 The Dirty Bookstore

Chapter Two

By: Kewl Dad

Andy

Joel hoped he had waited long enough to leave the bookstore that he wouldn't bump into Rick on his way out, but fortunately he was nowhere in sight. However, his bike was still there, right next to Joel's car, and his heart sank a little when he realized Rick was still inside, having fun, probably fucking some hot guy right now, and would probably be giving up his ass as well.

He piled into his car and started the engine, but he just sat there for a few minutes trying to clear his head. Guys came and went, most of them giving Joel a good looking over, some even nodding and smiling as if to say, 'come inside for some fun', but Joel ignored all of them.

Eventually he drove away, heading down 11th Street toward downtown, but with no real destination in mind. His house was in the opposite direction, but at the moment, he had no desire to go home, despite his earlier thoughts.

As he approached the college, which bordered this street, he saw a number of young guys and guys walking up and down the street, perhaps getting a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants lining the street, or just out enjoying a walk in the fresh air.

Further along, miles from the college, he came upon a guy who looked to be closer to his own age, and he slowed down to get a good look at him. He wore cutoffs, a red tank top, and a ball cap pulled down low over shaggy brown hair.

As soon as he saw Joel checking him out, a light seemed to go on in his head, and he immediately stuck out his thumb, the universal sign of the hitchhiker.

Joel usually didn't stop for hitchhikers, but this one looked harmless enough, and he decided he could use a little company. He stopped as quickly as possible, but the boy still had to run a short distance to reach Joe's car, and when he did he opened the door and got in, skipping the usual ceremony of asking, 'how far you going? etc.'

Once seated, Joel could see the boy was much younger than him, perhaps only 13 or 14, and much cuter than he'd first thought.

"I'm Andy," the boy said offering a small soft  hand for Joel to shake.

"Joel. Where you headed?"

"River Parks, you going that far?"

"Yeah, no problem," Joel said with a smile, "kinda late to be out alone."

"Yeah, yeah, I know," the boy chuckled, "someone might pick me up and molest me. You're not gonna molest me are you?" he added as if daring Joel to do so.

"Nah, I've never had to molest anyone, they're usually quite willing," Joel joked, enjoying this banter with the cute teenage boy.

"I bet," Andy snickered, "so in case you're wondering, I'm 15. I know, I look 12, but I'm just a midget," he joked, "I get hell for it all the time, but I'm a tough sonabitch and don't take no shit offn' no one."

"I'll remember that," Joel laughed, "I wouldn't want you to go off on me."

"I wouldn't. I'm peaceful, except when people piss me off."

"Are you hungry, Andy?" Joel said, wondering where that came from.

"Huh, are you kidding? Always," the  boy laughed

"I haven't eaten yet, if you can stand my company a bit longer I'll treat you to a burger and fries."

"Cool, hell yeah! You can even molest me if I get dinner out of the deal,"  he joked.

"Well, we'll see about that," Joel chuckled, already liking this feisty little teen boy.

It was Andy who suggested they get their food to go and eat it in the park, and Joel was glad to oblige. Perched on a picnic table just a few feet from the river and the parking lot, they dined on greasy burgers and salty golden fries, washing them down with tall cups of Coke.

"This is good," Andy said, but Joel thought he meant more than the food. Maybe Andy was hungry for companionship as well as food.

"Best cheeseburgers in town," Joel proclaimed.

"I meant, having dinner by the river...and talking to you, and all," the boy said, looking away as if embarrassed by his sentimentality.

"I know what you mean, I was feeling kinda lonely when I came across you."

"You were?" Andy said with big brown eyes, then he smiled, "looking for a victim, huh?"

"Yeah, something like that," Joel said grinning back.

"You gotta girlfriend?" Andy asked then, his big brown eyes locked onto Joel's green ones.

"Nah, you?"

"A couple," Andy said, then chuckling he added, "they're girls and they're friends, but not really 'girlfriends'."

"Do they at least put out?" Joel teased.

