Chapter 40

The ride back from the lake passed so freaking slowly. Mom says the post-vacation drive home always seems longer because the excitement has waned, unlike when you’re headed somewhere fun. I’ve never really noticed it before, but this time she was dead on. Cam and I mostly just chilled and talked.

We both plastered pics to our Instagram pages that made our relationship obvious. We’re now officially, completely out. Well, minus my father, but whatever, he doesn’t matter. My post Saturday of us kissing each other’s cheeks in the ranger tower seemed to be received well, and Cam added several hearts and rainbows to the description of the picture Craig snapped of us on the dock last night. We’ve both shared things to Snapchat that were ‘gay’, but only visible to those who already knew. What we uploaded to Insta would be crystal clear to everyone. Neither of us are super into social media compared to some kids, but it was liberating to say ‘fuck it’ and just be open and honest.

We were looking over the comments as Craig drove. “Wow, I can’t believe how many likes you have on yours already,” Cam commented.

“Yeah. It’s almost my most liked photo, and it’s barely been 24 hours.” I scrolled through the comments. Most were from girls at school commenting how ‘cute’ and ‘adorable’ we are. God, girls can be so cringey. But hey, I’ll take the positive vibes.

I expected to find some smartass or snide remarks, but there were none — so far. Honestly, I’m to the point of not caring. I know there are some fuckheads around, but I don’t give two shits what they think. Even better was the fact that a few of the likes came from guys at school who I assumed might be homophobic assholes. Perhaps they’re smart enough to realize it’s a good way to get some of the girls to like them? Or maybe they are just more open-minded than I realized? I guess I shouldn’t prejudge people. I mean if I don’t want to suffer prejudice, I need to be aware of that impulse.

“Of course… effing Justin Jenkins,” Cam commented snidely as I was scrolling.

“Who?” I asked.

Cam showed me a comment on his post:

         “ I knew it! So gay…”

“A kid at your school?” I surmised.

“Yeah. Basically, the Brady Jacobs of Widmer. I need to shut him up. Should I just ignore it, delete it, or is there a witty comeback?”

“Hmm,” I pondered. “Comment back. Tell him the answer is still no, he’ll have to find someone else to blow him, that you have higher standards.”

“Perfect,” Cam answered as he typed, laughing. “He’ll be so fucking pissed.”

“You think you’ll catch much shit tomorrow?” I asked. I’m aware word spread to Widmer after the S.N.O. incident, but wasn’t sure whether Cam’s entire school knows he’s gay.

He shrugged. “Maybe, but I don’t care. Better to get it over with and move on. It hasn’t been bad so far, and us kissing at the dance reached Widmer, so this shouldn’t be a shocking revelation to most people.”

“True,” I agreed. “I mean a few times have been awkward, but it’s mostly been fine, even better. I mean, Liam would never have made a connection otherwise.”

“Good point. Maybe there will be positive parts and I’ll meet new friends. Or at least make it more obvious who the dicks are.”

***

By the next morning, Cam’s biting comment to Justin had over 20 likes. Not only did Cam show him up, it was clear he had support. Nice. That made me feel better, like I could worry less about him at school.

I received a message from Liam, as well. He said his ‘rents decided to make the Monday holiday another technology-free day and he was dying to hear about the rest of my weekend. I knew, after our Friday night session of sending racy pics, he was hoping for details about our various romps.

Me: “It was great. Let’s just say I won’t need to use my mom’s lotion any time soon.”

Liam: “LOL. Details at lunch?”

Me: “Better not. The lunch ladies might overhear and I’d end up in the office.”

I almost made a joke about it being more than Jamie could handle, but remembered that only I knew Jamie has same-sex attractions. Okay, that might not be completely true. Seb has to be picking up on his signals, right? He isn’t exactly subtle. Still, it wasn’t my place to tell Liam.

Liam: “LMBO true… cya at school.”

I assumed that would have normally read as ‘lmao’, but I don’t think Liam swears. It was kind of charming. He’s just different, but in a good way.

***

The hall to my team pod was jammed. I quickly found out why. A crowd was gathered right in front of my locker.

“Oh shit, he’s here,” I heard from afar.

I wondered what the eff was going on. The mass of puberty began to dissipate as I approached. Finally, I noticed what was causing the commotion. Someone had printed out both the picture of Cam and I on the dock and of him kissing my cheek, and taped them to my locker. “F A G” was written across the top of one and “disgusting perverts” adorned the other.

My heart sank. I thought we were kind of past this, since things had been okay for a couple of weeks and even Brady was keeping his distance. Honestly, I thought it was more likely Cam would have the rougher week.

Before I could do or say anything, Noah barged through the mob and ripped them down.

“Ignore that shit,” he encouraged me. He, along with Jamie, looked completely incensed. Ashley, who was standing beside him, seemed sad. She rubbed my shoulder.

The last thing I want is to be an object of pity. That’s pathetic. I immediately thought of Cam’s response to Justin.

“Wait,” I said, taking the picture from Noah. I taped it back to my locker. “Anyone have a Sharpie?” I asked.

Mariah stepped up and opened her binder. “Here,” she said, fishing a thick red marker from her binder.

I scratched out the homophobic crap and defiantly wrote “OUT AND PROUD” beneath the slurs. Mariah and a few others clapped. Noah looked unsure. He obviously thought I should just take it down and move on.

I quickly gathered my books. I had a few minutes before the bell, but the last thing I wanted to do was hang around. It was awkward. My actions can speak for themselves. I was fine, but Noah and Jamie insisted on escorting me to class. Ashley disappeared, but I think her first period is on the other end of the building.

