Subject: Mattie's new life chapter 10

Mattie and Tommy carefully got Gary upstairs to their room. They helped him
remove his blood stained clothes. Thankfully Mattie had enough sense to put
on gloves before hand. They put all his clothes in a black trash bag and
tied it closed after they dated and took pictures of everything.

 Gary got embarrassed when he started to get hard in front of both Mattie
and Tommy. This didnt bother either one of them though.

 They helped him to the bathroom where Tommy had filled a bath for him with
bubbles and Epsom salts to help sooth his aching muscles.

 The boys helped Gary into the tub and told him to just relax and
rest. Push this button to call us if you need anything.

 Within easy reach of the tub was the intercom system that Mattie had told
him to use.

 Mattie and Tommy went back into their bedroom where they texted Nanny and
Becky to let them know that Gary Betz was over at the house.

 This got an immediate response from both ladies as the boys phones started
ringing. Or should I say vibrating as they had turned them to vibrate on
the way back home with Gary. So they didn't attract any unwanted attention
to themselves.

 The short of it is. We found Gary beaten, gagged,tied up and hanging by a
chain from a beam in an old abandoned building near the challenge trails at
Lincoln park.

 He refused to let us call 911 or the police in fear that his uncle Larry
or Lt Connors whose also related to him would come and get him.

 What do you two want us to do then?

 First off, don't tell anyone. Second, we are going to call ADA Dillon and
see if he can help out. I don't want to get Sheriff Booth involved cause
Lt. Connors might find out.

 Okay, we both trust you boys. Were going to be picking up the boys soon
and heading back home. Theres more things that you need to know about Trent
besides him being your business partner.

 Okay, we'll see you all when you get home.

 Juan and Jose searched the buildings surrounding the house. Just inside
the entrance they located a false panel in the floor under a rug they
kicked away. It was the smaller building right next to the storage
building. It took both the brothers to pull it opened. They both dropped
down through the opening and used a wooden block to keep the hatch propped
open.

 They had to crouched forward to go down the tunnel. It was only four feet
high and two feet wide. They came to a door that was padlocked.

 Juan was easily able to pick the lock and slip inside.

 Jose stayed there to keep watch.

 Juan walked over to a crate and realized it held a boy inside. One of the
panels was opened and he could see him inside. Suddenly he heard what
sounded like a door being unlock.

 Juan quickly slipped under the cloth skirted table cover the crate sat on.

 Clack clack clack could be heard of the approaching foot steps.

 Well hello their,remember me boy.

 Nicolas craned his neck around and looked into the ladies eyes. A light of
familiarity went off in his head. It was the lady from the hospital. The
states child services lady.

 You look good in your leather slave outfit. But this time you won't be
getting away. Tonight you'll be sold and by this time tomorrow afternoon,
I'll have your entire inheritance as well as eight million dollars from
your sale. You already know your new masters. Their the two brothers who
enjoyed your hardbody the other night. The Arab sheik princes have agreed
to my price.

Don't worry, dressed as your are. You'll fit right in as their slave
boy. But don't fret none cause soon your brother Mattie will be joining
you.

 I don't know what that lady just stuck me with but I was getting drowsy as
I heard walk away. Before I passed out I felt my body being lifted up and
carried but that's the last thing I remembered.

  Juan tapped his foot and his brother entered the room.

 They searched the room and located three boys that were bound and
gagged. It seemed that they all had been chloroform and were knocked out.

 It was now or never they thought. Jose and Juan carried the three
unconscious boys back through the tunnel then up the trap door. They went
back and locked the back door. Then went back to the shed where the boys
lay unconscious.

Sal and Gary saw the truck back up to the garage. They watched the crate
being loaded onto the back of the truck. It was the lady along with one of
her associates that got into the truck. Along with the same driver that
Jeff had seen the other night at the doctors cabin. The Vancouver police Lt
was up front.

 This left just two men to watch the three boys.

 Sal was unable to get ahold of his brothers. Some type of interference was
disrupting communications between them.

 Gary and Sal followed the truck with Jeff bringing up the rear. They took
the back roads and got to the cut off before the truck did. Now it was just
a waiting game.

 The truck ran over something and the front tire blew out. So they were
forced to pull over.

 Margaret called the number on the card and the two arab sheik princes
agreed to meet her. They left in their private helicopter to go pick her
up.

 Gary heard the helicopter fly over and knew something was amiss. Quickly
they went back towards the estate using the main road this time cause it
was faster.

 When they arrived the sight before them was the crate being loaded into
the helicopter. Once finished it took off into the air. Gary realized that
he was to late.

