O ur time together had been wonderful, and as often happens, time went by much faster than expected. I had only a week left before I had to return home and we hadn't been able to get Anna's gender legally changed. We did discover how it could be done, but timing was a problem. It wasn't exactly "perfectly legal", but with a few well-placed bribes a corrected birth certificate could be obtained.

But timing was the problem – in order to get to the right people, it would take months, and I was expected back in New York in a little over a week. I got to the office with a lot on my mind. Jai, my administrative assistant told me that I had a call scheduled at 9am with Mr. Carlton, my company CEO. With the time difference, I knew it was late at night in New York, so it must be really important. I hoped there wasn't a problem.

I took the call with much apprehension and learned that the current VP of Asia/Pacific was being let go, and he wanted me to assume that role for six months, and if it worked out I would be the new VP. He was very apologetic, saying that he knew it would be disruptive and I would have to remain in Maylaysia, but he would have people help me take care of my affairs back in New York. It was difficult to contain my excitement, but I did my very best to pretend that it would be difficult for me, but I'd do it if that was what the company needed. He thanked me and said the official announcement would happen tomorrow at 8am, New York time.

I asked Jai to find someone who could help me find a place to stay for a longer time, and hoped to move to a nice apartment with Anna. She arranged for one of our company relocation managers to have lunch with me. Everything moved so quickly it just seemed like a blur. Within a week I was moved out of the hotel into an apartment. I was now in a penthouse office and brought Jai with me as my assistant.

Anna was thrilled and gave up her apartment to come live full-time with me. She was growing in confidence as a woman, even to the point of being able to go out on her own when I was at work. I continued to pursue her legal gender change, and at the same time a name change from her male name (which I couldn't even pronounce) to Annabelle.

After a few months her name and gender change were complete. While this was happening, we made wedding plans, so a month after her legal change we got married. We couldn't have been happier.

Two years later I was promoted to Executive VP for International Operations, which took me back to New York. Anna immigrated without any difficulty or questions and began looking into U.S. citizenship. She was a perfect lady, at my side in numerous public company functions, and amazing as ever in private.

Now, as I approach retirement, my lovely Anna is a U.S. citizen, and we are planning some international travel to see much of Europe. In my work we traveled all over Asia, but now we wanted to see something different, and doing so with Anna, I would have the time of my life!