***

If I’m being completely honest, I was anxious and even a little jittery. My first hour had about 10 minutes left when Liam — as office aide — came into the classroom and gave the teacher a dreaded red summons pass. Those are almost always from security or an AP, usually if you’re in trouble or connected to some incident. I’m sure it is for me. The way Liam looked at me made it obvious. I can’t describe it, but it’s like his eyes were apologizing while his smile tried to reassure.

“Mr. Coleman, this is for you. You better take your things.” I’d already begun to put my stuff away.

There was a rumble amongst the students. I’m sure word of the pictures had spread, so I doubt anyone assumed I was in trouble. I grabbed my notebook and walked out.

“Hey,” Liam said sheepishly once we were in the hall. “You okay? I heard about this morning.”

“I’m good! Or, I thought I was,” I lied. “I’m not sure why I have to go to the office.”

“Mr. Tim just wants to make sure you’re okay. You know how he is,” Liam answered as we started walking. “He’s been on the warpath, figuring out who did it. I haven’t seen him this mad before.”

I smiled. I didn’t want a huge deal made out of anything, but it was nice to know he was looking out for me. “He is kind of protective.”

We rounded the corner by my now-barren locker.

“They’re gone,” Liam commented, before resuming our conversation. “In the office, they always talk about nipping stuff before it gets out of hand. Plus, he likes you, so I think he’s worried. When he asked me to deliver the summons, he suggested I walk you back.”

That was interesting. Was he trying to play matchmaker? He knows about Cam, plus that would be weird. Was he worried I might get jumped? I can’t imagine if he seriously thought that he wouldn’t get me himself. Then I remembered he recognized the note Liam left me, and saw we were becoming friends.

“I’m fine, really,” I exaggerated. “How was your screen-free weekend?” I was hoping to change the subject.

“Lame. I wanted to message you and Cam. I didn’t see your reply until this morning,” Liam answered, pausing. “When you guys didn’t answer on Saturday, I was afraid I did something wrong or offended you.”

“Dude, relax,” I answered, giving him a gentle pat on the back. “Our reception wasn’t always great and we were, uh, kind of occupied.” I was thinking about the mess with Craig and Bob, but that wasn’t how he interpreted it, which was probably for the best.

“I bet. Lucky! I wish I could hear ALL about it,” he said hopefully, before hesitating. “But I know it’s none of my business.”

I laughed. Honestly, I’d love nothing more than to tell him. Fuck! Cam and I are eager to SHOW him a thing or two.

As we were approaching Mr. Tim’s office. I put my arm on his shoulder. “When the time is right, I’d love to explain everything,” I said. I added a punch to ‘everything’, trying to sound seductive. I let my hand slide down his low back, gently brushing the top of what I realized was a surprisingly squishy butt cheek. Even though Liam does have more rear than either Cam or I, I expected it to be firmer. I know he’s an athlete, and he just seems built. I expected muscle, not softness, but I’m not complaining. It was actually kind of nice. I immediately shifted my hand higher and gave him a gentle, playful squeeze. I got more back than butt… at least, I think. It was very quick.

Either way, he got the message. He instantly blushed, but smiled. “I can’t wait, but I, uh, better get back to the office.” I could tell by the tremble in his voice that I had rattled him… in a good way.

***

Mr. Tim mostly wanted to make sure I wasn't upset. Apparently, Ashley bolted for his office to tell him what happened.

“I’m sorry someone was a jerk,” he explained, “but I had to take down those photos. They’re nice pictures, but are too much of a distraction and disruption to have in school.”

I nodded. “I get it. I never would have put them up to begin with, but when someone said those things, I felt like I had to make a statement so they saw I wasn’t afraid or ashamed.”

“I don’t blame you, and you didn’t do anything wrong. I love your attitude and confidence, Max. You’re conducting yourself with dignity,” Mr. Tim reassured. “I take it you and Cam made them public, where they could be seen by anyone?”

“Yeah. We’re done hiding.”

“Good for you both. I think in the long run, it will be positive, even if it causes a few bumps now. There’s nothing wrong with what you posted, but please be careful with social media. I’ve seen so many ugly things; I would hate for you to have to deal with homophobic nonsense or needless drama.”

“Of course, I understand. We’ll be careful,” I agreed.

“Excellent, that’s all I’m suggesting,” Mr. Tim replied. “By the way, I figured out who the aggressor was. I can’t tell you who of course, or their consequences, but they’re being dealt with.”

“Brady?” I asked, even though I knew I shouldn't.

“Nice try, but you know I can’t say,” Mr. Tim said sternly. “But no, it wasn’t him or any of his friends. Actually… uh, never mind,” he replied. “Just let me deal with it.” I wasn’t sure what he was about to say. My impression was it wasn’t anyone he initially suspected.

“Thanks for taking care of it and looking out for me,” I replied, smiling. I guess that was good news, and I really like talking with Mr. Tim, but also didn’t want to harp on things. I just want to get on with my day. “Was there anything else, or may I go back to class?”

“Yes. Just one more thing: I have to call your mother and tell her what happened. I’ll make sure she knows you’re fine and that it has been addressed with the other student and their family.”

I sighed. I really wished he wouldn’t. I know she will freak out, worried. But I get it. If he doesn’t tell parents about incidents like this, he’d probably get in trouble.

