into dust. "This is what happened to the earth during the last great war." A soft voice spoke from behind me. I turned to look at the speaker, and was saddened by the grim look upon the woman's face. I could only see her figure, and small details about her, but it was like she wasn't a clear picture. "How did it happen?" I asked solemnly. "The dark powers controlled the earth for nearly a century. I believe it is now called The Dark Ages. They sucked their power from the land, people, and any life they could get their hands on. Only when their greed for power resulted in chaos among their ranks did we finally have the opportunity to restore order. So many innocents died pointlessly, so many of us. Since that time, they have hidden, avoiding detection. It is rumored that they have been forming plans to retake control over the world. You are the only one who can lead to their downfall. You are the one to make it happen. Your power is the key." By now the world around me was just a barren wasteland as far as the eye could see. The skies were covered in black clouds, lightning spurting out, attacking the ground from all directions. The wind picked up and howled around us. "Our time is coming to a close, Benjamin. But, before I go there is something you must see." I was sucked into a vision, much like the memory, but I knew it was of the future. I was in a dark room, with three hooded men. One of them spoke, whose voice I recognized. "We must kill Benjamin." Derrick said angrily. "He has become too much of a danger to us, we can't risk the outcome of the overthrow being changed by him. He believes I love him, so I shall do it." "That's perfect!" One of the men said. "Your boyfriend can help; he's surely to want revenge on that one for almost killing you in the car with that tremendously charged attack." They all agreed and fell silent. I was pulled from the vision and the woman's figure was again in front of me. "You know what you must do Ben. You must kill Derrick and escape. Be careful, for there are many dangers waiting for you in the shadows." And she faded away. I was jarred from my sleep by a siren, sounding much like a fire alarm. I could hear people running outside the door and I jumped out of bed. Derrick wasn't in the room. "Three weeks..." I whispered to myself while looking at the date on my watch. I remembered the vision from the dream; the vision that Derrick was going to kill me. I threw my clothes on and cracked the door to look out. No one was in the hall anymore and I started walking the direction the soldiers went, being careful not to be seen. I heard whispers over the alarm from a dark room I passed. I stopped to listen through the door which was barely opened. "We must kill Benjamin." I heard Derrick say for the second time. I didn't need to hear anymore of this conversation, I had already heard it once. I burst into the room, slamming the three men with a mental push against a wall hard enough to knock them unconscious. Derrick looked terrified, then confused. He moved to start speaking, and reached for something behind his back. "Ben! I..." He started to speak. `Stop' I thought, and he immediately was frozen. He was still conscious and able to know what was going on around him, but not able to do anything. "I know of your plans to kill me. I saw it in one of my dreams." I said, angrily. "It's too bad you didn't do it sooner." Using my mind, I pulled him into the air constricting the force around his neck. The alarms in the background stopped and I knew others would be around to talk to him soon. I would have choked the life out of him instantly, had it not been for the sad, extremely hurt face he had. Even though he did not care for me I still cared for him. I left him there, frozen in the air, and walked off. I did not know how long he would remain frozen, unable to move, or speak. Curiously, the people who saw me in the hallways did not stop me. `They did not yet know of the plans to kill me.' I reasoned quickly. Before long I was outside of the complex, at which the entrance was in an alley, in the center of downtown Williamsburg. I had no where to go, no reason to go. I just walked. I walked for hours, around downtown. Not taking notice to the looks I was getting, from being unphased by the rain. I could hardy notice that my clothes were soaked, my body was soaked. While walking it began to dawn on me what had happened to me over the past 3 weeks; or as I had seen it, what had happened over the past 3 days. I had met Derrick. My parents told me I have powers that I had only heard of in Hollywood. My parents died I was attacked and almost killed, but saved by Derrick, who I in turn saved on the way to his place. I woke up inside a strange complex, only to fall back to sleep and have a vision of the future. The vision came true and Derrick wanted to kill