We all showed up to her house wearing the assigned matching costumes -- long-sleeved leotards and see-thru dark hose. She had matching black cat-ear headbands for us with over sized black kitten ears, and the big cat tails. Now, the only challenged was to attach them to the appropriate points on our lower backs. Emma had black thread and a needle, and had each of us turn our backs to her and she began stitching the cat tails onto our leotards as we stood still, praying she would not stitch thru to the skin underneath. We were all thinking it, I'm pretty sure. Finally, it was Brie who had to say it. "You know, if you just glue a butt plug to the ends of each of these... I'm so glad Emma didn't have a needle next to anyone's spine when she said that. We would have had an emergency room situation on our hands. True to her word, Randi showed up in a head-to-toe Puss-n-Boots costume straight out of the cartoon. I'm pretty sure she must have had that already, and was just waiting for a chance to wear it. She even had the black knee-high boots, the black hat, and the black cape. I thought (and maybe I wasn't the only one) that without the cat costume, that would have been a pretty good dominatrix outfit. After about a half hour, we managed to calm down Emma's panic and convinced her everything was gonna be OK. Mom hung around Emma-R's house and spent all the time in the kitchen having coffee (or I think it was coffee) with Emma's mom. Later, on the ride home, I asked Mom what they talked about. I wasn't trying to pry, just trying to make conversation. Mom said, "Emma's mother, Sarah, wanted to know more about you and your transition, so I told her." That fell like a turd. "What did she want to know?" "Sarah's a bright woman, and very sympathetic to what you're going thru, but she's never met a male-to-female trans, and so she wanted to know more." "What more?" "Christy, dear, your transition is a known fact. She just doesn't have any idea how it all works. I explained puberty blockers and therapy and estrogen and how your body is going thru changes." "MOM!" "Christy, these are things mothers of daughters talk about. If you want to be accepted by your friends mothers, they need to be able to peek behind the curtain and know what's going on. It humanizes you." "I AM human, Mom. I don't need to be humanized." "OK, maybe that wasn't the best way to phrase it. Mothers of `cis-girls' understand what to expect as our daughters grow up. We went thru those changes ourselves. We compare notes about our daughters, in case one of us runs into something we don't understand and some other mother might be able to help. Your situation is special, and new, and she's curious. She is certainly accepting of you, and glad you and Emma are friends, but letting her in on the secret sauce helps make her even more supportive." "Huh... gotcha. But, please understand, it makes me feel more and more like the little lab experiment that everyone gets to poke and probe." Mom just sighed. "Yes. I know. I understand." I wanted to yell at her and tell her, `no, you don't understand', but I kept my mouth shut. I knew she meant well, and that was all I could ask for. Mom and I watched `Silence of the Lambs'. Yeah, not `zactly the thing to watch before bedtime, but I'd always wanted to see it. I know it's like almost 30 years old, but damn, the way Jodie Foster rocks that look. Her hair and outfit are totally dated, but I really could see myself looking like her. My hair is a lot lighter than hers, but there are chemicals for that. Man, her hair had perfect body, too. Mine is way too stringy and thin. I`ll bet Jodie has people for that... Sigh... what's next? Oh yeah, tomorrow. Dr. Strange.