“I’m sorry, Max, I know it’s awkward and you just want to move on, but there are procedures I have to follow. I don’t have a choice, but I will try to downplay it, I promise,” he added, clearly reading my expression and body language. “In fact, if you want to be here when I call, and talk to her now so she isn’t worried, you’re welcome to. Or if you just want to go, I’ll sign your pass. Your choice.”

“No thank you,” I answered. “It’ll go faster if I’m not here. I’ll text her.”

“After school, you mean?” Tim said, grinning. “I’m just teasing. Go ahead and send her a quick message if you want, but mention you’re in class and can’t have a conversation.”

I fired off a short message that the school would be calling her, but I was safe and not in any trouble. Just then, the bell rang and passing time began, so I stood to leave.

“Oh, and Max?”

“Yeah?”

“I’m glad you and Liam are becoming better friends, but keep your hands to yourself at school or I’ll be having a different conversation with your mom. Got it?”

Oh fuck. He saw. He wasn’t being a dick, but how embarrassing. I must have turned three or four shades of red.

“Yes sir,” I squeaked. “That won’t happen again, I promise.”

He smiled. “That’s all I ask. Have a good day,” he said before offering his fist to bump.

With that, I hastily made an exit. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to look him in the eye again. How mortifying.

***

Mr. Beckham let us split slightly early for lunch. He does that sometimes when we’ve been really focused. It’s only like 30 seconds at most, but it’s nice to beat the rush and not have to wait in line. As we walked down the empty hallway, Jamie was gushing about his step-dad taking him and Seb to Dave & Busters over the long weekend and letting them play in the arcade for hours. I guess Wyatt was watching the Twins and didn’t want to miss the end, so he kept topping off their game cards.

I sensed Seb was mildly annoyed that he wouldn’t shut up about it. A couple times he began to speak, only to have Jamie drone on about winning 100 tickets or something. Jamie isn’t annoying, but can sometimes be over exuberant and not always read the room.

Thankfully, Seb and I were the first through the register and found our way to our usual table and had a moment to ourselves.

“I heard about the signs someone put up on your locker. I’m sorry, that’s such bullshit,” he declared. “Find out who it is and I’ll beat their ass… after I grow a little,” he added, giggling. That made me laugh. Seb would struggle to take on a feisty fourth grader. Thus, the joke. This kid does know how to make me feel better. We really do have a connection.

“Thanks,” I answered. “I needed to laugh. But really, it’s fine. Mr. Tim knows who it was and I guess they are in pretty big trouble.” I paused, hoping to change the subject. “So, was Dave and Buster’s as fun as Jamie made it sound?”

“Yeah, it was pretty cool. I’d never been there before. My ‘rents think it’s a waste. Jamie’s step-dad said he might take us again on Saturday, after I spend the night.”

Spending the night, eh? I wonder if Jamie will corner me for pointers.

***

“Soooo,” Jamie interrupted, his tray hitting the table with a thud.

Liam sat down next to him. “‘Soooo’ what?” He asked, thinking he missed something.

“Soooo,” Jamie continued, looking at me, “how was YOUR weekend? Did you actually catch some fish or were you and Cam between the sheets the entire time?” He made a circle with his thumb and forefinger and then started to push his other index finger in and out. I frowned at him and he bashfully put his hands back under the table. I looked away and didn’t answer his inquiry.

Jamie pressed on. “C’mon Coleman, three days in the woods. You had to have some fun? Cam has to be as horny as the rest of us,” he stated matter-of-factly. “So, did you give or receive more?”

“Jamie!” Liam admonished. “That’s rude.” He cracked a small smile. He asked the same thing earlier, after all. There’s just something different about how Jamie goes about it. I don’t want to dunk on him, and he really is a good friend who is fun to be around, but sometimes he needs to tone it down.

“Yeah. What makes you so interested in hearing about gay stuff, anyway?” Seb piped in. His tone was interesting. I could tell he was more teasing than serious.

Jamie blushed but was defiant. “Hey, a guy our age is getting his dick wet. That’s worth discussing! We talk about sex and masturbation and stuff all the time.” He has a point. We don’t shy away from talking about these kinds of things, unless girls or grownups are around or something.

“It’s okay,” I responded. I decided to have a little fun. “No, James, we were well-behaved. It was a small cabin and our dads were right in the other room. That would have been tacky. We spent all weekend on the lake. Fishing, swimming, and communing with nature.” I added air quotes around that last part. I was trying to hint that there was more to tell, in another setting.

Jamie snorted and rolled his eyes. “Yeah, right,” he commented. “‘Communing with nature’. Like you’re an effing hippie.” My euphemism went right over his head. He’s so literal.

I gave him a displeased look, as if I were actually serious. “Oh,” he replied, clearly disappointed. I winked at Liam, who grinned.

“Of course, there was skinny dipping… and a boathouse,” I added, “but, I can’t give details here. I did commune with my nature, if you catch my drift.”

Jamie’s eyes lit up, but Noah, along with Ashley and Mariah, joined us before I could elaborate. I said as much as I was going to in the middle of the lunch room, but in mixed company, we definitely weren’t going to talk about sex.

“Hey guys,” Ashley greeted everyone as she sat down. “Max, you okay?” She asked in a concerned tone.

I was tired of talking about it, and I still have to face Mom, which will suck. But, Ashley’s heart is in the right place, so I can’t be upset with her.

“It’s whatever; not a big deal,” I tried to downplay.

“Yes it fucking is, Max!” Noah fumed. “If we ever find out what piece of shit did that, Jamie and I will take care of them. I don’t care if they expel me.”