"Of course," Andy said wiggling an eyebrow, "I ain't a virgin, no more."

"Lucky you," Joel said, but he didn't sound very sincere.

"What's wrong?" Andy said, picking up on Joel's mood right away.

"Nothing, I'm happy for you."

Andy snatched a fry from Joe's container and popped it into his mouth before Joel could react.

"Hey!"

"Eat one of mine, then, why dontcha?" Andy offered.

What sort of game was this? Joel wondered, playing it off to just being the sort of thing kids that age did. He was willing to play along, but instead of one fry, he snatched two and ate them in one bite.

"Hey!" Andy giggled, and the war of the fries began.

Next, it was the war of the Cokes as Andy snatched up Joel's drink and took a big slurp.

"I spit in it at the end," Andy giggled.

"You better not have," Joel warned, but he too was laughing as he grabbed up Andy's drink and pretended to hock up a loogie to add to it.

"Stop, stop, I give," Andy said settling into his seat once again, "I'll be good."

"I didn't say you were bad," Joel said grinning, "In fact, I'd say you were very good. I haven't had this much fun in a while."

"Boy, your life must be really boring," Andy chuckled, "if I'm the most fun you've had."

"Why do you say that? I think you're pretty cool," Joel said sincerely.

"That's just cause you wanna get in my shorts, isn't it?" Andy laughed.

"Nope, if that was all I wanted, I'd just ask. And you'd either say yes or no, and that would be that, right?"

Andy looked stunned, pausing to sip his Coke for a moment, then locking eyes with Joel again he said calmly, "I'd probably say yes."

"I thought so," Joel said looking smug, "now, if you're done with your dinner, why don't we take a walk along the river? I could use some exercise."

The moon was nearly full, the sky filled with a thousand twinkling lights, but beneath the canopy of the trees that lined the trail, it was only the soft glow of the street lights along the boulevard that lit their way.

They talked about their lives as they walked along, each sharing more and more as they became more comfortable with one another. Andy was from a single parent family, an older sister in high school and a mom who worked two jobs to support them. They lived in a low income apartment where there were lots of other kids, the aforementioned 'girl friends' among them. He seemed relatively happy despite his lot in life, and Joel could already tell that he was the sort of kid who made friend easily and got along with people well.

"So, you work at that burger place?" Andy laughed, "no wonder you said they have the best burgers. I bet you even got a discount, didn't ya?"

"So? You still got a free dinner," Joel laughed, "shut up or I'll make you cough it up."

Andy pretended to do just that, pausing after a few attempts to say, it's not working, wait, wait,"  then letting loose a loud odoriferous fart, he giggled, "I think it's coming out the other end."

"Eww, thank God we're outside, if we'd been in my car I'd have wrecked us for sure," Joel laughed. Joel was 18, but he could still appreciate a good fart joke.

Fanning the seat of his shorts as if to disperse any lingering odor, Andy double stepped to catch up with Joel.

"It's all gone now," Andy assured him.

"Yeah, well, warn me next time," Joel grumbled.

"Where are we going?" Andy asked after they'd gone a bit further.

"I dunno, want to turn back?"

"Nah, not unless you do. I got nowhere to be."

"But you were headed here when I picked you up, what were you going to do here?"

"Nuttin'," Andy said, but for the first time that night, Joel suspected he was hiding something, "I just...I live not too far from here, that's all."

"Ah, okay, well, when you're ready to go home, I'll give you a lift if you want."

"Cool," Andy said growing quiet then.

"How old is your brother?" Joel asked, just to make conversation.

"17, he's a junior this year, but he's a jerk," Andy said definitively."

"Really, or are you just jealous of him?" Joel teased.

"No way, Jose," Andy said in horror, "he's crazy and so is his girlfriend. I think they're on drugs most of the time, that's what I think."

"Sorry to hear that. I try not to be a jerk to my little brother, Sam, and we get along pretty good, most times. But there's such a big age difference that it's hard to relate to him sometimes."

