"Hey, anything I can do for my boys," said George, who then hugged Cam and I. It was the Friday before the start of term and we were, unexpectedly, sitting in the lobby of the county courthouse. Shortly after we'd learned about Aiden's HIV, we decided to adopt him. I wanted this done as soon as possible so we had asked Cam's father, George, to talk to his old golfing buddy, Judge Winters. The judge's clerk called, out of the blue, yesterday and asked if we could appear in court today. We brought the whole family with us. My parents were here, Cam's parents had cut their vacation short and flown in the night before and of course our boys were present. I had them wear their school uniforms, they looked smart and I wanted the judge to see that we were a suitable family for Aiden. I know I shouldn't be nervous but until this adoption is complete, Aiden is technically a ward of the state and I won't be happy until he's ours. The judge interviewed Cam and I, and Aiden is in the judge's chambers, right now, while we're chatting with our parents, our lawyer, Ted Stevens and of course, our social worker, Molly Nichols. The boys are sitting quietly, Jack listening to his ipod, Ethan with his nose in a book and Nicky, fidgeting with his tie. After half an hour, Aiden appeared and we walked over to grill him about his meeting with the judge. "How did it go?" said Cam. "Ok I think," said Aiden, "It was hard to tell." "What kind of questions did he ask you?" said Ted. "I'm sure it will be fine," said my mom. Before Aiden could answer any of our questions, the clerk of the court appeared, to announce that the judge would see us in the courtroom down the hall. We sat with Aiden and our lawyer, Ted, at a table before the judge's bench, the grandparents and the boys sat in the row behind us. We rose when the judge entered, then sat and waited patiently while he looked through a file. I was holding my breath and didn't breathe until the judge spoke. "We're meeting today to address the petition brought by Dr. Brenden Clark and Dr. Cameron Tucker, who are seeking to legally adopt Master Aiden Thomas Kerry, a minor child in their custody under the supervision of the Connecticut Department of Children and Families. After speaking with Dr. Clark and Dr. Tucker, and with young Master Aiden, I am prepared to make my ruling," said Judge Winters. "In speaking with Aiden, it is clear to me that he both loves and respects Doctor's Clark and Tucker and that he wishes this adoption to become legal and binding. I have also read a report, filed by Mrs. Nichols of the Department of Children and Families, which states that Doctor's Clark and Tucker have provided a warm and loving environment for Aiden, nurtured him and provided him with a stable home, while meeting his unique medical needs." "Further, I have spoken with Doctor's Clark and Tucker, who have explained in no uncertain terms, their desire, and the desire of their sons, to welcome this boy into their family. They have expressed their love and deep affection for Aiden and I find them to be men of high morals and good character. Gentlemen would you please rise?" asked the Judge. Cam and I stood, Aiden stood between us and out of the corner of my eye, I caught Jack, Ethan and Nicky standing behind us. "On behalf of the state of Connecticut I, Judge Gregory T. Winters, herby decree that Master Aiden Thomas Kerry, shall henceforth be recognized as the lawful son of Dr. Cameron Tucker and Dr. Brenden Clark and that adoption papers and a new birth certificate shall be issued reflecting said status and the legal change of his name to Aiden Tucker Clark. Court is dismissed" said the judge, with a bang of his gavel. Cam and I hugged Aiden between us, our family clapped and the boys cheered. Even Judge Winters, with his stern visage, smiled warmly. When Aiden pulled away, he had tears in his eyes. "I'm so happy, you have no idea how happy you've made me," he sniffled. "We love you Aiden, you have no idea how happy you've made us by agreeing to be our son," I replied, wiping a tear from my eye. Aiden smiled, hugged us each again and then hugged all of our family, who welcomed him with open arms, though I think he lingered on Ethan. We left the courtroom and piled into the car, then drove over to the country club, where my dad treated us all to lunch; he and George then took turns showing off their new grandson to their golfing buddies. I haven't been this proud since the day we adopted Nicky and Ethan, it must be what the parents of newborns feel like. With this milestone out of the way, we were ready to start our new school term on