Undecided I hadn't been in the city for long, being from a small town has its advantages and disadvantages. I was naive and young. I was only 19. I had just graduated high school just a few months prior, and being from a small town in upstate New York, I was scared to death, yet excited beyond anything I could compare. I had always had an interest in writing so I submitted an article I had wrote for my high school paper to the Manhattan School of Art, and was accepted with a full scholarship. My parents weren't rich, but could afford to rent me an apartment in Manhattan, with the stipulation that with the first semester that I find a roommate to help offset the cost. I didn't feel that that would be a problem, so after school started, I put a roommate add on the student center bulletin board. Almost immediately I had offers, but I was not going to accept the first person that came to me. I held interviews. The first interview was with Alexander. Alexander was a quiet person, he seemed to be a guy who liked to just keep to himself, and I was a little scared of that. I had seen in the local news of the quiet roommates just flipping and killing all the people in the house, so I marked him as a possible candidate. The next interview was with a fellow journalist named Marcy. Marcy was the type of person who just seemed to get along with everyone. During her interview she explained that she was from upstate too, and from a town not too far from where I lived. I had a feeling that I would be choosing her, since we had a lot in common, plus I liked her. I had always liked girls with red hair, and with her light complexion, the red hair just looked perfect. After interviewing about a half a dozen people, I took down the advertisement, and went through all the prospective roommates. It took me a little over 6 hours to narrow it down to Alexander and Marcy. I had to ask myself, did I want someone who probably wouldn't help me with my assignments, or would I want someone I would have troubles focusing with. I decided that it would be better to have someone there that could help; I would just have to curb my fantasies for the time being. Marcy showed up at my apartment a little after one in the afternoon. She was carrying a fairly large box, so when I opened the door, I asked if I could take it and she more than gratefully shoved the box at me and took off back down the stairs. Not asking any questions, I took the box to her room. No sooner had I set down the box, there was another knock at the door. I hurriedly went to the door, fully expecting it to be her, but was greeted by three burly men. I opened the door and that asked where her room was, I told them, and they passed me carrying a rather large bed set. Wondering how they were going to fit the bed into the room, since it was somewhat a small room. It took the rest of the day for Marcy to get fully moved in. I learned that the men that carried the bed set in were her brothers, and as with most New Yorkers, I was told that if I hurt their baby sister, that I would have to face them. I reassured them that I wouldn't. After everyone had left, I went into the kitchen and set to work fixing dinner for me and Marcy. I was setting the table for us when I heard another knock at the door, fully expecting Marcy to answer it, I went back to work preparing the meal, but after the third knock, and no Marcy, I cleaned off my hands and hollered "Just a minute." Opening the door, there was a man standing there. He stood about 6 feet tall, and had a rather athletic build. "Is Marcy Detwhiler in?" he asked. "Yeah, let me get her," and I invited him in. Knocking on her door, she opened it and I told her there was some guy at the door. She stood up and went towards the entry way. Seeing who it was, she squealed "KEV!" and went running to him and jumped into his arms. Seeing that it was a personal matter, I retreated to the kitchen and continued what I was doing. Moments later her and "Kev" came into the kitchen, where Marcy introduced me, "Kev, this is Anthony, my roommate. Anthony, this is my cousin Kevin." Cleaning off my hands I extended a hand to shake his, but I noticed something odd. His hand was cold as ice, and it was summer time. But I just shook it off and said, "Nice to meet you. Will you be two staying for supper?" I asked. She looked at him, and he shrugged. "If there's enough, sure." I looked at them, and said, "One thing my mom always said was `always expect the unexpected.' Of course there is enough. Can you add another place setting to the table Marcy?" Without missing a beat, she made a dash to the kitchen and returned with another setting for Kevin. I excused myself and returned to finish the meal. When the food was ready, I called out to both Marcy and Kevin. They came from the living room and we all sat down to a pasta dinner. All throughout the meal Kevin and Marcy continued their catching up. I learned that Marcy hadn't seen Kevin since they were little kids. Kevin lived in queens with some friends, and once he had heard that Marcy had moved to Manhattan, had to come and see his favorite cousin. All through out the meal, something kept nagging at me, although I couldn't put a finger on it. After the meal, I cleaned off the table, while Marcy and Kevin continued their reunion. After all was clean and put away, I went to my room and worked on my first assignment for school. I wasn't a hard assignment, so I had it done in no time. After finishing, I went out to the living room, where I found no one home. I turned on the television, and watched a movie. When the movie was over, I decided to take a shower and go to bed. One thing that was puzzling me was, where was Marcy? Not wanting to appear over bearing, I just put it to the back of my mind and went to take my shower. Half way through my shower, I heard the door open, not paying no mind, I finished my shower. I was just coming out of the bathroom when I heard giggling. Not wanting to appear nosey, I went to my room and went to bed. I had a restless night that night, I kept dreaming that there was someone in my room watching me, but every time I would open my eyes to look around, I would see nothing but an empty room. This happened several times that night. I woke up when my alarm went off. I slowly opened my groggy eyes and with a lot of effort, climbed out of bed and put on some sweat pants, since I like to sleep in the buff. I went to the kitchen and fixed me a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee. I took my breakfast into the living room, to