My nose is stuffed up and I feel weak. I nudge Alex. "Oh shit babe, you are burning up." * * * * * Young Again: The College Years - Chapter 45 by Sam "I don't feel good Alex." "Wait here babe." Alex got up and went out. A minute later he and Marty come into the room. Marty checks me out. "Wow Kiddo, I think you are sick. You'll need to stay in bed. Also I can see what you see in Alex." Alex looked down and noticed he was naked. "Oh crap, I was in such a hurry to get Sam help I forgot I was nude. I'm sorry Mr. Richards." "Don't worry about it Alex. You're not the first Peters boy I've seen naked. You stay in bed kiddo and I'll take care of everything." Marty left and came back with a bottle of Nyquil. He gave me some and told me to just sleep. Dennis woke up and saw me. He looked worried. I told him I was sick and Marty told me to stay in bed. "I'll stay home and take care of you." "No you won't. Both you and Alex will go to school. Dad can take care of me." "Fine baby, but when I get home I'm taking care of you." Dennis got dressed for school and went to breakfast. I fell asleep sometime after that. "He still has a fever. Shouldn't we take him to the doctor?" When I woke up Dennis was next to me on his side facing me. Alex was on the other side doing the same. "How do you feel Kiddo?" Marty was standing at the foot of the bed. "Like crap." "Ok, can you get dressed and we will take you to the doctor's office." "Ok" Dennis and Alex helped me get dressed in some sweats and Dennis carried me to the car. Alex drove and Marty directed from the passenger seat. We checked in to the doctor's office and Marty filled out the forms. When they took the forms and looked at them they had me put on a face mask. When they called my name, Alex picked me up and carried me in. He sat me down in the chair so the nurse could take my vitals then picked me up and carried me to the exam room and sat me on the table. After a few minutes another nurse came by and said to follow her so they could draw blood. Dennis picked me up and we all followed. Dennis sat me down in the blood draw chair and the technician asked if I had any problems with giving blood. I told him I did, I pass out. Hearing this Alex picks me up out of the chair and has Dennis sit down. Alex then sets me in Dennis' lap and Dennis wraps his arms around me, leaving my arm free and holds me tight. The guy puts on the tourniquet and inserts the needle. I start feeling bad right away. He pushes in the vials one at a time. It takes far too long but eventually he removes the needle and tourniquet. I felt like shit when I got here, now I feel like shit and am woozy. They also have me pull down the mask so they can shove a long cotton swab up my nose. After they have done that they have me put the mask back and tell me to return to the exam room. Alex picks me up off of Dennis and we all go back to the room. It takes forever but eventually the doctor comes in. He tells me I have the flu. He writes a prescription and tells me to stay in bed for a week. Alex picks me up and carries me. Marty pays the bill and we head to the car. Marty has Alex drop him off at the pharmacy and take me home then come back to pick him up. He tells Dennis that I'm contagious so to keep his distance when possible. He then points at Alex and says that goes for him too. When we get home, Dennis carries me inside and puts me in the bed. He and Alex take off my clothes and cover me in the sheet. Alex then heads out to pick up Marty. Dennis brings me some orange juice and gives me the TV remote then goes to his desk and sits to watch me. About an hour later and Marty returns with the medicine. He gives it to me then tells both Dennis and Alex to let me sleep and they should sleep in the other room. Neither one is happy about this, but they do it. I fall asleep. When I wake up I don't know what time it is but I have to pee. I get out of bed and go to the bathroom. When I'm done peeing I take my empty orange juice glass and head to the kitchen. When I get to the living room, Alex is on the couch watching TV. "Babe? Do you need something?" "Sorry Alex, I just needed more orange juice." "Go back to bed babe and I'll bring it to you." I turn around and go back to bed. Alex brings in a full glass of orange juice and sets it on the nightstand. "How are you feeling babe?" "A little better, but not well." "Ok, well you stay in bed. If you need anything just ask out the door and me or Dennis will get it for you." "What time is it?" "2:13am" "Why are you up so late? You have school tomorrow." "In case you need anything. Me and Dennis are taking turns staying up in case you need anything." "But what about school?" "We'll do that too. If we miss something we can always make it up. It is only January after all." "I don't want y'all to fall behind. Especially you, if you fail you won't graduate this year." "I'm staying with you no matter what, so whether I graduate or not I'll be here next year. But don't worry, I'll study harder later. I want you to get well." "Well you better graduate. That way you can get a job in... wow. I have no idea what you are majoring in. I'm sorry Alex. I really should have found out before now." "It's ok babe. It's finance. I'm going to be a financial advisor." "Ok, well I want you to be doing that." "Don't worry babe, I won't let you down. Now get some sleep so you can get better." "Goodnight Alex." "Goodnight babe." Alex left, closing the door. I watched some TV then felt sleepy so I turned it off and went to sleep. I was woken up in the morning by someone shaking my shoulders. I opened my eyes and Marty was there. Behind him was Alex and Dennis. "How are you feeling kiddo?" "Better, but not great." "Do you think you can keep anything down?" "Probably." "Ok wait here." Marty leaves the room. "Do you need anything baby?" "Not at the moment." "If you do babe, I'll be here right after I take Dennis to school and your dad will be here while we are both at school this afternoon." Marty returns with a bed tray and plate of toast. I chew on the toast. He then brings in a full glass of orange juice. While I'm eating he hands me two pills. One looks like Tylenol and I guess the other is my prescription. When I finish the toast Marty leaves with the plate. I take the pills and the boys head out. I fell asleep some time later. When I wake up later I have to pee. I get up and go to the bathroom. When I'm done I go out to fill up my orange juice. Marty is in the living room. "How are you feeling kiddo?" "I'm feeling a lot better. I just need more orange juice." "Go back to bed and I'll bring it to you." I go back to my room and get in bed. Marty brings in the orange juice. I ask if he can bring my laptop. He does so and closes the door as he leaves. I turn on the laptop and search for adoption information. Since I am bedridden and cannot get up to do stuff, by force, I might as well get some research done. There are several adoption agencies around here. But do I want to get one here, or near home. We do stay here most of the year but will only be doing it for two more years until Dennis finishes college, then we will live at home. I figure I'll look at both options. After all, I'm just looking now. Most of the websites have requirements pages. That is good. For the most part they all match. There is a training class at the agency you have to attend then pass a background check and be financially stable. All are doable. Hope the background check doesn't reveal I'm 50. I am running into one issue. This state allows adoption agencies to discriminate based on sexuality. So a lot of these websites clearly state they don't work with gay couples. This doesn't bother me. If you don't want to work with me, I don't want to give my money to you. I'll go to your competitor. So that is what I'm dealing with. So far I found 2 agencies here that don't say they don't work with gay couples and one back home. That doesn't mean they do, but their websites don't say they don't. I'll have to call and ask someone when I feel like moving forward. Dennis and Alex came in to check on me. "What ya doin' babe?" "Looking at adoption agencies' websites." "Have you found one you want to use, baby?" "I've found two up here and one at home that don't openly reject gay couples. But I haven't called to confirm yet." "When are you gonna call? I can drive you around to them if you want babe." "Not today, it is late and I need some rest still." "Oh, of course baby. Do you want us to bring you something?" "I'm a little hungry so whatever is being made for dinner." "You got it babe." They both left and came back a half hour later with a plate of food and a full glass of orange juice. They also handed me some pills. I took the pills then ate. When I was done they took away the plate and told me to get some rest. I watched TV for a while then went to sleep. To be continued...