Monday. The weekend passed in a blur and I was still nervous when I took to the pulpit to deliver my welcoming address. The welcoming ceremony was held in the academy Chapel, which was full of students, faculty and some of the parents. Jack, Ethan and Aiden sat with their classmates, Cam and Nicky sat in the front row. Nicky smiled at me and gave me a thumbs up for good luck. "Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my privilege to welcome you to the one hundred and thirty fourth opening of the fall term of Bartlett Academy," I began, "Veritas, Sapientia, Scientia. Honor, Wisdom, Knowledge. For 134 years, our alumni have embodied Honor, Wisdom and Knowledge. You see it in the halls, you can feel it in the classrooms and on the playing fields, it is a legacy that has given this country leaders in every field of study, produced two presidents, governors, judges, doctors and the leading lights of business, and the arts. Today I issue a challenge to you, to live up to their example." I went on to talk about the history of the academy and some of those leading lights that I mentioned but to be honest, I can't tell you what else I said, I discarded my prepared remarks after the first paragraph and winged it. The boys told me later that I'd done a great job but what could I expect from my kids? Still, I thought the round of applause I received when I'd finished was heartfelt. With that out of the way, the students went off to their first classes, for Jack it was English and for Ethan and Aiden, it was the Latin class that Aiden wanted and had talked Ethan into taking. After classes, Jack had his first football practice and the twins went running with the cross country team. It had been a busy first day and when they came home, Ethan and Aiden headed straight for the shower, they did everything else together, they figured they might as well wash that way too. When Jack got home, he had the same instinct as the twins but found the bathroom he shared with Nicky occupied. Evidently Nicky had a run in with a mud puddle while playing with his friends after school. Jack would have joined him but for some reason the door was locked, instead, he stripped down, wrapped a towel around his waist and went into the twin's bathroom. When he walked in the door, Aiden covered himself as he wasn't used to anyone but Ethan seeing him naked. Ethan looked at Jack, grinned wickedly, then pulled the shower curtain open. "You guys don't mind do you?" asked Jack. "N-no," Aiden stuttered. Ethan didn't offer a verbal reply, he reached out and pulled Jack's towel off. Jack stepped in and Ethan quickly set about washing him, Aiden stood off in the corner, shyly watching. "You don't mind if Aiden helps, do you Jackie?" asked Ethan. "Course not, it's safe, right?" said Jack. Ethan smiled again and then took Aiden's hand. Aiden was still nervous as Ethan placed his hand against Jack's chest. Aiden felt Jack's pec's, enjoying the firm, smooth muscles, than Ethan put his hands on Aiden's shoulders and gently pushed him down to his knees in front of their cousin. "No wounds or sore's, right?" asked Ethan. "On my dick? No," laughed Jack. "Well then what are you waiting for?" asked Ethan, gesturing between Jack's cock and the boy on his knees. "I'm not just going to put it in his mouth because you put him on his knees, Aiden do you even want to?" asked Jack. "I, I, I, uh, yeah, I do," stuttered Aiden, still nervous. Jack inched forward and the head of his big 8 inch cock made contact with Aiden's lips. This was only the second cock Aiden had ever sucked that hadn't been forced on him; he savored the size of the thing and enjoyed the flavor of the older boy. Ethan leaned over and kissed Aiden on the cheek, before whispering in his ear. "I'm sorry I didn't think to ask you first, I just thought you might enjoy doing more then watch," said Ethan. "Mmm, mmmm, mmm," Aiden mumbled, engrossed in the task he was performing. Jack was equally engrossed, his eyes were closed, his head was thrown back, he'd had a long day and practice had been hard, this was exactly what he needed to relax. Jack hadn't noticed that Ethan had slipped around him and was now standing behind him, until he felt hands on his hips and a cock at his hole. When he felt the sensation, he turned and looked at Ethan who had an eager expression on his face, then he bent forward a little, giving Ethan an opening to exploit. Ethan happily popped the head of his cock into Jacks ass and began to fuck him slowly, pushing Jack's dick in and out of Aiden's mouth, with every thrust of his hips. The combination of the steamy shower