watch the morning news, when I noticed, a body on the couch. From what could be seen, the upper torso of this body was well defined. Chiseled chest and six pack abs, was the first thing I noticed. Shaking my head, I sat down in my recliner and turned on the TV. Once the volume came on, a muffled "turn it down" came from my couch, I didn't recognize the voice, so I said, "sorry," and turned down the volume and proceeded to eat my breakfast. Halfway through my breakfast, Marcy came into the living room and sat in the recliner next to mine. I looked over at her, then over to the couch. She saw what I was trying to do and said, "Oh, that's Kev, he decided to crash here, since it was getting late and he didn't want to chance the subway that late." I didn't have a problem with that, but it would have been nice to been told that a stranger was going to be sleeping on my couch. I finished my breakfast and got ready for my journey to the school. All throughout the day, I couldn't get the image of Kevin's sleeping body out of my head, his amazing abs, and that chiseled chest. I was drawn back to reality when one of my instructors called my name, asking something about the plot of the story we were discussing. I had to find out why Kevin was filling my waking thoughts. It was unnatural for me. I liked girls, I liked Marcy. I couldn't like Kevin. I'm not gay. I'm not like that. Having gotten through the day, I made my way home. It was about six in the evening, the sun was starting to head towards the horizon, but I still had several hours of daylight left, but I had a feeling that I was being followed, and every time I would turn around, there would be nothing. Once I thought I saw a blur out of the corner of my eye, but I just chalked it to being my imagination. I arrived home to Kevin sitting on my couch watching TV, "Hey, where's Marcy?" I asked. "She's at class and won't be home till late, but she said I could hang out here till she got home." He replied, without turning his gaze from the TV. I was a little uneasy with him being in my home without anyone there, but I couldn't say anything, since he was Marcy's cousin, and she was renting a room from me. I would just have to pull her aside later and say something then. I went to my room, leaving the door open so I could hear everything, and started on my homework for the day. It took me about an hour to do my work, and I didn't hear any movement from the living room, but half way through my work, it felt like I had someone looking over my shoulder, but every time I would look around, I would be the only one in the room. When I had finished, I went into the kitchen to fix me something to eat. Kevin must have heard me, because he joined me in the kitchen and tried to start up a conversation. I learned that he had grown up in New York City, but would go up to Marcy's family's farm every summer. He enjoyed his time up there, but about a couple of years ago, something happened and he was unable to go up there any more. The journalist in me wanted to know more, but the cautious farm boy didn't want to hear any more. I looked at Kevin and asked, "Would you care for something to eat?" Without missing a beat, he was standing next to me, so close that I could feel the body heat emanating from him. I also felt something else, and that something else was pressing against my hip. I side-stepped to put some space between us, but he was right up against me again. I looked up into his eyes, and was lost. His eyes were like a deep blue well. It was the first time I had seen his eyes up close, and I felt like I wanted to get lost in them. Shaking my head, to clear the fog that had entered, I tried to put some space between me and Kevin, but it seemed that everywhere I turned, there he was, and the more I tried, the more he looked like he was trying to hunt something, which was starting to frighten me. We had been doing the cat and mouse routine for about 10 minutes, when I heard the door open, and noticed that Kevin wasn't in the kitchen any more. Shaking my head to clear the foggy feeling I was having, I went to the entry way and saw that it was Marcy. I pulled her into my room and proceeded to explain to her what had just transpired. After explaining everything, she looked at me, with a look of worry, and said, "There is no way he could have done a thing like that, we had a grand time last night, and he showed no signs of this behavior last night." "I know what just happened in the kitchen, and I am not liking it one bit." I said. Then I asked the question that I had been pondering from the first time I met the man, "Is he gay?" She looked at me with disgust, and with a very angry tone, stated "No, he's not gay, he has a girlfriend, which I'll have you know, we hung out with, last night." And with that, she stood up and left. I heard her telling Kevin what we had just been talking about, which made me feel like a heel. I figured I would never see him again, but instead, there was a knock at my door. "Come in," I answered. The door opened and there was Kevin, standing in the door way. "I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable back there, I didn't mean to. Something smelled good, and I wanted to see what you were making," he said. Everything in my being was telling me that he was lying, but after seeing Marcy's reaction, I didn't feel like arguing with her. "It's ok, you just crowded me a bit, that's all." I said, trying to make sense of what I was feeling, since I was getting a hard on, with him standing in the door way, which wasn't making sense to me. "Hey, Marcy and I are going out, why don't you come with us?" He asked. Not wanting to upset Marcy any more, I conceded and said, "Ok, let me get around, where are you guys going?" I asked, trying to figure out what I should wear. "We were gonna go to the club we went to last night." I looked at him with a lost look on my face, and that was all it took, he walked into my room, and headed straight for my closet. After shuffling through my clothes for what seemed like forever, he looked at me and proclaimed, "We are taking you shopping. You have nothing to wear. How much can you spend?" I was totally lost with his statement that I just stared at him blankly, since all I was seeing was his bare chest and abs. I was starting to get that foggy feeling again. I didn't know what was happening to me, but I was feeling really good, and I didn't want it to stop. It was a feeling of euphoria that I had never felt before. It was a feeling I was liking and didn't want to stop.