"Do you feel that way about me, am I too young? Do you, umm, relate to me?" he said looking eager as a pup.

"We're not that far apart in age, so, yeah...I relate just fine. I hate to admit it, but I sorta like you, stinky butt and all," Joel teased.

"Really, I mean, not the stinky butt part, but you really like me?"

"Well, sure, why not? You're smart and funny, and that thing with our dinner was hilarious."

"Aww, you're just saying that," Andy said, obviously hungry for acceptance and praise.

"Can I be honest?"

"Well, sure," the boy said looking as if expecting the worst.

"Tonight, something happened, something that kinda upset me, and I was just going to go home and take a shower and crash, and just, you know? try to forget it. Then I saw you, and even though I usually don't pick up hitchhikers, I saw your face and I thought, he looks nice, and maybe we can be friends, even if only for as long as the ride lasts, and well...I know this sounds crazy, but if you wanted...." Joel said feeling very vulnerable and a bit silly, "maybe we could be friends for real."

"Really? You mean that?" Andy said practically jumping for joy, "I mean, sure...why not?" he added, trying to hide some of his excitement and not appear so lame.

"Good, that's good, really good. I know our lives are a lot different and we don't live close to each other, but I have a car and I can come see you, or we can go places, or even meet here, at least this summer. In the fall I'll be heading to college, but I'll be back for holidays and stuff."

"Cool, very cool," Andy said grinning, "I've never had a cool friend like you before, with a car and stuff."

"Okay, then, I guess that's settled. Hey, I hope you don't think I'm being weird by asking you to be friends and all. I swear it's not cause I want in your shorts," Joel laughed.

"Even if you did, it would be worth it," Andy laughed, "cause you're not old and ugly or anything. You're kinda cute," he added, then blushed, "I mean, as far as guys go."

Joel chuckled, "So are you. I bet the girls are crazy for a little fox like you."

"Aww, well...maybe some of them," Andy said grinning, "that's why I ain't a virgin no more."

"I mean it, good for you. That's one thing you got on me."

"Aww, that's okay, I know most guys don't get laid till they're older, you'll find a girl that will put out...someday."

"Yeah, I'm sure," Joel said, not wanting to go into the real reason he was still a virgin, that he liked boys and not girls, "we should head back. I need to get home, I have to be at work at 10 a.m. tomorrow."

"Aww, okay, but you don't gotta take me all the way home, can you drop me off at 41st by the bathrooms?"

Joel wondered why there. He'd heard that guys occasionally cruised there and that recently there'd been an undercover sting operation and several guys had been busted. But surely, Andy must have other reasons, maybe his apartment was near there and he just wanted to hang out a bit before heading home.

The walk back to the car was a pleasant one, even though they didn't talk as much as they had on the first leg of their walk. There was a companionable silence between them, the kind that very close family or friends shared, and words weren't needed.

In the car, Andy turned to Joel and gave him a big smile, "Thanks, for tonight, I mean, and for dinner, and all."

"You're welcome. I hope we can do it again, real soon."

"Yeah, me too. Hey, I changed my mind, if you don't mind can you take me on home?"

"Well, sure, which way?"

"Straight up Riverside, to 61st."

Well, that answered the question of where Andy lived, and it was at least two miles from the bathrooms at 41st Street. But as telling as that might have been, Joel refused to believe that Andy might be hanging out there, and perhaps tricking for cash.

At 61st Street, Andy directed Joel to turn left, then onto a road that ran by a little park. There were several houses fronting the park, but the road then turned sharply to the right, and on either side of it were apartment buildings. For low-income apartments, they were in surprisingly good condition, but then Joel didn't think they were very old.

Andy's building was on the right, facing the street, and since all the parking spaces in front of it were full, he idled in the drive and threw the car into park.

"Well, goodnight," Joel said, "You wanna call me, or should I call you?"