 Jeff checked that his tracking chip was still working. It was but once the
helicopte was to far away and the signal was lost.

Nicolas was gone.

 They checked the vehicle but noone was in it. Everyone had to have gotten
on to the helicopter.

When the two vehicles returned to the estate, Juan and Jose were nowhere to
be found. Their cell phones could not be reached and their truck was gone.

 The other vehicles at the house were also gone. This really baffled Sal as
his brothers were retired special forces and for someone to be able to get
the drop on them was inconceivable.

 They needed to regroup.



Juan and Jose were unable to contact anyone in their group. So they
improvised. They took the boys to their vehicle and put them in the back
seat and covered them with a blanket.  They knew that they must get these
boys back into the United States before anyone got on to their trail. They
headed for a rarely used backed trail they would use when they needed to
smuggle something into Canada. This would be the first time they ever
smuggled something out.



 Johnny arrived at the hospital and was taken to where ADA Dillon and the
boys were at.

 The doctor had already finished checking the boys out. It was determined
that they were malnourished and physically abused. They also showed signs
of sexually abused. Presently the boys were having saline solution being
administered through their IV's. The boys were being admitted to run
further test to determine the extent of their injuries.

Johnny agreed to stay with the boys so Joe could get back to the
courthouse. He had several more arraignments that were scheduled for that
afternoon.

 At a small warehouse on the docks, the bully boys were having a meeting.

 Firstly boys I need you all to know that my nephew Gary has strayed from
our family. So a few of us decided he should be disciplined. Don't worry
none about him though. Cause after a few days of his punishment, he'll be
back in the fold. This should be a warning for you others. Family doesn't
stray or you'll pay dearly.

 Now we have a shipment coming in tonight that needs to be processed
properly this time. Our last shipment was mishandled and we lost have of
it. I want it ready for delivery by the end of the month. We will all work
in shifts. Don't worry about missing school as I've been able to get you
reassigned as our interns. This way you'll still be earning your school
credits for the classes you'll be missing. Vice principal Porter has seen
to this.

 Also you all must know by now.  Mattie O'Leary has been released from the
hospital. He is to be avoided for the time being unless you get into a
conflict with him. But we have a plan presently in the works that will
eradicate him as a problem.





 Juan, Jose and their cargo arrived at the Pend Oreille River after several
hours of tracking through the thick forest trees. They decided to set up
camp at an old abandoned shack that they've used in the past. It was
decided that they would scout the area over the next few hours to work out
all details to their crossing into the United States.



ADA Dillon's phone rang while he was in the elevator. He had a long day
dealing with all the court arraignments involving the Lucky Days Escort
Service.

 Hello, this is ADA Dillon speaking.

 Sir, this is Mattie O'Leary and we need your help.

 Yes Mattie, what is it that you need?

 Well sir we happened upon a situation that involves an injured boy. We
were hoping that you could send your doctor to check him out like you did
for Ricky.

 I think that's a job for his parents.

 Sir we don't believe he has parents

Did you try calling 911 or the police?

 Well sir, that's where the problem lies. He's in fear cause his cousin is
a police office. We feel that he is involved in all of this somehow.

 Do you happen to know who the officer is.

 Lt. Connors of the Kettle Falls police department sir.

 Okay now Mattie, can you tell me the name of the boy?

 You have to promise that you won't tell anyone.

 In strictest confidence, I'll only tell those that need to know.

 His name is Gary Betz sir.

 I see why you are being very cautious about all this. I'll call up my
doctor friend to come by the Brownstone and check him out. Just so you boys
know, I'll be letting Johnny Astin know about all this as well.

 Okay sir we trust you.

 Now about the police. I feel it's of utmost importance that you allow me
to tell Sheriff Booth about this. Gary could be a major witness in an
ongoing investigation that the Sheriff is presently investigating.

 That wouldn't be the investigation that I'm involved in, would it sir?

 Yes that would be the one.

 Gary wasn't there sir. Hes not involved.

 That might be true but he may have heard information vital to the
prosecution on those that were involved.

 Well okay, we trust your judgement sir.

 Good. Now can Gary stay at your house for the time being.

 Tommy had been listening to this whole conversation. But Mattie wanted his
boyfriends advice.

 Just one moment sir. I need to ask Tommy what thinks.

 Do you think that he'll be a problem Tommy?

 It doesn't matter Mattie. Right now he doesn't have anyone on his side. I
know that we've had run ins with him and the bully boys but I think he's
having doubts about all of it now. Since you've moved here and made a
stance Mattie, many people have seen that the bully boys are vulnerable and
can be stood up too.