I didn’t mean to, but I sighed. “Well, I would, so please don’t. You’ve already gotten into huge trouble defending me once. I’m not going to let you fight another of my battles and take the heat,” I stated. “I just want to move on. Mr. Tim dealt with it.”

Ashley smiled. “I hope you aren’t bothered that I reported it to him, but we all thought it was important to tell an adult. It’s not snitching if it’s a safety issue, and we aren’t going to let people hassle you,” she said. Everyone at the table nodded.

“Yeah, we all have your back,” Jamie added. “Seb is fiercer than he looks. He’ll head butt them in the nuts.”

Everyone laughed, including Seb. “Damn right,” he said, grinning. “My parents have always said I’m hard-headed.”

I couldn’t help but feel a little loved. At least I have a solid support system. I know that isn’t the case for others in similar situations. It certainly wasn’t for Seb at Widmer.

“Yeah Max, we’re all here for you,” Mariah said as she stroked my arm. Oh jeez.

“Give it a rest. He isn’t interested,” Reese piped up. That led to another chorus of laughs.

***

At the end of lunch, Jamie, Seb, and I were headed back to class when Noah pulled me aside.

“Don’t be pissed, but I texted Craig earlier,” Noah confessed. He looked nervous. “I was irate and thought he should know, but I can tell you’re tired of talking about it and I’m not trying to stir up drama or anything. Sorry.”

It isn’t like I wouldn’t have told Craig myself, or that Mom or the Reeds wouldn't mention it to him.

“It’s okay, I’m not mad. I would have probably told him myself, anyway.”

“I figured, and I should have let you, but…”

“You talk to Craig when you’re upset and not sure what to do?” I asked. He nodded sheepishly. “I get it. I do the same thing.” I offered him my fist to show we’re good.

“Really, Max?” He objected as he pulled me into a quick bro hug.

***

The rest of the school day was relatively uneventful.

Mrs. Hickman pulled me aside as soon as I entered her room. “I understand you were the object of some unwelcome attention this morning. How are you doing?”

“Yeah, fine,” I answered. “But I bet you already knew that.” She and Mr. Tim converse throughout the day. I was feeling bold and decided to call her on it.

She grinned and winked. “Indeed. Just checking. I have to look out for my star pupils. Now take a seat before rumors begin to swirl.”

I still can’t believe so many people think she’s the meanest teacher ever. If they just gave her a chance, they’d see she isn’t so bad and does actually care. Of course, I think she enjoys her gruff reputation, and I’m guilty of making the same initial assumptions about her.

***

Once I made it to my bus, I immediately texted Cam and told him what happened. I thought about sneaking a message to him earlier, between classes, but knew it would drive him crazy not being able to ask questions. He’d be seething all day for nothing.

He was incensed, but I assured him everything was taken care of, and that Noah and my other friends were there for me.

He said nobody said a thing to him all day about his posts. Funny… I was sure it would be Cam given shit, not me. Ironic.

***

Thankfully, Mom wasn’t too worked up. She did, however, get home much earlier than normal. She gave some excuse to explain why, but it was transparent and I know she was worried and wanted to check on me.

“So, you know Mr. Tim called. He said you’re handling the incident well. Are you?” she asked timidly.

“Yes, Mother,” I said exasperatedly. I know I shouldn’t be short with her, but I’m sick of saying the same damn thing all day. I tried to course correct. “It’s no big deal. I knew something like that would happen eventually. My friends have my back, including some I just made. They were all super supportive. So were Mr. Tim and Mrs. Hickman.”

“Well, that’s good to hear. When you came out, worrying about bullying was what kept me up at night,” she said, shuddering. “You just hear so many horror stories.”

“Really Mom, I’m okay. Honest.” I gave her a big hug. “I know you worry, but it’s all good.” She hugged me back tightly.

She offered to take me to eat either before or after practice, even offering some of my favorite restaurants.

“Not necessary. I appreciate that you’re trying to make me feel better and all, but I need to get back to eating better. Cam and I overdid the junk food at the lake.”

“Okay,” she relented, sounding disappointed. I think she just wants to spend time with me. I was gone the entire long weekend, and then the drama at school immediately followed. “I’m so proud of you, baby. You’re handling everything with such grace for your age.”

“Thanks,” I said, smiling. “On second thought, maybe if I get a bowl or salad, Chipotle wouldn’t be too bad.” I considered asking if Cam could join, but thought better of it. We need some time just the two of us.

***

On the way to practice, I caught her up on Noah’s successful dinner with Ashley’s parents, which I forgot to relay after getting home last night. She also inquired about my new friends, so I told her about Liam and Seb. I thought I’d mentioned Seb before, but Mom didn’t seem to recall. She’s met all of my other friends, or at least heard me talk about them.

I really built up Seb and Liam. I told her how smart Seb is and that we seem to understand each other, sometimes without even saying a word. I told her Liam was maybe the nicest boy in school and kind to everyone. “I don’t think I’ve ever even heard him cuss. Cam says his parents are probably strict, because they’re Mormon.”

“Mormon?” she asked. “Hmmm.”

“What?”

“Oh it’s just, most are very nice, but some can be old fashioned and not open to things like…”

“Gay people?”

“Well, yeah. I know it’s silly, but his parents might not be keen on their son having a gay friend,” she explained, before hemming and hawing. “Does Liam, um, know?”

“That I’m gay?” I snorted. “Mom, EVERYONE knows.”

“Well, tread lightly when you meet his parents, please.”

“I will.” If she only knew that Liam is as gay as I am, and that’s why he reached out. Of course, telling her that or about Seb’s experience at Widmer would probably give her pause. I don’t want to remind her of all the crap with my pervert father, highlight harassment potential, or make her wonder why I’m suddenly making new friends with other boys right after coming out.