and the thrill of the threesome quickly sent the boys over the edge, Ethan came inside of Jack and Jack shot his load into Aiden's mouth. They finished cleaning up then Jack noticed that Aiden was still hard. "You want us to take care of that for you?" asked Jack. "Thanks, but no, it would be better if I took care of it myself, you know safety first," said Aiden. "Wow, for a moment I almost forgot," said Jack, sympathetically. "Well, thanks," said Jack, as he smiled then gave Aiden a gentle kiss on the cheek, in appreciation. Aiden blushed and when Jack and Ethan left, he quickly finished himself off, than sprayed the shower with a bleach based cleaning fluid, just in case. He was extremely cautious about his condition; the last thing he would ever want would be for one of his brothers or friends to catch it because of a lazy mistake. That night, at dinner, the boys talked excitedly about their day. Jack really enjoyed his classes and had already made some friends, who he planned to study with after he ate. Ethan and Aiden had also enjoyed their classes and talked about the trail they had run with the cross country team at practice. Nicky, who had been worried that the dining hall food would be like the cafeteria food at his school, was so engrossed in his roast turkey that he didn't even notice the daughters of the French teacher making eyes at him from their table. When he did finally take notice, he winked and smiled, making the girls blush. That boy is charm personified. Our first week of the term was a great success and everyone settled into their routines fairly quickly. We didn't have any problems until that weekend. Like the other students, our boys were excited to explore Wallingford in their free time. Cam and I had to take Nicky to Soccer, so we allowed Jack, Ethan and Aiden to walk to the shopping area with the rest of the school. Jack took off with his friends and the twins explored the book shops. All was going well until Ethan went to use the restroom at a Starbucks, leaving Aiden with his sketchpad on the patio. Aiden is the kind of artist that will draw just about anything. As he sat on the patio, waiting for Ethan, he started to draw what he saw right in front of him. The subject of the drawing was the courthouse building across the street, but there was a girl in the way and her jealous boyfriend got the wrong idea when he walked out of the coffee shop and caught a glimpse. "Hey dude, what the fuck do you think you're doing?" he asked. "Excuse me?" asked Aiden. "That's my girlfriend, why are you drawing pictures of my girl?" he asked, growing angrier. "I, I wasn't," stuttered Aiden. "Now you're calling me a liar, I saw it," he said, grabbing the sketchpad. "Hey gimme that," Aiden shouted. Aiden was scared, he'd never been confronted like this by another kid before and he didn't understand what he'd done wrong, not to mention, this kid was huge. "Matt, leave him alone," said the girl, "he didn't do anything wrong." "Bullshit, I don't like spoiled little prep school boys scamming on my girlfriend," said Matt, who grabbed Aiden by his collar and hauled him over to the alley. "Oh, is that what you're mad about, because I go to Bartlett?" asked Aiden, "How can you even tell?" Matt shoved Aiden up against the wall and held him there, his girlfriend, Chrissy, was grabbing his other arm, trying to keep him from hitting Aiden. "Matt, stop being such a jerk," shouted Chrissy. Ethan came out of the bathroom and saw Aiden through the window; he immediately rushed to his aide. Ethan ran into the alley and pushed himself between the two boys, breaking Matt's hold on Aiden's collar. "Leave him alone," Ethan ordered. "And what the fuck are you gonna do about it, twerp?" Matt taunted. "So help me God, if you touch him, I'll kill you," said Ethan, fiercely. He was extremely protective of his brother, best friend and lover. "That's it, I'm kicking both of your asses," said Matt, drawing back his fist. "Matt no!" shouted Chrissy. But it was too late. Ethan had been taking karate lessons since he was 6 years old, when he and Aiden were threatened, instinct took over. The lithe boy's reflexes were lightening quick; he dropped Matt to his knees with a punch to the stomach, then buried his fist in Matt's face, busting his lip. Matt lie on the ground, to stunned to even notice the pain, with blood dripping from his lip. Chrissy knelt down beside him and surprised everyone by slapping him. "That's what you get for being such an asshole," she exclaimed. "Come on Aiden, let's go home," said Ethan. He grabbed his brother by the arm and dragged him out of