 Sir, sorry about the wait.

 What's your decision.

 Gary will be staying here for as long as he wishes.

 Good. The doctor will be by within an hour.

 Thank you sir.

Click.

 A few small tears escaped from the corner of Gary's eyes. He had pressed
the intercom button to ask one of the boys for help and inadvertently heard
the entire phone conversation. Even though it had been one sided, he could
hear that Mattie and Tommy were on his side.

Sound of car pulling up.

 Mattie and Tommy went and knocked on the bathroom door.

 Come in Gary called out.

 How are you feeling?

 Much better thank you.

 Do you think that you can wash yourself or do you need help.

 Gary was to embarrassed to ask for any help. But after Gary dropped the
soap and rag for the forth time, Mattie and Tommy had seen enough.

 They stepped forwarded and removed their tshirts so not to get them
wet. Each boy took a rag and soap them up to a good lather. They washed
Gary as gently as they were able to. It was apparent that he was hurting
from the ordeal he went through.

 Voices could be heard coming from the otherside of the door.

  The boys felt Gary tensing up.

 It's okay Gary, theres no need to be afraid. It's only Lee and Trent.

 I'm just so screwed up right now Gary finally was able to get out.

 It's alright Gary. Everyone of us has had to deal with similar problems
that you are going through right now.

 Knocking on the door.

 Please don't let anyone come in.

 Yes whose there?

 Tommy its Lee, Nanny wanted to know if you think Gary could handle some
bone broth.

 Yes Lee. Tell Nanny to heat it up to only warm and put it in a mug.

 Okay Mattie. Well be downstairs. Just call us if you need any help.

  Tommy pulled the plug to the drain the tub. Then Mattie and Tommy helped
Gary to stand so they could rinse his hair and body off. Once finished they
helped him out of the tub and dried him off. Carefully they brushed Gary's
hair and helped him back into the bedroom.

 Gary, Trent is about your size so Lee is getting you a pair of his
underwear.

 That's okay, I can just put my own pair on.

 No you can't Gary. They are evidence now.

What do you mean evidence.

Against who ever beat you up. Theres blood on them and that could possibly
belong to the people who did this to you.

 I could never testify against them. I'd be looking over my shoulder for
the rest of my life. You know maybe this was a mistake. Just get me my
clothes so I can leave.

Your hurt Gary and can barely stand on your own. At least stay the night
and see how you feel in the morning.

 Okay, I'll stay the night but only because I don't have any other place to
go right now.

Tommy kneeled down in front of Gary and helped him into the pair of silky
underwear.

 Oh wow, these underwear feel so good.

 Thats because they're silk and feels cool against your skin. Now lay back
and rest.

 Knocking on the door.

 Come in.

 Thanks for heating that up Lee.

 Gary saw Lee come into the room carrying a tray with a cup of something
with steam coming out of it.

 Lee set the tray down on the beds side table.

 Here is some bone broth and lightly buttered toast for you Gary.

 Mattie the doctors downstairs.

 Okay Lee, tell him to come up.

 Lee left to go send the doctor up.

A scared look came across Gary's face.

 What do you mean a doctors here.

 Well you wouldn't let us call 911 or the police. So we called a good
friend of ours who sent over his doctor.

 No tell him that I'm fine. Send him away.

Gary your not fine. You've been beat up really bad. From the bruises we've
seen on your body, you probably have broken some ribs as well as gotten a
concussion.

Knocking.

Tommy went over to the door and opened it.

Joe told me that theres another badly hurt boy here.

Right this way Dr.

He came in and saw the boy Mattie from the other night but in the bed
besides him was badly injured boy.

Calm down Gary, hes here to help you.

Hello young man. I'm Dr Preston and a friend of a very important person in
this town. You have nothing to worry about.

 Well just go down stairs while you examine Gary doctor.

 Please Mattie. Please Tommy stay with me.

Boys I think it would be best if you stayed here with your friend.

Gary heard what the doctor said. Were Mattie and Tommy my friends.

Yes doctor, that would be a great idea. Friends always need to stick
together.

Mattie and Tommy came back and sat down together on the small couch next to
the bed. When they looked over and saw Gary staring back at him, they saw a
single tear escape from the corner of his eye. It trickled down his face
before dripping off his cheek.

The doctor had the boys help him hold and move Gary so as not to hurt him
to bad. After and hour of examining the boy, he was through.