me. I had almost killed the only guy I had ever fallen in love with, who did not truly love me. Now, I had nothing. I owned nothing, had nothing left to live for. I was lost in a city that I previously dared not explore alone. At some point during my thinking I had wondered into a park, and found myself sitting on a bench deep in thought. "Psst! Hey!" I heard from behind me, in the bushes. I turned cautiously towards the voice whose owner I could not see. "Who are you?" The voice asked. Almost ready to welcome death, I cared not who knew my name. "I'm Ben." "Oh my god!" The voice gasped. "Beautiful, awesome, sexy!" "What?" I asked confused, still talking to a bush. "Hurry! Come here!" I was snatched into the bushes and the owner of the voice tried to drag me into a trap door into the ground. "Get off of me!" I shouted, pushing him away. He shoved me into the hole where the trap door led and shut it behind himself, locking it. He had this evil look in his eyes that says `This is going to be tasty.' The person was a boy, about 17 or 18 I figured. He had short, spiked blonde hair, and sparkling blue eyes. He was probably about 3 inches taller than me. The room he pulled me into was about the size of a ten by ten by ten cube, much like an old bomb shelter. There were old boards holding up the corners of the walls, cobwebs scattered across the roof and floor, and a single, very dim light lit the room. He jumped on top of me and pulled me down to the ground. He began biting and kissing, attacking my face. I tried to resist and force him off of me, but when I did he hit me hard in the face with this elbow. "I'm going to have fun with you cutie!" He said, grinning. I never had much muscle at all, however, this boy had very good definition. I noticed his abs as he ripped his shirt off, while still holding me on the ground with his body weight. "Let me go!" I stammered, on the brink of tears. "I'm going to fuck you good boy!" He said, snatching my pants off. He rolled me onto my stomach and locked my arms and legs into restraints. My internal alarms began buzzing in my ears as I realized just how serious this situation had become. As I protested and fought trying to free myself from the binds, he began to hit me with all his might across the back. He landed a good blow to my right kidney and I fell on my face, in tears. He laughed manically and spit on my ass. "Oh this is going to be good!" He said. I felt him place his dick to my ass when it happened. It's like my body turned on autopilot, because I could not hold it back anymore. The alarms screeched and wailed in my ears and I imideately jerked up from the chains binding me, which snapped like limp noodles. Without warning, I put my hand to the boy's heart and stopped it. I felt no pain for this, no remorse, it was all blocked. His eyes went wide, terror and sadness in his eyes. I could even go as far as to say regret. His limp body fell to the floor, and I came to my senses. "Oh god!" I screamed. "What have I done!?" Though this boy had just tried to rape me, something told me something wasn't right. I found his wallet in his pants and pulled it out. I began crying the second I saw the date on his learner's permit. He turned 16 the next day. I looked around the room with tear filled eyes and noticed a tube on the floor. It was a prescription tube from a drug store. The label was scratched out and just had the number 4 written on it. I opened the tube and dumped its contents into my hand. There were 2 round pills inside the tube. They both had the same mark on them, X. My attacker had been under the influence of Extacy. A boy, a day before 16, on Extacy... I had killed him. The tears began to flow more than ever. I realized the boy was not a magical, just a regular 15 year old kid. "Ahhhhhh!" I screamed in agony. All the pain that I felt for the boy, all the remorse, all the sadness, all the guilt exploded from me at once. The light was smashed and I was sure I could hear trees above me topple over from the force of the energy I expelled. My eyes turned black, my hair, everything around me became darkness. My heart became stone; I will never again have pain, regret, or fear for anything else. This one event will drive me. The shadows surrounded me; I would now be forever followed by the guilt, the pain, the terror of the innocent boy whose life I had taken. I walked up the concrete stairs, vaporizing the steel door that blocked the entrance. I was no longer Benjamin Xela; I was now B, Death Dealer of Williamsburg. I walked out into the night, looking for someone to be the first victim of my rage. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's chapter 4. I'm sorry this was such a sad and brutally realistic chapter. It's just where my mind sent me, and it was the best way to push the story towards the direction it needed to go.
