Chapter 39

The Pool Party

The Saturday following the 4th of July, Jordy, Seth, Jerry, and Lee loaded up in the SUV with Mrs. Kelly at the wheel and they were off to the Taylors' home on the lake. Mr. Kelly elected to remain behind because the campgrounds were rather busy that particular Saturday, and besides: he and his wife had taken a tour of the Taylors' home earlier in the week.

"I won't know hardly anyone," Lee said, sounding nervous.

Jordy rolled his eyes, "Let's see: you know us three, Rusty, Nate, Jesse, and Warren. How is that hardly knowing anyone?"

"I meant the new kids..."

"You mean the girls," Seth chuckled.

"Well, that too," Lee confessed, "especially that one girl, Patsy."

"Oh, the one you've got the hots for," Seth teased.

"I do not, I just think she's cute, and stuff..." Lee said, tapering off toward the end.

Mrs. Kelly was listening to the boys' conversation with amusement, but truthfully she was glad to hear that there would be girls at this party. Alone, who knew what the boys might get into? However, girls had a way of tempering the situation, and besides, she reasoned, it was good for the boys to mix with girls now and then.

The trip was a short one, and as the boys piled out, Nate, Rusty, and Mrs. Taylor came out to greet them. The two women talked quietly for a while as the boys headed inside, and soon Mrs. Taylor returned and suggested the boys go ahead and get things set up poolside.

Though the pool was an above ground model, it was rather large, with a wrap around deck that could easily accommodate a dozen or more people. There were four lounge chairs, as well as a table with an umbrella and four chairs, and a long built in bench along one side. It was on this bench that the boys placed an ice chest and trays of snack food, most pre-wrapped to keep it fresh and away from the flies.

"This is neat," Lee said bending to dip a hand in the cool blue water. Then straightening back up again he added, "when are the...umm...others getting here?"

"Between 3 and 4. Patsy's mom is bringing the girls. Besides Patsy, there's Sarah, Betsy, and Kim."

"I know all of them except Patsy," Seth noted, "did she just move here?"

"Yeah, last year just before school ended. You probably didn't have any classes with her. Her dad works at the bank where my folks do business."

"Ah, yeah...I remember some talk about that," Seth said, "Hey, do we have to wait for them, or can we swim now?"

"Go for it," Nate said, just as Jesse and Warren came bursting out the patio door and heading their way.

"Hey guys," Jesse said excitedly, "okay if we swim now?"

"Yeah, I was just about to dive in," Seth answered, hoping Nate didn't mind him answering for the group.

"Yaaay!" the two said as they canon-balled into the pool, splashing anyone standing close-by.

"You rats," Nate chuckled, "no canon-balling."

"Sorry, we won't do it again," Jesse giggled.

Soon, everyone was in the cool water and splashing about as they waited for the other guests to arrive.

"Who else is coming, besides the girls?" Jordy wondered.

"My friend Eric, and Carl of course. I'm surprised he didn't come with you guys."

"He was busy with his dad, his mom is bringing him later," Jerry explained, "and I'm going home with him to spend the night later."

"Yeah, we tried to get Tony to come too, but he was busy with some tribal thing in Muskogee," Seth said.

"So, let's see: that's..." Rusty said as he counted the number of kids who'd be present for the pool party, "14, if everyone shows. That's a lot of bodies in one place," he added with a chuckle.

"Yeah, but I figure not everyone will be in the water at the same time," Nate reasoned.

"Yeah, especially the girls," Rusty joked, "they probably don't want to get their hair wet."

"I wonder what they'll wear?" Jerry mused, asking the same question Lee had been pondering.

"Bikinis, most likely," Nate shrugged, "most girls wear the two piece, but some of the one piece are just as revealing."

"Hey, you sound interested," Rusty said cuffing Nate gently.

"I can appreciate a cute girl, even if I don't want to bone her," Nate laughed.

"I'd like to bone one," Jerry said, then blushed bright red.

"You surprise me more every day," Jordy said, "but if that's what you want, then who am I to knock it?"

Time passed quickly and soon the girls arrived and Nate climbed out to greet them. Patsy was 13, but the other two girls were a year older and Nate had known them since grade school. Patsy had taken up with the older girls upon her arrival at the new school, and their friendship had blossomed over the course of the remaining school year and the summer.