 Now you keep those ribs wrapped and change the bandages on you head every
day.  You'll need to rest and relax for a minimum of a week before
attempting to do anything physical.  You've bruised most of your ribs. Also
you have cuts throughout your body.  Most significant is your concussion.

 You two boys will need to keep him awake for the next twelve hours. Now I
want him to take one of these every eight hours. They will help him deal
with the pain. I'll be back on Friday to check on him.

Young man.

Yes sir.

It's very important that you rest as much as you possibly can.  I don't
know who did this to you but if they had continued and your two friends
hadn't found you. It would probably be the coroner's doctor looking you
over right now. I'll leave you in your friends caring hands.

 Thank you sir.

Doctor left.

Mattie and Tommy sat down on either side of Gary on their king size bed.

Gary, I want you to know what the doctor said is true. That you are amongst
friends.

 Friends don't try to hurt each other like I did to you.

 That's in the past Gary. I was new and we didn't know each other. I'm
willing to let it pass and you should be able to also.

I'll try Mattie and Tommy. I want to thank you two for what your doing.

 Don't fret about it. Were going to take turns sitting with you for the
next three days.

Lee do you mind taking the first watch?

Not at all Mattie. We'll see what's on TV and I'll make sure that Gary
stays awake.

 Mattie leaves the room and Lee sits in the reclining chair next to Gary's
bed. He presses the remote control turning on the fifty five inch wide
screen TV.

 The two boys settled on watching Mrs. Doubtfire.

 Johnny was helping the two boys use the bathroom when a knock came to the
door and in walked Joe.

 He came right over to his son Allen and bent down to kiss him on his
cheek. He turned and saw Johnny helping his nephew Sean out of the bathroom
and back into bed. Joe also kissed him on his cheek as well.

 Well boys, I've talked to the doctor and he said that you'll be ready to
come back home in a few days.

Allen and Sean covered their heads and cried out that they didn't want to
go back. Please don't make us go back to that place.

 Joe reached out for both boys hands.

 Honey's, you'll never have go back to that place ever again. Your both
coming home to live with me.

 The boys face got a surprised looked on them. Could it be true. That their
ordeal was over.

 Really the boys asked.

 Yes boys, really.

The smiles that appeared on their small faces was priceless.

 Knocking

 The boys, male nurse Brad enters with dinner. I have meatloaf, carrots and
applesauce with a slice of vanilla cake. How many are eating.

We are the boys said.

Brad sets a tray down in front of each boy.

 How about the two of you?

We don't want take away from the others.

Well Dr Russell figured you two would be here and had two extra trays sent
up.

 Well in that case, send them in.

 Mattie relieved Lee after three hours so he could go down and eat.

 How are you doing now Gary?

 Much better then I was six hours ago. If the two of you hadn't to happened
to come by when you did.

 It's okay Gary. Everything happens for a reason. Now you need to rest so
you can heal yourself. You dont need to worry any cause our friendship will
only grow as well.

 I'd really like that to happen but I'm fearful that it won't. Once the
others find out where I'm at. It will mean doom for not only me but all of
you as well.

That's where your wrong Gary. You have friends now that will stick by your
side. I'm not just talking about Tommy and me. Theres also Trent and Lee as
well as Nanny and Becky. Plus the doctor and our friend that sent
him. Along with several others that you don't even know yet. The thing is
Gary, when anyone of us get into a jam, were always going to be there to
stand by their side. And now Gary, your apart of our group. So all of us
will always have your best interest at heart.

But why me.

Why not you Gary? Don't you deserve the right to have friends that care
about you. Ones that want the best for you.

 This was all starting to sink in. Everything that Mattie as well as Tommy
had said to him. He had never had any real friends since his parents died
and he had to leave the only place he ever knew as home. This happened when
he was just starting school. It was okay for awhile cause he moved in with
his aunt. But then his uncle Larry got his hooks in him. He was relentless
in destroying his innocents. He always talked about hateful things. How he
was better then everyone else. That if you weren't a part of his family,
then you were an outcast that needed to be put into there place.

 Mattie could see that Gary was in deep thought. He could only hope that
Gary would make the best decision for himself.

 Lee came upstairs and knocked. He peaked his head inside and told Mattie
that Nanny wanted to see him downstairs. He would take the next shift
sitting with Gary who was finally aloud to sleep.

 Mattie walked into the kitchen and saw Tommy sitting at the kitchen table
with Trent at the breakfast bar.

 Nanny asked Mattie to sit down.

Boys I didn't get a chance to finish telling you everything from the other
day.

 All new equipment has been installed in Wishes Bakery and is now fully
operational. I've used some money to stock the entire store.