It’s not like I’m trying to have so many gay friends. Liam sought me out and Seb totally fell into my lap. Well, not literally quite yet, but that might happen at some point. And Jamie… well, we’ve been friends for a long time. Sometimes, I swear my life feels like a plot to a bad melodrama.

***

With everything going on this week, I totally spaced that Liam and I now have gym together. He showed up in Coach Bremerton’s class last Friday, just before Craig picked me up to go to the lake. I snapped a picture of Liam to show Cam as he did push-ups, but man, that seems like an eternity ago.

So, when Liam entered the changing room and started opening a locker three down from mine, it took me a moment to process why he was there. I had just peeled off my shirt and stuffed it inside.

“Hey,” he greeted me, grinning. “I didn’t know your locker was in this row, too.” Had I dressed out last week, I’d have known that already. There are only two other guys this period in our bank, so it’s fairly isolated. Dustin is on my left. He’s a chunky Hispanic boy who is very friendly. Charlie, who is very small for an eighth grader, is on his right. He has a chip on his shoulder but doesn’t engage much with me.

I pulled down my regular shorts and put on my gym uniform. I had just finished tying my shoes when I glanced over and realized Liam hadn’t even begun to change. He seemed in a daze. Charlie and Dustin had already left.

“You better hurry. Coach B makes you run laps if you’re late, or might even issue a detention.” He still had time, but not if he didn’t get a move on.

“Oh duh, yeah,” he answered, snapping out of it. I hoped nobody else realized he’d been staring at me. I mean, I get it. He’s just as curious about me as I am him, and I am wearing what Cam declared as my sexiest CK underwear.

“I’ll wait if you want,” I offered.

He nodded and quickly started changing. Now it was my turn to ogle. I tried not to be obvious, but I snuck several glances. His upper body is stocky, soft but not exactly fat. He’s got larger nipples than Cam or I. His pits look smooth at a distance but up close it appears he might have the start of a few hairs.

I don’t know if he was trying to be shy, but he put on the gym T before he changed shorts. It meant I only got a good glimpse of his Under Armour boxer briefs (red, by the way) when he reached up to stuff his shorts in the locker. Man though, they were sexy as fuck. The taut material amplified his round booty, and the bulge in front… damn. I thought about the picture he’d sent us last weekend of his boner stretching his underwear. He wasn’t hard now, but it was so much hotter in person. Cam will be jealous.

I had to look away and think of something else. Otherwise, I would start tenting.

***

I texted Cam after school and told him about my voyeurism in the locker room and how Liam’s bulge was even more impressive in person, particularly in tight underwear.

“We need to figure out a plan to hang out with him SOON,” Cam replied.

***

Craig took me to practice Thursday. He waited until we were on the way home to ask about the bullshit from Tuesday. I guess he was waiting to see if I would bring it up. Honestly, after two days, I’ve largely put it out of my mind.

As usual, he read me well and let it drop when he realized I was over it. He has this intuition and way of asking about things that is never annoying. Some adults just don’t know how to bring up sensitive topics, or drone on way too long about them. Not Craig. The only other grownup I’ve known like that is Mr. Tim.

***

At practice, Cam and I schemed. “We should go see a movie Saturday night, after practice,” he suggested. We have an afternoon workout until 3:00.

“Sounds good. I doubt Mom will care, and the extended cut of the new Spider-Man is out.” I assumed that was the movie he planned to see. “Should we invite anyone else, like Noah and Ashley? We can double date.”

“How about Liam?” Cam suggested. “I mean Noah and Ashley can come too, but…”

I could tell by his wry smile he had more on his mind than just a movie. “And I suppose he should come hang out with us at your place for a while first?”

“Maybe he can even spend the night,” Cam replied, raising his eyebrows.

“Cameron Rice! Are you trying to make me jealous?” I teased.

He scoffed. “You’re just as interested as I am to… spend time with him.”

“True,” I agreed. “Hey! Can we see Good Boys? I hear it’s really funny, and the main character is very cute.”

“I’d love to, but his parents might object. It is rated R and I hear some of the jokes are crude. Mormons are touchy about that stuff. At least, that’s what Dad says.”

“We can try. If he can’t, we can stick with the Spidey flick,” I agreed. I looked up movies. “Both the new Spider-Man and the ‘It’ sequel have plenty of showtimes, although I’m not sure I’m up for a creepy clown movie.”

“You know I’ll hold you tight if you get scared, right?” Cam asked. His tone was interesting. It was a mix of sarcasm and eagerness. “Remember our first movie?”

Just thinking about that night, watching Pet Sematary, Cam taking my hand for the first time… how we went home, texted, and traded pics until the middle of the night. I couldn’t help but smile.

“Still,” I replied. “That’s probably a total no-go for Liam, if his parents are rigid about what he’s allowed to watch.”

***

We Snapped with Liam after getting home and showering. Cam invited him to go see the movie and a sleepover. He said he would ask his parents the next morning because they were already in bed. He seemed beyond excited.

***

He practically knocked me over at my locker the next morning.

“They said okay! They just want to meet Cam’s dad or whatever adult is taking us,” he jabbered excitedly. “I can’t spend the night, though. We have church early Sunday morning. I’m actually giving a talk in our sacrament meeting this week.”

“You have to give a public speech at church? That sounds awful,” I opined.