"Hi everyone," Nate said cordially before making the introductions.

Lee couldn't keep his eyes off the girls as he was introduced, but at the moment all three were still dressed in shorts and pullovers. Patsy especially caught his eye and she seemed to be just as interested in him as he was in her.

"Did you girls bring your swimsuits?" Nate asked, noting that each girl carried a beach bag.

"We're wearing them under our clothes," Betsy offered, "is there some place we can change?"

"Sure, my bathroom is right inside there. Come on, I'll show you."

Soon, Nate returned, and a few minutes later the girls reappeared, and as predicted, all three wore two piece bathing suits. They weren't really what you'd call bikinis, but even so they left little to the imagination and showed a lot of flesh, especially the girls' flat tummies, hairless legs, and curvy thighs.

"I'm in love," Jerry whispered under his breath.

Jordy chuckled, "They are cute...and kind of sexy," he said in a voice only the other boys could hear.

Soon the girls joined the boys in the water, and all that could be seen were their heads and arms floating above the surface.

"There are sodas, sports drinks, and water in the coolers, and a bunch of different snacks, and later we'll have pizza."

"I'd like some water," Patsy said starting to climb out.

"I'll get it," Lee quickly volunteered, climbing out before she could protest.

"Thank you...Lee," Patsy said giving Lee a sweet smile, then her smile faded and she reached over to lay her hand on his arm, "I was really sorry to hear about your folks, that must've been awful."

"It was pretty bad, but fortunately I got a new family now, and a new brother, so it's a little easier to deal with. Thanks for caring though."

"So...you lived in Chicago before...?" she asked, and soon they were engaged in quiet conversation as they got to know one another better.

"Looks like Lee's putting the moves on Patsy," Seth chuckled, "I guess he's gonna turn out to be a ladies' man after all."

"I'm kind of glad to see him interact with someone. I was really worried about him for a while. I mean, yeah, he was okay around us most of the time, but you didn't see him as much as I did. When we were alone at home he seemed sort of lost and sad a lot of the time," Jordy said frowning.

"Well, maybe what he needs is someone like Patsy to boost his spirits. I have to admit: she seems really nice, and....she's fun to look at," Seth added grinning.

"Am I gonna have to worry about you turning straight on me too?" Jordy teased.

"I never said I was gay," Seth reminded him, but seeing Jordy's smile fade, he quickly added, "but right now I'm in love with a boy, and that boy is all I need."

"Oh, really...do I know him?" Jordy teased.

"You're impossible," Seth laughed as he attempted to dunk Jordy, who fortunately was expecting just such a reaction and quickly swam away.

"Hey, Warren...wanna show the girls the tree house," Jesse said where he floated beside the three older girls. Patsy was still busy with Lee, and seemed in no hurry to get with her gal pals.

"Okay," Warren agreed as he quickly climbed the ladder.

When the four had gone, Nate climbed out and checked his cell phone and noted there was a message from a number he didn't recognize.

The message was cryptic, simply: Call me dude...please.

Even though he didn't know who he was calling, he hit the phone icon and was rewarded as the receiver picked up immediately.

"Hey, thanks for calling. This is BJ, in case you don't know who it is," the boy said laughing nervously.

"Oh, hey. How's it going, man?"

"Good, good, but...I heard you were having a pool party and that you'd invited...um, Kim."

"Yeah, oh...Kim is the girl you like. She lives near you, right?" Nate said suddenly understanding.

"Yeah, hey...I know we don't know each other all that well...but...I was wondering. If I got my bro to bring me out there...could I hang out a while, just long enough to talk to Kim? I won't eat anything and I don't even have to swim..."

"BJ, don't be silly. Come on out man. And bring your swim trunks. Kim is gonna wanna see that bod, man. And don't worry about anything, there's plenty of food and drinks, and I think you pretty much know everyone here. Come on out and have some fun."

"Really? Thanks, oh man, I owe you big time."

"Shall I tell Kim you're coming or let it be a surprise?"

"Oh, uh...I guess let it be a surprise. Do you think she'll want to see me?"

"Dude, I don't know. Do the two of you ever talk? Are you on a friend basis? I mean, I don't know anything about you two really."

"Oh, we talk a lot. She lives really close and her sister knows my brother, and well...our folks get along real well..."