Trent has been baking goods to get ready for the town's annual runners
festival that starts in two days. Lee will be helping Trent run the Wishes
Bakery Booth.

 Also the entire top floor of the bakery has been converted into a three
bedroom two and a half bathroom secured residence.  It has direct access to
the bakery and a panic room has been also built. Theres a blind spot that's
an emergency exit. You all have everything that you boys would need to stay
for up to a week in the panic room.

 Mattie, I know that you have discovered hidden doors and rooms throughout
this house. I'm tasking the two of you boys to search and seek out all of
them.

 Besides the envelope I gave you the other day, your father wanted this to
be given to his two sons upon his death.

 But since Nicolas hasn't yet been found and you need to know the secret
your father hid and wanted you boys to find. I'm giving you two the task to
discover that secret.

 Mattie took the envelope and handed it to Tommy.

 Now lastly.

Trent is my responsibility until he turns nineteen when his trust kicks in.

 Your father was good friends with his father and signed a contract for
either one to raise the others children in case of their death.

 Tommy and Mattie,now that you two boys are a couple, we can only hope that
it last the tests of time.

 Becky spoke up next.

 The key to a long and strong relationship is communication between the two
of you. Honesty and Love.

Give each other their space when they need it. Cause true love will win
over any obstacles that the two of you will encouter.

 Lee came walking in dressed in his Gi.

 Are we going to practice today or not. I want to put this trauma behind me
and I need my two best friends by my side in order to achieve my goal.

 What about Gary.

 He's fine. He's asleep upstairs. I had him drink the the milk that Nanny
gave me.

The boys knew that Gary would be asleep for a good while. They rose and
grabbed Lee's hands and took him to the basement training and practice
room. They practiced their techniques and moves based on their belt
classification. Then they paired up two against Mattie and fought him. It
was an exhausting workout but got each boys mindset focused better.

Afterwards the boys showered and dressed in jeans and their play tshirts.

 Tommy opened the envelope Mattie had given him. They discovered two maps
inside and a list of objects.

Mattie located his closet on the map and had Tommy mark it.

The boys then opened the dumbwaiter door and got inside. Pushing the bottom
button,they went down to the bottom floor.

  Mattie asked Lee to show Tommy how to turn on the lights. After this was
done, Tommy was able to see just how large this room really was.

Tommy was in charge of marking the locations on the map.

The boys spent about fifteen minutes opening up boxes in the room that were
on the shelves. They discovered that they were filled with can goods of all
types. It seemed there were enough supplies in that room to support about
fifteen to twenty people for a year.

 Lee called out to Mattie and Tommy.

Lee walked over to the area where the light changed to dark. Taking his
flashlight, Lee spotted a breaker box switch. He walked over to the panel
and pulled the handle down.

 When nothing happened Tommy walked over to see if he could help.

 After reading the start up instructions, Tommy pushed the handle back up
to the off position. Then he flipped all the switches on one by one. The
next step was to pump up the pressure system. After the red light turned
yellow, Tommy pulled the handle back down and everyone watched the panel
lights turn green one by one.

 Mattie walked further into the darkness until he reached the far side of
the room. Spotting a switch panel on the wall with his flashlight, Mattie
flipped on all the switches as everyone watched the dark become light.

The boys gasped when they finally realized the true size of the room they
were in.

 There were four doors going off the room. Checking the doors out they
discovered that one was marked control center while the other three were
marked sleeping quarters, kitchen and lavatory. At the end of the room was
a freight elevator. The panel had two down buttons on it.

 Lee used his flashlight and followed the tracks to two doorways that
opened to reveal tunnels going slightly down and around a wide bend.

 The boys jumped on the hand car on the right side and pumped the handle
which moved them down the track.

Every twenty feet was a light that illuminated the tunnel. The boys were
able to hear traffic coming from somewhere above them.

 Soon they came to a junction that opened up into a larger cavern.  There
was one tunnel that looked large enough for a vehicle to travel through. On
the walls were shelves that had more boxed supplies and maintenance tools.

 Tommy marked the tracks locations and cavern on the map. They continued
until they came to the end of the tracks.

On the maps legend, Tommy estimated that they had traveled four miles.

 Lee spotted a ladder raising upward out of the tunnel.

 The boys chose to see where it went to.

 Climbing up about one hundred rungs the ladder stopped at a panel that
took both Lee and Mattie's combined strength to push up and slide it
away. The noise that they all heard was of rushing water. The boys walked
along the metal grate until it came to a doorway.

   Opening the door, the boys stepped forward and found themselves on the
gang way of what could only be Kettle Falls Dam.