“It isn’t too bad. They’re usually focused on our testimony or some Christ-like value, and they don’t have to be very long. My parents say it ‘cultivates responsibility’ and prepares us for missionary work and success in life, when you aren't nervous speaking in front of a crowd,” he explained. “Anyway, what are we going to see? I don’t really care, but my parents won’t let me see anything above PG-13,” he added, clearly self-conscious.

I patted his arm. “Nothing to be embarrassed about. Parents are like that sometimes, and we assumed yours would be strict, so while we wish we could see Good Boys, we’re thinking of doing the extended cut of Spider-Man,” I explained. “We don’t want you to get in trouble or make a bad impression.”

Liam smiled. “Thanks. I know it might seem corny, but I really do try to be obedient and not defy them.”

“It’s cool. Cam is very big on being respectful to adults, and so am I, so we get it,” I reassured. I raised my eyebrows and leaned in to whisper. “Besides, if we’re going to be a corruptive influence, we won’t waste it on a movie you aren’t allowed to see.”

He laughed. “I sure hope not.”

I was eager to work in a little more innuendo, but the warning bell rang, prompting us to get to class.

I really do enjoy talking with him. As intuitive as things are with Seb, it just flows so effortlessly with Liam. I have this really good feeling about my new friends. After being miserably sore and itchy from Chad on the first day of school, being humiliated in class, and then the whole S.N.O debacle and suspension, I really worried this might be a miserable school year. Honestly, now it’s shaping up to be the best ever.

***

On Friday, Liam beat me to PE and was already changed out when I arrived. Is it bad I was disappointed I didn’t get to watch him? I had to wait another 40 minutes until we were done with gym to check out his undies.

He must be a big Under Armour fan, because that’s what he was wearing again, but in black. He looked super athletic in them, despite his general squish, but I think I preferred the red pair. You could make out more of his junk. Dustin was absent today and Charlie was gross and left without dressing back out, so we were basically alone in the back of the locker room.

He must have noticed me watching, because he called me on it.

“Enjoying yourself?” He asked in a hushed tone.

I blushed. “Can you blame me?” I mumbled, after scooting down the bench to get closer.

He shook his head. “Well, I have checked you out before, but you’re the hottest guy in school, so...” he whispered back, his head swiveling to confirm nobody was within earshot.

That, of course, induced an eye roll.

“I’m just saying, I have a reason to watch you, and you have Cam, not sure why you’d be interested in me.”

He’s blind to his own appeal. Although I have to admit, I was oblivious to it at first, too. I mean, he’s always been cute in that slightly above-average kind of way, but I just didn’t pay much attention since we never interacted much.

“You’re plenty interesting,” I responded, lightly brushing his arm. “I can’t wait to see more,” I added as I shifted my gaze to his groin.

He shuddered, but in the best possible way. I noticed his bulge began to fill slightly.

“Maybe tomorrow,” he answered, anxiously pulling his shorts up over his underwear, which seemed to be stretching more and more by the second.

“I sure hope so,” I replied.

“Me too,” he replied nervously, looking away.

***

I texted Cam after school and gave him an update on Liam. Cam is into hot guys in sexy underwear as much as I am. It reminded me of how, when we first started dating, we used to send pics of our “underwear of the day.” I was always so impressed with Cam’s designer labels and kind of ashamed of my generic stash, until Craig took me shopping, anyway.

“We need to get him to come over to hang and shower with us tomorrow,” Cam suggested. “We DID invite him last weekend and he seemed open to it, remember?”

“Hey, what if we just pick him up on the way home from practice? We’ll have to shower anyway, before the movie. Maybe before a soak in the hot tub? That way it won’t seem out of place, or planned.” Part of me feels guilty. It feels like we’re scheming to get his pants off. But, in our defense, Liam definitely seems eager and is new to this, so he might need us to initiate.

“Even though it is, sorta?” after he replied, adding a laughing emoji.

“Maybe. Just a little,” I replied.

***

The timing worked out perfectly. Liam’s game was at noon and he would have just enough time to get home, shower, and maybe grab a bite to eat before we would arrive. I texted him and told him we might even have time to jump in the hot tub at Cam’s. I wanted to plant the seed to see how he might react. He responded with a big smiley emoji. I guess he likes the idea.

Mom drove Cam and I to practice and then was meeting her office friends for a late lunch and some shopping. Bob was our ride home, which was perfect because it would allow him to meet Liam’s parents.

I was surprisingly nervous as we all walked towards Liam’s front door. I guess knowing we really needed to make a good impression, just in case they’re homophobic, made me uneasy.

I didn’t need to be. Bob and Cam took the lead and were their usual charming selves. I could tell Liam’s dad was impressed by Bob’s career and his mom adored Cam’s manners. I mostly just stood by and smiled, but did manage to work in a few polite comments and used my sirs and ma’ams, pleases and thank yous. His parents were really nice.

Liam has two little brothers, who are seven and nine. When they heard we were gymnasts, they started doing somersaults. I showed them a few little things to improve their technique. They were disappointed when we had to leave, especially when they found out we were seeing Spider-Man. They mentioned they weren’t allowed to see PG-13 movies until they turn 13, and this was one of the first Liam has seen, which caused him to blush.

We didn’t meet Liam's high school brother, Ezra, or his oldest sibling, Emma who I guess is away on a mission trip or something. I’m pretty sure we made a solid impression. Liam’s mom even commented how pleased she is that Liam is branching out from his football and church friends.

Bob pulled into the driveway and dropped us off. We originally planned to stop somewhere to eat on the way, but spent more time greeting Liam’s family than anyone expected.

