Chapter 2 Cooper and Jasper find ?

 

I was in my room when dad walked in and said that both me and Jasper have to help out drain the moat and dig out all the junk in it.

 

A huge water vacuum truck is coming to the castle to suck all the mucky water out of the moat. As the moat is deep dad had some long ladders at the ready for us to climb in and out of the moat.

Dad was out shopping' well he just walked in as the limo had to stop by the gate as the big suck truck is trying to get out. "Oh hi there, sorry I was a little late." Dad said as he shook the leader's hand and then all the boy scouts hands.

 

"It looks like you might need some extra dumpsters here by the looks of things here in your moat." The scout leader or Mr. Howard remarked.

 

"Yes you might be right there' I better call for some extra dumpsters then." Dad said as he looked down into the moat. There was not much mud in it but a lot of trash and shopping trolleys and other junk that has been thrown into the moat.

 

"Ok guys, get into your mucky clothes and head down guys." John Howard yelled out as the boy scouts pulled out long rubber leggings that came to their chests. It was like those fishing leggings that fishermen use while fishing in a river.

 

Then we grabbed buckets and ropes as the scouts made a tripod so that things could be pulled out of the moat. Boyscouts are prepared by the looks of things as assorted wooden poles and ropes coming out of the large white van.

 

It took the boys about 20minutes to make a large tripod that would drop the ropes over the edge of the moat and then we would be able to pull the junk out.

 

"I have brought you all some drinks and snacks when you have a break." Dad grinned as he carried a ice chest with snacks and drinks inside it.

 

"Ok boys get a move on, we will have those canoes in the river soon enough." Mr. Howard said as the boys began to descend into the deep moat and began to pull out all the junk on the bottom and soon we had two dumpsters filled to the brim.

 

Then Jasper and I dug around some timber and then found something that looked like a huge wooden sea chest. It had a huge lock that was rusted shut.

 

"Oh, boy' is that what I think it is." Jasper squeals. "What do you think it is?" I asked him as I put a rope around the wooden box and the boy scouts then pulled it up.

 

Over by the corner of the moat one of the younger boys cries out for us to see what he found. There under a large rock is a skull. It was missing its lower jaw and then we cleaned the area and found a leg bone.

 

"OH god, it looks like we have found a skeleton." I said as I called for dad to come and have a look. He arrived and climbed down the ladder and stood next to the bones we all found.

 

"Right guys, stop for now and have a break, I have to call the cops as we don't know how long the bones have been in the moat." Dad quoted as he called 999 and asked for the police to come to the castle telling them what we found in the moat.

 

Two cops arrived and a forensic officer also arrived and asked where the bones were found. "Down there to the left." I said pointing to the hole on the bottom of the moat.

 

It took the forensic officer only an hour to find out if it is a fresh skeleton or one that has been in the moat for a real long time.

 

`Boy's you have found some history here, this skull is about 200 years old by the looks and the body must have fallen or had been dumped into the moat so it's not a murder we can solve." The police officer said as he and the forensic officer tagged and sealed the bones and would take them to a museum for a fuller check-up.

 

No more bones are found. Just a skull and some leg bones. "Oh wow, that was scary finding that skull in here." Dennis the younger boy scout announced.

 

"It was Dennis, but you found it so we will call the skull "Sir Dennis" after you." Dad chuckled. `Oh wow, thanks." Dennis grins as he gets up and grabs a soda.

 

After our snacks we had a few hours left to clean up the moat. Having over 15 boy scouts sure helped as we had finished in 4 hours. The dumpsters were filled to the brim and would be collected tomorrow.

 

Dad called to find a person to check the moat before it is refilled. But who do you call. Dad found a company who deals with underground wells and things like that. Dad had him here after we had finished and had a look around the moat and found nothing wrong with it saying the rock walls are still like new and didn't need fixing.

 

Then dad had over 15 water tankers arrive and began to refill the moat. The boy scouts are handed over a donation of 300 pounds and that would cover the canoes they needed to add to their collection.

 

Dad is happy that the scouts were able to come and asked if they would like to have a camp out in the castle. We had loads of rooms and have added a lot of beds and things that would be needed in the bed rooms.

 

The boys all cheered and Mr. Howard said the boys could come to the castle this weekend. Dad is happy and as we say good bye to the scouts Jasper then said we have the wooden chest to open.

 

I had forgotten all about it since we had the police come over and quickly cleaning up the moat that I forgot all about our treasure chest.

 

The chest is about two foot square. Not that big but big enough to have hidden jewels inside it. Dad took it to the supply room where we had some tools to open the chest.

 

Dad found a lock remover and cut the rusty lock off. He said it could not be salvaged as it was so rusted up. Dad then knocked the chest open and there inside are gold coins. Over 100 coins and some jewels are found in a smaller wooden box.

 

Dad said he would have to find out if we could keep the coins and jewels and called the minister of finds and asked for someone to come and take a look.

 

The next day a man arrived and said he was from the minister of finds and checked the treasures and said that he is happy for us to keep it as it is found on private property and a lot of coins have been found in other castles and have enough to show them off.

 

We all cheered as the man signed a note saying we could do what we liked with the find. Some of the coins would end up on the internet sites that sell top quality goods.

 

Dad said each of us would have ten coins each to do what we want with them. I knew what I was going to spend them on. More fucking Lego.

 

Jasper is staying over for the night and then he is coming to school with me in the black limo as we wanted to arrive to our high school in style that morning.