the alley, they quickly found Jack and he brought them home. We'd been back from Nicky's soccer game for an hour when Jack and the twins burst through the door. "What happened to you guys?" asked Cam, when he noticed the look on their faces and how Ethan was favoring his hand. "Ethan got in a fight, some guy was hassling Aiden and Ethan whipped his ass," said Jack. "Oh my God, are you alright?" I asked, catching the tail end of Jack's comments as I walked into the room. Cam and I both went to Aiden and gently probed him for injuries; we wanted to make sure he hadn't been cut. "I'm fine," said Aiden. But we didn't' stop our examination. Like it or not, he's our fragile baby and we were concerned. "I said I'm fine damn it," said Aiden, before he stormed up the stairs. "What got into him?" asked Nicky. "I'll talk to him, I think I know," said Ethan. "Not so fast, let me see that hand," said Cam. He took Ethan's hand in his and moved it gently, checking for any fractures. Ethan hadn't damaged any of the delicate bones but his knuckles were bruised. He explained what had happened, why he had hit the other boy and frankly, we would have done the same thing. Cam got Ethan an ice pack for his hand and let him join Aiden upstairs, while we talked about what to do about the situation. When Ethan walked into his room, Aiden was laying on the bed with his face buried in his pillow. "Hey, what's the matter?" asked Ethan, gently, as he sat next to him. "I'm just mad is all," said Aiden, wiping his eyes. "Well yeah, that guy was a prick," said Ethan. "I'm not mad at him, I'm mad at you, all of you," said Aiden. "W-what?" stuttered Ethan, taken by surprise. "I'm not a baby, I can take care of myself, I didn't need you to rescue me and dad and daddy don't have to treat me like I'm going to break just because I'm sick," Aiden huffed. "Well that's a pretty chicken shit attitude to have," Ethan exclaimed. "I..." Aiden began. "No, you let me finish," said Ethan, "I came to help you because I love you and didn't want you to get hurt, and because I know how you'd feel if that piece of shit had hit you and got your blood on him. And as for our dad's, they love you too and they were just worried about you, so lighten up." The boys sat quietly for a moment. "You're right," Aiden sighed, "I just get so damn angry sometimes." "I know you do, and I understand why, but don't take it out on us, we're on your side," said Ethan. "Would you forgive me if I told you that you were pretty awesome, you know, beating up that idiot?" asked Aiden. "I'd forgive you anyway, but thanks," said Ethan. "Do you think you could maybe teach me a few things?" asked Aiden. "You want to learn to fight?" asked Ethan. "I've been a victim for so long Eth, I just want to feel like I have some control," said Aiden. "Lessons every afternoon after cross country, that work for you?" said Ethan. "Really, you mean it?" asked Aiden, excitedly. "Yeah, it wouldn't hurt you to learn a little self-defense and its good exercise," Ethan explained. "Awesome, you're the best," said Aiden, hugging Ethan tightly. "Come on, let's go down stairs and talk to the rents, they want to know what exactly happened and I think it would be nice if you said you were sorry," said Ethan. "Ok," Aiden agreed. "So, anyway, that's what he was mad about," said Aiden, after explaining his problem with the boy in town. "That's all, you were just drawing?" asked Cam. "Yeah, I don't even know what he was mad about, he called me a spoiled prep school boy, then just, I don't know, lost it," said Aiden. "Well, it doesn't sound like you did anything wrong, it sounds like that boy was looking for a fight," I stated, "Aiden, and this goes for all of you boys, you need to be careful when you're in town. A lot of the kids at our school come from very wealthy families and some of the kids in town resent that. It's unfortunate that this happened but at least now you're aware of it and when you're in town I expect you to stay together or with your friends." "But that's so stupid," said Ethan. "I know, but it goes both ways, some of the rich kids think they're better then the kids in town and look down on them," I stated. "I haven't seen anyone act like that," Jack interjected. "Well there are probably a few reasons for that," I explained, "One, you're their peers they wouldn't treat you like that, two, you haven't seen much interaction between our kids and the kids in town and three, you all have pretty good heads on your shoulders, I wouldn't expect you to be friends with asshole's." "Daddy, language," Nicky smirked. "Sorry kiddo," I winked. I hated