His backyard was so spacious that two houses could probably fit here, which wasn't common in our little suburb. He always got anything he wanted, especially the most awesome toys and games, but also really nice clothes. Lucky him! At least it was getting warmer outside, and I got to come over for the weekends more often to enjoy his awesome stuff. It was why I carried my big backpack over my shoulders to stay the next two nights up there, sleeping bag included. Just because I was in middle school didn't mean I had to grow up soon. Grinning, I climbed up the long, wooden ladder that was tightly roped to the huge tree. The adrenaline rushed through my chest as soon as I was high. The wooden door was already open, so I crawled inside and waved at Stewart. "Hey!" I was super giddy now. "Hey, Lenny!" Stewart wore a light green polo and beige khakis that probably cost more than the boy basics my parents always got me. He sat on the wooden floor with his legs crossed, building onto the Lego city he'd recently started. He focused on putting the pieces together, currently working on a gas station that fit the diesel trucks he'd already built. Gosh, just being up here was enough for me to feel excited. After all, it was our boy cave. Stewart was the superhero, and I was his sidekick. We'd been this way since kindergarten; he'd always been a natural leader. I glanced at a framed photo hanging on the wooden wall: a blue-eyed boy with blond hair and a hazel-eyed boy with brown hair, both pale and skinny. It was us, and my heart felt melty. "You put our pic up!" Stewart grinned. "Of course, sillyhead. You're my buddy. Who else would be included in our boy cave logo?" Logo. I blushed and looked away, feeling so special to be a major part of it. When I looked back at Stewart, our faces bumped into each other because he'd already moved so close to me. "Ow!" we said at the same time, giggling. He smiled like a cute goof, his cheeks turning red. Then, he gave me a little kiss on the lips. It was warm and soft like the last time. We never gave each other weird tongue swaps like in the boring romance movies Mom watched. Lately, I'd been discovering some confusing stuff about myself. I got a stiffy whenever I was around Stewart, and it was embarrassing for me to stand up each time. I didn't dare to tell anyone, especially not Stewart. What if he would think I was a super weirdo? Our kisses made me hard down there, too, but they also lifted my heart like never before. It had all started a while back with an "innocent" game of Truth or Dare, and once we'd kissed, giggling every time, we'd liked doing it because it was fun. Stewart looked at me with extra focus. "I've been reading a lot about social stuff lately." I gave him a nod, waiting for him to continue. "I learned that when people kiss, it means they like each other and have to be boyfriend and girlfriend." I blushed and looked away, my heart racing fast. Then, I turned back to Stewart's face and gave him a big smile. "But we're boys." "So? We'll be boyfriend and boyfriend, then." We giggled. "I mean, you're already my sidekick, Lenny. Why not be more?" Another blush, another head turn. My heart and stiffy sure knew how to act on their own, and even though I was confused and didn't know what it meant, I knew it felt good. "Okay. I'll be your boyfriend. But...doesn't that mean we can't kiss other people?" "Duh. That's cheating, sillyhead, and boyfriends aren't supposed to cheat on each other." Stewart made a bigger smile, always making my heart melty. So, I had a boyfriend now. How cool was that! He got back to his Legos and continued building, and I joined him in silence. This was going to be an awesome weekend, one I'd never forget. =====BB===== braddyboyce.wordpress.com nifty.org/nifty/authors.html#braddyboyce (c) 2021-2023, Braddy Boyce. All rights reserved.
