Most of the decorations were American country-style. However, some trinkets were from Italy, passed down through generations in honor of their dad's side of the family. Mr. and Mrs. Tarantino sat at either end of the long dining table. I sat next to Donnie and across from Sammy and Ralphie---Sammy had chosen to sit directly across from me. Mrs. Tarantino smiled warmly. "Billy, would you like some more penne and cream?" "Sure!" The milky taste of creamy alfredo sauce over the soft penne pasta, with roasted tomato balls and peppered mushrooms, was like heaven. It was an old family recipe that Mr. and Mrs. Tarantino refused to share. Mr. Tarantino smiled similarly while his wife served me more food. He was a soft and emotional man, unlike his pants-in-the-household wife. He also didn't look Italian, but that was not uncommon from the photos I'd seen online about life in northern Italy. Genetics were funny. While the whole family was pale with blue eyes, Mr. Tarantino was the only one with blond hair, whereas the others looked closer to Snow White, albeit with dark brown hair instead of black. In the face, only Sammy looked like his mom, while Ralphie and their absent older brother, Quinn, looked like their dad. Hmm, Q-R-S... I'd just realized the sons' name pattern! Sammy couldn't stop looking and smiling at me the whole time, eating his food at a slow pace. Ralphie occasionally gave us a suspicious look while largely focused on his food and talking to their parents. Donnie nudged me softly with his elbow, then leaned close to my ear, frowning. "By the way, I don't really want Ralphie to be my first. I just said that because I was mad. Sorry, Billy." Aww, Donnie... He could be super sweet when he wanted to be. I just gave him a big smile as a wave of relief hit me hard enough to feel more hopeful for tonight, even though he and Ralphie were still going to share a bed and most likely do stuff together. (That still irked me a bit.) Someone pounded on the door, startling all six of us. "I'll get that," Mrs. Taratino said with a concerned look. "I don't know who'd be knocking like that, especially in the evening." She got up and hurried to the front door on my left side, where there was a spacious foyer separated by an archway to the dining room and an archway to the living room on the other side. Voices started talking so low that I couldn't make out the words, and the front door blocked our view, so we couldn't know who it was. Mr. Tarantino gasped as if full of the kinds of emotions his wife rarely showed. He got up and smiled. "I'll be back, boys. Wait here." "Who is it, Dad?" Sammy asked. "Just wait here, okay?" Mr. Tarantino hurried off, making me extra curious. In just seconds, I could hear his muffled cries while it seemed like he was hugging someone. "Is it someone you guys haven't seen in a long time?" Donnie asked. Sammy and Ralphie shrugged, looking just as clueless. A moment later, their parents came back with teary faces, and with them, was Quinn with a reserved smile on his pretty-boy face, shocking the rest of us. "Look who just came home for the summer!" Mr. Tarantino cheered. Quinn was the actor in the family, and he totally looked it. He tried out every audition he could find, but so far, he'd only been successful with obscure ads, low-budget films, and guest appearances on niche TV shows. He'd been on a popular talk show before, though. Sammy and Ralphie jumped out of their seats and ran to give their big brother the longest hug ever, making me and Donnie smile with emotions. From what I remembered hearing, Quinn had transferred to a boarding school in New York, and the gossip in town claimed it was for "bad apples" but supposedly wasn't. Pale and blue-eyed like his brothers, his dark brown hair was stylishly shaggy. He was also taller than Ralphie, with muscles like a jock. Well, he did go to the gym a lot. I'd never been interested in anyone as old as seventeen, but Quinn was an exception that made me feel guilty for feeling stuff below, especially since he could pass for a college dude. Ralphie wasn't appealing to me at all, even though he was much younger at fourteen. But Sammy would always win in my eyes, even if I normally didn't find eleven-year-old boys interesting like that---I preferred boys my own age, like Donnie. Still, it didn't mean I couldn't look at Quinn, since there was nothing wrong with enjoying the view. He was probably more experienced than Ralphie. Maybe a "teacher" of sex stuff, too? Hmm... After dinner, Donnie took forever in the bathroom, and the scent of cherry air freshener was permeating. At least he washed well. I was relieved he wasn't going to give it up to Ralphie tonight, but to be fair, Ralphie suddenly wanted to share a bed with Quinn to catch up on old times, since they had always been close. Sammy often felt left out, but tonight, I'd make sure he wouldn't. So, Donnie had to sleep with me and Sammy if he didn't want to sleep alone, but Sammy didn't mind with his warm and welcoming self. I chose the middle, and Sammy chose the wall side, so Donnie was stuck with the door side. Sammy's room was awesome. The theme was intricately inspired by a medieval castle with an enchanted forest to express his interest in fantasy books, movies, shows, games, and music. His flame-shaped nightlight glowed a fiery yellow, soothing me. Ralphie's sporty bedroom was typical; Sammy was much more interesting in every way. But why was I suddenly horny? =====BB===== braddyboyce.wordpress.com nifty.org/nifty/authors.html#braddyboyce (c) 2023, Braddy Boyce. All rights reserved.