"Relax dude, she doesn't have to know you're here just to see her. I think it might be best if I tell my guests in advance that I've invited you. I'll say you called just to talk and I asked you to come on out, or something like that."

"Well, if you're sure..."

"I'll handle it. Just get your butt out here as soon as possible. I see two more of my guests have just arrived, so you can make a grand entrance when you come," Nate chuckled.

"Okay, I'm so nervous, but I'll be there in like a half hour."

When Billy finally hung up, Nate found Rusty and filled him in on what was happening and they discussed how best to break the news to the others. By then Carl and Eric had arrived and the group had returned from checking out the treehouse.

Jerry had swarmed Carl immediately, feeling a little guilty for lusting after the girls, and a lot horny from it as well. He might not be able to get with one of the girls, but he was sure he and Carl could find some alone time at some point, even if it was in the treehouse or the bathroom.

Jordy and Seth didn't know Eric that well, but they'd seen him around a few times and he seemed like an okay guy, though a little quiet for their taste. He was red-haired with green eyes, but didn't seem to be plagued by freckles like most gingers, that is: unless the freckles were beneath his clothing. He was short for a kid his age, but he had a muscular build from hours of running and playing tennis. He'd never gone out for rough sports like baseball or football, but he liked to stay active and was on the school track team. In addition, he was an excellent swimmer and spent a great deal of time in the water, giving him a sleek swimmer's build.

"Eric is kinda hot," Jordy whispered to Seth, "I've only seem him from a distance before, but up close he's a real fox."

"Down boy, am I going to have to throw a bucket of cold water on you?" Seth chuckled, "I can just imagine what you'll think when he changes into his trunks."

"Oh, I hope he's wearing a Speedo," Jordy moaned, "with that body of his, he'd look amazing in one."

Although Eric did own several Speedos, that day he chose to wear a pair of more traditional trunks beneath his clothes. Unlike the girls who'd retreated to the privacy of the bath to strip off their outer clothes, Eric just skinned off his shirt and shorts right there on the deck and dove into the water.

Jordy stared unashamedly, but when the new boy swam up to him a few minutes later he worried that his stares might have been too bold.

"I'm Eric," he said flashing Jordy a brilliant smile, "I've seen you around. Your folks own the campgrounds, right?"

"Yeah, I'm Jordy, that's Seth," Jordy said, motioning toward his BF who was floating by his side.

"You live there too, right?"

"Yep, me and my dad, and Jerry and Mark. We're sort of a family," Seth said boldly, hoping to get a rise out of the boy.

"That's so cool," Eric said, "it's just me and my mom and older sister. My dad died a few years back when I was just a kid."

"Oh, sorry to hear that," Seth said, immediately feeling empathy for the boy, "I lost my mom, so did Jerry, but our dad's are great."

"My mom's great too. My grans live close by, and they help us a lot."

"So...you and Nate are good friends?" Jordy asked, and for the next few minutes the three boys got to know each other better.

"Nate, honey, can you come here a minute?" Mrs. Taylor called from the back door.

"Oh sure mom, be right there," Nate said hurrying down the ladder and across the paved path to the patio. Then suddenly he remembered he hadn't told his mom about Billy and was about to do so when she began.

"There's a boy here named Billy. I don't remember him being part of your group. What's up with that?"

"Sorry mom, it was a last minute thing. He's cool. What's one more?" Nate said shrugging.

"Well, if you invited him, then okay, but he looks a little rough," she said flipping her head around to make sure Billy couldn't overhear her.

Nate laughed, "He is, but he's a nice kid. He won't corrupt our other guests. It's just that he's sort of got a thing for Kim, and as a favor I invited him so he could get to know her better with others around to take the pressure off."

"That's nice, I think," Mrs. Taylor chuckled, "Well, I'll send him out. What time do you want me to order the pizza?"

"How's five? That will give them time to get it here before we all starve to death," Nate joked.

"Five it is, I'll order one more since you have another guest, this one looks hungry," she chuckled.

It was at this point that Nate realized that not only had he not told his mother that Billy was coming, he hadn't told his other guests either. Oh well, he shrugged, maybe this was best after all."

"Hey, BJ. Good to see ya," Nate said when the boy finally showed up, "did ya bring your trunks?"

"I'm wearin' em under my clothes."