“I’ll grab some food while you guys get ready. We only have an hour or so before we need to head to the movie, and I know you’re starving. Liam, do you have any requests or restrictions?”

“Oh, no sir. I had a PB and J after my game, so I don’t need anything, and my parents only gave me enough cash for my ticket,” he answered with a hint of embarrassment.

“Son, that’s very polite, but I’m not going to feed them and not you, so I’m going to get you something, I just want to make sure you don't have any allergies or anything. I know how hungry a growing boy is after a game,” Bob explained, smiling. “Plus, I’ve already bought the tickets. It’s our treat, so save your money.”

“Liam, Mr. Rice doesn’t take no for an answer. I learned that months ago. So, you might as well not protest,” I quipped. Bob and Cam both grinned.

Liam beamed. I wonder if going to a movie and eating out is a luxury for him. His house was fine, but he does have a big family and I don’t think his Mom works outside the home.

“You don’t have to do that, but thank you so much, Mr. Rice,” he gushed. “No, I don’t have any food allergies. I’m sure whatever you decide will be fine.”

I swear, it’s like Cam and Liam had the same manners lessons.

Cam led us into the kitchen. “Nice house,” Liam commented, glancing around. Liam’s house wasn’t exactly shabby, but Cam’s is a couple of notches above any of my other friends.

“Wait until you see the basement,” I commented. “It’s the best part.” I winked at Cam and led the way.

“Wow! This is awesome,” Liam declared as he scanned the theater area and pool table.

Cam directed us into the bathroom and showed him the sauna and hot tub through the window. “You’ll have to come back when it’s cold and these actually feel good,” Cam offered.

“Heck yeah!” Liam answered.

It was the moment of truth.

“We need to shower,” Cam commented, glancing at me. “You can watch TV or play pool or whatever,” he continued.

“Or,” I interjected. “You’re welcome to join us, if you want. We don’t have time for hot tubbing, but you can commune with nature with us in the shower,” I added.

My joke elicited a laugh. “No, that’s okay,” Liam quickly answered, nervously. “I just took one at home.”

“We figured,” Cam said. “But we thought you might like to, anyway. We won’t tell anyone. And we really are just going to shower.”

“I’m good,” he answered. I could tell he was anxious. His brow was starting to sweat. “I’ll just watch some TV.” I was surprised. Liam seemed very eager to explore last Friday when Cam and I sent pictures, and he’d even made some innuendos the last few days at school. I guess when it comes time to really drop his drawers, he just wasn’t quite ready.

“That’s cool,” Cam replied. “If you change your mind, we have plenty of towels and stuff. Up to you, no pressure.”

***

“Damn,” I commented once he walked away. “I really thought he’d do it. I really want to see his dick.”

“Me too,” Cam answered. “Maybe if we had more guys over and he didn’t feel like a third wheel, he’d be less nervous. Or he’ll go home, realize he missed the chance to check us out, and beg to come back next weekend.”

I laughed. “C’mon, let’s get cleaned up.”

We didn’t bother closing the door. We stripped and started the showers. We kissed briefly as we waited for the water to warm.

We had just started to lather when there was a surprise knock on the door, and Liam came in. “Maybe I will rinse off. I got kind of sweaty in the car.” Cam and I looked at each other and smiled. It’s like he spent the last three minutes coming up with a good excuse to justify joining us.

We turned away so he could take off his clothes without us staring. “You can have my shower head,” I announced. “I’ll share with Cam.”

Thirty seconds later, Liam stepped under the water, his hands covering his best parts. Still shy, I guess. He let the spray wash over him, his eyes closed.

“You’re really built,” Cam commented.

He opened his eyes. “Thanks, but you guys are ripped. And so smooth,” he added, pointing at our dicks. We were facing him, hiding nothing. We wanted him to check us out and enjoy the freedom of looking at another boy.

“We shave down there,” I explained. “Keeps things neat and, you know, less chance of hair in your mouth when…” I trailed off. I didn’t want to be too forward and make him uncomfortable.

“That’s… hot,” he stammered.

“How about you?” Cam asked.

“I don’t. Never thought about it.”

“Well, it makes our junk look bigger. You probably don’t need help in that department,” Cam suggested.

Fuck it. Time to be forward. I think he wants this as much as we do. “Can we see?” I asked.

“I kinda got an erection,” he answered sheepishly.

“So? Nothing wrong with that. We both get them all the time. You know they have a mind of their own at our age,” Cam reassured him.

“Yeah. Heck, if it’s as nice as I think it is, we might have boners in a minute, too.”

“Okay, but don’t laugh,” he replied before pulling his hands away, revealing an absolutely gorgeous, cut cock. It was half hard, at least five inches, and thick. It had a slight curve. His bush was narrow, but full for its coverage area. If he shaved, he’d look monstrous.

“Wow!” Cam commented. “That’s NOT something you should be hiding, right Max?”

“No, it’s not!” I concurred. “Dude, that’s an awesome dick. And we’re gay, so we would know,” I added, giggling.

Liam blushed. “Thanks. I don’t think anyone outside my family has seen it. My little brothers think it’s huge if they see me getting out of the shower, but they’re still so small they don’t know. You guys are the first boys my age I’ve seen naked before.”

“How often do you play with it?” I asked.

“You mean jerk off?” he asked. “Not…that much. I try not to. It’s frowned upon.”

“Damn,” Cam commented. “If I had that, I’d have to at least once a day.”

Liam laughed nervously.

“We should all have a quick wank,” I suggested. Cam and I really did just intend to shower, but now we’re all hard. “Before Cam’s dad gets home.”