 Each boy took a few pictures of where they were before deciding it was
best that they returned.

 Going back the way they came, Tommy saw a switch. He pushed it and a
hidden panel opened. He found a catch that released the hatch. This made it
much easier for them to open the hatch.

 Climbing back down they found another panel that when pressed would either
close or open the panel. Inside was a box with five keys in it.

 They checked each one and discovered they all fit the key slot that locked
the latch and panel.

 After climbing back down the ladder to the hand car, Lee saw another key
hole that all the keys fit once again. This released a metal panel that
prevented anyone from entering into the tunnel system unless you had a
key. It would also prevent you from going up the ladder as well.

 After Tommy made all the notes on the map, the boys went back to where the
tracks began.

 With their adrenaline rush still pumping, the boys used the switchbacks to
put the hand car on the other tracks.

This time the boys came to a door after only travelling five minutes. They
checked their keys and all of them opened the doors lock. Inside the room
were four large safes. One of them happened to be opened.

Inside was a very heavy chest. The size of a loaf of bread. It had a lock
on it but the key hole opening was a very strange shape.  Together it took
the three of them to carry it out of the room and put it in the hand car.

Back in the room, the boys took more pictures and tried their keys. On the
way out Lee tripped and by accident opened up a hidden door. It lead to
another room that opened up into a tunnel. It looked like it was a mining
tunnel. The walls sparkled as the flashlight shined upon the walls. The
boys had no idea what it was but would check it out later. Tommy used his
phone and took a couple a pictures using his flash.

It was getting late so the boys locked up everything and went back to the
switchback.

 After carrying the chest back inside the first room, the boys closed off
the track tunnel doors and locked them with their new found keys .

 They decided it best to put the chest on the dumbwaiter and go back to the
room.

  They shut off the lights and returned to the closet.

 Lee and Tommy took the chest out of the dumbwaiter as Mattie locked it in
place.

   Trent was sitting with Gary who was still sleeping soundly when he
started hearing strange noises coming from below his feet and in the walls.

 The expression on Trent's face was priceless as Lee, Tommy and Mattie came
walking out of the closet. Their clothes were covered in dirt and smelling
like nothing he had ever smelled before.

 Hi Trent the boys said.

 Where did you three come from?

The closet?

 No I mean, just now.

 The closet.

 We'll explain but we're all in need of a shower right now.

 How's Gary doing?

 That milk Gary drank has him still sleeping peacefully.

 Trent watched all three boys stripped out of their clothes and down to
their diapers.

 Trent was getting a hard on watching Lee strip down.

 The boys were laughing and having a good time as they went off to take a
shower.

Bill's signature all over the first page giving up his guardianship of him.

 Turning the page he then saw on the second page who was going to be his
new guardian. He couldn't believe that Nanny Marie had signed and Becky
Lucas had witnessed her signatures.

 Each page of paperwork had the raised seal of a notary stamp. On the next
to last page Gary saw a federal judges signature and the Washington State
notary seal stamped over his name.

  The tears were flowing down Gary's face as he continued to read.

  He finished the last page and put the papers back in the folder.

 Mattie got up and went over to the intercom.

Connors and Larry Betz Sr.

 That was a concern we have as well. We can have an officer stay here with

 Juan was carrying Pauley on his back and Jose was carrying Simon. They
made it back to where they were on their first trip into the United
States. All the boys bedded down in an old bear cave. They had been moving

 At five thirty five in the morning a small group got on the bus for Kettle

took a shower. They got dressed in their spandex running shorts and loaded
their backpack with their old running shoes. Downstairs they had a protein
drink and tossed a couple of oranges and some water into their shared
backpack. In the foyer, the boys grabbed their Lincoln Park Invitational
running numbers then headed for downtown after they locked up the house.




 Trent and Lee had baked the prepared items from the day before. With
everything on trays and loaded into Nannys Bronco, they all headed to the
festival.

 They backed up to their booth and open it up. They put the baked goods in
the refrigerators. Set up the displays and turned on the all natural and
organic juice machine.

 Today Trent made some doggy treats for any dogs that might come by. In
addition Lee filled two doggy water dishes and placed them on the ground
out front.



Mattie and Tommy arrived at the starting line at nine a.m. They checked in
and got their numbers.

 The loud speaker announced for all twelve year old and under mile
contestants please come to the starting line. The race will be starting ten
minutes.

 Tommy looked around and saw a couple boys who he knew were much older the
twelve years old running in the race.