"Well, heads up, I forgot to tell anyone you were coming, so this is gonna be a big surprise for everyone," Nate chuckled.

Everyone was now staring at the two and Kim gave her girlfriends a nervous smile.

"It's Kim's boyfriend," Sarah teased, "what a loser."

"He's not that bad," Patsy said in his defense.

"He's okay," Kim conceded, "just kind of shy."

"Girl, that's cause he's hot for you," Betsy chuckled, "better watch out," she added, and the other girls laughed.

"Guys, gals," Nate said once he and Billy were on the deck, "in case any of you don't know him, this is Billy, or you may know him as BJ. I'll let you all introduce yourselves, cause I ain't the frigging MC," he chuckled, "anyway, BJ, drinks and snacks over there, feel free to mingle and graze."

"Hey Billy," Jordy said once the boy had slipped off his outer clothes and was in the water.

"Hey," Billy said grinning. He was wondering if Jordy and the others were thinking about the day they'd messed around in the bathroom at the park, but though that had been fun, what he really wanted now was to hang out with Kim.

"Hi Billy," Sarah said in an almost mocking voice, earning her a stink eye from several of the boys.

"Girls!" Seth fumed, "always so catty when it comes to anyone they think is beneath them. I don't like that Sarah girl very much."

"Yeah, she does seem a bit bitchy," Jordy agreed.

"She's probably just jealous that none of us are interested in her," Jerry offered, "but I wouldn't mind seeing her naked," he chuckled.

"Me either," Carl agreed, "maybe we could tag team her, three-way...uh huh," he laughed.

"Wow, it must be catching," Jordy said shaking his head, "girlitis."

"It's nature baby, it's nature," Jerry laughed.

"So...Billy, you want us to help you get to know Kim better?" Jordy said after a few minutes

"Huh, oh...well...how would you do that?" he asked, trying not to sound too desperate.

"Well, maybe we could play some games. There's a badminton net set up, and maybe Lee and Patsy could challenge you and Kim to a game."

"Oh, well...do you think she'd go for it?" he said looking around.

"I'll go talk to Lee," Jordy said swimming off.

Returning few minutes later, Jordy was all smiles, "Houston, it's a go," he giggled.

"Huh?" Billy said looking confused.

"The eagle has landed," Jordy said, then seeing Billy was still confused, he added, "she went for it. I think she's as anxious to get to know you as you are to get to know her. Now, go on, Tiger, get that girl and eat her up," Jordy chuckled.

The day passed pleasantly, and no one felt left out. Even Sarah seemed to get over her bitchiness and was civil to Billy, and she seemed to take a real interest in Eric, who however was lukewarm to her advances. He liked girls just fine, but Sarah was not the kind of girl he found attractive. There was more to a girl than looks and he knew it. What he wanted was a kindred soul, someone with interests that corresponded to his own, and most of all, someone who he could truly connect with. Unfortunately, he'd yet to find her, or...dare he think it, him?

Around six, the pizza arrived and the hungry group descended upon the eight large pizzas like piranha on fresh meat. Even the girls had a healthy appetite, though the boys could out eat them two pieces to one every time.

Billy and Kim had moved to a spot beneath a shade tree and were chatting quietly as they ate their pizza and sipped their drinks. A short distance away, Lee and Patsy shared a bit of shade, and were similarly engaged in conversation, though there's was a bit more personal.

"Do you think you'd ever want to...you know? go out with me....like I mean...to eat, or to the movies or something?" Lee said, feeling all flustered now.

"You mean a date?" Patsy said grinning.

"Well, I mean...it doesn't have to be...it could just be two friends..."

"I like the date thing better," Patsy said grinning, "If the offer is still good, I'd love to go out with you sometime. My mom would even drive us."

"Really? I think my folks would drive us sometimes too...I mean, if we went out more than once..."

"You're really sweet, Lee," the girl said smiling, "I'm sorry about your folks and all, but I'm really glad I met you. I hope...I mean, I think we can become really good friends."

"Just friends?" Lee asked, the disappointment obvious in his voice.

"Well, that's a good place to start, don't you think, but I want more, if you do."

"Yeah, I do, but I know we just met and we need to take it slow, and I'm cool with that. We have lots of time, and when school starts we'll see each other every day."

