When she gets engaged, she faces the challenge of how to tell her fiancι! I hope you enjoy this work of fiction. –––––––––––––––––––– Becky and Bill enjoyed each other's company throughout the night, as did Bob and Joanne. Morning came early on the farm and soon the alarms were going off at 5am, alerting the men that the cows were awaiting their attention. Joanne and Becky passed each other on the way back to their respective rooms, each giving the other a knowing smile. Soon Bill and Bob were out milking the cows with Jim while the girls could sleep in an hour before getting up to help Mary with breakfast. At 7:15 breakfast was ready and Becky rang the bell on the porch to call the men in. By then the men had all worked up a serious appetite and were ready for the hearty breakfast awaiting them. During breakfast they began to discuss the final plans for Bill and Becky's wedding. The dresses had been purchased and the tuxedo rentals were arranged. The wedding was just three weeks away, with the rehearsal dinner set for the Friday before. Bill had rented a condominium on a beach in Puerto Rico for their honeymoon. After reviewing all of the arrangements, they all agreed that everything had been arranged, and there was nothing more to do but wait for the blessed day. With Bill and Becky's wedding plans now completed, conversation turned to Bob and Joanne. Since Bob had intended to take over the farm from Jim, Joanne would be moving to Mt. Vernon. "What are you going to do about your practice?" Becky asked of Joanne. "I've been in contact with several clinics in Cedar Rapids, and hope to join one of them," Joanne explained. "That would be convenient," responded Becky, "Cedar Rapids is big enough to support a lot of your work, and it's only about twenty minutes from here." Jim began, "We should talk about living arrangements, since you two will want to have a little privacy." Mary added, "So Joanne won't have to sneak off to Bob's room every night." Everyone had a good laugh over the way the girls pretended to sleep separately from their men just so Mary would think everything was proper. Jim continued, "As you know, we've kept the small house where my parents lived until they passed. We thought that Bob and Joanne would like to live there for now. When they have a family Mary and I can move there and Bob and Joanne can have this larger house." That seemed simple enough, so now the main concerns surrounded the wedding plans. They would need to choose a church and a date, and go from there. Becky promised to help Joanne plan the wedding as soon as they got back from their honeymoon in Puerto Rico. After breakfast Bob approached Becky and said, "Could I talk somewhere privately with you?" "Sure, what's up?" responded Becky, as she led Bob out to the porch where they sat away from the hearing of others. "I wanted to tell you something very private," said Bob, "I know I've been really mean to you while we were growing up." "That's an understatement!" said Becky, "You were an absolute bastard!" "Okay, I was," agreed Bob, "but I wanted to tell you what was behind it." "I just thought you were a homophobe," said Becky, "and just thought I was gay." "No, on both counts," explained Bob, "I have some friends who are gay and that doesn't bother me at all. The truth is that I was very attracted to you!" Becky was speechless, waiting for Bob to continue. "I was overcome with guilt," continued Bob, "being attracted to my own sister was bad enough, but it made me doubt my own sexuality." "I had no idea," said Becky, "I wish we could have just talked about it." "I couldn't do that," said Bob, "I was too ashamed so I just ended up acting like a jerk and taking out my frustrations on you, and I'm terribly sorry." "I've already forgiven you, Bob," Becky acknowledged, "but now I understand a lot better. Have you come to terms with your sexuality?" "Oh yes," Bob affirmed, "With Joanne in my life I had to completely re-think everything, but I realize that we are both completely straight – just in a non-traditional situation. At least I don't have the guilt of having the hots for my own sister!" They both had a good laugh about that, and hugged. "I love you Bob," said Becky, "but there sure were plenty of times that I didn't LIKE you!" "I love you too, Becky," responded Bob, "And I hope things will be different for us from now on." "They will," assured Becky. Bob went back to his farm work and Becky went to help inside. A little later Bill and Becky left to make final checks regarding the church and the caterer. They had decided to have the reception at the church, which simplified things. The caterer was familiar with that church and had catered a number of weddings there. They stopped at the restaurant where they planned to have the rehearsal dinner and talked to the manager. He showed them a private room that would seat their party comfortably, and they made meal arrangements. Becky told Bill of her conversation with Bob. "I would never have guessed," said Bill, "but it makes sense – I'm not sure how I would have reacted in that situation – having a beautiful and seductive sister like you!" "He's come a long way," Becky acknowledged, "now it makes perfect sense that he would be with Joanne – they seem really happy together!" They made one more stop at the florist, to confirm their plans for flowers for the rehearsal dinner and the wedding. With all the plans made and double checked, Bill and Becky drove back to the farm, where they had dinner and returned home. –––––––––––––––––––– To be continued ...