 Mattie see those three boys over there.  They go to Colville High School
and are in the ninth grade. They all have brothers in the sixth grade and
I'll bet anything that there running under their names.

 Well then I guess we will just have to beat them as well.

 Remember Tommy that we need to get over to Lincoln Park by eleven am for
the start of the Cross Country Invitational.

 Runners to your mark.

 The starters gun goes off and around 36 boys take off running. The crowd
applauds as the kids pass by them.

 The three older boys start to bump anyone who attempts to pass them. So
Tommy and I keep wide of them but when their distracted by another boy
trying to pass them, Tommy and I both sprint by them.

 They immediately give chase but neither one of us slows down. The trio
wasn't expecting two little kids to be able to get by them as well as out
run them.

 Neither one of us saw one of them call someone on their phone.

 The race path turned and went around a building. This was a blind spot in
the race that only had a couple of volunteers posted. On the back side we
saw four older boys walking out onto the race track.

 Two race officials were having trouble getting them out of the way.

 At the last minute two of the boys tried to sweep our legs out but Tommy
and I just jumped over them like we were running the hurdles.

 When we passed the halfway point the time clock said 2:23. We knew there
was no way for us to run a four minute mile. But we could beat the twelve
and under mile record.

 Tommy and I glanced over our shoulders and saw that we had a large lead.

 It looks like numbers twelve and twenty five are in the lead and could
beat the record of four minutes and fifty six seconds.

  With one hundred yards to go a golf cart pulled onto the course right
behind and tried to run us over.

 Two police officers quickly ran out onto the course and got control of the
cart as Tommy crossed the finish line at 4:46 and I crossed it at 4:48.

 The trio came in at 5:23, 5:34 and one of the boys they pushed at the
beginning came in before them at 5:12 to take third place.

 They protested that we interfered with them but then Tommy pointed out to
the judges that they were using their three younger brothers school ID to
run the race.

 We gave them our names and told them that we needed to get over to Lincoln
Park for the eleven o'clock cross country race.

 Its ten twenty five now. The only way your going to make it is to run
there.

 So Tommy and I took off and went as the crow flies. We figured that we
could cut a few minutes off our run going that way.

 We looked at the time on the clock tower and it read ten fifty. We never
noticed that two men that were following us.

 We finally arrived at ten fifty five.

 The coach ran over to us and helped us put on our race numbers. We quickly
checked in and just as we finished signing our name. The starters gun
sounded.

 We took off in a sprint through the crowd and crossed the starting line in
last place.

 Tommy went first and I drafted his shoulder and then we switched and he
drafted me. We were passing through the runners but had to zig zag around a
few of them. These runners also didn't play fair.

 We had been blocked by a group older boys that wouldn't let us pass them.

 I took the lead and ran right up the middle of them. We were getting
pushed and shoved but each time they did that we were able to pass by
them. Now it was just four boys stretched out in front of us. These were
the boys from earlier who tried unsuccessful to block us.

 Our halfway point time was 6:32 and the leader was only twenty feet in
front of us. Tommy and I passed them one by one.

 When we cleared the woods, there was only one boy in front of us. Tommy
and I passed the three quarter way mark and separated.  We ran on both
sides of the leader.

 We knew he could only take one of us out this way if he tried to.  As we
cleared the last hill, the three of us were running neck in neck.

  Tommy slowly moved closer to the boy as I broke off in a sprint at the
four forty mark and passed them both by.

 I was only two hundred yards away from the finish line when out of nowhere
a big work out ball rolled right in front of my path.

 I dove over the ball and onto my hands.  then flipped back onto my feet
and kept running.  I could hear the applause in the foreground as I passed
the finish line. The official time was 13:56.

 Tommy finished second with 14:04.

 Third went to the Senior from Seattle who was last years State Champion
with a time of 14:15 which was his best time ever.

 Protest were immediately filed by the coach's of the third, fourth and
fifth place finishers.

 The Kettle Falls cross country coach came over to congratulate us.

 How long do we have until the half marathon starts?

 You two boys must be crazy or something.  You first ran the mile and then
had to run three miles over here so you could run two more miles and now
your going to run the half marathon. Thirteen and three tenth miles.

 If that's the case then let me give you a ride over there.

 Mattie and Tommy used the towel that coach Mike had given them to wipe
down there bodies some. They drank some water also. They had twenty minutes
before the half marathon started.

 The boys with the help of coach Mike were registered for free after it was
determined that they had already registered for two other races today.

 Tommy asked the coach to watch their back pack for them which he gladly
did.

 The race started and the boys took off and only after five miles the field
was pretty stretch out.  Tommy and Mattie were still trailing the lead
pack.