"Yes," she said smiling, then taking a bite of her pizza, she stared at Lee with loving eyes.

Lee and Patsy's interaction had not gone unnoticed, and a short distance away Jordy, Seth, Jerry, and Carl were discussing what they were seeing.

"The look of love, is in her eyes, the look that time can't disguise ," Seth sang. (click for a treat)

Jordy laughed, "Been listening to your dad's old records again?"

"Hey, they're cassettes, not records," Seth said grinning, "and yes, some of that music is cool, but to get back to our young lovers over there, I think we're witnessing something special."

"I think so too," Jerry sighed, "lucky ducks. I remember how wonderful it was when I discovered love the first time," he said gazing at Carl, "it's something you never forget."

"Yeah, I remember when I first met Jordo, it was love at first sniff," Seth joked.

"What? Did you sniff his butt like a dog?" Carl laughed.

"Later I did," Seth said wiggling is eyebrows, "then I humped that ass hard."

"You're disgusting," Jordy said pushing Seth playfully.

"That's me, Mr. Disgusting."

"Looks like Billy and Kim are doing okay too," Jerry noted, "as nasty as Billy is, I bet he'll wind up boning her before the day is over."

"No way, not here. Besides, I think Billy is more interested in getting to know her then bone her," Jordy said in his defense, "Sure, he was eager and willing to get off with us, but I get the feeling that with a girl it's a lot different."

"Yeah, you have to jump through more hoops and put up with more crap," Seth smirked, "with boys you get your milk for free, with girls you gotta buy the cow, or something like that."

"That...makes...no sense, but I kinda get it. It's more about romance and less about sex. I guess one reason is cause a girl can only lose her virginity once," Jordy said squinting his eyes thoughtfully.

"So can a boy, his butt cherry, I mean," Seth reminded him.

"Yeah, I suppose, but girls look at it differently, I guess."

"Hey, everyone!" Nate suddenly said, standing up near the table where the pizza was spread out, "when you've all finished your pizza we're gonna take some pics and everyone can get copies. You can post them on your Insta or whatever, but make sure it's okay with whoever is in the pic first, okay? As for me, feel free to post my pics anywhere as long as you're not mean," he chuckled, "cause if you are, my dad will sue you."

Everyone laughed at that, but they had no doubt Nate's dad was capable of doing just that. Fortunately, there was plenty of daylight for the pictures, and after they were all shared and everyone was settled, Nate spoke once again.

"First: I wanna thank everyone for coming today. I know some of you got stuff to do and will be leaving soon, so I wanted to thank you now. Second: I just want to say that I've had an awesome time and I hope you did to. I know some of you were nearly strangers when we got together today, but I hope at least some of you have made new friends," he looked directly at Billy and Kim, as well as Lee and Patsy and smiled, "the important thing is: we had fun, we had some laughs, and everyone got involved. That's what it's all about, not about little cliques and putting someone down cause they don't dress the same as you or have as much money. We're all equal, we're all important, and I love every one of you," he said looking very emotional, "so...one more thing before I shut up. I want to do this again before the summer is over, so if you had a good time I hope you'll come back. More on that later. So...that's it, party on!" he said grinning, "Mic drop," he said pretending to do so.

The applause and cat calls that followed filled the evening air before fading away into the soft conversations of boys and girls, who at least for one magical day had become closer, perhaps even friends.

By the time darkness had begun to descend upon them, only about half of the group remained. The girls had all left together, Jerry and Carl had been picked up by Carl's mom and taken to his house where Jerry would be spending the night, and Eric had been picked up by his grandpa.

Billy, who was waiting for his brother to call him, felt a bit awkward hanging around when everyone else had already left, but for the moment he was at the mercy of his brother. He knew Jordy, Seth, and Lee, as well as Warren and Rusty were spending the night, and that only added to his anxiety.

"Let's go inside, guys," Nate suggested, "the skeeters are starting to bite."

"Yeah, I wanna take a shower and wash off the chlorine," Jesse said, come on Warren, we can shower together."

"Kind of bossy, ain't he?" Seth noted when the two were gone.

"Who, Jess? He's def in charge," Nate chuckled, "but Warren is cool with it."

"Uh, would it be too much trouble if I showered and got dressed?" Billy asked timidly.