They'd exchanged phone numbers back at the park and Andy was clutching the small slip of paper with Joe's number written on it as if it were something precious, which to him it was.

"I'll call you, okay? I never know when I'll be home. I run around a lot."

"Cool, if I'm at work or out, someone will take a message and I can call you back," Joel agreed.

"Good, okay...well, see ya," Andy said, finally unbuckling and opening the door.

In the soft light of the dome light, Andy looked almost ethereal, his fine features taking on an angelic look.

"And just so you know, I meant it when I said I'd say yes." then he was gone. The door closed with a soft swishing sound, then with a bang that brought Joel up out of his stupor.

His meaning had been obvious, but far from being encouraging, the boy's statement only brought about confusion and sadness. Did everything have to be about sex? He had no doubt a boy like Andy could be lured into sex. He was young and horny and vulnerable and if he was being truthful about not being a virgin, he no doubt was curious about any type of sex.

Joel thought back to when he was 15. It was easy, it seemed like only yesterday. He'd been horny all the time, hard more than soft, and eager to explore his young body and anyone else's who'd allow. He was lucky, he'd had friends who were curious too, some younger, some older, and he'd never lacked a willing partner, that was: until most of them discovered they liked girls better and moved on.

He knew that the very act of making friends with Andy would be suspect in some people's minds, but he was sure he hadn't had any ulterior motives at the time. He'd liked Andy from the start, really liked him, and not in a sexual way. Sure, they'd joked about Joel only picking Andy up to molest him, and maybe he shouldn't have gone along with that kind of talk, but he'd only meant it in a joking way, and had thought Andy did too. Desperate to please Joel, however, maybe Andy was offering more than just friendship. It might be partly from curiosity, or even need, but Joel wasn't about to use that as leverage in their friendship. If anything happened, which he doubted, it would be by mutual consent, and Andy would be in charge. Nuff said, end of story.

With that decision made, Joel drove home. His parents were already in bed, but a quick check on Sam, found him awake in his bed, reading a book. Whether he'd waited up for Joel or not, Joel wasn't sure, but he was glad to see his happy smiling face.

"Hey, Tiger, still up?"

"Yeah, I wasn't sleepy," the boy said grinning, "and I kinda wanted to say goodnight."

Joel came in and sat on the edge of Sam's bed. The room was done in a baseball theme, baseballs and bats adorning the bedspread and curtains and a lamp shaped like a baseball bat and ball by his bedside.

"You smell funny," Sam said wrinkling his cute nose.

Only then did Joel realize he'd packed home the smell of his, and Rick's cum. He usually went straight to the bathroom and showered first, but tonight he'd wanted to check on Sam before doing so.

"Sorry, I went for a walk and I guess I got kind of sweaty."

"So, where did you go?"

"The river, Mr. Nosy," Joel said tickling his younger brother and making him giggle like and 11-year-old oft does.

"Stop it or I'll pee on ya," Sam warned.

"Well, I couldn't smell much worse if you did," Joel joked, but he did stop tickling and instead he just held Sam by the waist, smiling down at him and sharing a moment.

Sam, never one to pass up a chance to hug his big brother, reached his slender arms up and placed them around Joel's neck and attempted to pull him down. However, Joel was stronger and held his position, forcing Sam to rise instead.

The boy giggled again as he finally reached his big brother, then quickly planted a kiss on his cheek before letting himself back down again.

"What was that for?" Joel chuckled.

"Because," Sam said grinning.

"Because why?"

"Because I love you," Sam said, and Joel's heart melted.

With a smile and a few tears in his eyes, Joel leaned down and kissed his little brother on the forehead and gave him one final hug, "Goodnight slugger, I love you too. See ya in the morning."

"Night," Sam said, reluctantly letting go of Joel's hand as he stood and pulled away, then heading to the door. When Joel was gone, the door closed behind him, Sam placed his book on the bedside table, turned off his lamp and lay back on his pillow.  Satisfied now that his hero was safely home, the little boy fell into slumber at last.
