I got home about six and I was just in time for supper. Danny had on a new ball cap which he had bought at the mall and he was wearing it at the table and showing it off. Mom waited till we got ready to say grace then made him take it off....lol.

I said the blessing being sure to thank God for my family and my friends, (Bastion especially) and then it was time to eat. Since mom was short on time after going to the mall, she had made a taco casserole and served it with a big salad. It was yummy and there wasn't anything but crumbs left at the end of the meal.

We talked about our day and Dad told us a story about how he had taken his up (that's car talk for his turn to help a customer) and thought he had drawn a looser, but the guy turned out to a big rancher and bought a car and a truck and dad made a good commission off them.

Mom and Danny went on and on about the mall and when it was my turn I gave them the PG version of my day, starting with the swimming and ending with playing hoops at the park, but with all the sex parts cut out it wasn't very interesting.

I texted Bastion while I waited and we had a few laughs.

It was a most amazing day Cody. I really had a good time.

"First we put a latch on your door like the one I have on mine. If mom or dad says anything, just tell them what I did, that you're old enough to want privacy and for others to respect it by knocking first."

He nodded, "What else?"

"Take a shower after you do that stuff, you can't smell it cause you're so into it, but others can...trust me, I know."

"What else?"

"Well, there is one other thing and I been thinking about this since you caught me with Bastion, together we can hep cover for each other. I mean like if Bastion is over, you can help me...if Tommy or whoever is over, I can help cover you."

"With mom and dad you mean?"

"You goin to sleep now?"

"You boys want to eat breakfast with me and Dad or sleep in?"

Danny was awake now and looking baffled, "How did I get here? Oh...yeah, I remember," he said yawning, "We were soooo tired."

Mom laughed, "I guess so. Well, if you want breakfast come on. If not I'll save it for you."

"I'm ready to eat," I said jumping up, "I can sleep later," I added grinning.

Mom went back to the kitchen while we went to pee and wash up. We stood at the toilet side by side crossing our piss streams and I was glad to see that there was no sexual tension between us today. He smiled, "Well, maybe...if her folks will let her."

We stayed a little while longer then rode home in silence. We had had a good day and the weekend was almost over. I would see Bastion at school tomorrow and Danny would see Amanda. "I might, we'll see how it goes."

        Bastion nodded and took a bite of his coleslaw, or 'grass with mayo' as we call it, and nodded. For once he seemed at a loss for words.

"Well, I'm sure there are other kids here who would like to be your friend if they took the time to get to know you."

Luke laughed nervously, "Only thing kids here wanna do is torture me."

I looked down at my plate and tried to think of something helpful and soothing to say, but I couldn't think of a thing.

"We'll be your friends," Bastion said speaking for us both, "we're not like the others."

"Really? Cool, and when they see me with you guys they'll think I'm cool too."

I laughed, "I don't know if we have that much influence, but who cares. Screw the haters. I do have some good friends here...from my old school and I'll introduce you to them."

"Well, at least we didn't feed him," I joked when he was out of earshot.

Bastion laughed, "It's not that bad. He has his friends and I'm sure he won't be hanging around all that much."

"We'll see," I sighed, "We'll see."

As soon as I got home I went looking for Danny but I didn't find him at first. I went to his room and his door was closed and I didn't know whether to knock or not. I mean we had sort of worked it out that if our door was closed we were busy. I only know one thing that he could be doing that he wouldn't want anyone to see, and that sort of excited me. I stood there for like five minutes with my hand raised and ready to knock, but I finally went to the kitchen and dug out some chips and poured myself a glass of SunnyD and sat down at the table.

I must've been sitting there a long time because when Danny finally came out and sat beside me it was starting to get dark.

"You okay?" he said gently.

"Yeah, just thinking."

"Supper is almost ready, mom says to come in and wash up."

I nodded, and for the first time realized I'd been crying. I wiped at my eyes with my fists and sniffed, "I'll be right there, you go on."

Danny got up and just stood there for a minute then he leaned down and kissed the top of my head like I had done to him many times. I smiled up at him and then he smiled back and went inside. I took a deep breath and stood up and started toward the house, then turning to look back at the yard I sighed, I was no longer the boy who had played out there, whose biggest worry was what I'd get for Christmas. No, I was someone else, but I was stronger and better than I'd ever been and I was sure I could take on anything that came my way. Smiling I walked to the house and to my new life.