"Heck no, come on. I'll show you where, and when you're done: Rusty and I can take a turn. Seth, you and Jordy and Lee can use Jesse's shower when those two are done. I'll leave that up to you three to work out," he added chuckling.

When Billy emerged a few minutes later, now dressed in his street clothes, his trunks bundled up in his hand, he checked his cell phone once more for a message from his brother, but found none.

"Damn him," he muttered, "he knows mom and dad are out of town."

"Well, there's no hurry, make yourself at home, we'll be right back," Nate said ushering Rusty off to his bathroom.

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Rusty said once they were naked and in the shower.

"That depends, is it dirty, or about Billy, or both?" Nate chuckled.

"What?" Yes, no... I mean, it's about Billy, but not dirty. Why don't we just invite him to sleep over? I mean, I know it's not my place to do that, but it's obvious his brother is out catting around, and there's no telling when he'll show up."

"I agree, what's one more?" Nate said, leaning in to nuzzle Rusty's neck, "but the question is: who does he sleep with?" he chuckled.

Showered and dressed in shorts and tees, most commando, the boys reconvened in the lower living area and Nate took Billy aside to invite him to stay over.

"Nah, I can't," Billy said doubtfully, "I don't think your mom likes me, and anyway...I don't want to be a pest."

"Shut it," Nate said forcefully, "my mom loves everyone, but she likes to take her time to get to know someone. So, what better way for her to do that then to have you around a while longer?" Anyway, it's my party and my sleepover, and I get to decide who stays and who goes. Now, text your bro and tell him the good news, maybe he'll actually reply this time."

And unsurprisingly, he did, admitting that he'd been partying and was too drunk to come get Billy anyway. He'd been hoping he could sober up in time, but now that he knew he wasn't going to have to drive, he said he was going to grab another beer.

"He's cool with it," Billy said putting his cheap used phone away.

"Awesome, I'll go tell my folks and say goodnight to them," Nate said, come on Rusty."

"Now who's being bossy?" Rusty laughed.

"Me, and you love it," Nate said swatting Rusty's behind playfully.

"Oww...do it again," Rusty teased.

"Those two are a lot of fun," Billy said once they'd gone, "sorry about spoiling your fun and all..."

"How did you spoil our fun?" Jordy said frowning, "the more the merrier, I always say. We can have a blast, as long as we're not too noisy."

"Yeah, no squealing like a pig," Seth joked, "I'll put an apple in your mouth first."

"I bet an apple isn't the only thing you'd like to put in someone's mouth," Jordy teased back.

"For sure," Seth said grinning, "this could be some real fun, if you're up for it, Billy Boy."

"I don't know. I'm not hating the idea," the older teen said grinning, "I sort a got a case of blue balls hanging out with Kim."

"Well, we know just how to deal with such things," Seth laughed, "right, Jordo?"

"Yes, we're professionals," Jordy joked, "DDs, Dick Doctors."

Lee, who had been quiet the whole time, just shrugged. He was still in deep thought about Patsy, but willing to go along with whatever the other boys wanted, within reason. He wasn't sure he wanted to do anything sexual with Billy, but if Seth and Jordy invited him into their beds, he knew he wouldn't refuse.

"We're all set," Nate said as he hurried down the stairs, "usual warning, no drinking, no drugs, no fighting, don't burn down the place, and keep the noise down, that from my dad."

"What are we gonna do?" Jesse said from where he and Warren had been playing a video game on the large flat-screen TV.

"Well, first...anyone hungry? Cause I am," Nate said rubbing his flat tummy.

Everyone was, and after raiding the fridge and pantry upstairs, the boys settled down once again to eat their snacks.

"Ummm...I was wondering, where will I be sleeping?" Billy asked after a few minutes.

"Well, we have a guest room upstairs with a king-sized bed, and that's where Jordy and Seth were gonna sleep, and of course Jesse and Warren are sleeping in his room. Rusty is with me, so...that leaves you and Lee to share. This couch folds out into a queen-size bed, and it's actually pretty comfy. I've had a few friends over who slept on it before...and I will admit a time or two I snuck out here and joined them," he chuckled.

"Anything is fine," Billy said, "I can even sleep on the floor if Lee doesn't want to share the sofa bed..."

"Don't be silly," Lee chuckled, "There's plenty of room. I don't mind sharing."