 They were now running against men who did this for a living.

 At the ten mile mark, Tommy was ahead of Mattie who were just behind the
lead group of five runners.

 Word had reached the finish line that two very young boys were within
reach of the lead pack with only two miles to run.

 The group was averaging seven minutes and twenty five second miles.

 The men couldn't believe that these two young boys with great stamina were
only about a half mile behind them.

 At the half mile mark the lead group now only two men started who started
their final sprint and pulled away from the two boys who trailed them but
no others were closer then they were.

  The winner had a time of 1:17:54. Second place was 1:18:15.

 Third place finished at 1:34:06

 Fourth place finished at 1:34:51

 Tommy and Mattie finished together holding hands at 1:46:17 taking fifth
and sixth places

Both boys still didnt stop. They did slow down but didn't stop until they
reached downtown and found the Wishes Bakery booth.

 It was there that they collapsed into two empty folding chairs.

 Good, we guess.

 That's not what we heard. You finished first and second in the kids twelve
and under mile race. Then went on to finish first and second in the cross
country invitational.

finished fifth and sixth just now in the half marathon.

 A group of boys were sitting at one of the outside tables in front of a
diner when in walked two men with a boy.

 Mary was just coming from the kitchen when she looked up and saw her son
Nicky with two men.

 Mary dropped the tray she was carrying onto the counter and yelled Nicky
as she ran over to her son and hugged him tightly. Tears were streaming
down her face.

 Juan and Jose smiled at seeing their hard work had paid off. The mother
and son were reunited.

 Finally looking up, she thanked the two men for returning her son.

 Could your please call the sherriff's office and let him know that we need
to have a word with him. We have more boys but don't know where to take

 Quickly Mary shouted out to Susan to call Sheriff Booth's cell phone.

not the two men. The officers walked up as Mary comes outside with Nicky at

 Juan and Jose gladly handed the Sheriff their drivers license as well as
their private investigators license.

 How did you happened to find these three boys?

An invitation only event was happening at the palace. There was a massive

 Cries and screams of protest were heard as they dragged him away.




Sheriff Booth opened Mattie's door and asked him to look inside the back
seat of the truck and see if he could identify the person as one of the
kids that attacked him.

 Mattie walked over and looked inside but the boy was lying on his side
facing the back seat.

I cant tell officer Booth.

Then open the door and roll him over.

Mattie thought that was odd but did as he was told.

 He opened the back door then reached inside and started to turn the boy
over.

 Leave me alone the boy said.

 Mattie was stunned by what he just heard. He knew that voice. But it
couldn't be. So Mattie tried once again.

 I said leave me alone if you know whats good for you.

 You and what army. You always fought like a sissyboy.

 Nicholas's ears perked up when he heard that voice.

 Slowly he turned his head around and the saw tears pouring out of his twin
brothers eyes.

 Mattie
 Nicolas

They said each others names simultaneously.

 Tommy had walked over to watch just in case the person tried something to
his boyfriend.

 The two brothers hugged each other as loud crying erupted.

Tommy rushed in thinking Mattie might have been hurt.

Take your hands off him or you'll have more trouble then you can deal with.

 Nicolas looked up at the boy and saw a surprised expression on his face.

 Your not Mattie but look an awful lot like him.

 Whose that Mattie?

Nicolas I want you to meet my boyfriend Tommy.

 Tommy this is my brother Nicolas.

 I'm sorry, I didn't mean what I said just now.

Of course you did but it's alright Tommy.  I'm really happy that Mattie has
someone in his life.

Whispering to each other.

Mattie this one just might be a keeper.

I sure hope so Nicolas.

The boys hugged and cried. Tommy gave them their privacy but they wouldn't
have any of that. Nicolas had Tommy get in too.

 Sheriff Booth had gotten statements from Juan and Jose and told them that
they could collect the reward on Monday.

 Simon and Pauley were put into officer Anderson patrol cruiser and taken
down to the station. The police would try to track the boys relatives down
as well as take their statements.

 Sheriff came over to the boys and told them he was taking them back to the
Brownstone..




 Wow the brothers are back together and Nicky has returned.
 I sure hope that Pauley and Simon have relatives to take them in or they
might end up at The Spokane Boys Home.
 I sure hope Gary is safe from his uncle and cousin.
What the heck is the package being delivered at the docks.
 What do they have planned that will take care of the Mattie problem.

 Tell next chapter more questions will be answered .

I'll be writing chapters 8 and 9 of finding my way next before I get back
to Mattie's new life.
