Chapter 18 Pt. 4

Nika: “You leave Cody to me, that's not your concern. Besides, it's covered.”

Tanner: “It's not that easy. If something happened to you two Nika, and you broke up, then I'd feel partly responsible no matter what you say. And I knew you two are in love and boyfriends before I did what I did anyway!”

Nika: “Listen Barbie,” as I pulled his head so as my mouth was at his ear, “Cody already knows Tanner.”

Tanner: “What, how? We just did it?”

Nika: “Because, he and I have talked about it already. More than once. He knew the possibility that this situation may eventually come up. And if it did, we both had the green light.....just like last time Tanner.”

Tanner: Then it doesn't bother him? Or you?”

I replied frankly, "We both love you Tanner, and we both made a decision in regards to your situation and preference. And we both agreed on that decision and what all is involved."

Tanner, with a confused but inquisitive look on his face, "And what all does that mean?"

Nika: “I don't know if this will make sense to you, but I'm gonna try.”

Tanner: “Ok, please.”

Nika: “You've chosen me for some reason as not only your friend, but you also saw something in me that told you that you could trust me, and bare your soul to me. And by doing so, you freed yourself of years of torment and torture. It was a giant step for being as scarred and fragile as you were. And it was very courageous, cause if things didn't go just right, it would have set you back even further, and maybe even destroyed you.”

Tanner just looked down and nodded his head. So I continued, “And I'm very flattered and feel privileged that it was me that you invested your faith and hopes in Tanner. And I knew it was going to be difficult and there was going to be some tough times to get through. Hell, for that matter, there still will be. And the rest of us, the posse, your posse, decided to go along with me. But there were two individuals that have championed your cause well above the rest. Besides me of course.”

With that last comment, Tanners head snapped up to look at me, so I said, “Do you know who those two others are Tanner?”

Tanner shook his head no, so I told him, “They're my little brother, who considers you and Sequoia his best friends. But you maybe even more so in a peculiar way, because for some reason you two relate to one another on a more mischievous level. Whereas Sequoia is much older for his age in how he thinks and relates to others. That's why he hangs around me and my friends in addition to Sasha.”

Tanner: “So Sasha said I'm his best friend!”

Nika: “Yup, and he said it proudly, and he meant it too. He loves you Tanner.”

Tanner: “That's soo kool. And what about Cody?”

Cody: “Cody would walk through hell and back for you Tanner, and loves you maybe more than the rest of us.”

Tanner: “Why Nika? I mean why me?”

Nika: “I think maybe because he see's himself in you Tanner. And it concerns and frightens him.”

Tanner: “But how come, we're nothing alike at all. I mean I really like him a lot, but he's so chill, and easy going. He's like the polar opposite of me and my loud mouth.”

Nika: “Yah, true that Tanner, but your missing something very important.”

Tanner: “What, what am I missing Nika?”

Nika: “He's gay Tanner. He's in the same boat as you in that regards. And he see's you hurting, and it reminds him of how he felt. And the years of agony that he suffered before he came out to me and we became boyfriends, and not just friends anymore.”

Tanner: “So he pities me, or feels sorry for me then?”

Nika: “I wouldn't put it like that Tanner, nor would he.”

Tanner: “Then just how the hell would you put it Nika?”

Nika: “Don't do this to yourself Tanner! He relates to you is all, and there's a big difference between being able to relate to you, and feeling sorry for you. He knows first hand the pain, and the struggles that you've felt and experienced, and some of the one's that lay ahead for you as well. And he's the only one of us who can say that.”

Tanner: “What about you Nika?”

Nika: “I'm bi Tanner. And I don't think that is ever gonna change. I just prefer boys to girls is all. And I happened to fall in love with Cody. And I hope that never changes either. So Cody is the most qualified to relate to some of your wants and needs.”

Tanner: “Thanks Nika, I understand what you meant now.”
Nika: “Good, cause that brings us to our next subject. You know what I'm talking about?”

Tanner: “Yah, I think so. What to do about me?”

Nika: “Yup, what to do about you.”

Tanner: “Aaand?”

Nika: “Aaand, we agreed that by voting you into the posse, and taking you into our lives, that would alleviate a lot of your emotional turmoil, and give you a sense of belonging. So that you'd have a place to be, and a peer group that loves and accepts you. Something, sad to say, you've never had before.”

Tanner: “Yah, and I love you all for that.....thank you Nika.”

Nika: “No need for thanks Tanner. Just by accepting our invitation, and befriending us all, makes us better, and strengthens us more so than before.”

Tanner: “Why do I have a feeling there's more Nika?”

Nika: “Ok, here it is. We also understand, that besides being alone socially before you found us, that you were, or are, hurting and longing for physical attention as well. And again, Cody knows just how that feels more so than anyone.”

Tanner: “Ok, so what then?”

Nika: “So Cody and I decided that until you settle on someone, that is like we have with one another, and he gives you what you need physically Tanner, then we're both willing take take certain liberties to help you along.”

Tanner: “Haha, I think I know what you mean. And I could sure use it from time to time. I mean like what we just did. But are you sure?”

Nika: “Yah, were sure. It wasn't that much of a leap for either of us, and you being soo damn easy to look at made it all the easier.”

Tanner: “So how's this gonna work than Nika? I mean it sounds like it might just be a train-wreck waiting to happen?”

Nika: “Nah, it's just gonna be casual, and innocent, just like it was just now I guess. Besides, it's only temporary, you said you had a “crush” on someone. And if that doesn't work out, then you'll eventually find someone else. And Cody and I will keep our eye's and ear's on the look out for you too. By the way, are you comfortable enough yet to tell me who it is that Badnews covets?”

Tanner: “Hahaha, not quite yet Nika.”

Nika: “Common Tanner, can you at least give me a hint?”

Tanner: “Let's just say he's relatively close to you.”

I told Tanner, “I'll figure it out sooner or later Badnews,” but all the while knowing already who it was. Even though I had also hoped all along I was wrong. Because I realized it would only prolong his search, because if I'm correct, then he didn't stand a chance. And it would only end in heartbreak for him. Perhaps that's one of the reason I felt it necessary, as did Cody, to allow Tanner a certain “friends with benefits” stature.

I did take the opportunity though to ask him, “So what doe's your family call you Tanner? I mean is it Badnews, Barbie, or do they even have a nickname for you?”

Tanner: “Yah, but I ain't tellin.”

Nika: “Common, you owe me at least that much.”

Tanner: “No way, I already have too many nicknames as it is.”

Nika: “How bout a hint?”

Tanner: “No. But is has to do with my whole name.”

Nika: “I'll bet Tasha and Dakota know what it is. I'll just ask one of them.”

Tanner: “Hey, that's not fair Nika!”

Nika: “Hahaha!”

Tanner: “Whatever! I just hope you and Cody are really sure about what we just talked about, and it's really ok?”

Nika: “I'm never gonna just sleep around on Cody, nor will he. But your different Tanner, your like our family. To the whole Posse, but you're like me and Cody's family in a special way too. You're one of us, and what's more, like I said, we had talked about it before hand. Someday Cody is gonna take me and make love to me. Real love, you know what I'm talking about?”
