Chapter 8: Mark's 2nd Escape attempt!

Mark:

When I woke up later that morning, I quickly realized that I was alone in bed. As I sat up and looked around the small efficiency, I was not able to see my kidnapper anywhere in the room. Thinking that maybe he was in the bathroom, I quietly got up and peeked in the bathroom. It turned out to be as empty as the rest of the place.

"He actually left me alone!" I was shocked as I said this. I couldn't believe he left me without chaining me up or blindfolding me again.

I looked at the clock and saw that it was almost 11am. I wondered how long the kidnapper had been gone. "Maybe the guy had a job he had to go to." I thought to myself.

Totally alone, I decided to once again look for a way to escape. Yes I was afraid of being caught trying to do this, but if I didn't at least try, I was sure I would regret it later!

Not even thinking about the fact that I was in nothing but a well-used GoodNite, I once again went through the room looking for anything that I might have missed earlier. Unfortunately though, like earlier, I was not able to find a way out except through the front door, which of course was securely locked!

Frustrated, I started screaming and pounding on the front door like I was some wild beast. I am not sure how long I did this before I came to realize that this wasn't going to work. In the end though, I did come to the conclusion that my kidnapper wasn't lying when he said that no one would be able to hear me.

Crying, I slumped down in front of the door and allowed my fear to overtake me. I sat there with my back to the door, crying until I could no longer produce tears. Finally I got up and wiped my eyes. It was then that I noticed something on the table. I walked over and saw a note. Trembling, I picked up the note and read it. From the gist of the note, it was as if he knew exactly what I was going to do!

Boy,

Once you are done trying to find a way to escape, you will find some cereal in the cupboard over the sink and milk in the refrigerator. You can use the bowl and spoon in the dish drainer.

This was all the note said. There were no further instructions. With no other ideas; I succumbed to my hunger and as the note suggested, poured me a bowl of cereal. At least the cereal was one I liked, which is pretty much any sugar cereal.

It was while I was sitting at the table eating my `Sugar Smacks', that I noticed something about the door. Because the door swung in, the hinges were on the inside. It was then when I had an ingenious idea! If I could find a way to knock out the pins, I could possibly open up the door even with it being locked.

Forgetting about my half eaten cereal, I began to search the place for tools or things I could use to knock the pins out of the hinges.

When I found the toolbox under the sink, I couldn't believe my luck. Finally the guy made a mistake and I found myself giddy with the thought. I carried a chair over to the door so I could first start on the top hinge. I then went back and grabbed the hammer and a screwdriver to use to knock the pins out.

At first the top pin refused to budge and the hope I was filled with started to falter. Not wanting that door to beat me, I found an inner strength and tried again. This time, the pin gave.

As the top pin came out and was quickly followed with the other 2 pins, I became excited at the possibility of escape. I moved the chair and tried to use my fingers to pry the door open. It of course refused to budge.

"Come on! Come on! Please move!" I cried. Still the door refused to move.

Angry, I picked up the hammer and started to pound the metal door with it. Like I said, the door was pretty solid and I didn't even put a dent into it!

"God! Please help me!" I again cried out.

As I dropped the hammer, I heard it clunk to the floor. Suddenly I had an idea which sprung fourth a new spring of hope. I picked the hammer back up and used it to pry the door off its hinges. At first, like before, it didn't want to budge. Instead of giving up, I tried again and this time the door moved.

Over the next several minutes, I used the hammer to pry the door up and down the whole side. When the door gave, I was sure that I was going to be able to escape... That is until I looked into the short hallway, and saw the other door. This door was metal like the other one. The only difference was, this one hinges were on the other side!

All hope inside of me was crushed! I fell to the floor and bawled my eyes out. There was no way through that door without a key, which I didn't have. Maybe if I was experienced at lock picking but this of course was not the case.

For the next several minutes I sat there and cried. It was during this that I realized that if the guy was to come back and find the door off, he would probably kill me.

I wiped the tears from my eyes and got up. You know, I thought getting the door off was hard. It was nearly impossible getting it back on. In the end though, I figured a way to use the hammer to lift the door enough to get it back on its hinges. Once that was done, I put the pins back in. Finally I put the tools back into the toolbox and put it back where it was under the sink. I then put the chair back in its place at the table.

For the next couple hours I tried to come up with a plan. It was during this time that I considered getting the keys off the kidnapper when he was asleep. I started to mentally kick myself for not trying it earlier when the guy had been there sleeping.

It wasn't until almost 4pm that I heard the door open. The guy came into the room and looked around as if to expect that I had something up my sleeve. Once he was sure that everything seemed to be normal, he walked over to the table where I was sitting at.

"Boy, you stink!" The guy then grabbed my arm and dragged me into the bathroom.

I was so caught up in my misery that I had completely forgotten all about my bladder and bowels. I didn't even realize that the GoodNite I was wearing was already leaking all over the chair. Not to mention that I had soiled it at one point.

"Get in the shower!" He demanded.

I did as I was told. Right at that moment I was scared he might strike me if I didn't do as I was told. Once I was in the shower, he ripped the sides of the GoodNite I was wearing.

"Shower!" Was all he said, as he deposited the soggy soiled diaper into the trash.

He then sat on the toilet and smirked as he watched me clean my bodily waste from diaper area. At that moment, I found I really hated that guy. Somehow, one way or the other, I was going to escape. Until then, my job was to stay alive!