“Here?” Liam asked shyly.

“Why not?” Cam replied as he began to stroke his hardening tool. “It’s always interesting to see how other people do it.”

My cock was already reaching half-mast. “I like to use some soap in the shower,” I commented as I began gently tugging on mine.

“Me too,” he commented, copying my actions. I’m not sure if he really did use soap or if he was just going along, but his cock clearly liked the sensation. It was soon standing almost straight up, having added another inch, maybe even two. “Oh jeez,” he exclaimed.

I felt Cam push my hand away. He took over jacking me. I reached over and began playing with his familiar member.

It took Liam a few seconds to realize what we were doing. “Crap, that’s hot,” he exclaimed, before covering his mouth. I think it was the first time I’ve ever heard him cuss, or at least his version of it. His eyes seemed to about pop out of his head.

“Wanna feel ours?” Cam asked.

He didn’t respond. He didn’t say no, but he also didn’t say yes. Cam gently grabbed his right hand, the one he’d been jerking himself with, and guided it to just above his own cock, stopping. “It’s up to you of course, but I bet you’d like it.”

I pulled my hand away. Instinct, or maybe lust, took over and Liam gripped Cam and started shifting his hand up and down. Liam’s own dick was throbbing, twitching.

“It’s so hard… and soft and hot,” Liam muttered.

“That’s it. That feels good,” Cam commented.

“And skinnier than I expected,” Liam added, smirking.

“Yeah,” I replied. “And I bet this feels like a firehose,” I added as I reached for him, stopping just short. “Can I?”

He grunted an affirmation, so I wrapped my fingers around his fat member. I understood why Cam felt skinny to him. It was even girthier than I realized. Even more so than Noah’s, and almost like Craig’s, but a little shorter.

I ran my fingers over his glans. Pre-cum was oozing out, so I spread it around, causing him to moan.

Cam gripped me and began pounding away. We were all enjoying a nice three-way circle jerk. It was fucking awesome. Liam threw his head back and closed his eyes. “Oh sh…” he said, practically in a whisper.

“Switch,” Cam called out. “I want to play with Liam.”

Cam’s hand pushed mine away. I did the same, knocking Liam off Cam’s dick. Liam seemed confused. I took his left hand and guided it to my dick. I was getting close when Cam was rubbing me. He knows just the right touch.

Liam’s hand wasn’t as skilled, but I don’t mind. I’m mostly enjoying the scene, as Liam was enjoying his first sexual experience. Cam was jacking him masterfully. Liam’s hips began to thrust and suddenly he yelled out as his knees buckled. Two large blasts of jizz shot into the air. Part of the warm milk landed one my foot. I reached out to steady him as Cam worked the last of his juice from his pulsing cook.

“That was freaking hot man,” Cam said. “You went off like a firework!”

“Yeah, it’s never done that before.”

“It’s because you were so horny,” I explained. “Cam’s really good at that, isn’t he?”

Liam seemed concerned about his seed streaked across the tile floor. He started pushing it towards the drain with his foot. “Don’t worry, that isn’t the first load of cum to go down that drain,” Cam commented.

“Or the last,” I exclaimed as I began to shoot.

Liam’s eyes got wide and his mouth agape. “I gotta pee,” Liam interjected before grabbing a towel, his clothes, and heading into the bathroom and closing the door.

“Well, that was hot as fuck,” Cam said. “We could have a lot more fun with him!”

“Definitely. Do you want me to finish you off?” I asked.

“Let’s save it for later. It’ll be sexy as fuck being horny all night thinking about what I’m going to do to you before bed.”

“Good thinking,” I answered as I pulled him into a passionate kiss.

***

We had just turned off our showers when Liam emerged from the bathroom and quickly excused himself.

Cam and I dried, dressed, and exited just as we heard Bob upstairs. “Pizza’s here,” he called.

Liam charged up the stairs ahead of us. We sat at the table. Liam, for not being hungry, devoured three slices and a bread stick. Good thing Bob bought plenty.

“Excited for the movie, boys?” He asked.

Liam nodded, but looked away. He was suddenly very quiet. Cam kneed me under the table and gave me a look of concern and a shrug.

Liam did seem off. Maybe he was in shock. He is religious, it was not only his first time doing anything sexual, but also gay, and I know sometimes cumming can induce guilt. Especially if you’re taught it’s to be avoided. I felt bad for him.

***

He was uncharacteristically quiet all night. Ashley and Noah were waiting for us at the theater and he barely said a word to them, even though Ashley was her normal, bubbly self and tried to engage him.

I began to wonder if we’d done the wrong thing by introducing him to our ‘sinful’ ways. Maybe he wasn’t ready yet.

He did seem to enjoy the movie. I guess it got his mind off what happened in the shower. He laughed at the funny parts and was clearly into some of the more intense action scenes. Which is more than I can say for Ashley and Noah, who spent much of the movie making out. It’s a good thing Bob sat several rows in front of us.

Unfortunately, on the ride home, Liam crawled back into his cocoon.

Cam got out of the car at Liam’s house and talked to him for a few seconds. I’m not sure what he said, but Liam’s face brightened some before he darted inside.

“Everything okay, gentlemen?” Bob asked. “Your friend seems to have gotten shy all of a sudden. He was so friendly before dinner.”

“It’s fine, daddy. I think he just ate too much pizza. He mentioned he doesn’t eat it often. His stomach was making weird sounds during the movie.” I knew that wasn’t it, but would have to wait until we were alone to discuss.