explaining this to my sons, they hadn't done anything wrong, and they weren't spoiled brats. They are, in my opinion, perfectly nice boys and none of them would ever pick a fight or say an unkind word. That being said, it's the world we live in and I'd be a pretty crappy parent if I didn't let my boys know that adults aren't the only source of evil in the world. "Yeah, we'll be careful from now on Uncle Brenden," said Jack, speaking for the group. "I wanted to say I'm sorry for snapping at you too," added Aiden, "I, I was just upset." Cam and I hugged him and told him it was ok, we weren't mad, we understood his feelings. Ethan kept his word and started teaching Aiden Karate, in fact, considering that he walks home through town, I thought it would be a good idea for Nicky to learn a few things and Ethan agreed to teach him to. "Ok guys, I'm going to start by teaching you some forms for beginners," Ethan explained. With that, Ethan began what looked like some kind of elaborate dance, which brought about a round of hearty laughter from Aiden and Nicky. "What the hell is so funny?" Ethan exclaimed, drawing more laughter from his brothers. "We thought you were going to teach us Karate," said Aiden. "Yeah, not ballet," laughed Nicky. "Do you want to be smart asses or do you want to learn something?" Ethan huffed. "Ok, ok, we're sorry, right Nicky?" asked Aiden. "Totally, I won't even make the jazz hands joke I was thinking of," said Nicky. Ethan gave him a dirty look but then continued his lesson. "For starters that wasn't a dance, forms are a way of practicing without a sparring partner," Ethan explained. "I still don't quite get it," said Aiden. "Ok, you know how I play scales on my cello? The reason is you learn to build up rhythms, coordination and the ability to play and improvise music. You get so used to the notes A-B-C-D-E-F-G that you can change them up and arrange them however you want, that's basically how you play songs. With me so far?" asked Ethan. "Sure, that makes sense, but how..." Aiden began. "How does it relate to Karate?" said Ethan, "it's simple, forms are like scales. Kicks, punches, grabs and locks are your notes. Practicing them in combinations teaches you flow, you learn how to improvise the combination so that you can react to an attack without thinking about it." "Oh, I understand that's, cool," said Nicky. "Yeah, I get it now, can you show us that again?" asked Aiden. Ethan went through the forms again and had the boys repeat them, then he taught them some basic kicks and punches. Once he felt they were competent with those simple moves, he passed out sparring gloves and had them practice on each other. Aiden and Nicky were both beginners but his reach gave the older boy a slight advantage and though he didn't know it, he exercised it against Nicky. "Ha, I am so awesome, I am the Karate master," Aiden gloated, as he helped Nicky to his feet for the 10th time. "Not bad," said Ethan, "but do you think you're ready to try that on me?" "You're on," Aiden smiled. Ethan winked at Nicky, then took his stance. "Whenever you're ready Aide," said Ethan. Aiden studied Ethan for a moment and then made his move, a side kick to Ethan's hip. Aiden was on the ground before he even knew what had hit him. Ethan had grabbed his leg with one hand, grabbed the collar of his t-shirt with the other and dropped him to the ground, pinning him with his knee. His fist stopped a mere inch from Aiden's nose. "What the hell was that!" Aiden explained. "A lesson, Grasshopper," Ethan grinned, "Don't get cocky, you never know when someone better is going to come along, don't let your mouth get you in trouble." "Damn, lesson learned," said Aiden. "Good boy," Ethan smirked, helping Aiden to his feet. "How did you get so fast?" Aiden asked. "Psh, that was nothing," said Ethan, "Wait until you get a little more experienced, then I'll really wail on you." "Ugh, I can't wait," Aiden and Nicky, groaned together. Ethan just smiled to himself, he was pretty proud of his students; they hadn't done bad at all. The weeks passed by quickly and before we knew it, we were getting ready for Thanksgiving. Our football team tried hard and Jack did great as wide receiver, but they were having a bad season. The bright spot, on the athletic front, turned out to be Aiden. That boy could run like the wind, he won the gold medal for the 5 mile race, at a meet the other day, and as it's a small town; that was news. A reporter from the local paper did a story on the accomplishment and even included a picture; little did we know that this story would cause so much grief down the road.
